Physical copies aren't exactly commercially feasible for a niche like this, unless there's a guarantee of some sort. As far as I'm aware, Mangagamer only makes physical copies for games that have sold well, with many not getting any at all as a result. This is likely to ensure that the physical copies will sell and that they do not lose money through the game overall if they make them. I actually don't know what JAST does. Huh. They are, however, externally financed by other stuff such as J-List. And so, Frontwing finances the making of these physical copies through these kickstarters. If there's enough people willing to pay for the physical versions, then they can afford to make them without being at a loss.

Mr Poltroon replied to Nier's topic in Visual Novel Talk
I'm playing it. It's got quite a lot more going on than I actually expected it to. -
SRPG eroge Venus Blood Frontier to get an English Kickstarter

Well, JAST will not be doing the translation, so that's +1 to speed, at least. -
(8/1 update) Results of the honorifics survey
Mr Poltroon replied to HonorificsSurvey's topic in Visual Novel Talk
I was also convinced it didn't have honorifics, until I noticed it did. They're rare since almost nobody actually uses them. Yuzuyu doesn't bother with them, the guys don't use them, Tomomi prefers nicknames... They're just rare all around. -
Mangagamer Otakon 2018 Announcement
Mr Poltroon replied to littleshogun's topic in Visual Novel Talk
First of all, editing and testing are factors that can take as long or more than the translation took. Especially because these are gameplay titles, and some of them non-linear at that. And it's not just the staff that takes longer. Gameplay titles also last longer for the players, so they at least avoid releasing gameplay titles in quick succession, and Evenicle came out just a bit over a month ago. If too many were released in succession, they would theoretically eat into each other's sales. Third, Decay is correct. -
Sunrider Academy (dating sim review)

It's certainly in the cards, if they can work with Japanese closely enough to write/translate the script for Liberation Day. -
Sunrider Academy (dating sim review)
Mr Poltroon commented on Plk_Lesiak's blog entry in EVN Chronicles
"a rare attempt at expanding to the Japanese market (at least successful enough that the games’ developer, Love in Space, apparently works on making their upcoming title, JP-idol themed Shining Song Starnova, into another export product, with Japanese voice acting and other elements rarely seen in western-produced VNs). " I found this weird when I first read it, for I'd always been under the impression that Love in Space's titles were exclusive to the west. After checking it out, though, it appears Liberation Day has a Japanese version. Mask of Arcadius seems to have something in Japanese too, I think, but I don't believe any other of their products are available in Japanese, including Starnova. -
I had no idea it was common knowledge my permissions were traditionally messed up. Most concerning, this information leakage. Incidentally, my random playlist happened to start playing https://youtu.be/wuoN9MesbW0 just as I was reading the culprit's name. I would feel this is quite a coincidence if my random playlist were not packed full of ace attorney tracks.

AX - Anime Expo 2018 News & Announcements
Mr Poltroon replied to Formlose Gestalt's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Well, let's look at all the announcements, then. JAST USA Spike Chunsoft Frontwing Denpasoft Mangagamer Askys has announced no titles for the PC, and therefore no title I could play. Although... PS4 remains a reluctant possibility that I may consider tackling in the future. I will comment that I have noticed every otome protagonist seems to look the exact same somehow. I will ask Eclipsed to confirm, as I believe he has played some. @Eclipsed -

Rance 03 was the last Rance game they made before Rance X. Rance X has at least 50 characters with a prominent role, and well over 200 named and established characters that appear and are part of the story (there are 9 games in the series after all). Whilst they could have perhaps meddled in some sort of partial voice acting for it, they probably decided to not try for voices again due to the sheer scale of it. Tradition might have also played a role, with practically all other titles having no voices, and people who only played the most recent games not counting remakes would be used to the lack of voices. Edit: That is to say, if they were working on a Rance with a smaller scale after 03, perhaps they would have chosen to voice it. -

Rance is not voiced at all. The only Rance that has voices is Rance 03 (remake of Rance III), which is not currently in the pipeline for localisation, as far as we know. -

Yes, the argument being that even if the script were 10 times the size of the original, it would still seems small compared to Rance X. -

One guess, guess who. (The translator for every other officially announced Alicesoft game bar Rance Quest probably) -

Evenicle Release by Mangagamer (on June 28th)
Mr Poltroon replied to littleshogun's topic in Visual Novel Talk
If this happens again, stop moving, and speech bubbles will pop up. Typically, one or more will tell you where to go or what to do. This includes Aster mentioning any sidequests you might have stumbled upon. I also recommend you don't overthink it if you get stuck. I've backtracked a lot because I thought I needed to do something in another area once I hit what seemed like a dead end. Generally speaking, the solution to a problem in an area is also in that area. -
Happy Birthday, @Jun Inoue. To celebrate it, I'll start VA-11 Hall-A. Just for you.

Oh me, oh my, look whose birthday it is.
