Yeah, the gameplay sure is pretty shitty. I played the game once and I was done with it. Now it's only the character maker, but man that is fun

Here v2.1 Make sure you are selecting every possible mod when installing, since I couldn't tell you which package it is from.

Nope, I installed the latest version of Koikatsu HF Patch, so I'm guessing it's one of the mods that it's included in there.

So there's this hentai game called Artificial Academy 2 where you create some characters, put them in a school and wait for relationships among them to begin developing. It was honestly pretty boring the first time I tried it out, but one thing that catched my interest was the character maker. It had a lot of customization options, and it was really fun to try to recreate your favorite waifus Well, turns out that a couple days ago I came across the spiritual succesor of AA2, Koikatsu. Actually I read somewhere that it should've been called AA3, but they had who knows what problems and they ended up changing the name. The game is still pretty boring gameplay-wise, but if the AA2's character maker was good, this is nothing short of amazing. Welp, I open this thread because I already got addicted to the character maker and I figured that if there's more people here who play this game we could share some of our custom waifus I'll start with this cutie I made today: I called her Nókts, and she's an original character, so in principle I didn't consciously based her on anyone. EDIT: I change some things I wasn't so sure about Nókts, and here is the result: Download

Can't decide which of this VN's to play during the Holidays...
Thyndd replied to +StrikeR+'s topic in Recommendations
It's the latter tale that's sad, and yeah, you can expect drama comparable or even beyond any KEY work. It's also way darker than the first tale. The first tale is actually pretty 'lighthearted'. There's some drama, yeah, but nothing that will leave with with a crippling depression Both tales are a bunch of intertwined love stories that take place during Christmas, so you can expect a very 'christmasy' atmosphere. Oh, and it's a beautiful VN, one of my favorites and therefore I can't go without recommending it -
I used to do juggling balls out of rice when I was a kid.

Suki Suki aka If You Love Me Then Say So Released
Thyndd replied to littleshogun's topic in Visual Novel Talk
No, I actually can. You're saying that it pisses you off because you don't understand shit of what they're saying. Yeah, that's a problem and I agree that it was probably better to just leave the broken English within brackets or something. But come on, there's much more to a translation that that. It's one thing to disagree with how something was handled and openly say so, and another thing to blow it out of proportion and be outright rude about it. If I were to guess the thought process behind that... it's probably because the translator felt that some honorifics felt more relevant than others to show the character's relations. Again, it's not necessarily something I personally agree with (though I'm still kind of unresolved as to whether to keep or not honorifics in Japanese translated literature... but I'm rather inclined towards the 'no') but you'll have to explain me why that's that big a deal as to completely ruin a translation. Would it really be that much better if he'd just removed all honorifics? Is it really that big an issue? It's definitely not a good translation for your blood pressure, I'll give you that. -

Well, what do you know, looks like there probably weren't that many good arguments -

I mean, I might've missed them, then? All I've seen is how the translation is shit because of the occasional broken Spanish that was used as a substitute for the original broken English (you might not agree with the decision, but can you explain how this makes the whole TL shitty?), and the fact that a very specific and context imbued 'お兄ちゃん' was translated as 'dude'. Just please enlighten me and explain to this poor ignorant why that's worth shitting all over this TL and asking for the perpetrator to get fired. Or, if you have better arguments, then by all means say so. The last thing I'd want to do is to put words in your mouth. -

It's called having your priorities in order. Besides, the fact that you or I don't agree with a particular translation decision doesn't make the translation poor by any stretch. If you're going to bash a proper translation, which if you didn't notice, we don't get that many, you'd better have your damn good reasons. And let me remind you, you don't have to pay for that translation. It's up to you whether you buy it or not, and you're perfectly entitled to do so; not so much to put down other people's work without a sound argument, though. -

Honestly, complaining about minor details like this when we've got plenty machine translations out there to deal with seems just retarded. -

Funny little strip. But I was talking about the language, not the setting. Admittedly language and culture often go hand in hand, and it's impossible to translate something into another language without many cultural references being lost in the process, if you want the translation to sound natural. That's a price you must pay regardless. Or you know, if you are so dissatisfied, learn the freaking language and read the original. -

As a fellow weeb I can actually understand both sides of the discussion, but I'm inclined to be more lenient towards the translation. For those who complain about Honorifics, 3rd person speech and other idiosyncrasies of the japanese language. Think about it. Imagine if this wasn't a Japanese-English TL, but a, for the sake of a weird example, Quechua- English TL. Would you he so set on keeping intact all the little quirks of the language as well? Yes, I understand that most of the audience will already be somewhat familiar with the japanese language and culture, but that's something a professional translator cannot (or should not) take for granted. They need to deliver the experience in a way it looks like it was never in another language in the first place. Which is pretty much impossible, but they should aim for the closest they can get. That said, that 'dude' is still hilarious as fuck -
I'm not planning on completely skipping the readings per se, but I'm following Heisig's book for the moment so it's not something I'll learn at the beginning. After all, what good will knowing the readings do me if I don't yet have the vocab? After I'm done with muh kanji I'll be learning a lot of new words through sentences in context, and it's through that process that I hope I'll adquire the (most common) readings. Speaking of which, it's been a week since I opened this thread. So far I'm being consistent listening to as much japanese as I possibly can and I've gone through the first 200 kanji of Heisig's RTK. Let's start the second week!

Hmm... I dunno man, you might be a faster reader than you think perhaps? Take a look here. I don't know where exactly they took that data from, but I'm assuming it must be somewhat accurate at least? If some day in the future I reread MLA I'll time myself, for the sake of curiosity. It's on him, actually. I was never mad to begin with As you said, I was saying that it was a relief that japanese media is still out of sight for SJWs and they don't get to stick their noses on it, demanding censorship here and there like it's been the norm during the past few years. I've said it many times already on these forums: I stand by the principle that fiction should ALWAYS get a free pass, no matter the content. Yes, my "M'kay" answer was "sassy", but if my "response is so worthless that isn't even worth the trouble of clicking a notification" for him, I didn't feel like going into any more detail. And he should get off his high horse if he thinks I care whether he reads or not my posts. I found his sudden outburst of irritation and following temper tantrum genuinely funny for a supossedly grown adult: no irony or ill intentions were meant.

Thank God. I would say it actually is around 50 to 60 hours for most people. Did you keep track of the time? Otherwise it could be that you were so engrossed that time just flew by It makes me sad that you didn't get what you expected from MLA. I know how harmful hype can be to one's experience, that's why I always try to keep it to a bare minimum, even with the so called and widely regarded as 'kamiges'. Oh well, I'm glad that at least you enjoyed the technical aspects. For a 2006 VN (and even by today's standards) it's freaking amazing.

And 6 years later, people are still shitting on SAO. Some things never change huh

The Different Treatment of Sex Scenes: Japan vs. America
Thyndd commented on LemiusK's blog entry in Lemurian Ruins
Hmm, but who exactly are we talking about? I'm pretty sure most of us here on fuwa are not embarassed/bothered by 2D titties either, y'know. If it's only eroge players both in Japan and elsewhere, then there might not even be a difference in mentality to speak of. Maybe the average Japanese denizen is not so open to porn in their entertainment media. Maybe since the otaku culture was born in Japan they are more aware of its existence so they don't get so taken aback, but at the same time they may be who reject it the most. -

Well, I don't know how they actually see it, but I get why at least on this side of the planet people would think of it as nothing more than masturbation fodder I mean, I know I do. And the reason is that sex scenes are usually so over the top that they often feel like a parody. I know I'd love myself some more intimate and romantic h-scenes, but heh, good luck with that. It's like in anime related media everything has to be exaggerated, including sex. Well, when you think about it and compare it fairly with every other aspect, like comedy, it actually makes a whole lot of sense. -

What Maggie said. They usually go by aliases, so it's not like they absolutely don't care about being recognized as eroge voice actresses. However I think it's true that there's a big conceptual difference in the way Japanese people see their porn in VNs. Because yeah, most of the times, h-scenes are just porn, the cases when it actually adds something to the story in any form being pretty rare. Let's call it what it is, and it is porn. The thing is, in the west in general (and EEUU in particular, I dunno, I'm not 'murican) we kind of have a really hard time wrapping our heads around how porn could be anything more than porn. Either it's a porn movie, or a 'normal' movie. No in-betweens. That doesn't seem to be the case in Japan. You can have an amazingly written story with some porn on top of it to spice things up a little, and nobody bats an eye. And honestly, being so used to it nowadays, neither do I anymore. -
That's the thing, isn't it. Depression as a mental illness is not a mood. It cannot be cured by the "power of love" any more than a flu can. It is however possible to offer love to sick people so that they feel cherished and more relaxed. It won't heal them per se, but it definitely will make the healing process a lot more bearable.
