Yes, it means that your system locale is not japanese. You can find it in control panel under Region->Administrative->Language for non-Unicode programs and you need to restart your PC to apply the changes.

Well what happens when you use the rewrite_reg.bat? I didn't use any .reg files or anything else with that so you shouldn't be getting that import error when using it.

So what happens when you use the batch file? And when modifying the rewrite.reg file did you remember to use double backslashes in the file path (e.g. C:\\Rewrite and not C:\Rewrite)? After running rewrite.reg did it tell you that the keys and values were succesfully added to the registry? Does running the siglusengine.exe give any errors after doing any of these things?

In the config folder you find startup.xml file. Open this in notepad and look for lines: <FOLDER> <save>%USERPROFILE%\%brand%\%title%</save> <!--<save>.\save</save>--> </FOLDER> And change it to: <FOLDER> <!--<save>%USERPROFILE%\%brand%\%title%</save>--> <save>.\save</save> </FOLDER> This will ignore any funny characters you have in your account name and create save files into the game folder instead.

Muv-Luv is known to have problems on Windows 8. Try running the game in XP compatibility mode. If that doesn't work I suggest you get a virtual machine with Windows XP and play it on that. (Windows 7 may or may not work)

If the error really was garbage like that then you need to set your system locale to japanese.

The one shipped with Rewrite is written by darkpheonix (no idea what is causing the problem as it works fine for me). I did write the other one though it was originally aimed for windows 8 users.

Save files for hoshimemo are located in Documents\FAVORITE\星空のメモリア. You can try forcing your torrent client to do a recheck on the files before downloading the whole thing again.
