I really don't care, but if a VN is gonna have choices, then the consequences of those choices should be possible to predict (in other words, no lulzurdead stuff). But titles like Umineko or Higurashi wouldn't work with choices.

Ever 17 should be around 30 or so hours, and if you liked Steins:Gate you should like that too. Never 7 is kind of good too, and Remember 11 is a mindfuck, but it has some serious problems (read: it is unfinished.) Rewrite should also be under 50 hours, especially if you skip some of the less liked routes. Dysfunctional Systems and Planetarian are both pretty short (around 2 hours, tops) but worth it, and if you don't mind gameplay, playing one of Eien no Aselia or Galaxy Angel's routes should also take you way less than 50 hours. Anyway, I don't really care for H-scenes either, but you can always skip them. After all, some of the best novels out there (Muv Luv Alternative, Sharin no Kuni, Kara no Shoujo) do have H-scenes.

Technically it was Radical Dreamers, quite a while ago, but I had no idea what it was. Lost Odyssey's short stories may also count too. My first "real" experience was playing Ever 17 because it was recommended on a CRPG forum (people said it was a mindfuck... they were right), loved it, then I finished the rest of the infinity series and 999, chaos head, steins:gate and then I was hooked. I think I was lucky, Ever 17 is a great jump-on point for the medium. I would have probably quit altogether if I had started with Fate/Stay Night or Muv Luv Extra.

The volcano part, or at least the talk Shirogane has with Meiya before destroying the rock ends up being quite important in the long run.

When I try to use PPF-O-Matic it says that it can't open the image file.

But it is a psx game, according to the instructions you are just supposed to load it with epsxe, no installation needed.

Hi all. I recently downloaded Suikogaiden 2, followed all the instructions but the game is in Japanese. Afterwards, I tried to apply the patch but the program they (translators) recommended wouldn't let me do it to that iso. Anybody know how to get this game to run?

Starting to play Gensou Suikogaiden II, never though someone would actually translate them. Too bad Konami more-or-less killed the suiko universe, it was great.

One VN with simple english that comes to mind is Go! Go! Nippon!. Also, not only the grammar and language used are pretty simple, but they do show some pretty cool stuff about Japan, and having lived in Tokyo for a while I know that some of the main character's observations are spot-on (vending machines EVERYWHERE). Not a great game, but fun anyway.

First one I played was actually Radical Dreamers way back then, but I had no idea that was a VN lol.
