  1. Hello there, welcome to the forums! What is your favorite VN?
  2. I like Quartett, but I've never played a raising sim. Hmm...
  3. If you liked Umineko so much, why not try Higurashi? Sure, the focus is on the kids, but they do have their issues, and the VN tackles some serious issues, like child abuse (although it's rather heavy-handed.) If you're in the mood for something short, Narcissu 1 and 2 also deals with adult subject matter.
  4. But routes doesn't mean bad endings only. Think of the infinity series (and 999 and VLR,) you couldn't do them without routes. Routes can be used as an effective storytelling device.
  5. Welcome, to a fellow Planescape:Torment lover! . Muv Luv Extra isn't that good (I sorta hate it...) but Unlimited is, and Muv Luv Alternative, well, you'll see how it's all been worth it!
  6. I think it depends on the novel itself. Both formats have their strengths, enough so you can't judge a priori whether something is bad or good based on format alone.
  7. Symphonic Rain, Stens;Gate, Ever 17, Remember 11 and Umineko are my favorites. If you want something with gameplay, Aselia the Eternal is also pretty good.
  8. Me neither, the way it rushes to its conclusion would make it a frustrating read as a standalone.
  9. Nah, Unlimited's good on its own, and there's something to be said for experiencing first hand how Takeru deals with his new reality Besides, it's not like it takes an herculean effort to reach Unlimited, with a walkthrough, you can be done with Extra in an hour or so...
  10. 9 is out already.
  11. Welcome to the forums!
  12. It's good. Yes, it has its infodumps, but the action and characterization are pretty good. Rare to have a translated VN with such an amoral protagonist.
  13. I'm quite fond of Umineko's Golden Nocturne, which decay posted earlier. Also,
  14. Oh God, I thought I was the only one. It was sort of fun for about 3, 4 hours or so, but after that long, you want the author to get started with the goddamn plot of the game. And everytime it seemed that it was about to happen (Look! Yumiko's father came to visit! Important!) it was a fakeout, and more slice of life scenes remained. To answer the question, I'd like my VNs as long as they need to be. Most of what I've played is bloated as hell though, and could use some trimming (Looking at you Grisaia, Umineko and MLA...) I disagree that a short VN can't make an impact; Saya no Uta would've been, er, "unique" even if it was two hours long, and Hanachirasu's Akane was such a funny dick that he was endearing within mere minutes of reading the game.
  15. Hmm, it's an OELVN. Unless it's on steam and features lots and lots of plot, half of the profits won't be that much anyway.
  16. But there's a voicepatch for it on pc, and for some obscure reasons, beyond the comprehension of mortal men, he doesn't want that.
  17. Quartett, Higanbana, Banshee's last cry.
  18. Another vote for the SonoHana games. If you want Shoujo Ai, Aoishiro is good, too.
  19. Can't say I've ever felt any romantic attachment towards a fictional character.
  20. Right click, paragraph, Line spacing: double probably?
  21. Tears to Tiara II for Ps3 has plenty of VN elements.
