I've been reading Umineko these past few weeks, only chapter 7 and 8 left, but I decided to take a break. So far it's a very good read. My main complaint is uhhhh.... "BEATORICHEEEEEE". Seriously, how they pronounce other western names is not perfect, but the never ending BEATORICHE definitely takes the cake.

For now, I'm rereading parts of Grisaia no Kajitsu and Grisaia no Meikyuu because I just feel like it. I'll probably go back to Umineko when holiday begins.

Exactly. I already mentioned it earlier in this thread, but I'll repeat myself: I think this route should've been used in a different VN. It's good by itself, and has some great moments, but considering the type of VN Grisaia is, it looks weird.

Also, I like the alternative interpretation more (can't use spoilers on a phone, so I'll leave it at that).

Stuck in a coffeehouse, having to wait for two hours for my gf, I've started reading Locked Heart on my tablet. Considering my experience so far,  I'm starting to think I might be into Otome...

Alongside my replay of Little Busters, which is as great as I remember, I went back to Dal Segno after a short time away from it. Maybe I was just burnt out when I tried reading it the first time but it actually didn't take long to get past any initial annoyances that I had and now I've been enjoying it immensely. Haven't gotten quite to the heroine routes yet but I'm fairly far into the common route by the looks of it and it seems to be shaping up to be a fun experience. Also as of right now Hazuki and Io are best girls and I'm fairly certain that It's going to stay that way.

Was the first vn i tried after getting back to vn's, but i just couldn't do it. Only played the prologue but the protagonist was absolutely terrible. Zero personality whatsoever.

Io was the only character I liked in Dal Segno

I see, well to each of their own if we talk about the preference here. As for me in regard of chuuni, well to be honest I didn't think it much here but seeing that usually both of chuuni and shonen have many common things e.g. battle scenes (It help that majority chuuni VNs out there were have some battle), my conclusion is would be that chuuni was more or less like ramped up shonen. Or perhaps shonen was more or less could be categorized as chuuni there. In the end, it's just my opinion though so I might be wrong. Oh, and as for Conjueror himself he said that he didn't like Dies Irae at the first readthrough because the cons that he was stated, and after the second read he started to appreciate Dies Irae - you didn't need to do that though.

As for bars and meteor showers, it was back at Clephas's review of Tokyo Babel when you said that. From what I read back then, I already guessed that you might be a Germany because I'm sure that any people from outside Germany would never heard the German words at the bar everyday, and my guess was pretty spot on there.

I actually had to look that up to remember it, but that was in a thread with a discussion about the translation quality of Tokyo Babel not in one of Clepahs' review threads. But that was actually an interesting thing in Dies Irae, I expected them to have lots of grammatical and spelling mistakes in the German sentences, but surprisingly it was pretty much all correct, at least the parts I checked (I didn't read all of them). I'm sure that they either had a translator with good German knowledge or an editor helping out.

BTW, I started reading Ourai no Gahkthun from Liarsoft. I had some trouble at first to get it working in Windows 10 since it always stopped working after 5 - 10 minutes, but after setting it to Windows 7 compatibility mode, it worked like a charm. The only small annoyances left are the small font size and the starting intro playing with approximately ~800 decibel sound intensity without any possible option to lower it. 

Technical problems aside, I'm positively surprised so far. When I read Shikkoku no Sharnoth years ago, I liked the atmosphere and setting, but the writing was a bit too poetic for my taste with a rather chaotic story flow - and not to forget the silly mini game. But Gahkthun seems to have kept all the things I liked, like the fascinating world building and the great atmosphere, but managed to get rid of all flaws from Sharnoth in the writing and story flow - at least so far. The fictional Offshore Academia city in France the story takes place gives me feelings of nostalgia from my visit of Paris last year, and the wonderful classic soundtrack further supports the whole mature feeling of the setting - it just oozes atmoshere. Neon is also a very likable character who fortunately avoids to fall into the trap of being cliché cute. Since the story is told from her perspective at the beginning, the VN has strong otome vibes. I just met Tesla so I can't say too much about him yet, but he looks pretty cool so far - I think the both will make a great couple.

I've finished Locked Heart, quite a sweet little experience. Soon after I was done reading I've realized that it's by the same developer who made Cinderella Phenomenon.

So, it seems like this is going to be an Otome reading month for me. I might not start with CP immediately, but my experience with Locked Heart definitely makes me optimistic about it. :3

Keep in mind that Gahkthun supposedly has a much better translation than Sharnoth. It's possible the issues you had with the writing in the latter were Ixrec's fault.

I'm curious, what were your problems with Sharnoth? I pretty much skipped Gahkthun because Sharnoth wasn't as good as Inganock, so I didn't wanted to feel disappointed if the quality went down again. I agree with you that the atmosphere was awesome and the mini game was boring, so maybe I could give Gahkthun a chance?

It's possible that he had some part in the overly poetic writing style, but it would be unfair to blame him for the flaws in the story flow.

I'd say the main issue I had with it was that it wasn't focused enough, both regarding characters and story. For example I think I already know Gahkthun's Neon better than I ever knew Mary. Furhermore, the story in Sharnoth was constantly jumping from here to there and characters you just got used to were suddenly dropped. Especially the disappearance of Charlotte kind of pissed me off since I really liked her.

Gahkthun appears much more refined in literally every possible way. Though, from what I heard some ongoing flaws of the series will re-occur but aren't as distinctive as before. Especially regarding the couple of Neon and Tesla who seem to get a stronger focus than usual. From what I read so far I'd say I can confirm that, but it's still just a first impression. Only someone who has really finished the VN can give a definitive answer here.

But Sharnoth is widely considered to be the weakest part of the series, so it's probably save to say that Gahkthun is at least better.

I agree with your points. Mary really was a weak MC and the character arcs didn't work as good there in comparison with Inganock.

I'll wait for your impressions when you finish the game then!

Glad to see one person enjoying Gahkthun and another person considering playing it. It's a lovely game with a lot to recommend it. I think Inganock is ultimately a better story, but it's not that big a gap, and I found Gahkthun to be a very enjoyable read.

Now that you mentioned it, yeah it was at translation quality thread of Tokyo Babel. Looks like I did remember it wrong here lol. My point was still same though that I already guessed you as a Germany since I read your post back at translation quality of Tokyo Babel thread.

Anyway, in regard of Gahkthun there have fun.

PS - As for Ixrec matter, I afraid that this is quite a sticky subject to talk about. But if the problem was also exist in the original version for the readers, then it should be not the fault of the translator (Ixrec). That's all that I could say in regard of this.

Just finished Dramatical Murder, probably the most popular BL novel around. I'm always afraid to try super popular things bc overhype kinda ruins the experience in the end, but I'm glad this didn't happen here   The game really is pretty good, upbeat and light-hearted but with a good dose of feels. The characters were also interesting and that made each route better than the last!

Later today, I'll probably finish Nurse Love Addiction, my first Yuri VN. Aaaah, what a cute game this is! All of these girls are so adorable and Asuka is such a funny and nice MC! But WHAT DA HELL WERE THOSE BAD ENDINGS?????? They pulled some really creepy stuff, but Asuka was with a pure smile in her face in all CGs. Damn, Itsuki's one was...

so I have to say I don't know what exactly happened in kuds past and what's her memory of the gunshot but if I had to take a wild guess I'll say she was the one who killed riki's parents, the story ties in really nicely with kurugaysas route and I can see pieces falling together although I was expecting during the chain and gears sequence to end it there like they did with kurugaya and have me go back.

Also at this point I kinda get the hint that Rikis "illness" is not really an illness but I guess well have to wait and see

For me reading something like this is like solving a puzzel and getting more hints along the way, for instance I can see a plot forming with the god and with kurugayas route and the gears, also something is off with kyouske, I don't know what the deal is but I am 200% sure that kyouske is riki from the future and yes I know this sounds ridiculous and stupid and retarded but I can't get this idea out of my head

either that or he is the souske aizen of little busters I mean like did you guys see his face during the battles, dude looks fucking evil

Finished Mayuri's route in Flowers and I'm pretty disappointed in how abrupt and unfulfilling that ending was it felt rushed and unsatisfactory. I mean don't get me wrong I by and large really enjoyed Flowers but I think the characters deserved a better ending.

Looking forward to the next one though

I feel you man, I've definitely had the same reaction. The most absurd part that this only gets resolved in fourth part of the series - that's one hell of a cliffhanger, stretching across two other games.

I encourage you to play through Rikka route though, I've found it quite compelling and much more in-character for Suou. I don't really dig the moral of the Mayuri route, it's all about Suou trying to be someone she's not, while Rikka is much closer to her when it goes to personality and accepts her the way she is. And Rikka's ending is sweet enough to make me a bit angry it's not canon. I really hope choosing her is still an option in the last game, I was never that much into Mayuri...

She literally tried to blackmail Suou into having a relationship with her by threatening to out one of her friends. The same friend mind you that had feelings for Rikka. That seemed incredibly underhanded to me.

Still she did kind of come through in the end (kind of) so I might give her a shot.

I'll  probably try and tackle the monolith that is Little Busters next. I forgot how long that game is.

Going through Funbag Fantasy and i'm surprised at how much i'm liking it. The art is good all-around and the story is simple but fun.

I'm finally finished with Nekopara and to be honest, it was really getting boring by the end. I've found the first two ones quite enjoyable in all their trashiness, but at third instalment the predictability and abundance of porn tropes started getting on my nerves a bit. I liked Maple as a character and while I knew that every catgirl has to end up as part of the protagonist's harem, it was just such a waste of all the development she got throughout the series. I've really wished they would do something at least slightly out of the box with her, especially after that one yuri scene they've put in Vol. 3...

So, yeah, playing porn games for the story will always end in disappointment.

Starting with AIRIS now, let's see what the western otome world has in store for me. :3
