Fuwonovel Destroying Visual Novels in the West
Okarin replied to Yuuko's topic in The Coliseum of Chatter
So, a facade of promoting VNs and it really destroys them...? What a turn of events! -
Let modders be. Most often, they do a great contribution to the community.

Hi, I'm learning Japanese slowly. To improve, I'd like to try a VN that: - Has to be short - Has to use simple language and kanji (furigana would be nice) - Isn't too trash, since I'd cringe while reading; probably excludes nukige but if you insist... Thanks!

In the end, it's just pornography. But surely, I don't think I'm the only one who thinks fapping to rape says something about you, and probably something wrong. It's not like violence in regular video games, because that's taken for granted and people aren't generally excited by the violence, but the thrill and the action. Think for just a moment, being aroused to things like rape is just... wrong.

Hoshimemo is not that bad as we're led to believe. In fact, it's quite good. A solid 7 out of 10.

How big a difference does it make for you to have voice acting in a VN?
Okarin replied to Thyndd's topic in Visual Novel Talk
VAs generally do a terrific job, especially Japanese ones (since they're well regarded, paid and trained, so they deliver a good job). But I can tolerate and enjoy a game that has no budget for them, such as Ebi-Hime ones (those are all about the writing, however). -
Huh... of course, if the fetish exists, there are people who'd love to put that into practise. There are coprophages, urophiliacs, and child molesters out there. If anything I'd say that the RL tastes far surpass the fantasy ones. That's why I approach love of lolis with caution -you never know when your fetish is simply aesthetic and platonic, and when it will become a big part of your sexuality. Ahem, I know loli porn is a sensitive matter here, so admins, feel free to edit this, though I wanted to state my opinion. Do you think eroge have invented anything at all? Most of those fetishes are as old as the world. Eroge just cater to that.

Even if things like Kud Wafter or Angel Beats are picked up, they need time to bring them over (unless they're already secretly working on the TL). I still have to see those Yuzusoft novels announced in 2017 that were picked up by Sekai. TL;DR even if something like Kud Wafter is announced this year, it may be some time before we see the TL; look at Little Busters itself.

Dynasty Warriors 9 comes out this week but I'm sad...

Get The Longest 5 Minutes, man. Maybe some 2-player fights in Dragon Ball Fighter Z if you really want multi. -
The future of different western eroge publishers
Okarin replied to bakauchuujin's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Why all the flak for Sekai? That's a thing I never comprehend. Sekai has brought over really good novels, like Clannad or Root Double. To Steam, too, with those great sales. -
Fuwa Confession: I Have to Take a Complex Decision
Okarin replied to Sendu's topic in General Discussion
Come to X-pain, we welcome about everyone. Japan is about the opposite of Denmark I think, Denmark has sparse population and few big cosmopolitan cities, whereas maybe you really belong in cosmopolitan Tokyo. While in Japan, the countryside does exist, it also has a lot more people than Denmark. -
I still like the original game for what it is. I'm not really interested in pushing the story further by getting the main game. It's like they did a sequel to Within Without with high production values and expanded playtime -what gives?

Yuuko has been defiled Now you who's reading this, be a good fapstronaut and skip H-scenes, especially if they're vanilla.
-
Heroines like Chihiro are rare, not in their timid and fragile personality, but in their approach to sex. Even Kohane from Period fucked like a queen. ef just proves that nakige are one of the better brands of VNs.

I liked the original "Carpe diem". The gimmick seemed interesting to me, it was like a very mini-mini-MINI DDLC-before-DDLC. Though DDLC has had a much bigger impact, obviously, as the gimmick is better. Funny thing, I played both Carpe diem and DDLC almost on release.

Otome. I frigging knew it. Also I've become aware that NaNoRenO is a thing

Fapping material always takes the shortest route. As should be. Making you get off has value in and on itself, so why bother adding fluff? That must be the way eroge companies think.
-
Like I said, the point of nukige, and also eroge H-scenes, is to make the player, almost universally a male, get off. It's kinkier to force the girl a little than listening to her requests in bed. Maybe you'd have sweet romance in otome and some OELVNs. Take "The way we all go", the romantic triangle there (with some extra sides to the polygon) is well handled. I couldn't believe my eyes when I read about adolescents behaving like adolescents, and that's because it isn't constrained by the usual tropes. If you want Japanese tropes, you have hundreds of Japanese novels and wouldn't have to consider The way we all go.

I'm thinking of getting Miagete Goran Steam version, and thus embracing MoeNovel's creed. That's how little I like H-scenes in general. Yume Miru Kusuri is not a "fun" VN, it's a weird VN that tries too hard to be good, I say they didn't quite make it. If anything I'd compare it with the also cringeworthy A Profile. A Profile tried hard to be darker and dreary, while YMK is more like everyday problems cranked up to 11.

In Clockup's words, as seen in Eroge (the game by that name), "the goal of an eroge is to make the player fap as much as possible". In order to do so, some liberties are taken.

How do you get those games? Importation, right? Because I don't think they sell such games in the West, even in the virtual store.
