  1. Danganronpa series could be a good change of pace if you're sick of SoL titles. Analogue is also cool if you're willing to try something very atypical with sci-fi and investigation elements.
  2. You mean, consistently horrible, with pretty much two exceptions (Dungeon + to a lesser extent Fantasy)? I think I can accept SeniorBlitz's point, Dungeon looks like an accessible and decent - quality VN hybrid, but I would only include it with a warning to avoid everything else Winged Cloud has ever made or will make in the future.
  3. If I remember well, most Japanese eroge and nukige are licenced to be distributed exclusively in Japan, so you basically shouldn't even have them outside of the country. Applying the patch, just like modding, is not strictly legal, but it's also in this grey zone where it's inconceivable for an average user to be charged with anything - in practice, only people creating and distributing those patches can potentially get in trouble. And because translation patches themselves are a violation of intellectual property laws and are targeted towards "improper" use of media licensed for Japan only, Japanese corporations have sticks showed far too deep up their asses to actually take them and turn them into official releases - that would mean more or less officially condoning those illegal practices they originated from. There are also very legitimate issues concerning compliance of many eroge and nukige with western child porn and obscenity laws, along with ratings and other legal issues. If I'm wrong on any of this please someone correct me.
  4. Sounds like the right way of celebrating to me.
  5. I never knew this was a thing, but now I want all of my VNs read by Wayne June. Can we start a crowdfunding to hire him, to read Saya no Uta at least?
  6. I liked it too, although I think that it's pretty much dependent on whether you like the theme, for me it was actually getting pretty tiring by the end - it's only that many times you can watch people getting unreasonably excited over a dish. When I look at Food Wars adverts now they look like hell to me, even though I believe the series is in reality just as great as people make it out to be. I just won't be able to stand these over-the-top "foodgasm" sections in any piece of media for a while. I have to admit though that the lore and characters in "Restaurant..." were for the most part great. Every moment that focused on Aletta was pretty much automatically my favorite one, but the rest of the cast didn't fall that far behind. ;]
  7. Representative of the morally superior, opressed people of the world, of course. I've added a proper reference to the original post though, some people might not recognize the inspiration from the country producing best anti-american insults. ;p
  8. I would say yes considering the reactions it gets from people, the free episode seems to work fine as a standalone thing (I know someone mentioned reading it in another thread, first-hand experience would be appreciated). Are there nukiges that would actually make this list? And I would include yuri titles for the time being, there's not many super-high quality ones TBH and it seems we're going with one big list for now rather than a few small ones.
  9. As a representative of the OELVN lobby I would propose switching Cinders for one of the untranslated titles. Although it's not tagged as otome on VNDB... I wonder if that means I'm missing something about the game or just no one added the label. Will have to verify that soon.
  10. While there might still be a few hours of 2017 left for you American pig-dog imperialists, who dominate this site, here in Europe midnight is closing in. On this occassion I wish you all a happy new year, with a lot of time for your favorite otaku media, quality western VN releases and all your dreams coming through. Let's have a lot of fun in 2018 and let's Make Fuwa Great Again! Happy New Year!
  11. That's so untrue though
  12. Confession: You know, I'm not THAT much into yuri, I'm just playing with it as a personal gimmick of sorts on the forums and mention it all the time for fun... ...or that's what I was at least telling myself, until I've posted that Yuru Yuri fanart in the Christmas thread and spent like half an hour just looking at it in silence. So yeah, I'm completely hooked.
  13. I don't think there's any definite answer to that - it seems they more or less improvised when making the sequels to tie it all together, without ever truly clearing out the lore. If you watch the first season of the Grisaia anime, they've modified the plot there to include all routes in one timeline - I guess it's the closest thing to the "canon" version of Kajitsu that we'll ever get.
  14. Although there's a good change that global warming will kill us all before this happens and save us from all the moral quandries connected to artificial humans.
  15. Nice, informative post Person I Haven't Seen Before. You're planning to write more of these?
  16. Why the self-agression though?
  17. I sure agree when it goes to Analogue. I've also heard great things about Lucid9 but haven't played it yet. I can already add Kindred Spirits on the Roof and Flowers series when it goes to yuri. Althought if we just go dropping titles like that I pity anyone trying to turn it into a list of any kind. ;]
  18. Not taking anything from the effort and general usefulness of the Kaguya's list, I would be all for replacing it with/transforming it into a few smaller, genre-specific ones. I think it would be much more convenient, TBH a list of 50 "must-read" titles is a bit more headache-inducing than useful to me personally - it's probably thousands of hours of reading material and when I'm actually looking for recommendations, it's for something much more specific than just universally recognized "kamige" - I can just look those out by userscores on VNDB. Also, making this kind of list makes sense mostly if it gets a permanent, visible place on the forums, so it can serve people that are new to VNs or those exploring new genres. A blog entry would just get buried under tons of other posts after a few weeks and no one would be able to find it later without some serious forums archaeology - it would simply miss the point.
  19. Well, once more, the guiding logic was how deeply its on sale, so - 75% beats - 25% (also it's hard to argue that getting Asphyxia for a dollar and a half isn't a good deal). During the spring sale I might do one based just on final prices, like "best ones to buy for less than $5", Sweetest Monster will surely be included.
  20. DDLC is free, it would kind of miss the point to include it in a post about Steam discounts.
  21. Man, all those long posts... You sure seem quite passionate about that whole flesh-waifu idea...
  22. As the conclusion of my Yuri Game Jam marathon I've just finished reading The Sad Story of Emmeline Burns and while I was probably in a vulnerable mood today, I still didn't expect it to hit me as hard as it did. A beautifully written little VN, with some horribly sad moments but hopeful and touching above anything else - exactly my kind of story. I didn't even mind it being as short as it was, it really used the time well and developed the characters just enough to make their stories impactful. Now I'm just not sure if I should cry some more or try to write something to channel all the feels. :')
  23. I'm not so sure about that, considering how many people play Nekopara without noticing anything wrong with the scenario presented to them, I'm pretty sure large percentage of them would have little problems with buying an artificial, conscient sex-slave and keeping it as a quasi-house pet, unless the social stigma would deter them from doing so. I also have a very low opinion of the human race in general, so hopefully I'm just too pessimistic...
  24. Hah, the part about AU high school spin-off got me by surprise. It sounds like an adaptation of a bad fanfic. In a way I wish that was done more often though, sometimes after reading through a really tragic or suspenseful VN I wish I could see a story where these characters get a happy ending. Is the main game depressing enough to justify it? I usually think of otome as games that have a happy, romantic conclusion at least as one of the options.
  25. 9/10, those robots are disturbingly attractive Even if you're responding to question, in this thread, remember to always rate the avatar above first. Breaking the chain is a grave offence against the forums' shitposting ethic. ;p
