My Steam account was about games once... Now it's just a testament to my fall into extreme weebness. I share it with my brother, who mostly just plays some online games once in a while, but I don't think he ever checks out our user page. Otherwise, he would call for an exorcist by now.

'Newton and the Apple Tree' Kickstarter Victory!

So I guess you'll have kinds of mixed feelings about the h-scenes... -
Ah, those Sci-fi tropes... Sunrider series also have that "lost technology" talk all over the place. It's a shame there's no official English release though, this would sell like hotcakes on Steam.

Evil Moon SpiritsTM are always watching over Fuwa, it seems. :] So... Welcome? I hope from now on you'll continue to lose unreasonable amounts of time here and share our communal misery in active fashion!

Post pics you like (Powered by Jun Inoue™)
Plk_Lesiak replied to VN-Angel's topic in The Coliseum of Chatter
Well, we'll see her back in -Le Volume sur Hiver-. It's one of my motivators when it goes to learning Japanese, I'm pretty sure I can get to high enough level to read the last episode faster then JAST can get to translating it. xD -
You guys think that these new topics every day are a good thing? I try to save some time for actually reading VNs over here. ;p With one OELVN lately I've gone as far as muting the voice acting early on, because I've found it unbearably poor. My other nemesis is partial voice acting - if it's going to pop up in random moments in between mostly silent segments, I'll mute it without hesitation. I understand that indie devs often don't have the budget and still want to show off some VA work (and especially have voiced h-scenes, as some people can't work with silent porn), but it's just not something that works for me. It completely takes me out of the experience. So, if voice acting isn't going to be done really well, I prefer having none. I can give voices to characters in my mind well enough and "silent" VNs are often more convenient to read. I don't think I ever hated VA in a Japanese one though and if it's really good it can be a bonus. Simply, coming from western VN experience as my first contact with the whole genre, it's not something I really care about.

My tastes are super-vanilla, but it's also because I really can't truly separate my RL preferences and moral stances from what I like in fiction - if I wouldn't accept something in real life, I won't really enjoy it in VNs - or at least I won't enjoy it "that way", because obviously many fucked up themes, including explicit ones, can be used for crafting an interesting story rather than just offering fap material. I haven't played through any of those grimdark VNs such as Euphoria or Saya no Uta, but I don't think I'd hate reading them - I'll just never look that way when looking for a turn-on either. For the same reason though, I don't truly understand people that are into various rather harmless sexual themes in VNs and anime (lesbian romance, incest between consenting adults etc.) but go on rants how they don't accept such stuff in the real world. I mean, maybe they're just fapping to those stories without catching any meaning associated with them? It just feels like pure bigotry to me. EDIT: And with the question on the translating the VN/anime fetishes into RL, I think Kaguya's post would be a good point of reference - while he can pretty easily implement his more moderate BDSM fantasies in real world, my chances at becoming a cute lesbian dating other cute lesbians are rather slim.

Hyper and airheaded heroines are something I usually can't stand, as more often than not they're just dumb and infantile and I don't see any possible appeal in that. Especially when it comes to romance, it has this creepy vibe of hooking up with someone who's emotionally and intellectualy still a child. Every archetype can have its appeal if done right though. I like tsundere/kuudere types the most, just because how satisfying it is when their attitude finaly changes, but I've enjoyed all kinds of pretty clear archetype iterations in different VNs and anime.

Is the new avatar an expression of that inner turmoil?

Can I take your spot in Norway when you emigrate back to the Animuland?
-
Does it count when there's no "dere" though? Or are you actually like that even when you like someone? You two won't escape from elaborating on it now.
-
Oh, well... You know, you should think this over. I know that these 3 might seem like your only options right now, but there's always a way out. For example, you can jump off a bridge. -------------------------- But, putting tasteless shitposting aside, Yosuga no Sora looks most interesting out of those two (please, don't touch Hoshimemo until they fix it, unless you're going for the original version), but it seems to only have a partial patch available? Do you mean to read it in Japanese?

So, I'm playing The Seven Districts of Sin, a VN apparently no one ever heard about and developer of which was desperate enough to send a review copy to every Steam curator vaguely connected to VNs, and after like 20+ mins of playing stumbled upon this: Well... This is either going to be brilliant or try way too hard and fall flat on its face pretty soon. Voice acting is decent though...
-
Very late "Welcome to Fuwa" for you! I wanted to like your post but I somehow run out of likes for today - I blame that "most awkward" thread. Will try to fix that later.
-
Wow, this thread is pure gold. My story will be super tame compared to some of those above, but stil... I was reading the all-ages Sonohana spin-off, you know, one that doesn't even have much romance in it, and decided to finish it in the morning before my gf wakes up. So, obviously she woke up earlier than usual and walked into my room exactly at the beginning of the only kissing scene in the whole game. Maybe I looked unreasonably engrossed in the romantic conclussion of the story, but the look she gave me nearly made me wish I was cought reading some actual porn. Hmmm... I think I have to go through that scene again, I couldn't really focus when finishing the read that day. :]

Uhhh, buying things from SakuraGame is like donating money to your local nazi party, but I guess they indeed have a lot of ecchi...
-
Yeah, I mean, I know you're right, it's just that people seem to do that often, I'm a pretty slow reader but I'm quite sure I've seen many titles that had heavily underestimated playtimes and I rarely remember to actually go to VNDB page and correct that.
-
I think VNDB length is often set as the time you need for a single playthrough, rather than how long it'll take you to 100% the game. So it is 5-6 hours to get to your first ending but the route variation is pretty significant. :] And yeah, I very much like the more casual/tame storytelling that most otome games offer. I don't enjoy the romance itself as much as I do with yuri, but everything I've read for the "Otome Month" posts was very much enjoyable. I like using the blog to force some more diversity into my reading schedule BTW, it makes things more interesting. Thank you, I'll always leave a few of those between edits, so pointing that out is helping rather than whining.
-
Well, I'm doing that now I guess? I don't really put much attention to it now, it's a side thing that I can very easily manage alongside the blog, I was going to push it a bit more when I had more recommendations ready. I mentioned the lack of followers mostly to point out how surprising receiving that review copy was. :]

Uuuh... Does she only like puzzle/dating sim style things? When it goes to VN-like smutfests Demon Master Chris and Sakura Dungeon come to mind, both are simple dungeon crawlers, but really mostly just fanservice vessels.

Craziest Synopsis You Read for a Nukige
Plk_Lesiak replied to mitchhamilton's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Maybe... I have a lot of faith in its capability to create problems though. :> PS Is that a new signature? I approve. :3 -
Hello there Lovely, Lovely People of Fuwa! Today I've published a review of a game that I'm not sure I fully recommend playing, but which was very interesting to go through and shows a lot of promise when it goes to the development team behind it. It's also another freebie, so I encourage you to check out the article, to find out whether you might find it interesting enough to invest some time (and no money) into it. I also have a few announcements: surprisingly, my comically unpopulated Steam curator page received its first review request and a free copy of The Seven Districts of Sin: The Tail Makes the Fox, a quite overlooked, but interesting-looking comedy/romance VN. If it's good enough, I will try to publish a review of it as soon as I'm done with the Otome Month thingy. If not, I will make a short "bonus post" about it and publish it outside of the typical Friday schedule. In less optimistic news, I really wanted to review Cinderella Phenomenon for the otome event, but I've realized that there's no way I'll find the 30+ hours to go through it all and review it properly in the coming weeks, so I'm sadly postponing it indefinitely. Writing about it would make especially little sense soon after a great review of it was published by @Mr Poltroon on his blog, if you haven't seen it yet, do it now. In its place, a will write a post about a rather tiny, but quite interesting and unusual VN, that is worth looking at for completely different reasons than CP, but should be a lot of fun to write (and hopefully read) about nonetheless. For now, I hope you'll enjoy this week's post! Next week there's supposed to be another large Steam sale coming, so I'll try to provide another list of juicy OELVN discounts. PS Also, while definitely no one cares about it, I've corrected the final score on my Sepia Tears review to 3,5. I've realized that game deserves more credit for the things it does right and also doesn't really belong with other VNs I've given that rating to. Have a great week everyone!

Although a significant portion of VNs produced in the West is published for free on platforms such as Steam or Itch.io, most of them are very short and simple projects, often made by starting-out developers or as quickly put-together entries for contents such as Yuri Game Jam. Still, from time to time, it’s possible to find a VNs on a completely different scale also available as free-to-play releases – AIRIS, created by Ebullience Games for NaNoRenO OELVN event and published on April 2017, is definitely among the most expansive games of this kind, with proper route structure and impressive story variation, that will require you many hours to fully experience. While at first glance this otome might look like a generic fantasy romance, it offers a few fairly unique ideas (which I will not spoil in the review) – and those go far beyond its loudly advertised inclusivity, expressed through various LGBT+ themes. While not straying far from the typical formula of the genre, AIRIS indeed offers both a fully-fledged yuri romance route and another one focused on a non-binary character. More importantly though, it takes the somewhat overused trope of MMORPG and gives it an amusing spin – one which created some really interesting storytelling opportunities, even if their execution often left something to be desired.
