Either way, I can't imagine their quality of releases was pretty good like how MG's releases are nowadays. Not quite. Their library got folded into Jast USA, like several other libraries of early companies that went under. They were originally like MangaGamer is now - a division of a Japanese conglomerate focused on English language releases. The original company folded shortly after Figures of Happiness released because their parent group - CD-Bros - all but collapsed. Peter Payne license rescued all of their titles (well, except the one with very loli characters). After a few years, "G-Collections" started releasing more games from Cd-Bros brands, but those were all done by Jast USA using G-Collections as a brand name. And no, their release quality was not very good. There was no community at the time. Tsukihime - the first real successful fan translation project - was being worked on around the time G-C was imploding. In the old days, you took the translators you could get. And many of the mainstream translators won't touch porn. The game I re-translated - Nocturnal Illusion - is about 6-7 years before G-C started; I'd still consider it in "generation 1" of localizations. Its translation was awful, and is fairly indicative of what to expect. Pomelo Posted April 17, 2018 Posted April 17, 2018 (edited) I'm neutral, ranging on iffy given some of their newer releases. I don't back anything in general, so I've never had a problem with that. The staff members I've spoken to at cons were quite friendly, and I like a lot of the VNs they've picked up. Their releases can be pretty unpolished, though, and I feel like they take on more than they can chew. (I'm definitely more of a MangaGamer fangirl lol) Edited April 17, 2018 by Pomelo Quote

Okarin Posted June 25, 2018 Posted June 25, 2018 Sekai brings good titles over here, so it's rather a "your life or your money" kind of situation. Quote

Actually Phantom Trigger is from Frontwing themselves though while this thread was talking about Sekai, but it's not like Frontwing method was different from Sekai anyway so it's still count here and moreso if we remember that thanks to Sekai that we got Grisaia franchise localized in the first place. For my answer here as of now I didn't have any intent to back this, and what I can comment on this is that I wonder when Frontwing will do their KS for Island (From what I understand, if Frontwing do the KS it mean that the release time is almost close, and therefore it should apply for Island as well). Fred the Barber Posted June 26, 2018 Posted June 26, 2018 (edited) This is the world's randomest location for a Phantom Trigger conversation, but I'll bite. I actually edited Phantom Trigger volume 5, so uhh, I might be just a tiny bit biased, but I'd encourage you to read the series. I hadn't read any of the previous volumes until I got the job, but I have now, and Phantom Trigger is actually pretty solid. Nothing amazing or earth-shattering, but good, solid fun. The first volume starts things off a bit slow, since it has so many characters to introduce and isn't all that long (they're all on the short side), so it doesn't really get much plot done, but the subsequent volumes have a good mix of introducing new characters, fleshing out backgrounds for the main characters (vol. 2 - Rena; 3 - Tohka, 4 - Chris, and now 5 is the last remaining of the original four girls, Murasaki), and slowly building up pieces of an overarching plot. The games are maybe 20% slice-of-life, 40% character development, and 40% action? I dunno, numbers made up and very subjective. At any rate, I had a lot of fun with it, so I hope people pick it up and give it a try. Edited June 26, 2018 by Fred the Barber Dreamysyu 1 Quote
