    Fabulous on Fuwa - February!

    By Kaguya

Introduction   Welcome, fellow Fuwamembers, to the FuwaRecognition thread. Starting this March, we’ll be highlighting some of the best contributions made by our members each month. From snazzy blog articles to delicious forum threads, and perhaps even a few things more on the shitpost part of the spectrum, we'll keep an eye out for the cream of the crop. And then we'll gather them here. Just for you.   *holds up giant APPLAUSE sign*   A-hem, so this is the f

Crusoe Had it Easy! VN Review!

The game is short with only a handful of decisions, but has lots of cheats and endings. Half of the endings involve forcing yourself onto the girl, while in the other half nothing happens. There are also romantic endings available. There is no music, only atmospheric background tracks. The writing is quirky, but relies too much on pop culture references. For example, after a wardrobe malfunction, you get a Janet Jackson reference. The jokes can be pretty lame. You can customize the experience to

Shinimasu TL notes: Enhanced Edition #1

I wrote earlier about how I thought when translating a few lines in Shinimasu. This series is going to be in that vein, with an eye to explaining translation decisions and highlighting unusual takes. I’m going to try to make it interesting for people not knowing Japanese, but to save effort I’m not going to be providing literal translation equivalents to lines. Why am I doing this? Because my brain is a fuck and producing blog posts is an interesting motivation for doing a second pass on my tra

Random VN: Komorebi no Nostalgica

Yes, it is another Takaya Aya game... to be specific, his joint work with Morisaki Ryouto (known for his sci-fi bent and work with Applique).  This work is also considered to be one of his penultimate masterpieces, which is ironic, since the company he created got bought out almost immediately after this game was released, hahaha.   Anyway, Komorebi no Nostalgica was one of two contenders for my VN of the Year 2013 and lost out to Hapymaher.  However, given how Hapymaher has proven somewhat

VN of the Month December 2007 - Dies irae

Dies irae is VN of the Month. Oh, well, now there won't be intrigue about VN of the Year. Himawari is another masterpiece. For review I chose Love & Dead by LiarSoft in hope for absurdist comedy. 1. Fair Child [071214] ALcot 1 Pure and fair, I wanna deliver this feeling. Kazuki's parents passed away when he was a kid. But he lives a peaceful life at his aunt's house, and somehow enjoys it with Kotori, his cousin, and Kokoro, his friend. He hopes thi

Master Magistrate Full-Version Review

https://j-addicts.de/master-magistrate/ After a couple months of wait, the full version of Master Magistrate was released! This review is an update of my early-access review. I removed or corrected outdated information, polished my thoughts a little and added my thoughts on the final chapter and the epilogue. Master Magistrate is a pretty cool murder mystery detective visual novel with a historical setting. You'd be hard pressed to find something quite like it, the closest would probabl

VN of the Month November 2007 - Demon Parasite ~Akuma no You na Tenshi no Kanojo~

Wow, there are as many as six masterpieces this month - Aster , Kira☆Kira , Sekai de Ichiban Dame na Koi , Sekien no Inganock -What a Beautiful People- , Soshite Ashita no Sekai yori , Demon Parasite ~Akuma no You na Tenshi no Kanojo~ . I'm choosing the last one as VN of the Month, and will explain this choice in its review. 1. Aster [071109] RusK 1 2 3 4 Aster tells the story of four young men, whose lives are connected by one incident. Adabana: Big Mismatch in Japanese Folktales Review

Welcome to this week VNTS Review, and as for this week I think I can say that it's still an active one like last week with two (Short) VNs being released by Aniplex back at 19th. Other than Aniplex VNs, we also have some updates from both fan translation and Sekai along with two sudden VNs releases. Overall while I did say that this week is still an active one, it's slightly less compared to the last week. Anyway let's see what I can write for this week, and I'll explain the title at PS later.

Clephas' top AI/robot/android/etc heroines

This is a list of my favorite artificial (non-magical) heroines.  The reason I thought this up was because I am currently replaying Komorebi no Nostalgica, which is pretty much the top for an AI-focused VN.   Emmy from Akabanzu  https://vndb.org/c42670 Akabanzu itself is an unusual game in that it is a charage focused on a protagonist being forcibly rehabilitated from game addiction.  The AI in this game, Emmy, focuses on a support role, which makes for a surprisingly interesting (and

nothing & nowhere (Western VN Review)

Note: I was provided with a review copy of the game by the developer. To talk about the latest slice-of-life VN by ebi-hime, nothing & nowhere, we have to start in a less-than-obvious place. Nearly two years ago I made an overview ebi’s freeware games and one of the most memorable and unique of them was Lynne: a heavily stylized, pixelart horror game about a teenager crumbling under the pressure from her dysfunctional family and societal expectations she's unable to truly meet. Full of

Random VN: Semiramis no Tenbin

Semiramis no Tenbin is a game by Caramel Box, best known in the West for the Otoboku series but who is more generally famous in Japan for being the home of Takaya Aya, one of the better writers in the industry.  This game... is unique.  I say this outright because there literally is no other VN like this.  It isn't the characters or the themes that make it unique (though those are part of it), but rather the sheer impact of Takaya Aya's 'side trip into thinking like a chuunibyou patient' as he p

Xvain エクスヴァイン ~Devil Out~ [Studio e.go!]

Foreword: Why is there only like two Japanese reviews for a game with this classy setting? The Japanese must have overlooked another great game, and I'm restoring it to due glory. Or so I thought. Synopsis:  There is a city filled with crime. The police can do nothing, and a big conspiracy is now being planned. To protect his beloved, Rex rises up... He has a secret that he is actually a battle hero, Xvain. His decision to use his power is triggered by meeting with

VN of the Month October 2007 - Boku ga Sadame Kimi ni wa Tsubasa o.

Boku ga Sadame Kimi ni wa Tsubasa o. is VN of the Month. I'm reviewing it as well as Xvain ~Devil Out~. There is another masterpiece this month - Happy Margaret! 1. Ar Tonelico II ~Sekai ni Hibiku Shoujo-tachi no Metafalica~ アルトネリコ2 世界に響く少女たちの創造詩(メタファリカ) [071010] Gust 1 2 3 Taking place in the desolate land of Metafalss, a tiny continent built upon the rim of a tower much like the first game's Ar tonelico, it revolves around two opposed factions: the ruling Grand Bell, whic

Turnabout Magical Girl Review

Welcome to this week VNTS Review and sorry for being late here. As for this week I think I can say that this week is quite an active one with three official releases along with three release date announcements, and of course the updates from both of Sekai and Mangagamer. Overall I did find that the week is quite satisfying, and let's see what I can write about that below. No much update from fan translation, but at least we still have some Alka update. For Alka's update, we have Kud Wafter

Tsurugi Otome Noah 剣乙女ノア [Tail Wind]

Foreword: It's the only fantasy battle game of the month, so it's a natural choice to play. Synopsis:  The main character is Haruto, a soldier. One day, he loses his life during a battle. To get back to life, he'll need to get the energy of other people. However, it's hard to do so.... Just when he gives up, Noah and Firia stop him. They decide to offer their bodies to him.... Visual Novels are a Hot Medium

Firstly, by “Hot” I mean purely in the Mcluhanistic sense of the word. Though I think we all acknowledge that VNs can be a very “hot” medium in the erotic sense as well. But seriously speaking, VNs are a hot, highly intensive medium; and this is precisely why I see so much artistic potential in them even if relatively few as of yet have fully capitalized on this potential. To provide a brief definition of hot and cold media I think the simplest explanation is the more immersive a medium is

Steins;Gate and Your Inner Child

Spoilers for Steins;Gate ahead!  As far as I'm aware, most deeper discussions of Steins;Gate revolve around one of two of its more obvious central aspects. On one hand its time travel mechanics tend to get picked apart a lot, with arguments about whether they make sense, if Rintarou basically destroying whole timelines renders the plot meaningless, and so on. On the other hand its theme of the dangers of humans playing god gets brought up a lot, pointing to how you cannot create an outcome

8665^2 Haruruko no Jijou 8665^2 ハルルコのジジョウ [Rune]

Foreword: There have been a lot of H parodies of Haruhi Suzumia, but this one seems to be a mild absurdist parody developing on the themes of the anime. Or do I expect too much from a game by Rune? Synopsis:  Akio is an ordinary uni student. But, there is one thing different from others. That is his great olfactory system. He somehow hides it, and lives a peaceful life. One day, Haruruko, his classmate, finds it, and his life suddenly turns around 180 degrees... Yout

Why I dropped Tenmei no Conquista

Normally, considering how far I got into this game, I would have just kept going (I got halfway through, literally).  However, it needs to be said that I only kept going in hopes the game would get more interesting as things went on. The answer was no. This game uses a system that draws partially from the early Fire Emblem games, partially from the Disgaea series by NIS, and partly is drawn from other Eushully games.  The Fire Emblem elements include the basic 'flow' of strategy rpg ba
