Not long ago Frontwing made a draft of a kickstarter for Island which mainly aims at giving people the opportunity to buy the physical version of the VN as well as the anime. Personally I hoped they would stop using kickstarters and rather have normal pre orders somewhere else though it seems like they will just stick to kickstarters. As for my comments on the kickstarter itself, well it seems okay for the most part I guess, though the anime is sold for japanese style prices which I find quite ridiculous. So what do other people think about Frontwing using kickstarter for the physical version of Island?

the bluray price on this Kickstarter is half of what it would cost in Japan

Maybe because they need a lot of money to develop those two, and therefore the only logical solution for them was to using KS perhaps? As for my comment here, I believe that Frontwing (FW) did learn from Sekai of how to exploit KS here. But at least I still give them some benefit compared to Sekai because at least FW didn't have many backlog compared to Sekai, although they still like to exploit Grisaia franchise though with Phantom Trigger and the serial releases of that.

Also in regard of FW I would like to cut them some slack anyway, especially if we know that FW was almost bankrupt back when they developed Grisaia, and they probably think that they should play safe through crowdfund. So I wouldn't sure what I want to say in regard of this, other than at least it's common knowledge that KS here is sort of pre order store for FW and Sekai, and in this case it's more prominent for FW because they did this when they already ready for Steam version release of Island (Obviously we won't need to worry about censored part here, because it's all age title in the first place).

Physical copies aren't exactly commercially feasible for a niche like this, unless there's a guarantee of some sort.
As far as I'm aware, Mangagamer only makes physical copies for games that have sold well, with many not getting any at all as a result. This is likely to ensure that the physical copies will sell and that they do not lose money through the game overall if they make them.
I actually don't know what JAST does. Huh. They are, however, externally financed by other stuff such as J-List.

And so, Frontwing finances the making of these physical copies through these kickstarters. If there's enough people willing to pay for the physical versions, then they can afford to make them without being at a loss.

Ye I know you are right, just a bit frustrating for me since I really like to have VNs physically and there are so many kickstarters that end up being very delayed, keeping myself far away from SP kickstarters at least. Really wish that VNs sold better especially physicals so this wouldn't be a problem anymore, but I guess that this is just the reality for now.

How has been the experience with physicals from Frontwing?
It seems they make one of these for all their titles now, which gives stuff a better chance at physicals than some other titles that may never get any such version due to low sales?

The only physicals I have backed/pre ordered from them is Grisaia complete box and Momoiro closet, neither of which are out yet so I can't really judge. Though from what I have seen they have had some problems with there being many delays though they do seem to now really focus on getting them out soon, at least based on their latest kickstarter updates. I will probably end up backing Island though so I will probably add that to my list.
