  1. They were mentioned but I don't think anything definite was said. ~~~ I would like to reemphasize that Peter Payne is now responding to users in the official interview thread. Drop by if you'd like to ask him a question while he's still around.
  2. Peter Payne has posted the interview on the JAST official forums and is now responding to comments.
  3. He who fight trolls should take care that he himself doesn't become a troll. Gaze too long into the Abyss, and the Abyss gazes into you.

I believe the quote originated from the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche.

      That's who I meant. Dang. That's embarrassing.

Freudian slips are par for the course when you're thinking about VNs all day. Hopefully you don't work in gynecology. Or pediatrics.

  4. I wonder why it took them like 3 weeks to post the interview.
  5. Peter Payne said they wanted to release Shiny Days before Anime Expo, yet the stated release date on JAST USA's shop is August 25th. That's interesting.
  6. Some of you people are super gimped. 11 Charisma Sorcerers? You're going nowhere in life. I think with 11 Charisma you can never progress beyond level 1 spells or something. Basically doomed to eternal mediocrity.
  7. You Are A: Lawful Neutral Elf Monk/Wizard (2nd/2nd Level) Ability Scores: Strength- 9 Dexterity- 14 Constitution- 9 Intelligence- 17 Wisdom- 14 Charisma- 12 I fling arcane words with precision and grace. Land a jab and it might hurt--but you have to actually connect first. I look young, but I've been around longer than you'll ever know. Have a loli faerie familiar named Celestia who keeps me company at night.
  8. That's probably the angriest I've been on forums in... well, ever. And I've been at this for 15 years. It's not like I was going to start cursing. I do have a certain professional pride to maintain. It's too bad that forum crash erased all the Fuwanovel archived threads. Before the Da capo 3 C&D, I actually waltzed in and challenged Goddess Aaeru in her Den of Thieves over copyright theory. I think my first comment or two got moderated, but after that we had a very lively discussion that really agitated Aaeru, but I was completely in my element and even earned a tip of the hat from the moderator who had deleted my comments (after that Aaeru labeled me a collectivist). And that's how I came to join Fuwanovel. The point of that story: it takes quite a bit to get me riled up. Hey, I wasted several hours of my life. You got off easy.
  9. When Sanahtlig (Dark_Shiki) gets Angry. Watch sanahtlig go nuclear on JAST USA's forums. http://forums.fuwanovel.net/index.php?/topic/2060-unlimited-chat-works-random-talk/?p=281517

  10. I have a special treat for you all today: When Sanahtlig gets Angry Scroll down to the first post by Dark_Shiki (that's me). Watch me go nuclear on someone on JAST's forums. This is how I write when I'm angry. If for some reason you'd like to enjoy the argument from the start, start on page 29. Rooke also makes a cameo appearance!
  11. This is a Softhouse Chara RPG; that is to say, the story is nothing special. If you feel compelled to cheat, I'd say there's not much reason to play the game at all. By my estimation, the story is less substantial and interesting than even Kamidori.
  12. I'm a diehard Star Ocean series fan, even though 4 was disappointing. Star Ocean 2 was what got me started, but my favorite was 3 (I felt it was much more polished, although the gameplay in 2 was really epic for its time). As for GUST, I'm mainly a fan of the Ar tonelico series. The Mana Khemia series bored me a bit, and Atelier Rorona bored me to the point I actually dropped it in frustration. I have unopened packages of Totori and Meruru still sitting around that I couldn't even motivate myself to unwrap and install. I recently got Ar nosurge but the prospect of having to jump in without playing the prequel (JP only) has demotivated me from actually starting it up. I was a big RPG fan before I got into VNs. Nowadays I mostly satisfy that craving with PC VN-HRPGs. I tried Dragon Age Inquisition lately and it had that bloated feel of a AAA title with way too much to do and not much of it all that fun.
  13. Hmm, both Tri-Ace and GUST have now announced new titles that interest me. I guess it really doesn't matter until they're announced for localization though. Can't exactly play these with ITH.
  14. Yes, I'm referring to customizing blog themes. The option for excerpts would be incorporated as one of the blog themes to choose from. Essentially, I want it to work like Fuwazette currently does. In addition, if possible I'd like the excerpts to be customizable and not necessarily just a snippet from the post. I know this is possible on Fuwazette.
  15. Just don't get your hopes up about getting it up on FuwaReviews through the community submissions process. The red tape is very red. And thick. And possibly not made of tape.
  16. Starless is widely regarded as one of the best nukige to ever be translated. It's basically JAST's Imouto Paradise. Quality stuff, if you're into that sort of thing. I'm still waiting for that front page Starless article by Tay. It's not fair to lavish attention only on OELVN's. Femdom and nymphomania need time in the limelight too.
  17. This topic was recently discussed on VNDB. I suggest checking out the thread, as some good points were made.
  18. I've enlarged the font on subtitles before for my visually impaired friend. It's kind of a pain, because there's redundant mechanisms in place that manage subtitles, and only some of the settings actually do anything. It's going to be specific to the set of codecs and filters you currently have installed. Expect to spend an hour or so tinkering with settings until you find something that works. You really shouldn't be able to see pixels though if they're soft subs, unless there's some weird aliasing going on due to stretch artifacts.
  19. Unpacking the scripts and reinserting them back into the game is a technically complex process that typically requires a dedicated hacker. It's not something an amateur should even be contemplating. If you want to fan translate a game, you need to find a competent hacker to work with. Visual Novel Reader has a function that allows fan annotation, but I don't think the feature is commonly used.
  20. Finally. Someone who actually considers value in their evaluation. Too many games with low production values or that were cheap to localize are marketed as being budget and/or value titles, when in fact the value proposition is pretty terrible. I would however like to remind everyone that Saya no Uta, possibly one of the defining VNs to ever see an official English release, sells for $25 and clocks in at ~10hrs. That's about the same "value" as this game (and I still regard that rate as pretty steep, even considering it was Saya no Uta). Is this game better than Saya no Uta? You're going to have a hard time selling me on that. And that's the argument I'll continue to make until the English scene manages to release a true masterpiece (or 10) that shows it can stand toe-to-toe with the Japanese VN market.
  21. I was bullied in high school, whereas I'm described as having an intimidating presence online. The dynamics are fairly different, though the maturity level is often similar. Nowadays, I think people tend to find that picking fights with me is not in their best interests.
  22. So is this basically a grindfest then? I hate grindfests. On a scale of Ar tonelico to Agarest War, where would you rate this grind-wise?
  23. Could we have more choice in themes? Specifically, I'm not a fan of how posts are currently displayed in their entirety. I'd rather have blurbs (which you click through to see the whole post) so I could fit more posts on the screen. Also, forcing people to click through allows me to better gauge which posts are actually getting views; right now only a small fraction of viewers will click the "view full post" button because all it does is give you a larger feature image and access to the comment section.
