  1. I personally enjoy the voices in VN's. Though translations are usually good enough such that the tone is conveyed well, the voicings really lend a lot to the comedy and emotion of each scene. Honestly, I think its an intrinsic part of the VN experience, something important to the medium that shouldn't be left out.
  2. My lady and I have our fingers crossed that the person Kirito is meeting with is
  3. Ugh. Top 10s are hard for me; so many greats get excluded no matter what the theme is. But here are mine, in no particular order: Sword Art Online Angel Beats Clannad Stein's;Gate Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse Baccano Black Lagoon Code Geass The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Zetsuen no Tempest Over 200 favs left out... *sob*
  4. I think I have to disagree on this one at a personal level, but I believe the difference lies in the definition of "romance." If we mean romance to indicate the sappy crappy novels - AKA wordporn - then sure, it is idealistic. But a mature romance by my definition is something that isn't too far-fetched in terms of context. Sure, a harem situation seems pretty crazy, but I know someone's brother who literally had two lovely young ladies who wanted to date him and he had to make a choice. Something something Da Capo II something something a certain route. I would recommend Da Capo II, especially over Da Capo I. The characters and story are a little more refined and make for a better novel. For me, a novel with good romance makes me feel guilty about playing through another character's route. Grisaia no Kajitsu is doing that to me right now. The other easy one is My Girlfriend is the President. Definitely sappy, but it does deal with a lot of the emotions and mental conflicts that come with being in a relationship.
  5. Most of the menu and setting commands are right-click and through the menu toolbar. It's a minimalist interface compared to most other novels.
  6. I seriously loved Total Eclipse. And I think I've replayed Muv-Luv in its entirety three times now? You can always go back .
  7. Based on the synopsis it must be the case; plus, The other routes are still really good, but I really liked Riho's. That one had my tears all over the place AND
  8. Concurred. Kugimiya Rie is a superior actres . But WHERE'S THE FUKUYAMA JUN LOVE???? I friggin' love that guy. Miyano Mamoru also takes my feels for Okabe Rintarou. Such good. Very act. On the English side: Crispin Freeman, Jonny Yong Bosch, Greg Ayres, these are all men......... and of course Wendee Lee. Another major favorite - and it's honestly for one role, though I hear her everywhere now - Sawashiro Miyuki, who played Inaba in Kokoro Connect. Her voice hits me hard and I love it.
  9. Overall I have to say I enjoyed the year quite a bit, myself. There were a lot of shows that I really enjoyed, and like Down says good stuff keeps airing. It's always my biggest concern going from season to season, but I always find a few shows that hook me like a fish and a few more that are pretty enjoyable.
  10. I'm honestly amazed that I functioned as even a masquerading member of society while I was reading this one. Just started playing Grisaia; and by just started, I mean it's Monday evening and I don't really remember Sunday apart from Grisaia. Still haven't even gotten to a choice and I love it.
  11. Outbreak Company, Log Horizon, Monogatari SSS, Walkure Romanze, Tokyo Ravens, Golden Time, Arpeggio of Blue Steel - Ars Nova, Kyoukai no Kanata, Nagi no Asukara, Noukome, Yuushibu... Yeah... that's it .
  12. Well, it's doubtful they'll make anything like a public apology. They don't have any rights to the anime production of their IP, and it's probably easier for them to publicly distant from the anime production as a contrast to the critically-acclaimed visual novel. Now, did I hope for something at least approaching the adaptation that Clannad was? (Or even Yosuga no Sora? Say what you will about it, but it kept the format of a VN pretty well.) Yes. Was I disappointed? Absolutely! But adaptations iz hardd, and odds are fans of the novel weren't the ones storyboarding the anime and selecting how the adaptation would proceed. (total nubs here regarding Japan's process of creating an anime.)
  13. My ideal would honestly be a mashup of Aselia the Eternal, Muv-luv Alternative, and Duel Savior. I love the RPG gameplay and characters from Aselia, the drama and themes from Muv-luv Alternative were top-notch, and the sheer raunchiness of some of the stuff in Duel Savior was off the charts, though I usually prefer a more tasteful flavor for my erotic content. To sum: A game with a diverse cast of main characters high-drama and intriguing plot tasteful, erotic content
  14. They're translating another Eushully game??? This is news I have not been able to find. I loved Kamidori.
  15. Yeah, Chu2Koi being given a second season is very very wonderful. And everything looks to good! All the Wizard Barrister trailers got my hopes up quite a bit.
  16. Q. F. T. And although I do like Log Horizon, Outbreak Company takes this season's best for me easily. That show is way too hilarious and way too wait-this-just-got-really-depressing to pass up.
  17. Such a great moment. There are tons, but I can't get this one out of my head today from Clannad After Story:
  18. A surprising one for me was in Kokoro Connect: I lost it at this scene. I watched Clannad once on my own to great distress and feels, and later I went back through it with my girlfriend-now-fiance. The result involved so many tears. To this day, there are a few anime scenes that can easily get me to cry. One is the one in the spoiler above for Clannad After Story (and most moments in that entire series, really). Another is a moment in Sword Art Online, Last episode of Angel Beats!. And not just the very end, the whole thing. The entire scene was just way too heartwrenching.
  19. I have physical copies of Aselia the Eternal, Koihime Musou, Princess Waltz, My Girlfriend is the President, 999, No Escape: Virtue's Last Reward, Deardrops (Limited), and Yumina the Ethereal. I also have softs of TickTack and Fading Hearts (mistake). Currently I'm looking forward to the Stein's;Gate limited edition (EEEEEEE!).
  20. Ooooh... that was a rough one; I had almost forgotten. That might even supplant Katawa Shoujo; that whole game was just one big feelsfest.
  21. Wow! I did not know Muv-luv Total Eclipse was so disliked! It was one of my favorite shows! It even ranks in my top ten! Sheesh. Talk about a confidence shot. Like, what'd I miss? Still, a muv-luv anime of the VN's would be flippin' superb; Rewrite takes top want for me. So much action and drama in that one just begging to be animated. The more I hear about Grisaia, the more I think that has to be my next read.
  22. Honest-to-goodness tears flowing was this one: Muv-luv Alternative: Runner-up? Hanako's ending in Katawa Shoujo.
  23. I'm a little torn on this one. While some games definitely seem to include H-scenes almost as an afterthought, others make it very apparent that sex is a natural part of the characters' relationship. I find that games tending towards the latter often include scenes of that nature more often in the game, or at least not right at the end as if they were some kind of "reward." The characters' physical relationship is explicitly portrayed as a part of their story. But then there are games like Koihime Musou. Frankly, I think the H-scenes in that game are great. It's a harem game, tried and true, but dammit if I don't think you learn a metric butt-ton (ha-ha) about the characters during those scenes. Or maybe I'm just a hopeless sap.
  24. Vocabulary is always my biggest block, personally. Syntax-wise there are always a few tricks and things that may come up, but eventually most of the common forms of speaking and writing can be gotten down pat. Vocab, though.... *shudder.* Above suggestions apply. Always increase your vocab and practice practice practice!
  25. Ahhh, Little Busters... good times... gooooood times. I just wrapped up what exists of Majikoi, and I'm contemplating either Cross Channel or Grisaia for my next read.
