I actually do enjoy bad endings, as other's said, if they add anything to the understanding of the character's or the plot. Fate/Stay Night has really good bad endings. For example the "Mind of Steel" bad ending really brought up the contrast of Shiro's ideals to that of what he personally wants. Also Grisisia no Kajitsu, added a really great plot point in Amane's bad end. I also enjoyed one of the bad endings in Sharin no Kuni because it added a interesting "what if " scenario. I

Technically no. They are both set in the same universe, and there common elements that connect them. That being said, their atomospheres are completely different (choas;head is certainly on the darker side). That being said, I'd say play both when you have the chance.

I am planning to play 999 and virtue's last reward when I get a chance. I heard good things about Yu-NO and Platarian.

Allright I finished Swan Song. I got to say, it was a pretty good read and I really liked the 6 protoganist thing. It was especially interesting to see what went inside Takuma and Yuka's heads. That being said,I think the ending ....was just there, you know? I did like both endings, and the normal ending was just plain nice. Of course it was dark, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I am prolly gonna try little busters next .

Umineko's ending is more ambigious than mind blowing, but its an amazing vn nonetheless. Rewrite is great, but it does have a "common route" which is heavy on the slice of life. The actual story is mindblowing once you get to the true routes. There's also true remembrance, a short vn with a sorts twisty ending. Cross Channel, while has slice of life portions at first, gets twisted near the end. Steins;Gate and Choas;Head too. As other's said, MUVLUV ALTERNATIVE IS AMAZING. But you do have to suffer through extra and unlimited, but its well worth it. Trust me.

I second this. There is a good reason why muvluv alternative is listed top rated on vndb. But you do have to get through muvluv and muvluv unlimited to understand the story better .

All I am saying is , there is a reason why Alternative is highly rated on vndb.

Two off the top of my head : Rewrite has something of a "alien" heroine. Saya no uta also has a alien heroine, but I will warn you. Saya no Uta is VERY ...AND I MEAN VEEEEEERY DARK. So its not for those who want a happy go lucky comedy or anything like that.

Man, most of the vns on my vndb are on the darker side and aren't purely romance (ie: action, supernatural, mystery , etc). Technically G Senjou No Maou has 4 good ends, 4 bad ends, and a true end..... Sharin no Kuni has no bad ends, and 5 good ends. Rewrite is a good one, it does have multiple bad ends, but they aren't "full endings" so to speak. They are very short. There are 5 heroines, and their endings range from good to bittersweet. There is also a true ending. STEINS;GATE, but its not soley focused on romance . It basically has an ending for each heroine, and the ending is generally good to bittersweet. There is also a true ending.

Okay I read the Oppai Ending. IT WAS AMAZING. Anyways, onto swan song or something.

Seeing as you have clannad on your list, I definitely think you ought to give Rewrite a chance. Steins;Gate, Fate/Stay Night, Tsukihime, and Dangan Ronpa are good stuff. I would reccomend muvluv/muvluv alternative, but to read it all will take you a very very very very long time. Muvluv consists of extra and unlimited. Unfortunately extra is on the boring side, but unlimited is good. However where everything shines is Muvluv Alternative. You have to play extra and unlimited to understand Alternative. There is a reason why Muvluv Alternative is top scored on vndb...

Moon/Terra from Rewrite.

So I finally finished Rewrite (although I haven't gotten the opai ending yet). I got to say overall, it was an amazing experience and I really enjoyed it. However, I am reluctant to read the rest of Key's visual novels, b/c I heard those are more on the "slice of life" side of things. I'll probably read Swan Song next, but first OPPAI ENDING!

Muvluv.... and Muvluv Alternative. That is all. I actually got a bigger void after finishing those lol .

Well you get to learn a bit later, and it becomes more apparent in the Heaven's Feel route that Shirou has a strange obsession for living for the sake of others. It comes to the point where people conclude that he is a "empty human being" .

The irony of this statement kinda hurts. For one thing Heaven's Feel is the closest in theme/style to Fate Zero. Secondly, while the Urobutcher did write Fate/Zero, Nasu was supervising the project and made recommendation and stuff. Seriously, try finishing Heaven's Feel, it gets immensely amazing in the latter half and you'll learn to appreciate Kotomine's character more.

My first visual novel was fate/stay night. Back then, I was looking for new anime to watch and I stumbled upon the studio Deen adaption of fate stay night through a top 10 list reccomendation. I decided to wiki fate stay night to see its synopsis and found out it was originally a visual novel. My first response was like "What the hell is a visual novel?" So I decided to play the f/sn visual novel, and here I am lol.

Muvluv is probably one of my favourite vns ever. You really really have to suffer through extra, I know it sucks, but you really do. Unlimited is actually pretty interesting. Alternative is just AOIDHISGFJAKCGDOCGDIAGCAG OMG I literally was melachonic and just plain star struck by how amazing it was. I think I couldn't play another vn for weeks because of it lol.
