You can try to make Cocoro Function more family friendly, but the story won’t have the same feeling as the original. I’m currently running a LP of that game.

Which VNs have you legally bought in some way?
WorldofAI replied to NowItsAngeTime's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Hmm... let me see: Physical - Japanese Only Steam Other I wish more JP titles were sold digitally given that I’m running out of place to store large cardboard boxes with elaborate artwork. Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft knows about conserving space and delivering it in a compact plastic case. -
I can’t count how many times I reread VNs. Usually when I do a LP for a Japan only game, I play through it initially and then record my 2nd (or 3rd/4th/5th run through). It gives me a heads up on what scenes I should skip when I take it to video processing. I play a few of my favorite parts multiple times so maybe that counts as a reread as well.

Last one #4: Beat Angel Escalayer R I was surprised that lots of people were hoping for Sakura Mori no Dreamers.

I was planning on doing a LP of this but I had to cut it due to the first few scenes. I don’t really know what the rest is like though even though I have an untouched copy of this in my Steam library.

Keep in mind that most recipients of the Nobel prize regardless of subject are in their 60s and 70s. They have been at their profession for many years before they were able to become notable enough to be nominated for the Nobel prize. I don’t think any of the VN writers have been writing for that long... 10 years, maybe, but 40 years? Don’t think so. Also, looking at the people of the Swedish Academy, the deciders for the winner of the Nobel prize in literature, I doubt any of them would pick up a VN or anime, manga, LN.

I see reading VNs on the level of reading manga or LNs. Sure, it has text that you have to read plus some to lots of illustrations, but there is absolutely no way I would call those education material. You aren’t thinking too much when you read through these stories as they’re written in a manner that’s easy to understand... simple vocabulary, simplex syntax, and simple sentence structure. The story is mostly written in a language that is used in daily conversations. Real education material would be heavy literature novels that always gets the reader thinking about the author’s way or writing. They use more complicated vocabulary and sentence structure that can be interpreted in multiple ways and it sometimes requires some knowledge of history to be able to understand what the text means. These are the books that professors will recommend as good resources when taking intermediate to advanced language classes which can be necessary if you want to be able to understand complicated material.

From time-to-time, I enjoy rewatching parts of the game. Plus, it doesn't require as much concentration as it would if I was playing it fresh. Outside of the home, you should always be alert for other things around you... especially when you're using an office computer to watch VNs.
-
I usually read VNs at home despite owning laptops. My laptops are high powered laptops and won't survive long on batteries. Also, the last thing I want is to get unwanted attention. At most... I watch my own Let's Play videos at the office. Easy to hide and I always censor unsafe parts before uploading it.

Thoughts on Denuvo / DRM in Visual Novels?
WorldofAI replied to phantomJS's topic in Visual Novel Talk
For me, no matter how compact or lightweight the DRM is, I can always notice it. The starting up of the game is already a big giveaway given that a DRM-protected game needs to go through additional steps to connect, authenticate, and decrypt all necessary files to be able to run. For DRMs that require you to be online in order to continuously authenticate, you will notice that the constant authentication will eat up network bandwidth along with CPU power and memory... wasting resources that could be better used on the game itself. It doesn't have a noticeable effect with slow 2D or 2.5D games like most VNs, but it will for games that demand intense graphical and computation power. -
Thoughts on Denuvo / DRM in Visual Novels?
WorldofAI replied to phantomJS's topic in Visual Novel Talk
I’ll admit it. I always run the game program with the DRM cover removed. I don’t like how the DRM uses additional computer resources in terms of space and processing power. It also triggers multiple virus alerts with my antivirus programming suspecting it’s some kind of malware. While this shows a promising example of not using DRM, most Japanese game studios won’t agree with this. They still insist on the old-fashioned method of selling hard copy DVDs with DRM protections. In fact, some VN makers won’t license titles to outside distributors unless they promise to put some sort of DRM on the final product. A good of number of VN makers also don’t offer the download option either. Most of the JP VNs use Settec Alpha-ROM even though that DRM has been fully cracked several years ago. The reason I mention the idea of dongle is because I haven’t manage to witness a fast and easy solution to cracking that. Fast and easy as in anyone getting a DRM free game engine within hours of unboxing it or downloading it. This is one of the reasons why some studios want to make their games only for consoles like the PS4. The PS4 hardware and OS provides some levels of security as opposed to the open platform of PCs. -
Magical Marriage Lunatics released on MangaGamer!

You should complain to Moonstone about it. They rarely release star titles anyways. -
Thoughts on Denuvo / DRM in Visual Novels?
WorldofAI replied to phantomJS's topic in Visual Novel Talk
From my experience, no matter how secure the DRM system is, it will always be cracked at some point. The DMM.com's DRM is relatively easy to defeat since the actual game engine is sitting beneath another program that handles the DMM functions such as verification and Japan-check. You just have to direct the starting point to the actual engine itself. Most DRMs encrypt and compress the game engine itself and force the computer to run through a series of checks and verifications to ensure that the program is intended to run the way it should. Near the end of the check codes is where they usually check the key/signature/password. However, people can work around these checks by fooling the check codes into believing that the software is being used legitimately. Another problem with DRMs is that they are often used by people who write viruses/Trojans/Backdoors and your antivirus software may confuse the game engine as malware. It sucks having to whitelist a new game to your antivirus software. The best protection I see so far is the use of a hardware dongle. The software is encrypted and compressed in sections and obtains the decryption keys from the dongle. The dongle is inaccessible by any cracking tools and solving the encryption key is infeasible at this time (uses AES-128 encryption). A major problem though with dongles is that you will have to give up one or two USB ports. -
Magical Marriage Lunatics released on MangaGamer!
WorldofAI replied to NowItsAngeTime's topic in Visual Novel Talk
From what I am reading about the synopsis... it somewhat reminds me of my first 18+ VN, Tropical Kiss. I'm not sure whether to try another Moonstone title given that they're a hit or miss for me. Princess Evangile is great, but not another title I am currently doing a Let's Play on. I don't like the theming for their latest games either. Moonstone is consistent with excellent art/character design and the fact that they can release 2-3 titles per year and I have to give credit for that. -
New Moenovel title announced (Adventure of a Lifetime)
WorldofAI replied to Freestyle80's topic in Visual Novel Talk
I'm curious about the translation quality for this title. Given that this title is coming out a month after Cross Channel, that's a speedy time frame for something that takes 10+ hours to read through. -
I didn't really note the addressing of names as I was doing a Let's Play of this game. You really have to hear the dialogue carefully to note the difference. Given the mistake, it is also hard to see how the silent main character addresses other people. I have the original JP version of the game with Pulltop's 15th Anniversary pack if I ever need reference.

From what I could decipher for the error message, it sounds like one or more files are corrupted. "CRC" usually means that the checksum is incorrect.

Compared to the two LoveKami titles (Released in Dec 2016 and May 2017) at 40ishK, 3K is quite a drop. Usually, there is a big surge of sales right at release followed by additional orders accumulating slowly over time.
-
I wonder how this game will sell. According to SteamSpy, steam users are starting to understand the message all you guys are saying. Their previous release, A Sky Full of Stars, only has about 3000 steam users compared to If My Heart Had Wings which has upwards of 150000 steam users. The two LoveKami games are around 40000.

does anyone know how to buy japanese vns
WorldofAI replied to Justanotherguy's topic in Visual Novel Talk
I try to buy it as a download as much as possible, but some publishers only offer it as a DVD box set. The box sets are always overwhelmingly large and it gets hard to find a place to store it when you buy so many of them. Some shops offer select Japanese VNs on the US amazon website. It won't show up if you use the standard search engine so you have to play around with keywords using the Google search engine. -
I looked at the DRM on some of the DMM games I bought and the DRM doesn't do much to protect the game.

How much reading (in a VN) is too much?
WorldofAI replied to milkteebaby's topic in Visual Novel Talk
As long as the story is moving along, then I don't see it being too much reading. I often find some VNs too short though cutting out development and going straight to the result. -
Pretty much anything composed by TwoFive for Pulltop. Here's my most favorite BGM track so far.
