Valmore Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 No, not the protagonists' fathers, who rarely exist outside of "He works all the time... out of the country... on a Siberian Research Barge... With Mom." I mean, the one's that appear to keep you from your waifus. I just finished Noble Works, and a parental figure of some sort plays a feature role in all but one of the girls' routes. I can't find my spoiler button, but suffice to say, they're all idiots. Are there any visual novels where the girl's dad is normal, even kinda cool? Doesn't act like a child around his daughter. Doesn't act like he hates you and wants to kill you, or test how much of a man you are. That sort of thing. Quote
Nashetania Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 Uh oh... Hoshizora no Memoria? Tenkuru, LiquidShu and Vorathiel 3 Quote
Yuuko Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 Is it normal for a dad to pay his debt by giving his son away as some random rich girl's husband? Quote
sanahtlig Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 I prefer when the father of the heroine and the protagonist are one and the same. Soulless Watcher, LiquidShu, castor212 and 2 others 5 Quote
Fred the Barber Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 Nagisa's father Akio is probably my favorite character in Clannad. His record across all the various conditions initially listed is kind of mixed, but I think he comes out on top. - definitely not normal - pretty damn cool, almost all of the time - kind of does act like a child around his daughter, though I'm not certain it's the same as what you're saying - doesn't act like he hates you and wants to kill you. Does act childishly jealous at times, but he's usually joking around with it. - does test how much of a man you are, but in a way which I didn't find obnoxious - gives you porn mags That last one was on the list, right? Eclipsed Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 That'll be hard, 'cos by definition heroine fathers will only exist to cockblock the protagonist in one way or another, or they wouldn't exist at all since there's no narrative value in having them. Much like the well-established parentless-protags we usually see. Quote
Kawasumi Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 Funny you should mention it, im atm playing a game with the most normal father in the world lol. Quote
Zodai Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 Oftentimes it could have to do with making the characters feel 'mature' while still appealing to a younger audience. You want them to feel like they're older but want to make sure they're still relatively young high schoolers who happen to be older than 18. If your protagonist is 30 years old he's going to be mature but he's not going to be relatable to the 18-something readers. Likewise if they still live with their parents they're not only going to usually be plotblockers but make the characters feel less mature to the reader. Filling out the details of every character's family as well is going to cause character bloat, which would in turn be an issue with how many art assets and spritesets you can create. Quote
TexasDice Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 In Comyu, we have Benio's dad. He doesn't interact with the protagonist all that much and his only role in the story is to clarify some background information in a few lines. Quote
spademan Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 cho dengeki stryker, sakuras father is actually funny and pretty cool Quote
littleshogun Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 If you speak about father, maybe Narika's dad from Beat Blade Haruka? Quite a normal father, except with mission to had his daughter marrying MC and had her sex with MC (It make sense in context if you play it). Although he didn't show up much though, I think it would fulfill OP request. Quote
