    Fabulous on Fuwa - February!

    By Kaguya

Introduction   Welcome, fellow Fuwamembers, to the FuwaRecognition thread. Starting this March, we’ll be highlighting some of the best contributions made by our members each month. From snazzy blog articles to delicious forum threads, and perhaps even a few things more on the shitpost part of the spectrum, we'll keep an eye out for the cream of the crop. And then we'll gather them here. Just for you.   *holds up giant APPLAUSE sign*   A-hem, so this is the f

Random VNs: Kyonyuu Fantasy 3

The Kyonyuu Fantasy series is easily one of the weirdest series I’ve ever encountered.  On one side, you have what is clearly nukige levels of sexual content, with some of the most absurd h-scenes I’ve ever encountered, taking male breast-obsessions to new levels.  On the other side, you have startlingly detailed settings and interesting stories with protagonists who only seem weak on the surface. Kyonyuu Fantasy 3 is no exception to my experiences with the series.  When I started it, I w

Random VNs: Kyonyuu Fantasy 2if

Knonyuu Fantasy 2if is a remake of the original Kyonyuu Fantasy 2, with an apparently expanded narrative.  Having played the Digitalized Novel version of the original Kyonyuu Fantasy, which I loved, I found Kyonyuu Fantasy 2if to be very… familiar. To be blunt, everything in this VN is exactly like the first few chapters of that estimable game, with the easygoing, unambitious protagonist gaining political power and rising to the top over the course of the game… while having sex constantly

Luna Translations Weekly Update 10

Okay, here we go again. This is our 10th blog update, but it will be our last weekly update. Why's that? Giving weekly updates has been a hassle lately, because preogress is made every week but I'm left with no things to talk about, so after a debate in our group we ultimately decided to go for Bi-Weekly Updates (Except when important announcements have to be made). I'll start the rundown of things, this'll be a short one: Majo Koi Nikki So, the progress (as I said in the last upd

Eating Ramen with 'Izumi Curtis' Review

Visual Novel Translation Status (07/23/2016) I know that the woman beside Yuuji who eat ramen there wasn't Izumi Curtis from Fullmetal Alchemist (Hence the quotation). In fact her name was Kusakabe Asako, Yuuji's deceased master and actually from the spoiler that I read looks like Asako had shower some though love to Yuuji, just like Izumi to Elric brothers. Okay, enough my opinion about Asako here and let's review this week VNTS. To be honest, Afterglow here (The source VNTS picture) wasn'

Bishoujo Mangekyou TL Update 27

Quite a sluggish week this was. Aside from prologue patch 2.0, I nor the whole team didn't get that much done due to being busy, but nonetheless, getting the updated patch out was a huge accomplishment in and of itself, so I'm not really disappointed. Got some QC and editing done and that's about it; we're still fixing the remaining errors that the kicked editor manages to cause, but it's more or less done by this point, so no worries. Progress: Translation: 100% Editing

What Is Editing? (baby don't hurt me)

My blog posts so far have mostly been about how to edit. That holds true for most every other VN editing blog I've ever seen as well. But I'm a really big believer in approaching any significant task from a "Why, What, How" perspective. So now, let's try to answer those first two questions. Even "What Is Editing" would be starting in too far (it made for a better title, so sue me). Let's start with this: why do translation projects, or even original fiction projects like novels, have editor

Bishoujo Mangekyou - Mistakes were made and Prologue patch 2.0

Well, as most of you know by now, I completely obliterated all the links concerning BiMan1's prologue patch. This was because of two reasons: Because it was terrible in every possible way to put it frankly. In order to make room for this post. The prologue patch was bad, really bad. The sentences were akward, spacing was weird, translations at some points didn't even make sense, etc, etc. That's why I've been fixing the first quarter of the script; retranslating, modifying and

Random Vns: Valkyrie Complex

.... I finally finished this one.  It has been installed on my computer for the better part of three years, with me only going back to play it occasionally... This VN/srpg hybrid is by Circus, the same company that did Suika and the Da Capo series... so obviously, this kind of VN is completely out of character for them, lol.  I'm going to be blunt... this VN pales in comparison to just about every decent hybrid I've played, both storywise and gameplay wise.  The best thing I can say for the

Chaos;Head Love Chu☆Chu! Translation Project. Looking for Translators!

Chaos;Head Love Chu☆Chu! Position to Fill: Translator  Hello! We are currently looking for translators who would like to help translate LoveChuChu to English. As I'm just someone able to hack in and change the text I sadly can'y fulfill this role. The hacking side of things has been completed so we are currently at a stand still on the project. Attached below is a link to the project thread.   If you're interested please drop me a line! If you can only work for a certai

Busy and a preview of July's releases

... exactly how many times have I mentioned that I'm busy lately...?  Seriously.  I'm in the middle of VN withdrawal for the first time in over three years... and I'm realizing how addicted I am.  I'd be perfectly happy to play a kusoge for the second time, at the moment... if I had the time.  The best I can do these days is drop in for a few minutes and maybe a quick post or two.  Considering that I originally started this style of work because it made me enough money in a short enough per

Adventures In Textual Analysis

Sometimes, something lands on your plate that makes no sense. If you're lucky, it may be a single line that makes no sense as it is written, but you can figure it out and fix it from context. If you're unlucky, it might be a whole passage that doesn't fit together quite right, or something that just doesn't hang together to present a consistent plot. As the editor, it's your responsibility to turn that line or passage into something that makes sense. Sometimes you can manage it yourself with eno

Luna Translations Weekly Update 9

What up people. I'm here again with the spicy weekly news as always.  Majo Koi Nikki Translation progress has recuperated now, since @Hasa is back again with full force. Alice's route is progressing as well as Mii's and the second part of the prologue after the OP. Regarding the partial patch, it's basically finished at this point (just some buttons left to translate and we're good to go). We decided to delay its release date. Sorry about that, but shit happens. Editing progress

Attack on BETA: Before the Fall Review

Visual Novel Translation Status (07/16/2016) For your info I was type this at the tab, so forgive me for some shortcoming here. Anyway, as for the title because we had Muv Luv released, and the sequel (Alternative) was happened to be inspiration for hit manga Attack on Titan, so I decided go to use title Attack on BETA (Since Attack on Titan also had prequel titled Before the Fall, so I decided to use the same title, although the picture for title inspiration was girls from Muv Luv playing

Bishoujo Mangekyou TL Update 26

(Still a Work In Progress) This week I was busier than in a long time with the project. First, I must apologise. When I released the prologue patch I was sure that everything from the engine to the buttons would've been translated, and according all common sense it was the case... until I revisited it this week. Let me give you a short version. I resumed my work on the engine since there were a few quirks I wanted straightened out. So I finished my work and gave the interface patc

Random VNs: Shin Koihime Eiyuutan

Shin Koihime Eiyuutan is something of an alternate fandisc for Shin Koihime, including characters from the 'extra materials' that have come out over the years and a canon story flow from the original that seems to be based on Kazuto somehow being on all three sides at once during the wars (lol).  To be honest, for consistency, Moeshouden was much better, because it uses the Gaishi setting to explain everything, lol.  Having played all three, I can safely say that it is a very satisfying aft

Writing more powerful sentences

Last time I talked about trade-offs in editing and high-level motifs; macro-scale stuff. This time, I want to talk about a micro-scale topic: how to make an individual line better. As before, I'll be demonstrating this with examples drawn from recent editing experience. Before writing this post, I went around looking for other people talking about similar things, and I found this reference: http://kristensguide.com/Writing/powerful_sentences.asp. Frankly, it's great; probably better than what I

Nightingale-sama ga Miteru Review

Visual Novel Translation Status (07/09/2016) For this week VNTS Review title, I'd already came up with it from Hakuai release announcement back at June iirc, before it got delayed. The title was meant to parodying Marimite shoujo ai anime here, and the Nightingale was because there was an award called Nightingale in Hakuai games. Anyway, welcome to my VNTS Review for this week, and I think for this week I will also trying to elaborate on Decay thought here (By the way, it was me that postin

Bishoujo Mangekyou TL Update 25

Time for another update, actually on Saturday for once. Nothing special happened this week, QC isn't perpetually in an Ice Age any longer, and got a nice nump in progress, but there has been no editing this week, sadly. Aizen-sama, the guy who you might know from MajoKoi and WG translation projects is now QC'ing this project, so steady progress in that front should be secured now. Now I just need to do something about steady editing progress. Anyways, progress: Translati

Luna Translations Weekly Update 8

What up, everyone. Here we go with the 8th weekly update. Welp, two months may have passed but the progress done until now has been pretty nice if I say so myself. This week has been rather slow, so I apologize for that. We have recruited our twentieth member, @Torky who will help us in the Majo Koi Team as a Translator to fill our current MIA (but that will definitely be back, work issues don't let them be with us atm) translators, which are @Hasa and @RaurosFalls. On a side and personal note,

Other Oddball Punctuation in VNs: A Final Roundup

It's sad but true: we've finally come to the end of our tour of Japanese punctuation for VN editors. But before we bid adieu, there are a few more types we have yet to cover. None merit full blog posts, however, so I offer them up here in a bit of a punctuation grab bag. Reach in if you dare. The placeholder:  〇 The 〇 is typically used to censor offensive language by replacing one of the characters in a word. It's the equivalent of writing "f*ck" or "sh-t" or in English. Tsui Yuri translation project - 50% translated!

We just hit 50% translation! Yaay! I just wrapped up the translation of Futaba's good ending last night, (fought through some H-scenes... ) And here we are!   So with this, we are officially halfway there. It's a pretty good feeling. Although the actual line count hasn't changed that much since last week, just seeing the "50%" makes me feel awesome     I wanted to do something a bit special for the halfway mark, so I'm going to talk a bit about the game firs
