Clannad? Overrated or Worthy of it's honours?
Mr Poltroon replied to Thatcomicguy's topic in Visual Novel Talk
...Maybe? Have you played anything else by Key? Do you enjoy their long common routes? CLANNAD is a bit long and slow paced for a lot of people. The anime streamlines things and gives you what's important. Many people prefer it. The only reasons to play the game seem to be the comedy and fleshing out of certain character's stories, by my experience, as well as the MC's extra monologue that being a VN brings. None of it really necessary. I'd also add that the anime executes interaction between characters better than the VN, making them seem more lively and an organic group of friends as opposed to individuals who occasionally mingle. -

Is @Darklord Rooke's despicableness also a feature? Who am I kidding, you're the ones who added "Darklord" of course it's a feature. -
You know, at some point I convinced myself that it was in fact her second given name. That's a thing in a lot of European countries, to the point where I know a few male Mary's myself. Not that they go out of their way to be called by that name, but a few people do, such as my mother, except her second given name happens to actually be female.

I absolutely prefer a comedic tone. Surely there's nothing you can't tackle without a hint of good humour? Wait, no, you'd probably get booed down for writing something "distasteful" or "disrespectful". If I were to state my preferences, I generally prefer something entirely comedic, though bursts of serious themes are not unwelcome when being serious seems to be the best way of tackling the issues.

Mr. Poltroon's Lack of Vocabulary #5

I'll let you in on a little secret. These posts are set to publish automatically, and so I actually forget about them often. NÂș2 just came out today and I was surprised to see it. Had completely forgotten about it. bog -- as in toilet jackanapes abetting grass -- as in, informing the police waiver gizzard tawdry besotted lattice despite - as in, spite 19/03/2017 - 02/04/2017 -

Worth going back and playing Da Capo 1 & 2?
Mr Poltroon replied to voidpointer's topic in Visual Novel Talk
All I have revealed are things you learn in Da Capo I, and that therefore will not ruin your experience in 2, though they may alter it. It is entirely possible to play, and comprehend, 2 without 1. There's some stuff in 2 that plays with preconceptions 1 formed, but even without those it works just fine. -

Uh, with a lot of shoddy memory and nonsensical plotpoints I never understood, the relevant bits from Da Capo I are as follows: -
Has this ever happened to you when playing a VN?
Mr Poltroon replied to VaroOP's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Absolutely. So I was reading a VN the other day, and this girl went and talked to the protagonist! Can you believe that? Broke my imersion right there, such a thing would never happen to me. -

I'm worried I'll forget about this list someday, or not have enough entries. No more 20 names per entry, that was ridiculous. honker -- as in a nose be on the fritz soup -- the verb gobbledegook offal gristle sequin credenza merkin truncheon From 19/03/2017 until 19/03/2017 -
You're right, my apologies. I could not simply pass up the opportunity to throw the jab in there. You have my apologies for my terrible personality. Not that those are particularly useful to you, I imagine. For what it's worth, I miss the politics discussions I couldn't comprehend or follow.

Fuwa VN Reading Club: April - Deardrops
Mr Poltroon replied to Fred the Barber's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Here I am, partaking in an inverse lottery. I can take just about anything here, but if I have to read KiraâKira again... Well, I don't have to. I can just skim through it an partake in discussion. That'll surely encourage more discussion and everyone will be happy and everyone will forgive me, no? -
Mr. Poltroon's Lack of Vocabulary #3

Let's get a bit into the exact rules for the words on this list. One of two things must be true: Either it's the first time I hear a certain word, or that word has more meanings than I knew it had. Simply not remembering a word's meaning, which happens quite often, is not enough to get on this list. What could happen is that I forget I had ever heard a given word before, and in which case it gets onto the list just fine. sultry suss nugatory crick chiropractor abattoir perennial rum -- as in odd. apostate stiff -- as in, a dead body From 14/03/2017 to 19/03/2017 -
Blast these bleeding chavs, striking right where it hurts. Yeah, sure, you're right. I was thinking it was kind of like School Days, having both visuals and text, but that kind of applies to just about most things. The difference here is that you're first person and can move the camera about. I think a mix of this and choices, or even without choices, can make for some very interesting short stories. It's therefore new to me, as I'd never even though of coupling this technology with all my favourite Chinese cartoons.

I absolutely believe this is a very interesting experiment, and it adds and interesting element of "interaction" to the traditional Visual Novel format. Imagine the short stories that could be told where you were not only in control of the actions, choices, but also the camera? It could also go and diverge wildly, but I think it's really fascinating.

Hmm... Don't think about routes or walkthroughs for now. Play the game through once, experiment a bit, play through a couple more times. Then you can start thinking about routes. And don't you fret! There's a snowball's chance in hell that you'll stumble upon the true route on any of these initial playthroughs.

Poetry Day 2017
Mr Poltroon commented on Mr Poltroon's blog entry in Mr Poltroon's Random Codswallop
Huh, even not understanding the language it sounds fairly beautiful to the ear. (I mean, as much as a northern language that mostly sounds like somebody's trying to clear their throat can. No offence, of course ) I don't think I can read 'beautifully' in English, but I'm pretty sure I can in Portuguese. -

Happy Birthday to one @InvertMouse and one @astro. Divide it amongst yourselves, go on. Edited @BookwormOtaku in, so now there's three of you. I'm sure you're all grown men who know how to share.

I couldn't simply allow this day to pass without trying to do something. Here's a poem I think I may have tried before, I'm unsure, in all it's incomprehensible glory. But worry not, there's a second poetry reading, a bit more normal this time.
