I don't know why you think they might get pregnant; all they're doing is having sex, it's not like they're having unprotected hand holding.

It's not as if Aokana was terribly far off from being good. All the building blocks were there, they just needed to fit together a bit differently.

Really only two VNs have made me cry so far, but I'm hoping the count will get higher in the future. For now: From Grisaia: From Euphoria:

I meant more in the sense that she starts out completely useless but is able to overcome all obstacles through the power of friendship and plot devices.

I completely agree with the first half of this statement and completely disagree with the second half. Asuka's a battle shounen protagonist. (Not that I'm advocating for the archetype, merely pointing it out.)

High-school heroines getting less appealing as you get older?
GXOALMD replied to onorub's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Have you read Little Busters? For the most part, the characters in that actually feel like Highschoolers. -
Read Fate first, you'll get over it.

If you're not into time travel shenanigans then you're probably not going to like it, though I could be mistaken as I'm still pretty early in it.

I'm about three hours into both Chuusotsu 1st Graduation and Newton and the Apple Tree. Chuusotsu has unfortunately left very little impression so far other than that it serves as a reminder that your sprites shouldn't stare at the screen when your story isn't in first person. Newton and the Apple Tree on the other hand has been amazing so far. The story, the comedy, the music, the characters... all the aspects are good in their own right but just as importantly they intermesh in perfect harmony. I realize I've only scratched the surface of the novel so far, but I'd be genuinely surprised if it didn't land in my top 5 VNs. As a bonus point to Newton and the Apple Tree, this cutscene is perfection:

While this thread is active again, has there been any update on the physical kickstarter rewards? Last I heard shipment had been delayed until January and I suspect that January is no longer the plan.

I finished MLA. While it was good, it's in this sort of awkward position where it needs the context from Extra and Unlimited in order to be good but at the same time it's not good enough to justify drudging through those. From here I'm just going to keep my hopes up for Integrate, though I'll probably tackle some of the side stories at some point.

By combining my knowledge of how storytelling works with my knowledge of how spoilers work, I've most likely inferred an appropriate hint: shit goes down.

The post I read mentioned two scenes: It sounds to me like I'm not missing much, so thanks for the help. I have zero interest in h-content unless it provides some form of entertainment beyond being ero, the fact that I'd have to skip the h-scenes is the primary reason I haven't bothered with the patch.
-
I'm still working through MLA but it's been brought to my attention that some of the gore was censored out of the steam version. Does anyone know if the 18+ patch restores it, and if so is it abundant and/or graphic enough to be worth needing to wade through h-scenes?

The worst VNs I read in 2019 in no particular order were: Trick and Treat, Kokonoe Kokoro, and any installment of Grisaia Phantom Trigger (excluding volume 5.5). The VNs that fell furthest shy of my expectations (and therefore the most disappointing) in order were: World End Syndrome and Aokana. As an honorable mention, Muv Luv Extra + Unlimited also fell far shy of my expectations going in, but I gave up on those expectations before the OP in Extra so I don't find them as disappointing as the other two.
-
If we're looking just at released and/or localized in 2019 then Grisaia: Phantom Trigger volume 5.5 is the best one I read, and Aokana is the one I gave the highest score to. Wow, I guess 2019 was a bad year for releases. Though if I look at everything I finished in 2019 regardless of release year, then my top 3 in order are: Grisaia no Kajitsu, Little Busters, and Euphoria. So even though new releases failed me, it's been a good year overall.

For some reason, attaching images still isn't working for me, so sorry for the inconvenience. Anyways, from my over 200 screenshots of Aokana I somehow managed to narrow it down to the 5 best ones (excluding the ones requiring context.) And that's an hour of my life I'm not getting back. I should have started with my favorite novels instead of alphabetical order.

Warning, mini rant incoming: Fuck this tag https://vndb.org/g2086. "Drastic Character Development" is the name of the tag and it's described as "A significant character (protagonist, hero, heroine, etc.) goes through drastic changes for the better." So basically, despite it's title, this tag has nothing to do with character development. You know what really pisses me off? People who use the terms "character development" and "character growth" interchangeably as if they mean the same thing. And I'd fix the issue if I could, but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to edit tags. And while I'm complaining about things on VNDB, I may as well pin on this one as well: why is G-Senjou no Maou listed as Medium length? The lengths are supposed to be decided comparatively to other VNs if I understand correctly. So if I compare G-Senjou no Maou to the eight VNs I've read in the Long category five of them are shorter than G-Senjou no Maou and only three of them are longer. And this didn't use to piss me off so much, but a little while back someone changed it's entry to Long and the page looked so much better that way and then someone reverted it back to Medium and now whenever I look at that entry I can only think about how wrong that is. /rant

But you see, in Aokana the background characters aren't going to grow up to be harem protagonists, that's why they have faces.

It is? Guess I just wasted money buying a PC copy over the winter sale.

What are some new JVNs coming out this year?
GXOALMD replied to Happiness+'s topic in Visual Novel Talk
Ever since I gave up on reading VNs on my vita, I've been dying to get my hands on the Collar x Malice Switch port. -
It's that one thing that the first chapter of V3 does that the first two novels don't. That should probably be enough information, it's not as if there's much difference between the novels.

This is the official website, I assume you can buy it on there. https://august-soft.com/daito_ds/index.html
