Anime Boston and Sakura-Con Speculation and Announcements thread
Decay replied to Decay's topic in Visual Novel Talk
I haven't seen any real indication that Shinku is going to work with SP. In fact, the way they launched a new site with a new domain tells me that they're staying independent for a while, and everything they have said in their updates indicate that they still wish to release patches. Regarding Navel partnering with SP, that would be interesting, but I really would have to wonder about the business deals behind that decision. I would expect MangaGamer to be okay with Tsuriotsu, so why jump fences? And Akagoei, well, maybe. But I'm a little skeptical. -
Anime Boston and Sakura-Con Speculation and Announcements thread
Decay replied to Decay's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Key doesn't "license" their titles out anymore. They didn't license out Little Busters, they hired Fruitbat Factory to finish the translation and will distribute it themselves. MangaGamer wouldn't ever sign such a deal, there's not enough in it for them. Like I said, I suspect it *might* be MangaGamer. Whoever it is, that's funding CSG now, If they're halfway competent, they will provide TLCers and editors, or some kind of oversight to make sure there's some guaranteed level of quality. If it's MG, they'll definitely ensure that it's not a shit product and I would want it to succeed. -
Anime Boston and Sakura-Con Speculation and Announcements thread

No matter what happens, it seems b2g/Japan Content is still in control. I suspect that whoever is providing their outside funding will only do so after b2g successfully completes a Kickstarter for it, presumably with a much lower goal. -
On March 25th, both Anime Boston and Sakura-Con are kicking off in Boston and Seattle respectively, and MangaGamer and Sekai Project will be at both! Both companies have teased announcements. Anime Boston's site doesn't give a full panel schedule, but as far as I can tell MangaGamer is holding a panel only at Anime Boston, and Sekai Project is holding a panels only at both AB and SC. MangaGamer MangaGamer's panel will be held at March 25th, 10PM EDT in Hynes panel room C, that's 25.5 hours from the time of this post going live. They are teasing three announcements on their site. You can see their 2016 licensing survey results article for some hints about what we will see. Some are pretty specific, some are really vague, there's no indication of what will be announced when. The one thing we know is that in the past, MG has indicated when a new partner was involved, and there's no such indication here so we can assume that all three announcements are for existing partners. My predictions? MangaGamer has teased sequels and "continuations," so it's probably time for either Imouto Paradise 2 or maybe Otoboku 2 if you want to get a little crazy. We may also see the next Alicesoft project announced, but I think it might be a bit too soon for that. And here's an oddball prediction: Maybe ChuSinGura? You see, that announcement page used to list just two announcements. Then at right about the same time the ill-fated ChuSinGura Kickstarter campaign canceled with the claim of outside funding, MangaGamer mysteriously added a third announcement slot without telling anybody. I'll admit that the odds of this being pure coincidence are really high, but it's fun to speculate! Sekai Project SP is now promising FIVE new game announcements this weekend! Their Sakura-Con panel is at March 25th, 7PM PDT in room 4C-3 (25.5 hours as now, same time as MG's panel), and their Anime Boston panel is at March 26th, 11:30AM EDT (39 hours from now). There are no real hints on what these announcements might be. SP these days are publishing a real mish-mash of game types, so there may be multiple non-VNs announced. I suspect one of the announcements will finally be Sharin no Kuni, which according to TLWiki boss and translator Moogy was in the plans after G-Senjou no Maou, and involved a large amount of retranslation/editing. So what are your predictions? What are you guys hoping for?

No, it still uses the NNL fan translation as a base, just edited quite a bit.

Noone cares? I see... (Navel & MG - Divorce, or starting over again?)
Decay replied to XReaper's topic in Visual Novel Talk
rip any chances of tsuritosu and oretsuba. Shuffle wasn't very good, I just couldn't come to like it despite my best efforts. My main problem with it was actually the pacing. The comedic pacing was just awful. They had some good gags, but they never gave them the time to breathe they needed. It seemed almost like a VN with ADHD, just constantly having to move on to the next thing without finishing the last. It was as if the last five to ten lines of every scene was just missing. And that's just the common route. The heroine routes weren't anything to write home about, either. -
He doesn't use that language at all in the MangaGamer version, from what I can remember. They edited the translation quite a bit. Supposedly NNL also removed some lines entirely from the fan TL that were restored in the MG version. NNL liked making large creative changes to the games they were translating, in their words they removed like a quarter of Wind's lines when they translated that, supposedly to cut down on redundancy. Lo-and-behold, the finished product had shit pacing. MG version of ef is true to the original.

Meet Tay, Microsoft's experimental chat bot with learning AI.
Decay replied to Decay's topic in General Discussion
I think this proves definitively that the Fuwanovel servers are the central pillar of SkyNet. But there's a plot twist! The naysayers were right all along, Tay is a traitor. -
They're both in the same VN entry on VNDB. Think of it like a higurashi or umineko sort of situation, where they are two chapters in the same story, and thus are identified as a single VN where its constituent parts were sold separately. The version you want is definitely MangaGamer's version. They sell the two separately and unfortunately it's pretty expensive.

Majikoi A Translation Project Discussion
Decay replied to twdarkeh's topic in Fan Translation Discussion
She looks like she's about to either kill you, or herself. edit: Or she just pulled the caper of the century and is about to leap off the building in a daring escape. -
School Days didn't invent the love triangle, lol. The first chapter is the only love triangle. This isn't the last you'll see of the losing heroine, though.

Wow. You're a cruel man, Deep Blue.

30-40 hours is pretty damn long. And no comedy? Uhh. Any VN that is that long is going to have its share of drama and comedy. I actually don't know if there are any VNs at all that meet all of your criteria. Kindred Spirits on the Roof is reasonably heartwarming and isn't really moe. See my review here: http://reviews.fuwanovel.net/2016/03/16/kindred-spirits-on-the-roof/

I played a bit of the demo until they got out of the school from the introductory segment, and a bit after that. It seems pretty good! Apparently the demo is quite large, encompassing a quarter of the game, including the common route and like half of a character route? Yeah, I'm not going to read all of that weeks before I'll be able to read the rest. It may give some of you a good chunk of the game to enjoy in the meantime, though. And to give you a solid head start if you plan on reading it day 1. I plan on reading root double first, though. Things I liked about the parts I have played: Very high CG density. Lots of unique art for all of the action sequences. I'm guessing they front-loaded the CGs but still, it was pretty impressive. The CG gallery I glimpsed through to select this week's VNTS header image had something like 530 images, including minor variations. That's a super large amount for a non-h-game! (edit: to put this into perspective a bit, Tokyo Babel has about three times the art density that Comyu has, outside of its h-scenes.) Even outside of the CGs, they do cool things with the sprites, making it feel a bit more dynamic than most VNs. You're rarely just looking at a lineup of boring sprites for extended periods of time like most VNs. I liked Sorami a whole lot. VNDB marks Setsuna as the protagonist who seems really boring, but I really enjoyed the Sorami POV scenes so I hope there's lots of those. Or if not, I hope Setsuna loosens up at some point.

You should come back to this today. I get that you hate spoilers, but you're making incorrect assumptions based on vague information here. Don't you think it's a shame to stop reading something you were enjoying because of that? You'll continue to enjoy it, and you will not anticipate the actual plot twists, I swear.

I don't know the answer to any questions relating to specific translation, but I do believe that the Japanese script contained a lot of jokes about foreign politics, history, etc. From Spartans to the CIA. I wouldn't be surprised if the Gestapo joke was in the original, if only because it's not one I can imagine Koestl writing. edit: Why don't you try asking koestl's ask.fm? https://ask.fm/koestl

My thoughts are mixed, because on one hand Hogan is a racist, sexist, homophobic, wife-beating scumbag. On the other hand, Gawker is among the vilest online publications out there. They are so atrociously bad. They routinely just make up shit to publish as fact, and have absolutely no sense of ethics whatsoever. This does impact Kotaku, which is a little unfortunate. The site definitely has its issues, but I think they do some really good reporting as well. One thing to note is that this decision WILL get appealed, and the appellate court, while I doubt they'll reverse the decision, they will almost certainly reduce the level of damages. Because this is an extreme amount of damages, especially when you consider that the jurors want punitive damages on top of the $115m.

Another weird bug to to yell at the ipb devs about: But he never posted there! So as far as I can tell, Greenshadow622 posted at nearly the exact same time as bigfatround posted in the moderation criticism thread, and the forum software somehow mixed the two up?
