On the other hand, the only reason Duel Savior was halfway decent was due to the protagonist's excellent voice acting (in the ps2 re-release, always use that voice option when installing the translation patch). Without it, that game would have nothing.

Can anyone who is familiar with the re-releases explain the changes that have been made, in as non-spoilery of a way as possible? The version of Tomoyo After that was fan translated was the original. The translation was extremely bad, and versions of the VN released later apparently had an extended story that changed major plot points. So perhaps the misgivings some people have with Tomoyo After could be resolved with a retranslation based on the newest version?

I wouldn't be surprised if this is JAST's doing. You just know that Sonicomi is going to be one of their best selling releases.

Sharin no Kuni was extremely popular several years ago, but recently you barely ever see anyone talk about it, I guess it's not too surprising if someone could participate in the modern VN community for awhile without ever really hearing about it.

Pretty much everyone involved with that translation has said they don't think they did a good job, moogy and the n00b avenger included. The translator even told frontwing they shouldn't use the translation because it wasn't good enough. But now Moogy is saying on irc that it's a revised version of the fan translation. He isn't involved, this one is all FW.

As a little followup to this, the game's translator posted on VNDB just recently that he was initially contacted a while back about this, told them that his fan translation wasn't good enough and shouldn't be used, then seemingly never heard from them again. So it seems unlikely that they're going to be using it. FW wanting to cover the localization costs ahead of time might be the reason for the kickstarter.

I sure as hell wouldn't. I don't have enough time to read every new release as it is. Why would I need even more, faster? And if I could read them all in time, there's always a life outside of eroge/VNs. I don't want a life full of mediocre experiences. Give me quality over quantity literally every single time, please.

Because this VN already has a positive reputation and that better reputation could lead to better sales. Also, because ABS2 really wants G-Senjou and SnK released before releasing anything of theirs that's newer, for whatever reason.

Which, in retrospect, this probably played a part in FW dropping SP, because SP openly supported koestl's team in their desire to release an alternative translation.

Maybe they're using the fan TL, I wouldn't be surprised, but herkz tends to run his mouth off and makes these kinds of proclamations with only tiny snippets of information. It seems Frontwing is already set on combating rumors. Of course, they offer no information in return. It's a crapshoot.

You can almost guarantee that an 18+ release won't happen, and that Japanese companies actually don't give a shit if only all-ages versions of their titles are released in the west. In sharin no kuni's case, the h-scenes are so completely superfluous that the VN is most probably better without them.

Because it's about on par with an Ixrec translation.

Sharin no Kuni getting an official release was a bit of an open secret, pretty much everyone knew about it to some extent. But everyone expected the one to bring it to us to be Sekai Project. Frontwing is planning a kickstarter, it seems. Much to some people's befuddlement. Maybe they'll actually bother retranslating it? Moogy, the old translation's editor, was saying that it needed one before getting officially released, so who knows, maybe that's why they need kickstarter money.

Which is ridiculous, because this game is actually quite great. The VN community is so utterly enamored with the elite set of action chuuni titles that get hyped to hell and back that any title in the same genre that isn't part of that group just gets ignored completely, especially if it's all-ages. The age rating is completely irrelevant to this title, though. It doesn't feel like it lacks maturity in any way, nor does it feel like it ever glosses over any important events. Everything just works, nothing is lacking. Oh well, this is how the VN fanbase has always been. I've been expecting this the whole time, while really hoping I was wrong.

The default one, Ariel Black. Seems to be good enough. Since this is a game without a textbox or any sort of background for the text, I feel like the simpler and bolder the font, the better.

I thought the whole issue sprung up because a 12 year old french girl actually liked their facebook page or something along those lines, and they decided to make a story out of it.
