Ryechu Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 I vote for Undertale for the sole reason that it was able to tell an amazing (set) of stories without having to rely on what every other game thinks they have to rely on - amazing graphics, innovative gameplay (while the thought of talking fights out instead of just beating the stuffing out of everything is pretty unique). That and because sans is a boss. There are many connotations with that term, and I mean every last one of them. Quote
Thunderbro Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 My vote is going towards the English localization of trails in the Sky SC. Despite its age its just a fantastic game. I could really care less about any of recent AAA releases, I just don't think they are anywhere near as much fun. Quote
Katatsumuri Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 (edited) Homeworld remastered. What more can I say, apart from the fact that I just love RTS.Edit: Oh shit, I completely forgot about Bloodborne. Edited November 18, 2015 by Katatsumuri Quote
Rose Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 MGS V's gameplay is by far the best, flaws are naturally there as in any game, but damn, they said the game would have: "unparalleled strategic freedom", and they delivered. Still, I think Bloodborne was way better when considering not only the gameplay, but things like lore and design. Quote

Katatsumuri Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 with the frame rate of a man having a seizure in slow motion. On a quick off-topic note (since this thread seems to be heading a towards a lock-down (or the back of a particularly suspicious white van)); why are so many Japanese games so poorly optimized for the console they were made to be played on? To take Neptunia as an example: the game shouldn't be that demanding graphically or in terms of processing power, and yet it plays "with the frame rate of a man having a seizure in slow motion." Eclipsed Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 The mainline Nep games ie. rebirth actually have very little to no ecchi moments at all and are more in line w/ "cute girls doing cute things"; it's the side games Hyperdevotion Noire and U: Action Unleashed that cross the line w. the kissing each other and clothes ripping. atorq Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Dirt Rally? Not sure if it has had it's release yet though.GTA V on PC is what i have put most hours into so far, but that's not really a new release. Maybe The Witcher 3 will prove to be the best game or, but probably not, Halo 5, definitely not Fallout 4 though. I feel like have missed everything this year. Quote
monkeysrumble Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 This seems like it was a great year in gaming, however my PC sucks and I don't own a next gen console other then wii u so I haven't played any of the new AAA games. So I guess my vote goes for Undertale with an honorable mention to Ori and the Blind Forest. I love Undertale because it's something that you can play through in less then a day but it has a shit ton of replay value. And Ori is well...metroidvania so I may have a bias for that. Quote
HotTrax Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Witcher 3 Fully realized open world with so much in it. Best rpg ever played no doubt.MGSV technical marvel with best in class gameplay but falls short with half assed story. Those would be the only ones I've played that deserve to top chart. Quote

I'm much more into the fast frenetic pace of BB, though I do enjoy that wearing heavier armor on DS makes you slower. Also, no love for Bloodborne here? ): Katatsumuri 1 Quote
Abyssal Monkey Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 After several releases this year, no one nominated even one Sakura game. Seriously guys? xDThe only one would be Sakura Clicker. VNs aren't gaems. Off topic: Okami, one of your all time favorite anime of all time Sword Art Online promotes polygamy. I'm sorry Ren. Having read the books and seen the anime, how the hell did you come to this conclusion. I blame the fandom for this warping of viewpoints. Please cite specifics. For now I'll throw you in the camp of "males can't have female friends". Narcosis 1 Quote
Monmon Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 I sill prefer the first dragon age rather than Inquisition, but isnt DAI was released in 2014?Still cant beat Mgs5 though(Yeah hate me please), the reason i prefer mgs5 due the gameplay though. The story of mgs5 were...well lets just say not as good as DAI, even bloodborne which have a short story is better. Quote

Kradar Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 I don't get why Undertale gets so much praise.I played it at a friend's home 'cause i couldn't even be bothered to buy it and he was constantly talking about it.It was OK, nothing exceptional. Probably even FO4 can be called GOTY in place of it From what i've heard, it's because people were all like "Hm, this game has pixel graphics, i don't expect much from this stuff..." at first, and after they tried it they were overwhelmed by the unexpected... decency?... of the storyline it had. That's not how it works, you don't call a game best of the year because it was better than what you'd expected.Ah, and i'd like to know one thing or two about TW3. Does it still have the same... fantastic... combat system its predecessors had? Quote

The story of mgs5 were...well lets just say not as good as DAI, even bloodborne which have a short story is better.MGS V has thousands of issues at hand, but the gameplay is just so amazing that I can't really hate the game, but yeah, the story was pretty lackluster. I don't think Bloodborne's story was exactly short, it's just the thing with the Souls' games, the fans have to connect the dots from every line of text in the game to truly understand the story we're given, and even then we're still left with lots of things to speculate about.Never play souls so i dont know bout it, but i followed lots of Bloodborne's lore videos on Youtube especially VaatiVidya. Well i guess i`m wrong its not supershort or something but its short though and i heard even Souls series have longer story. The main story itself is actually short u know, but if u expand it the lore/bacground story like Byrgenwerth and Cainhurst it will make the story longer. Does it still have the same... fantastic... combat system its predecessors had? It gets high praise because it's a deconstruction of RPGs and uses that to create a relatively new experience which some people have found depth in. All the mechanics and graphics are nothing new, yes, but the way it uses them are. I haven't played it yet, but seeing the first 20 minutes really does show how it is different from the typical RPG. OriginalRen Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 If we are going to say that Undertale deserves to be on this list, then I honestly think Five Nights at Freddy's deserves some sort of praise as well. While I wouldn't call it the best out there, Scott made a game that banded a lot of people together with theories and speculation. Even at the end of it all, he never revealed the truth. That being said, I feel that video games which focus more on their stories are what people want to see more of going forward. Undertale and FNAF have mediocre game elements, but it's the story that make people vote it the best out there. In fact, a lot of people complain that Fallout 4 ruined the series by making the story a piece of crap with 4 decisions in every dialogue. It's very interesting, because we as visual novel fans get turned on by amazing stories. I really hope more video game players expose themselves to this genre. It will be interesting to see what the future holds. Narcosis 1 Quote

Kaguya Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 (edited) This is not a thread about otakuism, porn in neptunia or 2D and 3D. As such, an astounding 30 posts about those 3 subjects have been deleted (sheesh, and I'm supposed to be in a(n? [English is hard] LOA. what do we even have other mods for). Keep it going and it won't end as just a few posts disappearing~ Edited November 18, 2015 by Kaguya Darklord Rooke, Tyrael and AaronIsCrunchy 3 Quote
