If I remember, Shuffle was my first story based eroge here (Although if you want to know my first eroge it was Succubuss Soon though). I think I'm okay with this entering Steam, because the H scenes at original one was quite light and most importantly they had experience to port it to PS2. And apprently they had some new content for PS2 version. Let's just wait and see here, although I think personally I'm satisfied with original one.

No, that's not why. MangaGamer would have happily released a Steam version, they do so all the time. Navel wanting to go to Steam likely has little to do with their breakup with MG.

lol, people really hate Shuffle here, huh? Well, I think it's pretty crap, too. But it was one of MangaGamer's top performing non-nukiges for a while, and I've seen some fans of the anime as well. It's certainly not a VN I enjoyed much at all, but even then I think some people are being a wee bit hyperbolic here. Really its main crime is that it's just really freaking boring. It's not offensively bad or anything.

Well, I guess a censored release on steam is better than it not being sold at all anymore... 

Though Shuffle is actually one of those eroges where the H contet plays into the story, which might make one particular route in this game hard to understand, unless they add in some extra filler content in this port. Hopefully they make an 18+ patch later on...

If this was actually Essence+, I would have been tempted to give the game another shot. But it's not. There are two new routes in this version, and not much else new or different. Essence+, as far as I'm aware, adds a ton of new content in the common route, lots of new characters, and four more routes on top of everything else. Maybe it would actually be decent if that stuff was done well?

I just gave up on that hope and got the Japanese version a while back... It would be pretty great to have it TLed, but doesn't look like it will happen.

So, anyone know who gets the extra routes in the port? Mayumi and Kareha?

Interesting side note: YumeHaven is a newly-formed sub-brand of Active Gaming Media, a pretty huge general localization house, which has handled localization for hundreds of games in the past. They're describing YumeHaven as their "first" VN brand. Implying there might be more? Maybe they'll do an eroge brand? It seems kind of unlikely to me, though, since this is a pretty well-established company who might not want to risk their reputation being tarnished by porn. Or maybe they'll be like Degica and not give a fuck.

Active Gaming Media generally does legit localizations with professionally paid staff. The fact that they actually are a large localization company with full-time staff means that their projects cost more money, which is typically why these kinds of companies don't do VNs in the first place. VNs bring in fuck all revenue. It'll be interesting to see if they stick around.

Eh, probably not, it's still Shuffle.

Shuffle Essence+ is basically an entirely different game. It still has that mediocrity feel to it, but it has much more content to justify its existence and I'm sure if that was the version the West knew about it wouldn't be as hated of a franchise (I personally don't see why the original Shuffle is even THAT hated, it's not like it's Ikikoi, but alas).

The thing I disliked most about Shuffle is how abrupt every scene felt. They never flowed into each other, you were just shuffled from scene to scene apropos of nothing. And they ended as abruptly as they began more often than not, never, ruining multiple good gags by never giving the reader the opportunity to actually appreciate them. It was a very weird and choppy experience. Essence+ may add a lot more scenes, but does it rewrite the existing scenes?

On the note of Essense+, I think it adds in new scenes into the already existing ones. So, it doesn't just add in something new on the side, but adds it into the already existing scene, making it feel longer and better. Meaning scene X in the common route might not end where it used to, but flows into the new scene instead.

I still haven't played the whole game yet, but I felt like I was playing a new version of the common route when I went through that. It also introduces the new characters in the middle of the common route, (most of them at least,) and so seeing as you have new people present from the early stages of the game, that too feels like a new experience. (So it's not like they just slapped on a new route at the end, that randomly just appears.)

I wonder why they'd choose to release an updated version of the console one instead of Essence+ though, I know this one apparently has more stuff than the original one but isn't Essence+ the definitive version of Shuffle! ?, but like you said I hope they'll release a +18 patch for this one.

While I know that I'm probably among the minority here, I did like and enjoy Shuffle!, so I'm okay with this for the most part (if they release a +18 patch). Hey at least we're getting Kareha and Mayumi.

of course they are, its actually pretty genious just to port the console version because then there isnt any hscenes to censor or to patch back lol

It does save them the trouble of dealing with the backlash or other things that may come along with it, they just get away with it by saying "This version doesn't have any H to make a patch for to begin with"

It was sadly removed from mangagamer, which means the 18+ version is no longer for sale in English legally.

No need to get heated. Yes, there is a lot of people who want 18+ versions of censored eroge, and they have every right to. (It is eroge after all.) If there was an English 18+ alternative, that would be a different story.

It is not censored eroge. It is a PS2 game that is an alternative version where the porn just never happened.
