  3. The engine may not like Finnish characters. As it is a lot of them have problems with plain English text, since they were originally designed for Japanese only. You can try to ask the developer directly with support for VNR, contact him with a more detailed info of your problem and configuration.
  4. In the executable the font size is controlled by two bytes, one at 858e and the other at 8590. The default is 14h (20). You will need to change both of them.

  6. Since the original translation project stalled, the work on finding how to change the font size, wordwrapping, etc. was stopped too (we wanted to wait until the translation was done, in order to decide the final font size.) If you want, say so and we'll try to resume that work.

  11. This is important too. If they preserve separation of each line, then it shouldn't be too hard to do most if not all of this automatically via machine translation: they might not be accurate in translation, but here it's similarity we're after. All we need is for e.g. "He sat under an apple tree" to turn into something like what it would be in Japanese and vice-versa, and be different enough from what "I ate a doughnut" turns into. MT each original line and each translated line, compare with all translated/original lines respectively, choose the closest match for each one. If your translation is just a paragraph aggregate, then you'll need to do some more preprocessing to split things up.
  12. The engine has to be able to read the scripts, so it must know how to decrypt. Post or PM a link to the executable and one of the small files, we can take a look if we have time.
  13. If the file hashes differ then you have a corrupted download and should try again.
  14. Text insertion difficulty varies with the engine. The more common ones have tools available, but there can be many variants on one basic engine and there are also numerous one-offs that require a custom solution. While text hooking and extraction has some universal tools, there is currently no universal solution for insertion. It's debatable whether the majority VNs that currently get translated are because they use common engines with tools available, or the other way around.

  16. Please compare the SHA1 hashes of your files with those published in the verification information. This error very likely means that your download was corrupted.
  17. Aaeru is not alone in creating controversy. That said, traffic increases are good when they drive visitors to the site, as you have the possibility of gaining new users. Just be sure your infrastructure can handle it.
  18. It would be helpful to say what times you're getting these errors. Check the Apache log around those times, there may be more (private) information there about what caused it.

  20. The more compatible the better... you don't need HTML5 to do this sort of thing. MS had a DHTML demo with IE4 back in the 90s that already had a lot of the features necessary to make an in-browser VN. Displaying mostly static images and text, and playing some audio, has been within browser capabilities for over a decade.
  21. The other issue is that you are assuming there is one and only one possible way to translate something, and that that is the one version the consumer must take. If MG does decide to translate it, it will very likely be different from the translation by Aaeru, even ignoring simple changes such as EN-UK vs EN-US spelling. There's also the literal vs non-literal/localisation debate but let's not open another can of worms here. This gives the consumer choice, which is important.
