adamstan Posted December 31, 2020 Posted December 31, 2020 While reading Kono Aozora ni Yakusoku o for some reasons I remembered one silly song - "Highschool Lullaby" by Imokin Trio. It was a joke band from early '80s, meant as a parody of Johnny's boy-band groups. The song itself is from 1981, and it has pretty nice early electronic-disco sound, similar to YMO. It also features silly lyrics about highschool unrequited love And since it's New Year's Eve, I also did my take, to create a bit of party mood Plk_Lesiak 1 Quote
Noir Posted January 5, 2021 Posted January 5, 2021 Today I said goodbye to being a lesbian... How did I NOT fall for the heartthrob that is Joe Jonas back then???????? Quote
Plk_Lesiak Posted January 7, 2021 Posted January 7, 2021 Most of Akina Nakamori's songs hit Spotify and YouTube Music. This sure boosted my mood in this ugly, gloomy week. :3 Now, please excuse me while I go through this 170 track compilation... adamstan 1 Quote
adamstan Posted January 27, 2021 Posted January 27, 2021 (edited) This is preview of the new album from Yoko Matsuura, released on 2021-01-11. Yesterday the CD safely arrived in my mailbox, after crossing over 9000km I love it, it's really heartwarming and uplifting (I think I might have also fallen for her, even though I know it's rather pointless...) Plk_Lesiak Posted March 18, 2021 Posted March 18, 2021 So, Warner Music Japan apparently uploaded a whole bunch of Akina Nakamori concerts to YouTube. What's with those JP music companies not being stuck in the 90's all of the sudden? I'm not complaining, but it feels like a complete 180 as of late. adamstan 1 Quote
adamstan Posted May 27, 2021 Posted May 27, 2021 (edited) Yesterday I made a mixtape with '80s Japanese songs. Plk_Lesiak Posted May 28, 2021 Posted May 28, 2021 Among obscure Japanese musicians Punipunidenki is probably my favourite and this new track (dropped literally an hour ago) definitely reinforced that. :3 adamstan 1 Quote
adamstan Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 (edited) Among the cassettes I bought recently, apart from two great Akina Nakamori's albums, there was also "Kids Blue" by Ayumi Nakamura. Her voice needs a bit of getting used to but the songs are lovely. I know her by the song "Tomodachi" I heard on internet radio - it's a third song from the album: Lovely carefree retro vibe And as for Akina Nakamori - with each listen of her albums, I'm liking her more and more. She's true '80s goddess. Edited June 14, 2021 by adamstan Plk_Lesiak 1 Quote
Plk_Lesiak Posted July 12, 2021 Posted July 12, 2021 It's pretty hipster to listen to obscure Japanese pop in Poland... But is it hipster enough? Maybe we can go even deeper? Like... Indonesian pop? adamstan and Dreamysyu 1 1 Quote
adamstan Posted July 12, 2021 Posted July 12, 2021 (edited) Wow, those Indonesian songs were actually pretty nice But the melody of the second one sounded strangely familiar. Isn't it by chance cover of Japanese song? 1 hour ago, Plk_Lesiak said: Maybe we can go even deeper? Like, listening to Japanese pop from cassette? Today I've been listening to Akina Nakamori again Recently I alternate between her, Ayumi Nakamura and Halina Frąckowiak Edited July 12, 2021 by adamstan Plk_Lesiak 1 Quote

Isn't it by chance cover of Japanese song? I was suspecting it to be a cover but Yura is credited as the author for both melody and lyrics, so it's maybe just subtle(?) influences. Indonesian popculture in general seem pretty heavily influenced by Japanese stuff/going in similar direction over the years. Like, when I asked Ayunda Risu on a stream a few days ago if she has any music recommendation she said there's tons of Indonesian city pop-style music from the 80's. I only started digging into it, but there are even playlists on Spotify explicitly called that and the sounds are indeed pretty close. BTW, @littleshogun, do you have any ID music recs for us? adamstan 1 Quote

Now that's some interesting request here. That said, I didn't listen much Indonesian song on Youtube although obviously it didn't mean that I don't know some Indonesian songs. Anyway I suppose I'll just embed several Indonesian song collection here below, and have fun to listening all of it. Keep in mind that it's mostly mainstream Indonesian song here, and all of those songs are the old one. Edited November 24, 2022 by littleshogun Plk_Lesiak 1 Quote
Plk_Lesiak Posted July 24, 2021 Posted July 24, 2021 I like this band's vibe. There's something really endearing about it. :3 Quote
Plk_Lesiak Posted July 26, 2021 Posted July 26, 2021 Indonesian pop tends to be pretty simple, but it often has this very soothing quality to it... Quote
Plk_Lesiak Posted August 4, 2021 Posted August 4, 2021 (edited) The exploration of Indonesian 80s music (AKA "Indonesian City Pop") has begun! Fun fact, if "love" is ridiculously overused in English song titles, "Cinta" is triply so in ID music, to the point it's kind of ridiculous. Also, Ermy Kullit's greatest hit is called "Kasih"... Which also means "love". I guess there's no reason to over-complicate things... Edited August 4, 2021 by Plk_Lesiak adamstan 1 Quote
Plk_Lesiak Posted August 4, 2021 Posted August 4, 2021 Okay, this is the most 80s thing I've found so far. :3 Edit: This is Malaysian technically, but considering the language is virtually the same, I'm not surprised Spotify mix these in auto-generated playlists. adamstan 1 Quote
