  1. If you don't want to explain the crux of your argument, then I don't know why anyone should take it seriously.

    Hearthstone

Disagree on both points. The glowing makes the card more accessible and that's not a bad thing. Hearthstone's entire design philosophy is based around accessibility, and that accessibility is why it has become so successful. It's also just more consistent, other conditional effects do that when the condition is met, so why not Reno? Some people get confused on when "dumbing down" a game is a bad thing, or when it's actually a good thing. Take XCOM, for example. One of my biggest complaints about Enemy Unknown was the lack of a line of sight indicator when planning out your moves. I wanted to be able to know in advance if a move would allow an enemy to see me or not, or if I'd be able to shoot at them from my destination. The community opinion was pretty unanimously against me, that it would dumb down the game. Lo-and-behold, Firaxis did just this for XCOM 2, and now the opinion is completely flipped, these same people love the new line of sight indicator they put in the game. Did they dumb it down? Yes, players no longer have to know the exact sight ranges for the enemy and have to count out tiles, they no longer have to predict whether or not they'll be able to see the enemy from any given location, the game does it for them. But as it turns out, those bits of "gameplay" simply weren't fun. It's not fun having to count out sight ranges, and random pieces of level geometry getting unexpectedly in the way of your shots was way too frustrating. "Dumbing down" frustrating or tedious gameplay elements that don't contribute to the primary gameplay goals isn't a thing developers should be afraid to do. So going back to hearthstone, is having to keep track of every card in your deck and how many of each 2-of you've drawn fun? No, it's just mindless busywork. It's actually so tedious that no one ever bothers to manually do it, so they just use Hearthstone Deck Tracker instead. Is having that form of tedious gameplay that's so unfun that many players choose to bypass it entirely good for the game? I'd argue it's not. Is being able to keep track of these things actually a skill? Only kind of, if you had to do it mentally it would be but you could also just use pen and paper or a notepad software to do it if you want to do it manually, so that's not even really an element of skill. Like I said, tedious busywork. And suppose you were forced to do it mentally, is that really the kind of skill you want to dictate hearthstone matches? I wouldn't want that. I'd rather win against a player because I outplayed them from a tactical and strategic standpoint, not because they forgot they have a second Death's Bite in the deck. Eliminating it is good for the game. As for the C'thun stuff, I think it's acceptable. Blizzard kind of is making the C'thun deck obvious and linear. But I also don't think it's going to be a truly competitive deck. It will be a fun and solid newbie deck. All players are getting C'thun for free, and the core c'thun synergy cards seem to be commons and rares. New players will be able to get a solid C'thun deck running within a week. It looks like they will be simple decks that will be fairly easy to play and a good way for newbies to learn the game, and will be solid on the lower ladder ranks. And eventually they'll level up into "real" decks. I don't mind this at all. The class that could have the least linear C'thun gameplay is possibly rogue, because nothing is ever simple with rogue. I look forward to see if a C'thun deck is viable with them, and if it would be more interesting to play than the rest.
  3. Which is why I'm asking why you think he deserves a ban. What specific actions did he do to deserve it? Your entire argument of mod favoritism hinges on him deserving to be banned, but I'd like to know why that is the case.
  4. I really don't understand why Ren should have been banned. The number of banned users in Fuwanovel's history is actually very low, you have to do some really bad stuff or be extremely disruptive to the forums as a whole in order to get banned. What has Ren done? He has made a few troll posts here and there, and... ?
  5. I thought that's what littleshogun's post was but sometimes it's impossible to decipher his engrish. He also said he edited his post to remove "offensive" material, so... None of this has any relevance anyways. Here's the deal: Is ren making this up? Did he really lose the scripts? It doesn't matter. Nothing about the current situation changes at all. Do the mods play favorites? Yeah, a little, but there's nothing to even apply favoritism to here so I don't even know why this is being brought up. Actually, I don't know why you're so mad at literally everyone here. Why are the mods suddenly a target?
  6. Except, it just happened and they got a warning? edit: lmao, dude, you have no fucking idea. Gonna be honest, a large portion of the mod staff actually finds him kind of annoying.
  7. So the information that's coming out about this seems to be that they want it to be more "cinematic." They're basically eliminating the narration/reducing the level of prose and making the entire thing playable on voices alone.
  8. Yuri is generally written by men for men, yes. I believe Kindred Spirits to have some degree of cross-gender appeal, though. So much of yuri is either a) "LOOK AT HOW CUTE THESE GIRLS ARE, AREN'T THEY SO GOSH DARNED ADORABLE??" as they blush heavily and act sheepish around each other followed by gratuitous sex or kissing (sakura trick, sonohana), b) "Oh no, onee-sama, we mustn't!" *blush* followed by them "growing out of it" and getting men after graduation (a lot of yuri side-stories in standard bishoujo titles), or c) "Implications" without actual romance (Aoishiro, madoka magica). Meanwhile, Kindred Spirits is just about love, never really delivering on any of the above. I am really inexperienced with yuri as a whole, though, so I wouldn't be surprised if there's plenty of stuff like Kindred Spirits I don't yet know about. edit: There's a bit of a fujoshi character in Kindred Spirits, and there's a sudden bizarre bout of dissonance in one scene when she describes what yuri really is supposed to be about and what makes it great, and you realize that almost nothing she's describing applies to the VN you're reading.
  9. You can just write it here, we really don't need two threads.
  10. I do wonder what the huge yuri freaks of the world think of Kindred Spirits, because it's very peculiar and not traditional yuri, eschewing a lot of the genre tropes. I tried to get across in the review that it was yuri that anyone can enjoy, even if you normally have a distaste for the genre. I do, and I loved it. So give it a shot even if you aren't a big yuri fan.
  11. Read the review here. I liked Kindred Spirits a lot. It's a pretty simple story but sometimes that's exactly what you need. I've seen barely any discussion on it here. Anyone play it yet? What did you think of it?
  12. The first fate/extra officially released in the west, I don't know why they decided to stop there. I don't know why you think fate fans haven't read fate and wouldn't read more. Seems kinda weird.
  13. I mean, you could just play Majikoi and then only do the side routes. Otherwise yeah, this doesn't really make sense. The side characters become main characters and vise-versa.
  14. Be well, Ren.
  15. The routes are indeed long, usually around 6-8 hours to read for an average reader, probably closer to 8.
  16. Incidentally, chapter 9 was my least favorite chapter in the game.
  17. Yeah, you're very close to the end of the common route. But.... it's not like the character routes jump head-first into drama. The first half of each is generally pretty slice-of-lifey still.
  18. Yeah, sorry, but that's really unlikely.
  19. I would say that Cartagra isn't innocent grey's best mystery title. The mystery aspects of it were really poorly done. Kara no Shoujo handled the mystery side of things better, and KnS2 did it MUCH better. If you liked Cartagra for the mystery, give those two a shot for sure.
  20. Well, Steins;Gate is my favorite VN, so if you want "the best of the best" that's not a bad place to start. It has romance as well. Mystery is a genre that's lacking in general in VNs. The Kara no Shoujo series is good, but not exactly spectacular. I really enjoyed the Umineko series a whole lot, but it can be a little rough around the edges from a presentation standpoint (low res, bad art, shitty engine). If you're willing to forgive those presentation flaws, it's a great mystery VN, and there are patches that improve the art (https://vndb.org/r36638). Danganronpa is a comedy/mystery/thriller that's pretty great, and has a solid PC port via Steam. For romance, many people here, me included, love Grisaia no Kajitsu/The Fruit of Grisaia. It actually blends a few genres together and is a highly unusual kind of romance, but it's still romance. It is definitely among the best of the best. For something more pure romance, hmm, I tend not to rate those very highly so I may not be the best judge. Key's titles are super popular and my favorite is Little Busters, although it's ostensibly more about friendship than romance. One thing most branching romance VNs contain are lengthy common routes without much actual romance and lots of comedy. If you want something that sort of gets right to the point instead, there's ef, which is really good. edit: I realize I just gave you a whole bunch of options instead of just saying "here's the best!" so I'll get reductive: Pure, grounded romance: ef -a fairy tale of the two Comedy/Romance/Hijinks/Over-the-top insane drama - Grisaia Sci-Fi - Can't go wrong with Steins;Gate Mystery - Just go with DanganRonpa, it's easy to get into and is still rather great. If you just want the community consensus on what's good, just go with VNDB, our recommendations here rarely deviate from it. https://vndb.org/v/all?q=;fil=tagspoil-0;rfil=released-1.type-complete.lang-en;o=d;s=rating In before Clephas comes and suggests a lot of Japanese-only titles you can't read.
  21. Da Capo 2.
  22. The Steam page is up and confirms April 18: http://store.steampowered.com/app/413420
  23. The answer more or less is no. If you don't actually have any real programming/game hacking skills or translation skills, then starting a project isn't going to get you anywhere. There aren't any truly successful projects run by people who don't have any real skills of their own. Because what are you really offering that people can't do on their own? If it's a common engine, anyone can get script extraction tools.
