If there's a bridge of weirdos in Majikoi... then here's a thread of weirdos.4 points

Thank you. Seriously guys i get that some of you are worried and rightfully so, however you're already imagining worst case scenarios based off of thin air. That is not right in any way. This person was honest about the situation and you just bashed him assuming things on your own. Wether what you say is going to be true or not, i find it really disrespectful to come at someone like that when there's no example of his work. You don't know what it's going to be like so you can't just assume things on your own I can't imagine how the OP feels after reading such discouraging words. You're literally bringing him down before he even gets to try and prove himself. I honestly want to lock this thread but this is just my personal opinion here so i won't act based on that but this seriously made me mad. Come on guys be a little reasonable.3 points

Aiyoku no Eustia Translation Announcement
Cyrillej1 and 2 others reacted to Chronopolis for a topic
Well if the other two translators and TLC are qualified, well then *that* is fine. That's not the problem. If you admit (and he admits) that his Japanese is not up to stretch, then he shouldn't be translating. A TLC's job is to double check for the TL and to make sure the post-editor lines are still accurate; it's not to mark and correct a consistently spotty translation. Neither the TLC nor other TL's can prevent the hit to quality caused by an incompetent translator, short of translating the lines in question themselves. Anyways, I think Rooke recognizes this as well, but he's like 1) The translation might have some merits (e.g. good writing), and there are quite a number people who will enjoy it. I don't think multi-TLing is bad, only: a ) you want to keep things consistent b ) every TL has to be competent Stawp that. The fact that someone is unable or unwilling to take on an task doesn't take away their freedom to criticize other people's attempts at that task. Depending on your standards, it's also reasonable to believe that below a certain point, doing something that badly becomes unacceptable. It's not particularly friendly to tell someone to be grateful for something they find unacceptable. ----- So I've seen the debate of allowing/supporting "bad translations/projects" versus criticizing and opposing them pop up from time to time, and have been wanting to take a stab at sorting this out. Some people tolerate or support all translation projects, largely independent of the quality. I'll call this a laissez faire to translation projects (not particularly concerning oneself with the quality). On the flip side, you have people who would rather not have these poor quality translations occur. Of course, you can't physically stop the group from doing it, so the alternate options are: a) criticizing the group, in a hope in convincing the project members or other community members; b-) complaining about such groups (distinguished by a lack of significant purpose or an attempt to convince); c) vitriol and slander (whether the original accusation is true or false); or d) investigating and pointing out bad translation works. {Note that B, C, D are 4chan's VNTL translation thread} Now this post isn't about what people do on either sides of the stance, it's the reasoning behind the laissez faire stance or it's counterpart. From posts in this thread and elsewhere, I've picked up on 3 angles of debate. 1) Differing views of the Value of a Product: "Why would you spend so much time working on something to produce a product which I judge to be of little to no value (based on one or more factors). Based on my hand-wave reasoning/intuition, this is not really valid. People value things differently. Asking that is like asking "Why do you see things so differently?". This is the primary reason for supporting laissez faire translations (not particularly concerning oneself with the quality). If people want to take on the translation (various reasons: e-fame, perceived contributing back to the community, wanting to utilize their Japanese or other skills), and other people want to play the game, then who is anyone to stop them? 2) Repercussions: A bad translation most likely *will* kill any possible chances for a good translation down the road. I think this is generally accepted as true. With that in mind: "Even if you stop this translation from going ahead there's no guarantee that the next one will be any better (the previous one by Yandere looked pretty bad as well, for example.)" This argument won't deter someone in the following (possible valid) mindset. If only one release can happen and I see one that is unacceptable by my standards, I'll oppose it for sure and take my chances with the next one. If I think unacceptable = not worth doing = enough of a waste of time to be worse than not doing it at all, then the possibility of having the translation never be done doesn't deter me either. As a side note, the odds are probably pretty good that Eustia will get a translation within the next 5 years. 3) Literature integrity: First of all, I think it's safe to say that the majority of us believe that VN's have artistic or literary merit. Here's one of the two stances: "I'm respecting the literature that the author put out. This is not a debate about intellectual property rights, it's a debate about respect for the arts." Honestly, I haven't seen any one state their reason for an opposite stance on this front. There's probably not a whole lot of room to argue against on this one. If the people releasing the a bad translation misrepresent it as "good" and representative of the original work, then that's unacceptable for most people, I think. As a side note, the people who would do bad translations are more prone to misjudging their capabilities. No group releases their patch calling it a bad translation. Even in the face of being pointed out, it's understandably difficult for the team members to acknowledge that, much less publicly renounce the fact. Overall it's not the most pleasant situation for both sides (this would fall under "repercussions"). If people for some don't learn that a certain translation they read was bad, and think the bad translation is representative of the original work, then that's definitely unfair to the original author. Whether this is unfairness is unacceptable or not, I don't know what people think about this. Note that people might discuss what they read and the popular (flawed) opinion might arise that is unfair to the original author. If most readers are aware of that the translation is bad (it should be widely known to fall under this case), then they know at least that the translation isn't representative of the original work, though they won't be people to know *where* the inaccuracies are. They might be less quick to judge the original author. However, I argue that people are still going to attach their perception of the translated work heavily to the original. Firstly, people are going to judge anyways because expressing one's opinion (on a work) is a pretty common thing to do, and you're not going to disclaimer everything you say or think with the the thought that sections could be wrong. It's easy to forget that a bad translation could possibly affect every part of the VN (you don't know as the reader). I think it's also disheartening to: feel that the game one has had the chance to read (and enjoyed) bears a bad translation, and is inferior because of it. confront the fact that the one's perception of the game is probably negatively impacted by the translation and any verdicts one makes is through that translucent screen. As a result, I think in practice people don't give relatively much thought regarding a bad translation they knowingly read and judge. So the end result is largely the same (unfair to the author). In conclusion, I believe that Angle 1) are the primary reason why people would support laissez faire translations (not particularly concerning oneself with the quality of every translation). Angle 2 and 3 are basically all demerits to this stance. Namely, one would believe that the enjoyment held by the persons involved outweighs the closing of that VN to a possible good translation or any literary injustice. I think both stances are valid, but I get the feeling of inconsistencies creeping into some posts. TLDR: If you support X, consider your stances and the logic that would finally arrive at you supporting X. Make sure you are clear on what you disagree with. That's my two cents, anyways.3 points -

Reflections on Fuwa
Shiroyasha and one other reacted to OriginalRen for a topic
Visual novels for the world... It's funny, isn't it? Fuwanovel's infamous mission statement...ya know, sometimes I stop and think to myself just how powerful those words really are. To some, they are just words plastered on a page to make it look good, but to others they have a much deeper meaning. When I first discovered this website a few months ago, I too like many of you came here for a purpose, a purpose that may have had little to no meaning whatsoever. Perhaps I came here to download a visual novel, or maybe I just wanted to read about the release date of some translation. It wasn't until I stopped to really read the purpose of this community that I started to realize what Aaeru was trying to create. Those 5 words...to me, no, to everyone, those words speak something. They aren't there for show, but rather they are there to remind us that this community is in itself the representation of many cultures from around the world. We form relationships with those around us no matter our differences and interests and unite under one banner to show everyone on the outside that we are brothers and sisters in arms. To us, those words speak a truth, and it is because of them that we continue pushing forward like we do. You may ask yourself, why am I writing this post? I am not running this show as a staff member, nor am I really of any importance seeing as I am just another cog in the wheel, so why bother? To answer that, let me ask you a question instead: why do you come here? For some, we may answer something as simple as "I love visual novels," but when you really stop and think about it, it's more than that. We are family, and Fuwanovel is a home to many of us. No matter our interest, no matter our race, no matter our language, we come here because we separate useless boundaries and unite as one collective mind. Sure, we have some pretty strict parents (the staff) and some rascal children in the bunch, but in the end what we share as a group is far greater than anything I have ever seen. We may not all come here for the same reason, but we come here because to all of us, this is and always will be considered home. People come and people go as the winds of change are constantly blowing. Still, I want to remind everyone that Fuwanovel is and always will be a home for you. The main reason I posted this was to remember who we are, and what this community is. It may seem mundane and sort of useless to state, but take a second and really read these words; remember why you joined Fuwanovel in the first place. The moment you posted something as simple as the word "hello" in the Introduction Forums, you made yourself a part of the family. No matter where life takes you, no matter what happens, this is a place that will always welcome you back. We may be faces hidden behind a computer screen, but we are faces that care. No matter where you come from, no matter what language you speak, no matter what you love, Fuwanovel's doors will always be open, something I am sure the staff and founding members will always agree upon. From the lolicons, to the tsunderes, to the senpais, we are a family. No matter what you love, you are always welcome. Aaeru got it right. She gave us a building block that we as members and staff continue to build upon. There are always trials and tribulations to overcome, but in the end, we as a community and we as a family push through it. For me, that will always bring a smile to my face, as I hope it does the same for you. I just felt like reminding that to everyone...2 points -
Grisaia no Rakuen CE Giveaway! - Finished

http://i.imgur.com/H7m8DCw.jpg Hey all, So I am willing to host a giveaway for a collector's copy of Grisaia no Rakuen. I don't know what I want to do for said giveaway, but I'll think of something near the beginning of summer. Seeing as I am going back to Japan near the beginning of fall, I can just pick up another copy at that time, so I really have no need for this one. If you are interested in obtaining said copy, please post in this thread. I want to see over the next week or 2 who would actually be interested, and if the numbers aren't very high, I'd rather at that point just sell the thing instead of hosting it as a prize. If you are curious, the game itself comes with all the stuff pictured above, in addition to: A CD/DVD copy of extra h-scenes involving Makina and Sachi A medium sized Amane wall scroll (cloth) A large sized (bedsheet length) wall scroll of Michiru and Yumiko The reason I did not picture these extra items is that they are NSFW. If you are interested in what they look like, I can provide a photo for each. Just let me know. Anywho, let's see if anyone is interested, then we can go from there. If My Heart Had Wings- Missing content? (SOLVED)
Monmon reacted to monkeysrumble for a topic
I was doing some random browsing through the internet where I stumbled on a gallery for If My Hearts Had Wings with some h-scenes that I have never seen before. I thought it was something from Flight Diary but upon further research (you know, for science) I found out that the CG's weren't in Flight Diary but were classified as being in the original game. Is the restoration patch missing some H-scenes or were they mislabeled and are actually in Flight Diary? Here's some CG's that happen just before the h-scene (relax they don't have nudity). Thanks.1 point -

We made a website for our translation here: http://blanktranslations.wix.com/blank-translations As you can see, the website is still unfinished. We'll be tweaking things here and there over the next few days. We are still looking for 2 translators and an hacker. Two major issues with transition from VN to anime. 1. The more complex the 'internal' aspect of the story is, the more difficult it is to transform it into an anime. Grisaia, whose story is at least half internal to Yuuji, will definitely suffer from the transition. Hitsujikai also possesses a strong internal element, which will make the transition difficult. 2. Paths- This is a problem seen in the original FSN anime and the non-existent Tsukihime anime. It is also seen in various other conversions to a lesser extent. It basically demands the anime-maker either choose a single path or steal elements from all the paths to make a final ending. For a moege, it isn't really hard to turn it into an anime, because there is so little distinction between the paths in terms of atmosphere or events. However, with a game like Grisaia or Hitsujikai... Edit: Understand, the average moege will just end up as a perfect 'harem story' anime, which is just fine (Shuffle as an example where the anime actually surpassed the original VN), but for a story-focused VN that isn't a kinetic novel...1 point

I'm assuming you finished Shizuru's route by now, since its been like a week since your post. If it wasn't obvious yet, one of Rewrites themes is different philosophies. The choices you make and the events you experience can greatly affect one's outlook on life and Kotarou is no exception. Just because he was a bad ass in Chihaya's route doesn't mean anything in Shizuru's route. Also, the vibe I got from Kotarou was that he was an irresponsible idiot until it mattered.1 point -

Tankhedgehog Hey, If I helped you do a bit of introspection on yourself and you become better because of it, I'm happy! And I texture, the smell, and the taste of pickles. I live in America sooooo, I guess it's the Western version I hate. Ouraibaa <3 Me too!!! I have a ton of metrosexual tendencies because I'm very aware of my image, so I wonder sometimes if it would be easier to cope with if I was a girl. The shit I get from my friends for what I do. .. It's all in jest, but sometimes it just gets to me, ya know? Also, I would have the hypnotic power of BOOBIES if I became a chick. Good shit. But I would be for sure a Lesbian! Yuri for life! Dimdito I'm still waiting for you're answer Dimdito! Ouraibaa. Again lol. Wow, that's pretty bad mate. Yeah, I've had a situation like that. Had some chick who emanated shyness and submissiveness, which if EXACTLY MY TYPE have her friend come up to me and introduce us saying she was interested in me. Basically I held polite conversation but said I had to go back to work cause I thought they were making fun of me. Only later at work did I realize they were serious. It's like the scene in Grisaia with Amane Seath Recently, thanks to this thread and a couple other VN's I've been reading, I've realized I love small chests. Of course big tits make me kinda stare if she's really hot, but that Loli-type 18+ girls just make me HHHHHHHHHHHHNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG And also that I like my girls shy and submissive. I don't want them trying to drag me out around to clubs. I like to stay at home so shy works well for me. And I'm a lightly sadistic(Also recently realized) person, so submissive is also excellent! Blue Ember Yeah, I used to go to the gym ALL THE TIME until this January. I ripped some cartilage in my wrist and a day later injured my foot. So I've been out for about 4 months rcovering. Reading Majikoi through and always seeing Wanko training got me back into the groove though. Been doing a lot of abdominal exercises, light leg exercises, and 10 lb weight reps for upper body to make sure my wrist isn't going to crap out again. I'll move it up slowly as long as it doesn't hurt. Feels nice to be back! And I think that attitude you have about challenging your weakness is very admirable. I'm going to try it like that. I think if I set it up as a challenge to myself, I'll be less concerned about looking like an idiot. I'm the kind of fool who gets very competitive if you challenge me to be, so I think it might work! Thanks alot for the idea Blue!1 point -

Day 10 Recap - The Story of the Twins Hey guys, Really sorry for the delay on this recap, but seeing as nothing really special happened on these days, I took my time with it. I understand that I said I would post a giant summary, but seeing that I don't want to spoil the game too much for readers, I'll keep sticking to the original format. With that said, there was a couple new things this time around in the world, but no new characters. We got plenty of character time with the twins, and interesting characters they are indeed. So with that, let's go! Additional information about Cocoro@Function: 1. Taiyou's level 2 Open Window application seems to only work when someone has a strong feeling in their heart. As such, it doesn't always pick up the thoughts of others around him, in fact very little if anything. However knowing this, the CFC utilizes this fact to expose people's hearts by making them extremely emotional about certain things. This is the case when asking about the dreams people in the school have recently been seeing. Additional information about the world: 1. The HeartLinQ system allows the members of the CFC to meet in a private chat room via SR units. This is a great way to communicate outside of normal everyday life so people are unable to interfere. And really guys, that's it for day 10. Day 11 is also pretty short, so bear with it. Day 11 Recap - Ibuki, Panties, and Moe Additional information about Orcas: 1. Sei is the owner of an application known as Cloud Memo. As the name states, it functions just like a Notepad of sorts. Pretty basic stuff. Additional information about Cocoro@Function: 1. We believe Ibuki (Twin Tiny Tits) is the proud owner of a Cocoro@Function application. While we haven't been introduced to it, it seems to change her personality traits when calling on it. Seeing as she is normally a shy person to begin with, this helps her deal with social skills when her older sister isn't around. More details on this as it comes. And like day 10, that's it! I have posted the day 11 videos as well as updated my actual stream page to reflect what we are all about. If you have any questions, feel free to discuss here, and of course, see you in the next stream! PS - Another gift for all of you:1 point -
Good looking art Visual Novel Recomendation
Kei_Shirogan reacted to Narcosis for a topic
Please use the standard font/size. A lot of visual novels have decent graphics. It depends on personal taste, since vn's sport different kinds of art styles. From the last few games I've seen, Grisaia seems preety impressive (that's how highest quality art looks in eroge nowadays). You might give it a try, especially if you're a newcomer to vn's (though, I'd recommend other, lighter titles to start with, if that's the case). Hoshizora no Memoria has really nice graphics as well and is a decent title for begginers; Both are 18+ titles, though. There are all-ages titles available as well, like Steins;Gate, or If My Heart Had Wings for example. In overall, I'd recommend going to the archive and checking the titles yourself. You should find something that picks your interest.1 point -
