That's a nice little infographic, but it's not terribly accurate. "Loli" is not obscene by definition. See the Miller Test for how US courts define obscenity. Unfortunately, there is a Federal law in the books that criminalizes lolicon that fails the Miller Test: the Protect Act of 2003. This law has not been struck down, and in fact appears to have been upheld in at least two court cases: United States v. Williams and United States v. Whorley. This law applies to federally regulatable traffic, including mail and Internet downloads. Wut? I honestly can't fathom how retarded people would have to be to complain about censorship on a platform that mandates censorship when an uncensored version is available from the same publisher elsewhere. Meanwhile they gobble up If My Heart Had Wings? Are these people daft? Looks like the two games are being sold at about the same price point too.

Looks like you did a good job telling rather than showing in this post. While endearing and amusing in its own way, your recounting of your first artistic foray as a child in your first draft was deficient in useful information (i.e., content). This version is much more satisfying. Good work!

If you think this game is frustrating, try Suzukuri Dragon. Mid to late game I had to reload constantly because I'd get swarmed by high-level adventurers randomly for no apparent reason that would completely wipe me out.

School Days + fully animated + tons of choices that matter and with no clear "correct" answer + highly branching storyline with over 10 unique endings + semi-realistic drama that doesn't rely on moe tropes + officially localized (support English releases!), and the prequel Shiny Days will be released in a few months - game engine is a bit unstable and crashes once every few hours -

Atwiki has walkthroughs for a lot of the gameplay titles I play. But like Clephas said, I usually just put in the game's name in kanji from VNDB into google with "kouryaku". -

Third-parties charging for DLC would also be seen as unacceptable in most cases, unless the authors expressly permitted this. -

My guess is that Sekai Project is going to remain primarily a doujin publisher for the next few years. I'm not sure how they even grabbed Key and Frontwing to begin with. Maybe the two companies just wanted to work with a publisher whose main business wasn't porn? -

That's not necessarily the case. There's many potential reasons for this: 1. The company simply doesn't want to attract Western attention (i.e., bad press overseas is bad for domestic business) 2. Potential sales overseas aren't worth the effort of coordinating with Western companies for an overseas release (i.e., negotiations, engine hacking, modifying art, looking into potential international legal issues, quality assurance) 3. The company has a moral stance against removing mosaics. 4. The company is resistant to dropping prices for an overseas release lower than Japanese retail value (typically $80). -

Assume the following premises: 1. Intellectual property is like real property. The owner owns this property, and retains sole right to monetize this property unless this right is legally transferred. 2. A game script is intellectual property. 3. Translation of the game script is a modification to the original script, and the ideas in the script still belong to the original owner. 4. The monetization of others' intellectual property without their consent is intellectual theft. It follows that the act of the translator handing the translated script to others for a fee is intellectual theft, whether "others" is 1 person or many people. That script is property that is not his (alone). -
I'm intrigued by this concept and wish to learn more. From the description I'm not quite sure exactly what this is, but I do have experience in forum fantasy roleplays. I also happen to be familiar with the political intrigues referenced in the synopsis.

If Japanese companies wanted their games translated, they'd work with JAST, Mangagamer, or Sekai Project to get it done. The rest probably don't want their games translated at present, and there's many potential reasons for this. Someone coming along and selling an unlicensed translation of their work to them is like theft. The ideas in those games are their's, and an unauthorized 3rd party charging money to distribute those ideas (in another language) is intellectual theft, in the same vein as plagiarism. It doesn't matter if it might increase the Japanese companies' sales slightly. It's still theft. -
I'm actually mildly autistic myself, and I have friends who have high functioning Autism as well. Interacting with them is refreshing because you know they'll always tell you what's on their mind, even if the truth is inconvenient. That's a strength, not a weakness. Autistics are often extremely honest with a strong sense of integrity. Autistics tend to be nonconformists. From their perspective, it's "neurotypicals" who end up seeming same-ish.

I got through all their games with no issue at all. In many cases the skill text can be hooked, though you have to switch threads to view it. And once you've figured out the menus of one game, you've figured out most of them. There's even interface patches for some of their games that help with that (though I've never used them). For critical information, you can always check the English wiki pages for their games. Failing that, you can always machine translate Japanese walkthroughs (though this can get painful). I played a ton of RPGs using machine translation without getting stuck, so I definitely don't agree that it requires trial and error to progress. I even played Sengoku Rance in Japanese with machine translation (before there were any English resources on the game) without being forced to start over due to bad decisions. And that's one of the hardest VN-RPGs out there. It's definitely possible. P.S. Don't play Rance games with machine translation. The dialogue translates terribly.

I played a slew of gameplay titles with machine translation before I knew any Japanese. It's perfectly doable, and in most cases you can follow the story just fine. You want to look for titles that use clear, descriptive language and avoid titles with strange accents / poor grammar (e.g., Sengoku Rance), convoluted styles or archaic language (e.g., Amatsukaze), games that purposely mislead the reader with vague and ambiguous language (e.g., mysteries), and games with a ton of word-plays / humor (most chara-ge). In other words, you generally want plot-focused games or nukige with a clear progression of events in chronological order. I found that Eushully titles machine translate particularly well, and in general I stuck to VNs with gameplay so that the work of interpreting machine translation was broken up by gameplay segments. Take a look at my VNDB profile. Most of the games I've played in Japanese machine translate well.
