Khazit Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 Seeing that Japan is mostly conservative, is there any good VN that feature those heavily? Preferably in positive view? Quote
sanahtlig Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 Does a quest to conquer the world and rape and/or mindbreak the various world leaders count as anarchism? Quote

If you end up sacrificing most or all of your 'subjects' in a blood rite to save the world, there's not much left to rule over. It's hard to call it a dictatorship at that point. Quote

That's also not anarchism, on the basic of even one person having authority over others. Also, offtopic. Quote
Kaguya Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 Swan Song starts with a large-scale societal collapse and deals with how a small group of survivors sees the the aftermath of it. It deals with what would happen if the government suddenly stopped working due a big disaster and is probably the closest of what you're looking for, though it doesn't deal with some of what you want. Daibanchou is the wacky story of a protagonist attempting to destroy all of the currently existing governments and let people re-arrange society as they wish once he's done with that, with absolute no intention to rule over anyone afterwards (though he does so by creating an organized military force.) It doesn't actually deal with any themes in-depth since it's mostly comedic, but I figured you might like it. Khazit 1 Quote
Zakamutt Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 You could probably argue for Brass Restoration having existential themes. The main character loses one of his arms, and consequently becomes unable to play music professionally, which was what gave his life meaning - thus losing meaning in life, coming into contact with the Absurd. The rest of the VN has plenty of choices, in line with an emphasis on the choices of individuals, and there are several different ways in which the protagonist can again find meaning in life, or not, depending on the choices picked. Silvz Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 I recommend Swan Song too, as it is the closest I can think of to what you want. Maybe Steins;Gate too? I think there are very few/no translated VNs with those themes, and you'll probably be luckier trying to read them in japanese. Khazit 1 Quote
Okarin Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 Steins;Gate in particular deals with, what would happen if someone could reshape the past (and thus the present) and the temptations of such power- both represented in the antagonists and the protagonist. Quote
