Recently I've been playing Magic the Gathering with Cockatrice (free program) and I thought it would be a lot of fun to have a group of people to play with regularly. If anyone is interested in playing Magic or learning how to do it (I would be glad to teach people or there are many tutorials online), you should post here. What I imagine is that we do a few things.
1. Create decks and compete with them in mini tournaments, just like you would in normal magic (except without buying tons of cards).
2. Have deckbuilding tournaments of sorts in which you have to create a deck while following certain stipulations (such as "No cards worth more than $5 on tcgplayer," etc)
3.Have a group of people to call on for casual games whenever you feel like playing.
Now, I'm not sure how much interest there is, but I think that it's a really fun game and exercising some deckbuilding skills is something that you might not get to do even if you play Magic now, unless you do a lot of draft or cube and so on. By playing online you can easily try a bunch of expensive decks and switch around a lot. That's also something that's hard in legit mtg unless you have a huge pile of cards. So I think there's a lot of freedom that playing online grants us.
As far as the details go, I imagine that we would have a weekly or bi-monthly tournament of sorts as mentioned in point 1 and 2. Probably alternate between these, unless there's a lot of favor for one over the other. I dont really know what people would want. Another thing is that using some sort of voice chatting software (skype/ts3/mumble/etc) would be highly advised, since Cockatrice is a little minimalistic and is much more engaging when you talk to your opponent. Not really sure how this would work, but I believe it can be worked out if people are interested.
So please post here and let me know, even if you're unsure and just want to try it out. I'd be glad to personally attempt to teach people to play if they wanted to add me on skype.
