Basically there are nation-wide exams with high-level questions(easily twice as much content as you would generally have in your standard/grade), and the higher your rank the better university you can get into.

In chemistry, currently the thing torturing me is Organic Chemistry and all it's exceptions. I mean there are as many exceptions as there are trends, The hell am I supposed to learn all those.

there are actually not that many exceptions, the exceptions mostly boil down to certain groups preventing reactions.

For example a fiedel craft reactions do not work with strongly deactivited aromatics like nitro benzene and pyridine.

The reson for this is because both draw electrons out of the ring which prevent the ring from attacking.

Yeah but still it slowly piles on and becomes a lot.

Like now we are doing Isomerism, so there are exceptions and special cases for each type of isomerism. In the questions you need to apply the trend and select the answer or if it's a expection then use that instead. If you don't remember the exceptions then you lose quite a bit of marks.
