  2. The first few hours are pure fucking pain, but then something clicks, and then it has ruined all other games for you. I'm serious, I've met several people who've said that, even one of the people I'm subscribed to on YouTube.

  3. This list won't feature the VNs in order of "how good they are". Rating them would be way too much of a clusterfuck to me. The VNs are not in their respective order. Meaning number 1 is not the best, and so on. 1_CHAOS; HEAD 2_Cross Channel 3_G-Senjou no Maou 4_Fate/Stay Night 5_Forest This Visual Novel is the easiest visual novel translated to get a bad ending without using a walkthrough- which just adds to the fun of it. It makes a massive amount of references to common literature, which makes it even better. 6_Katahane It may seem like an ordinary moege- the atmosphere is light, the story is full of cuteness, which you can note by the character design and soundtrack. It gets really good in the middle, and you'll be dying to know what happens in the end. A game with multiple perspectives, it's definitely one of the most enjoyable Visual Novels I've ever read. 7 Majikoi 8_Little Busters! 9_Tsukihime "You shouldn't tell lies that you can't even fool yourself with" 10_Swan Song A post apocalyptic Visual Novel. 11_Symphonic Rain It may seem like your ordinary moege. Trust me, it's not. 12_Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shoujo (and sequel) 13_Sekien no Inganock Steampunk. An atmosphere full of mysteries and references that will make your head blow up. 14_Steins; Gate A visual novel that deals extensively with time travel and it's consequences. 15_Utawarerumono 16_Fault: Milestone (1 & 2) 17_Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni 18_Kara no Shoujo 19_Umineko no Naku Koro ni 20_Planetarian 21_Ever 17 Another top 10. 22_Remember11 It lacks in the ending, but otherwise the story of this VN has enough to easily become one of my all-time favorites. 23_Zanmataisei Demonbane 24_Rewrite "Could it possibly be rewritten, this fate of hers?" Another one that enters the top 10. 25_Narcissu 26_Grisaia no Kajitsu 27_Saya no Uta Only if you enjoy dark and messed up settings. 28_Higanbana no Saku Yoru ni 29_Eien no Aselia 30_Rose Guns Days (1 & 2) There are small sections of gameplay on this one, but you can skip them by pressing the space bar, so this still qualifies. 31_Sengoku Rance I feel obliged to comment on this VN before suggesting it to anyone. It's an Alicesoft title, which speaks a lot for itself... If you don't know how it's going to be like, well.. Kind of tough to describe. Lots of sex, including comedy rape. Alicesoft tends to make the whole story a comedy until right near the end, where things actually do get serious. It's worth checking out, if you don't mind Rance's personality. 32_Phenomeno Want a short VN that can captivate you for their whole duration? Here is it. Visual novel adapted from the youth horror novel written by Hajime Ninomae and illustrated by yoshitoshi ABe. 33_Ef- A Fairy Tale of the Two 34_Dysfunctional Systems Another one great for those who want short Visual Novels. 35_Daibanchou Another Alicesoft title. While Rouga is not near Rance's level when it comes to pissing off people, alicesoft's style is something which often doesn't please people. 36_Yume Miru Kusuri The endings pack quite a punch. 37_Kikokugai- The Cyber Slayer 38_Eden 39_Hoshizora no Memoria 40_Katawa Shoujo Yep, it's somewhat overrated. Still, the fact that it is substantially easier for those who are starting to play visual novels to read should not be discarded, and overall, the story was good. 41_World End Economica 42_YU-NO 43_Shikkoku no Sharnoth Yep, there is a minigame on this one. If you download a save data you can skip the minigame, though. So it still qualifies. Another VN that enters my top 10. 44_Muv Luv Alternative The first Muv Luv didn't have enough to enter this list. You should still read it, though~ MLA is definitely awesome. 45_Dangan Ronpa 46_Comyu - Kuroi Ryuu to Yasashii Oukoku 47_Hanachirasu 48_Ayakashibito 49_I/O 50_Deardrops

    Shuffle!

Shuffle! Licensed by YumeHaven Shuffle! follows the romantic life of Tsuchimi Rin a Japanese high schooler, who finds himself being sought after by a variety of girls. The world of Shuffle! consists of humans living in harmony with gods and devils. Despite their respective positive and negative connotations, both races are equally kind and good-natured. Your task is to choose a lover from the five girls the game offers. This story takes place in an average town in an average country. Two families move next door to the home of an average young man who lived his days in peace. One was the family of the King of the Gods and the other was the family of the King of the Devils. Both Kings came to fulfill their daughter's wish: to live next to the young man whom they've loved every since the fateful day they first met. "The man who can become either God, Devil, or Man", as his friend calls him with cynicism and envy, sets out on his new life full of turmoil, despair, and faint hope. The main character of the game is Rin Tsuchimi, a student at Verbana Academy, a national school which various races attend. Rin is a student at Verbana Academy, a national school which various races attend. His parents died when he was still a child and now he lives with his childhood friend Kaede. Rin is very patient, but he can't bear to see anyone suffer. Although his life was always peaceful, the sudden appearance of two princesses has made him the center of attention throughout the school. ***Ending Guide*** There are five main girl routes in Shuffle! There is no forced order for the routes and you can play which ever of the girls you like. However,to unlock Primula's route, you must complete Nerine's route first . They are all fun. Here is a detailed walkthrough for each. UPDATE: This Walkthrough was originally for the Mangagamer version of the game. The YumeHaven version has extra content, and it is possible the choices may vary a bit. ***Route Walkthrough*** Kaede Lisianthus Nerine Asa ***Bonus Routes*** You must complete Nerine's Route before you can get to Primula's Route. 5. Hey all, So I wanted to make some signature badges for the Cocoro@Function! stream viewers, and I need the community's help to do this. I was hoping someone could assist me in creating something that reflects the VN's game style in a unique way, and marks me and everyone else as a fellow stream follower. If anyone is willing to create something of this caliber, please let me know. To give you an idea how I want this done, here are some guidelines to follow: You are creating a small badge that is able to be used in a signature. When I say the term badge, I mean a small signature icon of sorts that is easily attachable to another signature without the hassle of changing it entirely. It shouldn't be larger than a normal signature in terms of height but should still be easily identifiable The badge itself should reflect the colors and theme of the game. If you are confused as to the style used in the game, check some screenshots on Google or simply ask me There should be a total of 3 unique badges: one for myself, one for Mephisto, and one for every other stream viewer. For my badge, feel free to make it slightly different than the others, but the main difference I want on mine is for it to label me as the "Entertainer." In Mephisto's badge case, he would be the "Translator." The rest of the badge design is completely up to you Needless to say, not everyone will want to use these badges, and I'm okay with that. Still, if you want to help out I would be greatly appreciative of your time in the matter. Thanks again guys!

  6. I personally tend to enjoy even mediocre sex scenes somewhat due to my unashamedly perverted nature, but certainly, there's a general lack of quality in them in vns. What are the best sex scenes you can remember from a vn, and why? Personally, I think the three different scenes in LEAVEs were all pretty good. Might be partly due to having a godlike translator... Anyway, they are both tied in well with the plot, and pretty arousing too, while avoiding at least the worst of what I consider lame japanese porn tropes.

  7. But the fact that everything is really up to the reader is yet another factor that makes it a great vn, you could discuss it for days.

  9. Not just her but the blonde girl as well. There's also original characters that only appear in Essence + Essence + has 11 heroines as oposed to Shuffle that only has 5. The extra routes are: Kikyou (Sia's twin) Mayumi (Two toned eye girl) Kareha (Asa's friend) Tsubomi (Kareha's sister) Sakura (Osananajimi) Nadeshiko (Teacher) Daisy (Mysterious loli) This is why I eagerly hope Essence + gets a translation.

  10. Out. Now. Wonder if they'll ever do the Shuffle Essence +. I really wanted to see the extra heroines, particularly Mayumi, not fandisks of the current ones. But nonetheless I'll check it out, seems more worth it than Tick Tack at least.

  12. I wouldn't entirely agree with this due to the H scenes in Saya no Uta and Fate/stay night. Those two games actually do manage to incorporate certain plot elements into their H scenes and I thought they were pretty interesting. I actually liked them for something other than their direct sex content (I didn't even like the sex in Saya since the art didn't really fit my preferences).

  15. Hello I've been a member for 2 months now but haven't made a proper introduction. So without further adieu, lets start. I'm forum, pleased to meet you guys. Initially, I just joined for the sake of communication with Walkure team and I'm currently an editor there btw. I enjoy reading VNs casually when I'm bored or want a change of pace. I also have no particular preference and read anything as long as its interesting. I dunno what to say anymore so that is all.

  16. For guys, it's Moro. For girls, I think Wanko or Miyako. As for light hearted games, if you want some yuri (lesbian) ones, you could try the Hanabira series. Very sweet series. P.S. Welcome back, Salmon, you glorious bastard.

  17. As most people have suggested, try and start with VNs that are satisfying after finishing 1 route, and go from there. The easier it is to gain closure without having to go through multiple routes, the better. After that, work your way up to the longer games.

  34. Playing the demo right now First impressions: Was surprised to see it was a Ren'Py engine game. Nonetheless it has had more effort than your average Ren'Py novel. Options menu rather limited. Particularly the volume sliders. The text has this sound effect while it reveals and to me it's annoying and there's no way to turn it off as far as I can figure out. Also there is no log option so I can't go back and read stuff. When I started a new game it seemed to be on auto for some reason which was annoying considering I couldn't get parts of the text and there's no log option to go back and check. Another thing is I don't see the point in having all the options under the text box and then having all the options again when you right click. A bit reduntant and needless to me. Would be better just to use right click and remove the options on the bottom entirely It has a BEAUTIFUL soundtrack. Even the menu's soundtrack is great. Whoever composed this is a genius, really gives you a nice ambient feeling, I want more soundtracks like these! If you're thinking about trying the demo, do it with headphones, I'm serious. Animations are slightly clunky but honestly judging from the fact it's made on Ren'Py they are more than acceptable. CGs are also animated by the way not just normal character sprites Very Zero Escape based just like the description mentioned. You can interact with the environment and collect items and change the prespective just like in 999 or Virtue's Last Reward However the fact that the game is made on Ren'Py shows its flaws, there's some lag issues particulary with the puzzle GUI (yes there's a puzzle GUI!) as well as some clunkyness but it's not game breaking. This actually made me impressed of Ren'Py's capabilities. I had never thought this engine was capable of making puzzles. These are just my intial thoughts. I'm actually getting into the demo itself. The story is very mysterious right now and I really want to find out more about everything. Very captivating. Will keep playing and I advice you to as well.

  35. Have you played thier translation of if my heart had wings? They did much more than just take out h-scenes. They got rid of every dirty joke and all the kissing scenes. They didnt just get rid of the h-scenes, they got rid of all the romance. Not too mention the translation was so poorly edited it was pretty much unreadable. Thank god some awesome people on this site decided to make a patch to fix it,
    1 point
  36. There's removing H-scenes and there's removing any kind of hint of romance, kiss scenes, sexual humor, and basically everything a VN could offer you, along with broken english. They used the latter with Kono Oozora.

    Tick! Tack!

Tick! Tack! Licensed by MangaGamer Summary The game is the first sequel to Navel's first game, Shuffle!, continuing Nerine's path. Route Guideline Nerine Good End Red Nerine Good End Little Nerine Good End Sage Good End Ai Good End Scene Collection #1 #2 #3 #4 #5 #6 Attribution This walkthrough is based on info attained on Mangagamer.org with some adjustments made by me.

  38. This And aside from that 1 Cute characters 2 Slice of life 3 Comedy 4 School setting 5 A lot of romance and drama 6 Lolis 7 Some supernatural elements 8 An Imouto character (don't care if blood related or not) preferably if they're lolis! 9 A lot of heroines, not just a couple of them, and with some deep back story to them 10 Great art 11 Doesn't get tedious midway, there's always something you want to keep finding out as you read 12 Has other things to do besides reading , like mini games 13 Has good voice acting, preferably fully voiced 14 Choices shouldn't be THAT obvious and in your face (eg: Pick This for ending 1 or That for ending 2) I guess that describes it.

    Are routes necessary?

Wait a moment, mass effect has multiple endings!?!?!? A game that is a little close to how visual novels can tell multiple stories might be Witcher 2, you make a decision at a certain point and the game is completely different, in different zones etc, so there are basically 2 routes in there. That is meaningful choice, not what they offer in other games. Some games at least offer you a decision close to the ending, whether it is like in KOTOR 1, or only a button press like in Deus Ex, but what I would like to see are decisions in games that change the game in half and then offer you another 10 or 15 hours of unique story for each decision, just like VNs do. And as for linear plot, why not, there is tons of games like that already, just look at most of the games in last 5 years or so, it is linear plot with cutscenes and other cinematics. What we are lacking is game with meaningfull choices, not just offer illusion of choice like games often do. As for visual novels, I like kinetic novels too (planetarian, rin ga utau etc), they are awesome but they are different from multiple route VNs, the way they feel is different and that's why it is good to have both, choosing a girl isn't just about wanting to romance her, it is trying to explore and investigate her world, her problems and experience an unique story with her, its very much about the character development inside and then you see how she changes or how even the protagonist changes. That's why in the Kinetic Novels I played there is only 1 heroine you, because it would be extremely hard to explore the character of multiple heroines in linear story, what would you do, break up with the previous one? Or just not be as close to her and still help her, but then you wouldn't see so much inside her. If you played Hoshimemo, imagine Mokoko (komomo ;P) route like that, how would you solve her problem without making her dere from tsun first. Or in little busters how would you solve Mio's problem without getting this close to her. There certainly is a possibility to do this but I think this replaying the game for unique story not affected by the endings of previous stories works very well and for linear stories, single heroine works the best.
