Lukassrod Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 Hello, I have for quite some time now been trying to find a good visual novel to read, but since I tend to read very slowly and because I am picky in what I read, I have not completed a whole lot of them... The ones that I have are Katawa Shoujo, Yume Miru Kusuri, and Dramatical Murder, all of which I love, and all of which are pretty well know... So I was wondering if you guys could help me... I want something that doesn´t fall in the usual cliche and that is willing to challenge the reader in some respects, with something emotional and complex... Dramatical Murder is what comes to mind... Based on what I completed I was wondering if you have some suggestions... It would be much appreciatted... Quote
mitchhamilton Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 HELLO AND WELCOME! my suggestions are maji de watashi ni koi shinasai, or the fruit of grisaia. grisaia might be up your alley. hope that helps. Quote
DharmaFreedom Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 You should check out this list, i'm sure you'll find something that you'll like here! Also i suggest G senjou no maou , Kono Oozora ni, Tsubasa o Hirogete, Ourai no Gahkthun ~What a Shining Braves~ [love this] and other translated liar-soft games. Have fun searching for your next Vn and hope you enjoy the read! Btw, this is just a suggestion, if you tag your VNDB list here it'll be easier for people to give you solid recommendations according to your taste since you mentioned that you haven't completed some [did you drop them?]. Cheers! akaritan 1 Quote
Fred the Barber Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 I'll second G-Senjou no Maou, and I'll add Sekien no Inganock. Both are at times emotional, and both avoid a lot of the cliches of a typical VN. I also think both of them may have what you mean when you ask for challenging the reader, though admittedly I tend to read less dark material overall, so I might have a different bar for that than most. That said, the Dramatical Murder reference has me thinking in some other directions entirely, but unfortunately not directions I've explored personally (I haven't played Dramatical Murder, for starters, nor anything remotely close to it). As the others have suggested, if you can link a VNDB page with your votes, that might help us offer better recommendations. Quote
littleshogun Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 Welcome to Fuwanovel. I'd saw your post in VNDB and I thought that you should ask for recommendation at Fuwanovel here. If you looking for something dramatic, I think for recently translated Tokyo Babel and Root Double should be good here. Hope it'll help. Quote
akaritan Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 The House in Fata Morgana is absolutely fantastic and it definitely fulfills all of your requests. It's an experience that you won't really get anywhere else in visual novels, and it's definitely emotional and complex. But seeing as you're just starting out, I would also point you towards this chart, and definitely look at Kaguya's list, which is linked above me. Quote
Kawasumi Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 might as well get scarred for life right at the start Saya no Uta akaritan 1 Quote
Lambda Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 Taking this in the BL/yaoi direction, if you want something similar to Dramatical Murder, I think like Lamento and Togainu no Chi are probably pretty good. By the same company and all. I did like what I read of Lamento, thought the world really came alive. Haven't read Togainu no Chi, admittedly. (And, y'know, Sweet Pool. Whenever it comes out in English). No Thank You! is also pretty good, and got pretty deep. Liked it a lot. There's a lot of h-scenes in it, though, so if that bugs you you won't get too far, I think (although the control button can be your friend in situations like these, and I only found the first and last scenes of each route to be important, but it's understandable if you don't play cause of those). There's also Dramatical Murder's fandisc, reconnect! ...Well, it's probably not really what you're looking for in that it's short fun and h-scenes but if you want more of Dramatical Murder's characters it's good. The others gave good recommendations for non-BL titles, so I'll stop here. Quote

Cheers! I only completed the three visual novels that I mentioned... By the way, thanks everyone for the awesome suggestions... I will be looking into them. With so many suggestions I´m certain that I will find another VN that I like Quote
