  1. The div.bbc_spoiler selector is empty. It looks like this div.bbc_spoiler { width: 100%; } should work. (Someone with the right privileges needs to edit the right CSS files; meanwhile if you know how to use userstyles you can fix it in your browser with that.)
  2. Also thanks to Tay for "keeping the lights on" in the meantime. Hope all gets sorted out eventually.
  3. This is not 4chan. Please use the quote function.
  4. Please keep your comments civil.
  5. The previous release is here... there's a preview of the first 1K lines or so so you can judge for yourself: Aaeru is probably not translating this one.
  6. If true, then that would be cause for celebration and not despair. Aaeru has made significant progress in spreading the word about VNs, and this is just one of the small growing pains part of that process. Getting that attention from the opposition means success, not failure. Thus this is a recognition of the first major step, and a signal to prepare for what lies ahead. Look towards the future and congratulate yourself! Well done, Aaeru.
  7. Taking a look at how the Chinese do it might be of interest to you, since that's where the Japanese took kanji from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_character_classification I don't know Japanese, but having had a great deal of exposure to Chinese the past few years, even without attempting to learn it you start seeing particular characters often and begin to recognise them. E.g. 电子, 深圳 (copy-paste since I have no idea how to write them, either on the computer or manually.) This is different from being able to write the characters, but I'm saying that if you want to memorise then there's no substitute for exposure to lots and lots of Japanese.
  8. Aaeru do you know Chinese? Simplified or traditional?
  9. I saw this more as a repository/archive, not an active content host.
  10. Good luck matching up the timezones... remember Fuwanovel is an international site.
  11. The issue is probably with the older VNs. Things like UAC and other "security features" also get in the way of patches.
  12. Imagemagick could be used to do the mask/combine. According to that link, Crass (appropriate name...) source code is available, perhaps it could be modified to output PNG? RGBA BMP is also a defined (but rarely used) format.
  13. That's exactly the "direct to PNG" process mentioned above. Much better than discarding the alpha channel and trying to recreate it later.
  14. There's an old saying along the lines of "sometimes you don't have to make the elephant dance well, you just have to make it dance." In some ways Fuwanovel is about getting an elephant to fly... even if not very well
  15. The important thing about Shanzhai is that it works because it isn't only copying, but copying and innovating. Here's another good read about it. One of our goals as a localisation technology provider is to streamline the process from text extraction to patch creation, but we still need translators to do the bulk of the work. The bottleneck to getting more translations out isn't "hacking", it's finding enough people to translate all those VNs. Encourage the consumers to get into learning Japanese and doing their own translation, to give back into the ecosystem (as you mentioned about the gift economy). Make it easy (and fun) for them to do that, not "shoot them down before they can fly" unlike what the "old culture" was doing, and translators will increase.
  16. Shanzhai's "open BOM" concept but for VNs? Could be interesting... Should be encouraging people to upload their own creations there too? Here's a bit of info you might want to pass onto them: The edge effects are not a bug; they're deliberately there in order to make the image compressor more effective by giving a "lead-in" to the actual data. If you're visually seeing them appear in your images it means your extraction process is dropping the alpha channel. If your extractor is outputting transparent PNG directly there should be no issues since the lead-ins are 100% transparent. This will streamline the process and create smaller filesizes, making better use of your bandwidth. We may be able to work with you to implement this; contact us for more information.
  17. Why corrupted files may result in 'Program too big to fit in memory' error.
  18. Are fan translations also a part of this too? Do you want Fuwanovel to eventually produce/host its own translation projects, or just provide resources to get people into doing it? (Their page on Shanzhai is also a good read.)
  19. This. Your blog readers are presumably there to primarily read what you post. If you're hosting it yourself then you have a lot more options with what you can do.
  20. For some reason it reminded me of the Hadoop elephant. I've also proposed the Kangaaeru before...
  21. I think those are totals. Of course those stats are not including everyone who blocks GA, so your actual visits are probably somewhat higher. If you can access your server logs those will be the real numbers.
  22. I was going to ask if we had sufficient bandwidth for this, but looks like the issue surfaced already... you should cache the downloaded information whenever possible.
  23. Aaeru, you don't need to worry about the patch creation, we've discussed it before with Jichi and it should be straightforward to get an export. When we have some time we can find out exactly how many lines there are. As for the haters... just ignore them and keep this in mind: I don't think they'll want to come to this forum but if they do they're going to encounter a lot of resistance. We support you too. Persevere!
  24. Let us know if/when you want to make a patch release. Good luck!
  25. A good topic to look into if you're interested, is the origins of this line of thought and how it propagated. Was it the "old VN translation culture" groups who started it to keep their hold on the "market", or something else? If this is one of the things Fuwanovel wants to get away from, knowing how these sorts of restraining thoughts begin might lead to a better understanding of how to prevent them from growing here.
