Which Visual Novels Would You Like To See Get Translated?
Ayana replied to Kimanor's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Although I know it'll probably never happen because of the content material... and it'd be something akin to a world miracle of grand proportions when all's said and done, but... I'd really like to see this become officially translated. It's a masterpiece. -
Woah, awesome! ^^ I don't think I've gotten a FC on a single AR9 map, let alone any AR8 maps as well... but of course one should never let that get them down because you just keep playing, for fun and not in utter seriousness. Whatever happens next is quite unknown as that should just come along the way of having fun... and it could very well mean a sudden amazing performance. This is the stance I currently take on any game, not just Osu! Congrats! Well, I think I've found my new favorite song and map on Osu! as of yet:

I'm reading Oretsuba right now and it's really... ugh let's just say it takes a lot of patience to wade through because of how "colorful" it is (it has a crapload of "varieties" to it). -.- Literally the only thing helping me read this is the fact that I watched the anime (which is half-good half-bad) and know maybe 1/3 (or possibly less) of the whole VN enough to determine what's being documented in this "colorful" style of japanese. Really, reading japanese or any different language at novice/amateurish levels for that matter is not so much "difficult" as it's just a smaller payoff for putting in more time. One could easily perceive their feelings of laziness in accordance to the payoff they receive as "difficulty" and then think the activity an impossible obstacle to overcome when it's actually not. Please don't be like me and let yourselves get discouraged by this illusion of difficulty that is in reading these famous high-end untranslated VNs (Muramasa, Dies Irae, Asairo, Ruitomo, Oretsuba, Subahibi, etc.). xD They are "uniquely written" in comparison to average fare, and not "difficultly written". Although I guess feelings don't lie, as it truly is difficult to have to sacrifice immersion for the analysis and understanding of what you're reading.

Flutterz wins, as free will is defined as such and works that way from a logical standpoint. Trying to explain what that is made of in a philosophical way (which is pretty much the only road I like to take in discussion) is going to be really annoying if you want to avoid weird tricks in logic (which are not really tricks). "5.135: In no way can an inference be made from the existence of one state of affairs to the existence of another entirely different from it. 5.136: There is no causal nexus which justifies such an inference. 5.1361: The events of the future cannot be inferred from those of the present. Superstition is the belief in the causal nexus. 5.1362: The freedom of the will consists in the fact that future actions cannot be known now. We could only know them if causality were an inner necessity, like that of logical deduction. — The connection of knowledge and what is known is that of logical necessity. 6.37: A necessity for one thing to happen because another has happened does not exist. There is only logical necessity. 6.371: At the basis of the whole modern view of the world lies the illusion that the so-called laws of nature are the explanations of natural phenomena. 6.372: So people stop short at natural laws as at something unassailable, as did the ancients at God and Fate. And they both are right and wrong. But the ancients were clearer, in so far as they recognized one clear conclusion, whereas the modern system makes it appear as though everything were explained. 6.373: The world is independent of my will. 6.374: Even if everything we wished were to happen, this would only be, so to speak, a favour of fate, for there is no logical connection between will and world, which would guarantee this, and the assumed physical connection itself we could not again will. 6.375: As there is only a logical necessity, so there is only a logical impossibility." -- Ludwig Wittgenstein (taken from his Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus) In order to make a decision, even a whimsical one, we have to obtain "something" (an object) to build it upon. That "something" was already there, yet we'll always have to modify it in our own way of understanding, restating it in our language (it therefore becomes a subject). Doing this then requires a logic-based method of questioning and/or skepticism that we humans are especially noted for, since we've had to build it like a structure over the ages. Each method of logic for each individual is different (despite the communal one, which only comes second), so then each decision enacted out is also equally as different. What follows everything thus far to now is the modernistic views of things, which are terribly "artificial" and conflicted. We got the individual logic which is very much what could be called "superstitious" by the communal logic, and vice versa. "Free will" is a valid concept, but only by definition. The modern view of it is having the misconception through the word "free" which thinks it's meaning is to encompass everything. Yet we'll then deny that through an argument with our own self after remembering that we can't suddenly "fly in the sky with the flapping of your arms, like what a bird seems to do." Free will is an illusion because humans will only pretend they have it based on their misconception through language, and then later affirm it as an act through denial. This in itself is not what free will consists of, but only can fall into the boundaries of its definition, which is something agreed upon. The words speak for themselves, not the people.

Persona 4 (never played Arena though :/) is one of my favorite games of all time, and given that I'm also really obsessed with its music makes that track a winner. My favorite Persona song has to be: Other than that, this here's a specific genre/style of music I frequently listen to on most if not all general occasions, and it's glorious... Atmospheric/Liquid Drum'n'Bass: Last but not least, I just found and played this on Osu!... and WOW! This is truly a masterpiece in something that can only be best described as "affection" (meaning it's very sugary sweet so beware ^^). Beautiful:

I'm always up for some multiplayer, whenever and wherever. ^^ Here's my really good (bad?) play for today:

Ahh Forest is magnificent (and artsy), I verily look forward to what you have to say about it. ^^ Currently reading Oretachi ni Tsubasa ha Nai now after I finished Baldr Sky Dive2 (which was the most epic game of all time, seriously. ;_; ). So far it's really good (along with being really funny) and not as difficult to read as I'd thought it to be at first, however, I guess I've been desensitized to a lot of tricky japanese in quite a few other VNs before so... we'll see? At times like this, I wish I could just do instead of worry... >_>

There were quite a lot of Visual Novels that made me laugh, but the ones that managed to be the most funny on consistent occasions were; Akatsuki no Goei, Grisaia no Kajitsu, Majikoi, Rewrite, and Supreme Candy (the reasons for this one are definitely a bit more special, but I can't say xD).

Ahhh the Zero Escape series... what a great series it certainly is, both for story and gameplay. While I still do prefer the Infinity Series also written (although only partly written in this case) by Uchikoshi Kotaro to this series, the stories in 999 and VLR are still equally amazing and well-executed. I think if a work of fiction can make you think and make you emotional almost entirely at the same time, then it has succeeded as a work of fiction. Other than that, I'm just really glad that this series is getting out to a lot more people being that it's in console game format. I guess you could say that the series has a lot of intelligence to it.

I have a question for you guys. When you usually play a beatmap in Osu!, what's the average fps that you get? I'm asking because in my Osu! options I have had my frame limiter kept at 120 fps (so I never go over that amount). Yet the thing is that my mouse pointer movement is extremely, err how do I put this, glitchy? Signs of this are only shown in Osu! and nowhere else, and they are usually shown by the mouse moving erratically at random (well, it's weird because those erratic movements seem to follow any circle or slider pathway nearest to the cursor). Osu! seems to do something to the mouse and I can tell that, but I'm wondering if maybe there's a connection having to do with the fps options that I've never touched.

Listening to some pretty weird and twisted stuff (except the last one)... So beware. Freaky, but I love to play this all the time on Osu!. Just noticed it had a video to it so now the song became even freakier and more confusing to understand than before. Really dark. Somewhat dubstep-ish. Lain. ^^ Beautiful piano, my ideal and favorite. <3

Oh, it's not mine however I did do a few tweaks to it. You can find it here: https://osu.ppy.sh/forum/t/220809 The hitsounds were too quiet so I had to turn the sfx volume higher and I also replaced all the variations of "hitnormal" hitsounds with the "soft-hitnormal" from this skin: https://osu.ppy.sh/forum/t/171953 Anyways, in other news... I'll be creating a beatmap, and well, it'll be my first ever beatmap creation experiment/project. This beatmap is for the sake of my unhealthy obsession, which is a certain Visual Novel out there that I really really like (a lot). I hope all goes well with this project because this Visual Novel needs more of its music mapped... for specific reasons that which I cannot detail at this given moment.

My take on this, while being approached differently, is a restating of exactly what Tenkuru said. However, my words aren't really meant to be taken at complete face value so beware. We are distinguishable from, not just animals, but all other existence in that we can learn of our own ignorance. What defines us as "human beings" is to do with the unique way we use language in accordance to all other forms of existence. Animals/plants/etc. will establish a connection via some form of "communication" in order to progress, and this is simply known as language. The difference is that it's something they need to do as a part of their "code for survival" as it could be put, enacting upon language only when and if it's completely necessary... whereas human beings are free to use language as if it's a toy, whenever and wherever they want (this was due to happen over periods of such successful progress). Becoming so accustomed to expressing thoughts, speeches, and patterns in this effortless fashion (no sacrifices have to be made) is how we develop skepticism and start applying it to ourselves and everything else, as well as language itself. We are continuously drawing finer and finer outlines that separate on the abstract "painting of meshed-together colors" that is the entire world. The other way to put it is that we'll just take a blind leap, make a baseless assumption, ask a foolish question and it then makes us more aware of the limits to our expression of language in accordance to ourselves as an established rule (a certain philosopher by the name of Ludwig Wittgenstein talks about this, check him out if interested). The language we have applies what are "filters" to our perceptions of the world around us, which then effects us. Everything not perceived is then a part of the great unknown encompassing infinite possibilities. Here's a pretty cool example which I frequently use a lot to bring across the point that's really important. When the Pilgrims first arrived on America after their long journey, they then met with the tribes of Indians inhabiting the land there. What do you think the Indians saw when they met the Pilgrims? They saw "white men" err "walking on water". Because the Indians had no way to express or define in their language what was a "boat" or "ship" being that they've never seen one before, it was then like the thing didn't even exist! They also realized that treading on water was inexplicable so those beings that looked like them were somewhat if not completely alien. A constant and continuous exposure to those mystical-like occurrences is what gets us asking questions, especially baseless ones which then involve skepticism. Otherwise, there would've been no need as base instincts are something like a code to only be followed. Conclusion is that what really defines human beings is the almost miraculous (it wasn't a miracle though, which is what I realized) amount of success during progress as a species we've had in comparison to pretty much, everything else. Because of this, we built a multilayered structure of language to be easily used and it's what makes us so unique.

I like maps from this guy, they're certainly always unique: Of course, then there's amazing maps like this which are just so smooth to play and yet still relatively fast/jumpy: If any of you know more amazing maps like these or just amazing in general then I will be glad to dl them. I've already dled pretty much every map posted in this thread since 12 pages ago so far.

How did you find your favorite Visual Novel?
Ayana replied to Snowtsuku's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Nothing too special for mine, but I feel it is personally. It was about 2 years ago when I found Subarashiki Hibi, mainly after searching around the internet and vndb for a decent yuri VN. I read a first impressions blog post someone wrote of it talking about the yuri but how it was also seemingly confusing and decided to go try it out myself... boy was I in for a surprise. >_> After I read the whole thing I was in awe for weeks (personal reasons for this), so it became my all-time favorite almost naturally by that point. -
Go for it. YU-NO's actually pretty much worth reading despite what tastes one has. Simply because it is an older and more outdated VN. It has a pretty amazing story even in comparison to some of the newer VNs out there as well, and the translation is really good to boot... so it should at least be interesting to check out, right?

Hopefully my tablet will come in sooner rather than later so I might be able to play this game... The anime is amazing I love it. About 3/4 done with the first season and it's already starting to become one of my favorite anime in this genre, or maybe in general. It's seriously addictive.
-
Oh god, I'm scared now. D: Maybe I should watch something else instead? xD Well I think I'll be fine and I feel like I've already settled on this anime. So whatever's in store for me later will just have to come, I'll be ready.
-
You know, my days of watching anime have only but sprung forth again from the depths of yesteryear. And this time it's to appease to the crazy/insane ideals I've built up in my mind. Even though I don't watch much anymore, I'll finally be starting an anime now. So yeah, watching Love Live! at the moment. I'm looking forward to an anime after so long anyways. ^^

To what edwd2 was saying above about Subahibi, you especially want to get the stuff before immediately going to the true ends of each chapter as it's all important, and the guide for choice order on that is so hilariously simple yet still something one could easily forget if they didn't have it in mind. And to be honest, Subahibi is not all that great as people make it out to be... I just simply see it as the most masterful story ever and obsess over it because of, well, personal reasons/attachments and also to do with my ideals... From an objective and critical standpoint, it's still an extremely good VN (in comparison to the majority of VNs) but not even as good as some of the real masterpieces out there. Don't let the hype get to you is all I'm saying. OT: Well I think I'm almost finished with Baldr Sky Dive2 and I'm planning to read something else also really epic afterwards... Oretachi ni Tsubasa wa Nai. Here's to hoping that I'll actually be able to even read this Novel (I say "novel" for a good reason... >_>).
-
That scene in SnK is amazing... I lol'd so hard. xD Well, anyways my hand hurts right now from so much gameplay... ;_; Baldr Sky omg.
-
I can see it with the others, but... I really really wish Subahibi had complete linear restriction with choices rather than just chapter/route locks. Managed to seriously screw myself over in a chapter by sheer coincidence. -.- If I need to recommend a friend that VN I'll have to have them write down the proper order of choices every single time, even if it is easy to follow... I guess this is just me complaining because I regret it even today. >.< I do tend to like this approach to VNs the best, with the "saving the best for last" style.

I feel like you all are better players than me by far, since I can barely handle AR9 by itself and still don't seem to do very good on anything below either... of course, I don't let that get me down because I play for fun. Although, I feel like *this* is an achievement, at least, by my standards:
