  1. Yeah, Yamato's domination in H-scenes were kinda iffy and sometimes he felt like a rapist which is off-putting, I forgot that side of him lol. I guess I just like sly characters in general though. Just kinda wished Shaon had more personality traits or something that made him stand out
  2. https://vndb.org/v29057 Waga Himegimi ni Eikan o Been reading Wagahime. Minatosoft gave this one their all and is set up to be the next majikoi with its vast array of characters, great world building, and foreign continents to be explored. Reading Wagahime feels kinda unique since the story doesn't feel like a VN but rather the start of your typical adventure manga/anime. I don't know how to explain it its just the vibe it gives. I've only read the Empire's route which is Noa, it has an enforced order reading which is Empire > Republic/Federation > Tenmazoku or the demons. It is long well, compared to what I've been reading recently which is 10-30 hours length, and just the first route took me some time. I don't know what my exact playtime is since I always leave my PC on and I don't exactly close the games I'm playing so im at 60 hours and prob give or take 1/2 or 1/3 of that is my real playtime. Its a lot of things, adventure, s lice of life??, action. It actually feels like an upgraded Majikoi for me since in Majikoi, martial arts take a lot of time in the game, and it requires a ton of suspension of disbelief to think that a bunch of highschoolers are walking bombs but in Wagahime its quite normal since it is a fantasy world, and the power levels are set up properly, no one is Momoyo level of op, there are op characters but they are not op in the sense that they have enemies of similar power level. The humor is funny if you're into the type of humor Majikoi had. The setting is actually well-developed, world building is given a lot of time, and that is not something I expected from this game. There is a sense of history in each faction (although I have only seen the Empire's side but based on the discussions I've read, the Federation and Demon route is even better). As the game is set in a warring world, there will be deaths for some side characters which kinda surprised me given that I really didn't think the writers would actually do that. Characters are mostly likeable, although there are some questionable choices for side characters that don't really contribute humor-wise, they're just kinda irritating which is the two bullies in the class, although maybe they will be explored in future expansions. Routes for side-characters are... Don't expect much they're there for H reasons not for romance reasons. They're just there for a sneak peek and a quick h scene with that character. Its a shame though since a lot of the female side characters are really really good, Escudo is even no.1 in the official poll lol, its kinda obvious she will be given a route in the next expansion, she dominated the ranking a lot. The pacing is good, it doesn't feel unnatural, beginning for the empire route is kinda slow though however it might be because its the first route and some exposition is needed, the usagi uzoku sensei companion you have is a walking exposition although admittedly the character is quite endearing. I initially didn't like Noa, not that I hate her or anything but she is not the character type I usually like however the route gives a lot of time for her development to become a proper monarch and a loving partner and I really did like her character in the end. Shaon the protagonist is... Bland. Compared to Yamato in Majikoi which had a lot of character and personality, Shaon is just kinda a self-insert. He's not exactly a good protag, but not bad either, he's just competent. Although his banter with Minjara, the god he contracted with is funny though. Shaon is not that smart compared to Yamato in Majikoi, but in turn, he is strong and one of the top fighters in the game. Im gonna take a pause reading this since I spent a long time reading the Empire route that I need to take my immersion out first before reading the Federation.
  3. Well Harem VN's are pretty much 80% of all the vn's right now. Recently released good Harem VN's that are on the lighter side I've played is: Making Lovers https://vndb.org/v25366 Renai Karichaimashita https://vndb.org/v29402 Glass Hime to Kagami Well they're not exactly outstanding games but they do their harems and intended goal well. You can take a look at my vndb for games like that since I usually play romance-focused games.
  4. 1. Honorifics should always be preserved for me as it is always jarring for me to read -sama translated as dearest, or some other thing. Honorifics rarely translate well for me unless you preserve it as it is, and anyone who knows a lil bit about jap culture from watching anime, or something, honorifics are an easy thing to understand. I'm assuming that people who read VN's are usually the people who have already watched anime or read manga and naturally learned honorifics from them. 2. Onii-chan should be left as it is as it is almost always jarring to read "big brother". Onii-chan is a popular word in otaku media and it doesn't even need translation most of the time. 3. Should be preserved, same reasoning as 1, its an easy thing to understand for people who atleast knows something about japanese media. 4. Japanese order should be prioritized, and sometimes it makes no sense for the english one to be chosen in the story because sometimes in romcoms, and sometimes in romcoms calling someone by their first name is a plot point and it doesnt make sense in an english order name. 5 and 6: Readibility is prioritized here since well those words are about making a point and usually "it cant be helped" is easy and on the point. 7. Now this is the hard part, making an english equivalent is always best in here however it is incredibly hard as it will be the translators trying to interpret the character and making the joke fit while being funny. Its acceptable to make a japanese joke with a translation note for me as a form of compromise but translators should always try to make an english equivalent for readers.
  5. Oof thanks for that, I was half-asleep
  6. Finished Meikei no Lupercalia/Rupekari. It is a 9.5/10 and I rarely give that score. Even if I haven't read a lot of novels this year, this will be definitely on one of the top ten of what I read this year. It's that good. If you're looking for a focus on acting, something like act-age, it's not that. Their acting skills aren't the focus. The focus is on the theatre of the characters shroud their lives in. The lies they envelop themselves in just to live. How far should you go for theatre, how far did theatre ruin their lives. How deep the characters themselves shroud themselves in their own lives. This isn't a down to earth experience, expect something like Clannad where there is some sort of KEY magic going on. First, I'll discuss the more negative parts that I didn't like, and it's not that many. First, the art itself. While the character designs were fine, their poses are simply strange. The proportions feel off and for such a high quality story, such flaws become more and more apparent. While I'm not an expert in art and honestly, I really don't give much care for it, but it is much more noticeable in such a quality story. Some CG's were absolutely beautiful though and I saved it on my pc as it was just that good. The beginning is kind of weak. When they do plays, the voice-acting and atmosphere carries the scene through a whole new level but the SoL parts in the beginning were kind of standard fare. I was kinda sick of SoL at that time, so I barely played Rupekari like I only played an hour every day or whenever I remember. However, when they reach the point in which they start readying for theatre, it gets a lot better trust me. The flashbacks are a double-edged sword, It is also a positive for me in characterization, but sometimes it throws off the pacing of what's going on. And sometimes it can get a bit dreary reading too many flashbacks. Also, for an MC with that much of a personal history and since this is about theatre, it would have been better if he was voiced but its probably budget constraints or something and I understand that. That's it for the negative parts for me. Now for the positive parts. The music, they didn't have a lot of pieces to play like there were only 26 BGMs in total, but they actually used them quite well, and I never felt much need for more BGMs, what they had been perfect, and it always fit the scenes. I'm not an expert in music too, and I can't delve too much into it, but I know a well-executed sound design when I hear one. The story and the characters. I'll be discussing them both together as the story and the characters and intertwined. This is a story driven by its characters, not the other way around. All the characters are extensively developed. A certain scene will end up with you hating a certain character, but the more you get to know him through his interactions with others and his flashbacks, his personality, his motivations, all are warped, but you can still see where he is coming from. He is just a human, and I didn't expect the guy I hated at first to be one of the characters to make me cry at the end of his character arc. Moments like that are many in this novel, everyone is flawed just like real humans are. Those flaws will irritate you to no end. They will make mistakes but in the end, you will understand them. They have their virtues, all of them are trying to get want in their own way. However, their virtues don't cancel out their flaws, but that's just being human. All the characters are written well and by the end, you'll be loving them all. The flashbacks form something like a third of the story and that's a lot but all of them contribute to the story and make you get to know all the characters. All the characters have their purpose in the story, and getting to know them immerses you more and more in the theatres they play, and their character arc becomes more and more tragic and beautiful. Every side character had their own life, their own mistakes, their regrets, their dreams. All of them dream to stand in the theatre, however life is not that pretty, and it reflects well on the writing. Theatre isn't some all-encompassing good thing, it destroyed some actors themselves, the sacrifices they make that chip at their soul, the ugliness of reality is in full display, however whenever they perform on the theatre, you find yourself enchanted. Maybe all those sacrifices were worth it in the end for this piece of art, and the characters themselves often ask those questions to. "Why do I love theatre? Did I really love theatre? Am I happy now?" All the characters have their own answers, all of them pursue theatre for their own reasons, some of them are just there because that's what they thought that they were born to do. As you get to know the characters, the more you will immerse yourself into the setting and get attached to the characters, and when despair hits them, you'll find yourself despairing as much as they do. The circumstances in which they are in are cruel. It isn't because of what they did or what they are, that's just how life is. This story is not pretty, and often you'll find yourself gripped by the despair of what's happening. There are a lot of separate character arcs happening on screen, and they're brought to their conclusion in their own arcs. In each arc, you'll get to know the character themselves, what lie are they living in, what are they trying to get away from, and how will stand against the ugly truth. The routes themselves are in a way bad ends, and it is obvious why it is. They are bad ends with a story that will let you get to know the characters. The format is branching routes, and it's hard to do a route because the choices you need to do is sometimes morally disgusting. You know it is wrong, but you do it because it's a comfortable lie, but a life built by lies will collapse on its own, and you can never be truly happy. While I liked Meguri's character the most, the choice to go into her route is... Well, I can't stomach it since it feels so wrong. But you know destroying her world of lies will thrust her into the despair of reality, and they show her despair when you make that choice to destroy her lies. Sewa Tamaki, the main character is as much as important as a character than everyone else. He is not the focus of the story, all of them are. While he maybe the main POV of the game, there will be a lot of moments where you play the VN as the POV of another character. I don't have much to say about him without being too spoiler-y. Also, while this is a title that will make you cry, it is not an Utsuge as I have previously mentioned. While the despair and hopelessness will make you feel sad, the ending itself is a hopeful one and an earned happy ending. It's a fitting conclusion although while I may hate open-ended endings, this novel did it good and it made me feel satisfied as this is not a story about romance, but how all of the characters move on from the painful reality and face tomorrow head-on. I highly recommend people to try this. BTW MEGURI NO.1 I wrote this on the fly after reading the VN's while my thoughts are fresh but not that organized. I'll probably edit this to add more and construct my thoughts better.
  7. Reading Rupekari https://vndb.org/v29383 At first, I barely played this game like only an hour a day as it wasn't gripping enough and I was also busy playing other games but now that I played it a lot longer, this game grips you a lot. Its my first time playing an Uguisu Kagura and i was wondering when will the Utsu part in the Utsuge may come and it came it was extremely, extremely good., I'm still not finished but I think I'm nearing the true end. This is not a story about the MC but about all the characters as flashbacks will be heavily used in a theatre format. I can't really formulate my thoughts well enough yet since the feeling is very fresh but it definitely deserves the score it has on VNDB Update: While the formatting for the routes makes sense, it does kinda cheapen the experience for me. Technically the routes are bad ends except for one heroine, her route is basically part of the common route and it makes sense when it happens. I really didn't have any motivation to go through some other routes because well, they are like bad ends, every ending is depressing and the choice you have to make to get into those routes are essentially choices that makes you lie to yourself rather than face the truth, which is the recurring theme for the game. It was hard for me to do one of the girls routes even if I really did like her because, the choice you have to make to enter her route is for me really cruel. I guess I'll play through it once I reach the true end
  8. Reading Rupekari, its my first ugiusu vn, and they're primarily known for creating depressing VN's as far as I know, haven't actually tried one except this one. None of the summaries in their other games piqued my interest as much as rupekari since I have an interest in acting focused stories due to Oshi no Ko and Act:Age. It really does deliver though and it deserves the reviews it has on vndb, although yeah im just a few hours in lol, i barely have any time to read recently and I only read at a snail's pace due to that, I only reached the first real theatre play the protagonist produced which is Hamlet. Seiyuu talent is really apparent here and if you browse r/visualnovels it is full of praise for the voice acting and it deserves it, theatre needs actors that exhibit extreme emotion to make it more understandable to the audience and god damn they do it so god damn well, the first theatre play had mainly been acted by Kohaku and she acts and voices her role so good it enchanted me and I couldn't stop reading their whole play and getting chills from it. Thats where I stopped for the moment since well I'm busy nowadays but I'm excited to read more
  9. https://twitter.com/MangaGamer/status/1369878280015331329/photo/1 This totally flew under my radar, I had no idea Musicus was being translated. I was keeping it in my backlog hopefully to read it one day once I muster the will to read it since its a music VN aaand its suddenly translated. I heard from others its a godly game so im kinda excited about reading it in english
  10. I played the remake. I think people compare it due to its protagonists, both are cheating scum and has little to no redeeming features. But the girls don't have any similarities. In the anime though, the protagonist is really like the school days MC but in the VN he's your basic hetare self-insert MC that is just a tad bit more scummier than general. Just be ready to plow through a lot of uninteresting crap from side characters if you read it though Still a good story for me though due to Ogata Rina and interesting if you're an absolute WA2 fan like me lol.
  11. Played White Album. I played it in one night since I really liked Ogata Rina (Kinda biased since she seemed like a prototype Setsuna WHO STILL REMAINS MY NO.1 HEROINE IN ANY MEDIA), but while I liked this game enough to burn through it fast, I couldn't honestly recommend it to anyone easily. Objectively, I fucking hate this game as it really threw away its potential, while fucking over what it has left. Yes, I'm disappointed very much so. It shares a lot of themes with White Album 2 but fails to reach the same depths, and even what it has got going for it they do it badly. A love triangle, songs are an important point, and some random side characters that have routes. The game starts with you already with a girlfriend named Morikawa Yuki, an up and coming idol who looks like kazusa, although unlike Ogata Rina which is like prototype setsuna, Yuki is nothing like Kazusa as she has that typical quiet deredere childhood friend personality. Your relationship gets a bit strained by her always being busy at being an idol, and thats where Ogata Rina comes in. She's basically prototype setsuna but more outgoing, confident, and also willing to step on anything if its for their goal which is the MC. Both of them are in situations where they are initially at a downhill battle with Haruki being already in love with Kazusa and the MC of WA1 already having a girlfriend, and they will both naturally do things that betray their close friend Yuki/Kazusa for that MC. Unlike WA2 where the fanbase is cleanly divided between Setsuna and Kazusa, Ogata Rina is just too good for the MC. Seriously, Ogata's one of my favorite heroines which is what let me power through this crap VN. Ogata Rina brought this game a few scores up for me. Now let me talk about what I really hated about this game. Reading the synopsis, you would think this is a story-focused VN, since it has a dramatic love triangle. WRONG. ITS PLAYS LIKE A DATING SIM IN WHICH YOU CHOOSE EVERYDAY WHERE YOU GO. That usually only works with school life romcom that doesnt have a clear-cut story heavy setting unlike this one but in this one its kinda jarring. They even write the dating sim parts badly for me, ITS TOO SHORT. You choose someone to hang out with that day and the scene usually ends 2-5 mins depending on how you fast. The flag system also sucks, you can get locked out of events by simply missing a day you could hang out with them. Also you cant just consistently choose Rina everyday, some dialogue choices are locked behind other activities you do with other characters. I just want to focus on Rina not on the other badly designed characters. EVERYTHING IS TOO SHORT, it tries to write too many scenes while trying to make it short as possible and it sucked. It should have focused on the story aspect and just removed the jarring dating system altogether and removed the side characters since who played this game for someone other than Yuki and Rina. While in WA2, the side characters were good, in WA1 they're cardboard. The side characters are mostly bad. I don't know about Sayoko the new character you unlock after you finish a game no way Im going back in the game. But the designs for me are atrocious on some characters. Haruka looks like a man, and not in a trap way, she really looks like one of the bros I talk to everyday and that bothers me. While it is subjective, this is the first time I seriously did not like a design too much and hated it. Also Mana looks like a literal child. The personalities of the side-characters are plain and has no depth and why did Yayoi the manager of Yuki even had a route? I read this story because I love dramatic love triangle and predetermined relationships like having a girlfriend or an ex in a game, yes I enjoy cheating in VN's yes im trash but usually I see a lot of good angst, and warped romance from that and I love reading about fucked-up romances like cheating. However it even doesn't do that kinda properly in this story. In one scene, Rina suddenly kisses the MC, and the MC didn't even think about Yuki that much. While I understand the MC on that route started to love Rina, I'm sure there must be some kind of attachment to Yuki to induce guilt but no, its just one line saying he feels guilty and god damn where's the angst. Atleast Haruki went almost went insane when shit happens. And all that climax leading up to the confession of Rina cheating with the MC was quick. Yuki just slaps rina and fight a few bit and then... end scene. God damn it where is the drama. The MC is a self-insert in a what should have been a story heavy setting, Usually, if there are predetermined relationships in a VN, the protagonist has a semblance of personality but no, the MC here is a cardboard cut-out with his features that stick out is being a coward in admitting his guilt to Yuki. I guess it makes sense if this really was written as a dating sim in mind but it is simply jarring on how the setting is jam packed with possible stories and it instead becomes a dating sim with a few heavy scenes mixed-in due to its setting. I'm writing this right after finishing the VN and lacking sleep so I think I ranted a bit too long lol. Time to sleep and read again what I said tomorrow.
  12. Curious what the reaction of people will be after reading this, I keep hearing that this was a legendary game but reviews I have read and spoilers tend to suggest otherwise. I'm particularly curious on the reaction on the really controversial and crazy parts of KimiNozo. Seriously, it looks like a good serious love triangle but viewing the spoiler tags seem to suggest that the novel is more insane than you think. I'll probably only read it after the translation
  13. When I like something and I'm bored, I read really fast and in long bursts so I usually finish medium length games in a few days and by finish I mean certain routes only. I only tried the route of Orihime, and I didn't even expect to like her. My mind was set on Bernadette, the obvious main girl and in which the common route spends a lot of time on her own monologues. I seriously really liked her personality, although the way she were set-up with the MC is a trope I really don't like which is the "I met this hot girl one time when I was a child and I played with her and I promised *insert a promise that makes the girl blush and will never forget*" It feels really cheap for me as seriously ONE OF THE BEST PARTS OF THE VN FOR ME IS WHEN THE HEROINE AND THE MC FALL IN LOVE WITH EACH OTHER and if it is predetermined at the start without the reader it feels rather cheap and forced, which is sad as I really liked Bernadette's character which is the strong and capable heroine being cool in the outside but inside and personally is extremely cute, gap moe is real. Since the VNDB doesn't have a synopsis, I'll provide one. MC is in one of those families that has lineages that exist to serve the royalty in which they are the butlers, maids, etc. He meets this blond royalty girl who is crying, and he plays with her a short while and the girl's bodyguards take the MC away thinking he was a bad person or some shit, and while being taken away he promises to be by her side and if you read VN's a lot, its pretty easy to know where this is going. Seriously, why the fuck you keep a life-changing promise to a girl you met for only a while lol, is it because she's hot? Yes I really don't like this kind of settings but that aside the VN is actually a pretty good read considering I read a lot of charages and I drop them like flies. I'll discuss the good things about it that I seriously want to see a lot in VN's. This is very big for me and which is having a good side male character, one that actually the writer respects and doesn't make a constant joke of. Instead of having a best friend character that is a total bro, the VN has you have a male friend that takes on a mentor role to the MC and its a good variation on the trope as he is actually capable and isn't a total musclehead as his looks seem to imply, although he does muscle his way a lot. Second, it's actually having a world that moves on its own, rather than having the MC be the kickstarter of literally all events. For example, On the Orihime route, while Orihime was the focus, all events were not centered around her, a non-spoilery event that happened is the revelation that two friends of the MC became real good friends enough to reveal their secrets to one another without the MC, so it implies that they actually do something and have a life without the MC and I actually like that instead of having the MC having to do everything. Also, the presence of smart characters particularly, Orihime and Ella which is the sister of Bernadette, have you guessing what their motives are every time, but particularly its usually Ella you have to be wary around as she is pulling the string out of everything. She pretty much used the MC cleverly for her own gains and that's a plus, too bad she is a side character, she deserved a route. I guess smart characters and intrigue is a staple to this kind of setting which is an academy centered around nobles but it's not given much focus but when it's talked about it's a topic treated with respect. Third, I would normally give this a 8 but Orihime's route elevates it for me since I actually liked this kind of romantic development. Orihime is an ojou-san character that is a game otaku with a group of friends that attend to her and they all do it willingly since she has some good charisma. She talks rather in a archaic japanese which unnecessarily made the reading difficulty harder for me but she speaks in a normal way with other classmates. Orihime only had a low level of attraction towards the MC and the MC too likewise. They just tried each other out by hanging out and dating and that feels rather real to me instead of confessing and reaching max 100% love but rather a slow gradual attraction that explodes to real love. Orihime's conflict at the start pissed me off which is the point of it since it points out her immaturity. In the date, she has her circle of loyal otaku gamer friends/servants to act out a hostage situation and to see if the MC will save her first instead of the other hostages, and it pissed the MC off. It actually made sense from Orihime's perspective as while she may be incredibly smart, she is immature and treats everything as a game and has never had anyone really angry at her before so the MC got pissed at bam, Orihime tries to change and its the explosion that started off their love. And thats why I gave it an 8.5, other VN's should really just execute their tropes better. Also I checked the writer out and its insane for me he also wrote Doshikuro which is like long ass vn dedicated to long hair fetishes and parallel worlds . Didn't expect to write something long but its more of a rant on the things I like to see in VN's rather than the VN itself lol
  14. https://vndb.org/v29402#main Reading Glass Hime to Kagami no Juusha. My playthroughs of VN's are usually ruined by reading bad reviews. I read VN's with the inherent bias that it might be bad due to reviews and well in some cases I enjoyed it a lot more than what the reviewers seemed to suggest. So I went in totally blind and just looked for a random VN from Giga that was recently released and like had only 10 votes on vndb. Unexpectedly, I really liked it. I'm only a few hours in and usually I could tell if it is some cliched crap that is done bad but this VN had everything I could ask for from a random charage VN. It had all of the VA's I loved, mostly Tsukino Kiiro. She's a god at her calm and soothing voice. While the setting seemed average, it is done well and thats enough for me I'm not expecting something like White Album. .
  15. I'm curious what other small or petty thing that will make other people drop a VN. What I seriously hate a lot and make me drop a game is seeing the chapter name in the title bar of the game. For example, PROLOGUE_01. Its not a chapter name but its literally like the file name of the respective chapter. I think Hooksoft games have this like you see in the title bar PROLOGUE_01, or AZUSA01 ASUZA 02 and so on and so on. It makes the game feel for me incredibly short. Like my expectations are immediately cut off. I don't know if I'm explaining it well, but an apt comparison is when you're reading a really good manga and you see the chapter list has only a few chapters.
  16. Bruh, the comments on Shirogane x Spirits were totally right. This didn't really focus on the romance aspect but more on how it builds up and the silly battles. Jesus christ I was surprised while reading that I reached the ending and it didnt feel like an ending. I didn't even see them date lol. I just saw them asking each other out in the end and then fucking but seriously no date or love scenes that much? The H-scenes weren't even that satisfying. Now that the negatives are out of the way, I reallly didn't expect this to be quite good. It knows its strength and uses it a lot. This screamed like something that warrants a fandisc or something as the cast is really fucking big for a mid length game. All of the cast is even interesting and thats something rare in VN's, makes you want a route for all those side characters more lol as I wasn't really interested in the main heroines which are your schoolmates. The game is funny and has something like a majikoi mood and funny. Also in the sprites, only the main heroines have their nipples erect in their uniforms, why? why do that, it aint even that hot. In IRL its hot but in anime it just looks kinda strange IMO. All of the other women characters dont even have their nipples erect so why are the main heroines having erect nipples? Is it because of the uniform of their school? My questions will never be answered and the answer is probably because big titz win by the artists anyway. I read mahoutsukai no yoru as a side vn since damn is the text heavy that it tires me out, gonna reread chusingura while im at it
  17. Based on the cg, is there ntr on Hateshinaku Aoi
  18. Thanks, adding some of them to my wishlist. Its fine for there to be supernatural though as long as its well made and fits in the story well
  19. Been looking for VN's to add to my read order. I really get sick fast of extremely light romcoms that are a dime a dozen today. I mean if they're well made, I read them but its so hard for me to find something that's well made and like that. But a somber or serious romance even if it's just an 8/10, i enjoy it a lot. Something like Aonatsu Line. By specifics on what I mean by the atmosphere, im not saying its deadly serious. I mean something like the setting doesn't really require you to suspend your disbelief, or something like suddenly a transfer student comes in and she introduces herself and she knows you and the class goes what?!?!?!, lucky bastard. Its so far away from normal human beings act that I get annoyed. Something like the following: White Album 2( This is the perfect example of an atmosphere of a VN I am particularly looking for) Kimi no Nagori, Natsu no Ame, Steins;Gate 0( yes this is not a romcom but the atmosphere im thinking of is something like that, its a serious and somber atmosphere ), Aonatsu Line
  20. Hakuchumu was good but as usual for me, I kinda forgot to continue playing it and lost the will to read it. When I'm busy I tend to put off my VN's and then I don't feel like continuing it anymore, a bad habit of mine. Instead, I'm reading two visual novels. One to satisfy my itch for highschool romances that don't blueball you. I usually feel like that when I read romcom's in manga, I just want my progress man. The other VN I read because i actually want a good story. Shirogane x Spirits is the former, good god are the tits big. Why are their nipples popping out from their uniforms, thats seriously one of my peeves in some romcom vn's nowadays. I cant take it seriously when the girls nipples are popping out. Dont they wear a bra? Aside from that its standard-fare. Have played like only an hour of it but its like majikoi lite. Battle romcom in which there really isnt much complex in the battles as its more of just showing strength and emotion stuff. I read this on and off as I get easily bored if i read this kind of game (basically an average romcom game) too long. Mahoutsukai no yoru is the latter, and it's beautiful as hell. The art, ui, everything about it is absolutely stunning. The OST is amazing too, its kind of immersive in that way, it feels like im watching a movie. Sadly though there wasn't voice acting but its actually pretty good in spite of that. I prefer voices though as it helps me know the character better but its an artistic choice of the author. Its been long since I actually read something like this in which the monologues are incredibly long, last time I read something like that was oretsuba and that was a year ago. Nasu delivers though, there's just something about the way he writes that is enchanting and also funny. Soujuurou makes me laugh a lot along with Aoko. TBH I didn't expect Aoko's personality to be a neurotic student council president though, my image of her from Tsukihime was someone who goes with the flow and a genki-ko (cheerful girl).
  21. Reading Hakuchuumu no Aojashin Its extremely highly rated on vndb and I always take vndb ratings with a grain of salt but if its a consistent 9 or 10 score on a non-moege game, i think i can trust it a lil bit. VN's extremely good though, honestly I dont like this kind of format for a VN which is an anthology. Its 3 loosely connected stories that are all somehow connected to one main story. case 1-3 are all different stories with different atmopsheres and even totally different UI so it kinda feels like a different game sometime. The order you read the cases are all randomized, I got case 3 first which is a rather light story with an interesting cast. It feels rather real with a rather bright atmosphere and I liked that as all of the characters made me laugh in some way including the protagonist which isnt a blank slate but rather has a real personality. Warning though, I know some people would be pissed if their love interest in the VN isnt a virgin, Sumomo the main girl had a bad past in which she slept around for money. Its not really a spoiler since its in the tag on her VNDB but this kind of things are better of mentioned early on, personally I don't care if a love interest is a virgin or not, but some people care a bit too much about that. Im on case 1 which has a very diff atmosphere right now. It feels rather sad and somber, considering the synopsis i read about case 1, I can kinda understand. I like plots like this about forbidden love or rather a fucked up love that isnt incest. Incest romance in VN's are done too much that i kinda lost care about that kind of trope. The forbidden love about case 1 is that the protagonist is a teacher, and the main love interest i guess is one of his students. Kinda standard plot right? No, the protagonist is married so its a double whammy of forbidden love.
  22. They're kinda different experiences. I don't remember flyable heart much since after i read one heroine(don't remember) and mayuri's route, i played Kimi no Nagori instantly since I didn't really care much about the other heroines aside from Mayuri. Flyable heart is your well-made average romcom but with rather magic aspects similar to how clannad uses magic. Kimi no Nagori is more grounded without any of that magic nonsense and more on how Mayuri's insane family each with their own personal issues you encounter. I just like VN's like this where you weather through hard times with the girl you love, since Kimi no Nagori keeps throwing you in hard and depressing situations but you and Mayuri are together to deal with it. I really am not sure on what for you to read first since if you read Kimi no Nagori, her entire route in flyable heart is playable anyway so you dont miss anything. In a sense it is kinda standalone. But I reallly really like Kimi no Nagori a lot better but it kinda relies on whether you like Mayuri in the first place
  23. Kimi no Nagori wa Shizuka ni Yurete I don't even remember how i came across this. But this is probably one of the best single heroine vn's i have played. The insane family and their drama along with best girl Mayuri kept me interested. I think i was playing flyable heart and got pissed on how short her route was and found out there was a separate vn just for her expanding it by like a lot.
  24. I rarely read VN's now and mostly I read charages yet again, I'm still finding those rare charages where something actively happens and it just aint pure ichaicha or low tension events. I probably read a shit ton of VN's and drop it within an hour if I my experience predicts that this novel will be a cookie cutter moege yet again or a charage where nothing reallly happens that much. Aonatsu Line I'll just copy paste what I said on the WAYR forums a while ago, "Playing Aonatsu Line. Giga games rarely surprise me but aonatsu line surprised me by just being normally good and pulling off tropes i normally see. What I really am surprised about Aonatsu Line is the male side character Chihiro, IT IS INCREDIBLY RARE AS HELL FOR ANY school life romcoms in VN to have cool and reliable male side characters that fulfill the typical best friend roles ( while also having a sprite). Its a big positive thing for me if a male side character in a school life romcom vn is not incredibly perverted, exist only to make the protag look better in comparison, and doesn't really have any redeeming qualities and is used only for laughs." Aonatsu Line looked like a pretty average moege without much plot or anything deep about the characters but it really surprised me on how high quality the writing and characterization is. Chihiro is probably one of the best obligatory male friend character I read recently as he is pretty cool in his own right and has an actual personality, not just being a laughing stock. All the characters and girls are pretty good and has decent characterization actually, betraying my first impression of it just being stereotypes with slight twists( didnt like the ojou-sama character though). I only played Kotone's route, a thorny kouhai at your first meeting but is kinda actually nice when you get to be close to her. It was one of those rare moments where there was actually tension and hostility between the cast in a game like this due to her personality. I didn't even finish her route lol, I got busy in online class and i rarely continue play games or read novels that I stalled 8.5/10 based on my experience so far, didnt drop it because its bad, dropped it because i got too lazy to continue a game i stalled. Its just my personality Kotonoha Maichiriu Natsu no Koe I like seiyuus not gonna lie, but I haven't read a VN thats focused on that topic and this is my first. They actually did it well, I enjoyed their script-readings and practices. One of the few moments in my reading that I actually laughed out loud as some of the cast was really bad at acting and mostly the protagonist. The protagonist is voiced in the acting parts and damn he always makes me laugh. This is a high quality game that I recommend if you want a light game that is happy happy compared to the rather somber tone of Aonatsu Line. I actually didnt finish this too lol but I was right before the ending, I have a hard time reading until the endings usually since if there isn't any real tension I drop it or become lazy to read. Once I passed the problem of the route I just skipped it to the ending which is is usually just a few scenes away. I only did the wheelchair girl Kaede, and damn I rarely like characters like her( I mean the personality), but she is adorable as hell. My opinion that I cannot handle reading a plot without a lot of tension drains me and I usually drop it was reinforced by my reading of this novel. I know objectively that this game is good and enjoy it while reading but I don't get the excitement of wanting to play it when I get home. Now otw to finding another vn to read
