  1. Take a look at the front page: http://blog.fuwanovel.net/ I challenge you to find the second most recent in-depth discussion of a single visual novel on Fuwazette (not an argumentative or opinion article). You have exactly 20s to do so (12s more than the attention span of your average Internet browser). ... Did you succeed? I bet you didn't. It's
  2. Some of these issues sound like they could be handled with a patch (for instance, mages not getting enough orbs). I wonder if I should hold off for a month or two while Eushully tries to address the more gaping flaws...
  3. I've been following the English VN scene for 12 years now, and I've been reading Japanese VNs using translation tools for about 8 years. I could fill the "veteran" slot if you'd like. You can check my VNDB profile for the spread of titles I've played. I should add that if you're looking for someone who's really enthusiastic and bubbling over with ideas on how to attract newcomers to VNs, I'm probably not the the right pick. My attitude is fairly cynical. I am however pretty knowledgeable about the scene in general. I could potentially serve as a counterbalance if you find someone of the more bubbly type. ~~ Also, I think a new thread for every podcast is a good idea. A sticky is a great way to get people to miss an active thread. A sticky is best for conveying an announcement / general information post that isn't subject to change, as in general people will look at it once and then ignore it.
  4. A JAST staff member (likely Nicholas Graham) added the following clarification regarding JAST's decision to censor the official release Shiny Days, yet leave Song of Saya and Littlewitch Romanesque unedited: http://www.reddit.com/r/visualnovels/comments/33ohep/why_i_endorse_jasts_censorship_of_shiny_days/cqq4x8s
  5. School Days without the porn wouldn't be School Days. It's essentially a story revolving around sex, even though the H-content isn't all that prevalent.
  6. Hopefully the transition from fan translator (God's gift to the VN community) to professional translator (corporate stooge and enemy of freedom-loving 怪盗 everywhere) won't be too off-putting.
  7. I see dk382 stating Sumaga would be a Summer release in that VNDB thread. I see Decay here saying something similar. Then I note that dk382 and Decay are the same person. I could've said "according to Decay", but I think I'll stick with "according to rumor".
  8. You lost me here. Use less technical jargon please.
  9. I didn't realize you worked for Sekai Project. Well that'll make things easier I suppose.
  10. According to rumor, JAST may release this title sometime this year. I'm a bit skeptical since at the moment it's not even listed on JAST's project status page. JAST projects fast-paced release schedule for 2015
  11. We can organize some sort of meetup when the convention nears and they release a schedule of panels / events. With the size of the Fuwanovel community, I imagine more than just the two of us will be in attendance. I believe I'll have Internet access at my hotel, so even if it's last-minute we should be able to organize something. Just wearing name tags to a VN panel might not cut it since I'm sure the room will be packed.
  12. I'll be attending. Can't wait to attend my first official VN localization panel.
  13. I think Nayleen got busy with other stuff.
  14. I came across an amusing quote on Reddit regarding the involvement of Sekai Project in the censorship of Shiny Days. Dovac of Sekai Project responded: http://www.reddit.com/r/visualnovels/comments/33ex2z/looks_like_shiny_days_is_coming_out/
  15. So I'm looking at my most recent post, and 4/6 of the "You May Also Like" recommendations are VN Translation Status updates (which are probably completely redundant). That seems kind of silly. 1) Do we even need translation updates every single week? 2) Do we need more than one VNTL post in existence on the blog at any given time? 3) Do we really want 4/6 of the outgoing links to basically lead to the same content? (note: this question is rhetorical) Assuming the recommendations are generated in some automated fashion, it's not doing a very good job. At the very least, my post on If my Heart had Wings should be listed (as the single most related post), but it's not. The system either needs tweaking, or needs to be replaced by manual curation.
  16. Vehement opposition of censorship, targeted in the wrong direction, can just as easily restrict freedom of speech as enable it. http://blog.fuwanovel.net/2015/04/endorse-jasts-censorship-shiny-days/

  17. Rooke and I come from two schools of thought regarding writing. Rooke heavily focuses on style. I focus more on content. Depending on which is more important to you, the method of improvement will differ. For style, I can't really argue with Rooke. All you can really do is model after others. Content however is different. Content is about ideas, and ideas may come from many sources. Originality is extremely valuable, so being able to consider a given topic and offer a unique perspective is a gift of sorts that comes from knowing a little about a lot of different things and being able to do your own independent research. That applies to both fiction and nonfiction writing. A writer who focuses on content values clarity and brevity. Technical writing really helps build this skill. A content focus is about expertise. You have to know your topic inside out. That means anticipating the questions your audience will have and having an answer ready. A good content writer gives the appearance of being all-knowing. That's not really true--they simply are thinking two steps ahead of everyone else.
  18. Article is up. Why I endorse JAST's censorship of Shiny Days
