  1. Dear Steve, Like I mentioned in our PM, all of this came at a difficult time for me, and I’m sorry it’s taken me this long to respond. I wanted to make sure I understood my feelings and could articulate my thoughts sufficiently well to give you the credit you deserve, and push back a little (because that’s what we do ) (I shouldn’t have underestimated you, you sly devil ). I’ll first respond as a friend. You have put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into Fuwanovel. You are a man of many talents, and the work you produce is always top notch. You’re passionate, and, for better or worse (depending on whether or not you’re on my side in an argument ), you’re extremely principled. Steve – you always give 110% to projects you believe in, and I admire that in you. Very much so. I believe that Fuwanovel has benefitted much by your optimism, your enthusiasm, and the hundreds and hundreds (and hundreds!) of pages of text you’ve generated in replies and posts. Nobody writes a wall of text quite like Steve. (I mean, I like to think I do a pretty good job of it, but you’re a master. *Raises glass*) On a more vulnerable note – I can think of at least four times when I went to you with self-doubt, self-criticism, or simply feeling low, and you were always supportive. Many people know you as the potentially-insane loli overlord – which you are! (the overlord part) (jury’s still out on the crazy bit) – but I’m grateful that our work together has shown me another side of you. I think you’re a fundamentally good human being who cares (sometimes too much) about people. Our friendship means a lot to me. … Even if I keep blowing you off about D&D. As a friend, I feel like this move is probably good for you. You’ve entered a new phase of life where you’re boldly exploring your Japanese skills, you’ve got a thumb on the pulse of translation projects, and you’re brainstorming/planning some other secret projects which have a lot of potential. I’m excited to see what your lazer-like enthusiasm and work will accomplish. Like I said before, you’re exceptionally skilled and your work is always top-notch. I know that your biggest projects and brightest days still lie in front of you. On the flip side, the Tay-as-administrator part of me has to hand it to you. This post was cunning and clever ; ). I disagree with many of the points you raised and the picture you painted. But I'm not sure that it matters. This was your decision, and like I said, I think it was the right one for you. Not because you aren’t welcome on the staff (I will very much miss your help), but because I think you have new projects and horizons to explore. So, in the end, I’ll raise a glass to you. As with most everything you do, you gave it your all. If anything I’m sad to hear the tones of struggle and defeat as you describe your experience. I hope that with time, you’ll look back at this chapter on the staff as positive. It wasn’t all defeats and clouds. We all have had our time in the sunshine. You have bright days ahead. I’m looking forward to where they take you. All the best. Truly. - Tay

    Lolicons

A true lolicon wouldn't leave the house and be a hikikomori and thus wouldn't cause any real damage to begin with. Fantasizing about having sex with lolis is fine. Taking actions based on those fantasies however is not. Don't arrest me for thinking, arrest me if I take action. That's all there should be.

  5. Hi everyone on this site. I was a Lurker for quite a while on fuwanovel and then I saw everyone introducing themselves. The community seemed pretty tight and I wanted a slice of the pie though I have no skills in translating or any of that. My main hobby is videogames and anime/manga is more a side thing. I like kirby games and the origin on Richard D. Richards comes from King DDD, if ya know why . My favorite VN is hoshizora no memoria cause I really like the older sister archetype with Yume (however, the best character is still probably Momoyo). Finally, my favorite anime genre is Mecha, and my favorite series is probably Armored Troopers Votoms. Thanks for your time guys and gals.

    Dating sim for PC?

Persona 4 should not be considered a dating sim by all means. Sure you can have a relationship with some of the girls but that's just a side thing really. As a game it's awesome so i'd recommend it to anyone that wants an interesting story to get into.

  8. Hello, Fuwanovel~ I would like to let you know that today I am stepping down from my admin position and leaving the Fuwanovel staff. I will explain why, but first I want to start on a positive note. So let me tell you about the beginning of my Fuwa journey~ In January 2012, I got into Visual Novels through my first VN Planetarian. I instantly fell in love with the media and while I was playing my second game, Little Busters, I was also following the very creation of Fuwanovel - that is on Aaerus VNAer blog. I saw all the struggle she was having with it, every day being socially pressured into changes of her plans (believe it or not, one day Aaeru even gave up and accepted only hosting the patches, not the pre-patched releases, just to fight over it and revert this change later to what Fuwanovel is today). But it was this fighting for freedom that made Aaeru glow with a radiant aura around her that I got to respect so much. Once Fuwanovel launched, I used it to download few VNs while only following Aaerus blog, but then later it didn't give me and I also joined the forums. From the very start I had crazy and radical opinions, but it was these opinions that later got me to be invited to join the staff. I explained in the invitation that I will not change anything about my behavior and I will still act the same way I always have, and apparently that was the exact reason they wanted me on. So I joined. And as I promised I didn't change a bit, I was defending the freedom of all Fuwanovel members, often times only getting support from a single person in the staff, Aaeru. And trust me, Fuwa staff section is a true battlefield, if I ever saw one. You don't even want to see the stuff that happens there xD So having support is priceless there. It's been exactly a year on this day since Aaeru posted the AstralAir topic which was originally titled "For Steve" (I renamed it later to turn it into a general AstralAir hype discussion). And this topic is actually my last memory of her (she was still posting after that but very rarely). It happened few weeks after one of the largest battles in the staff section regarding a member linking to a licensed JAST torrent on the forums, a battle where Aaeru and I managed to defend the members of the forum from the tyranny (joke) of other staff who even deleted the post because they misunderstood the Fuwanovel mission. At the end of that topic, Aaeru even admitted how tired she is of trying to defend the freedom over and over again - she's been running Fuwanovel for over a year at that time and that is not counting all the preparations and stuff before the site even launched. It is quite possible that this exhaustion was one of the reasons she left, combined with the stuff that happened earlier that year (DC3 c&d) and possibly other reasons. So from that point, I was alone, I no longer had support within the staff, I no longer had anyone there to encourage me in my arguments, anyone to assist me when I got tired of fighting for freedom. I no longer had anyone to call upon to assure me that I am fighting for something worth fighting for. And I endured for about the same amount of time, a year. However in that year, I was no longer able to win battles, the best I was able to do was delay the outcome at the cost of increasingly more and more effort to keep delaying. But sadly I can no longer go on, I am just too tired and need a break. You can probably even see it on my earlier post today (not gonna link), for which I would like to apologize, but I will keep it there just for the measures. The whole day today I was thinking about this resignation post and so I ended up overreacting there a bit. Moving on, I would like to apologize to everyone who was supporting me and depending on me in some of the latest incidents, where I in the end failed to defend the interests and freedom of Fuwanovel members. It makes my defeat that much more painful, seeing all the people who showed their support either with upvote, reply or a message in personal conversation. However, this is not the end! And I hope you will help me. It is no longer in the power of a single staff member to do this, we will need everyone to hop on board (of the pirate ship xD) and make their voice heard. Because it is you, members, who make Fuwanovel what it is. And if what we have to do is scream, then scream! If what we have to do is fight, then fight! And I know lot of you will have it hard as I know that most people supporting my stance are not native English speakers, but even if you have to use broken English or you don't know how to properly formulate your sentences, try it anyways! Because your voice is what matters. As you can see it doesn't matter what is written under your name, it can say new member, it can say veteran member, it can say moderator, it can say admin but every one of us still has only one voice, I might have had admin under name but my voice was no longer loud enough, it is weakened by my exhaustion. So I want your voice to be heard, let's get more people to scream and make it loud! And let me end on a positive note as well~ BGM: A Brand New World (nico since its not on YT) So... I am by no means leaving Fuwanovel, if you were hoping for that then sucks to be you I will actually try to dedicate all the time that I used to spend on all these hidden problems to things that matter the most - Mare and Shinku (and perhaps Yuuki if I end up loving her too ) So you can expect more lolis, more Mare and Temple activities, More Shinku and perhaps a construction of her Temple. Also I should have some more time to try to better manage the EH project Oh and I am not promising anything, but if I love AstralAir, there is a chance that I might help with something like H-scene translation if I feel like I can handle it - but nothing is for sure yet, its just what I'm thinking now. Also, I need to make sure Shinku is watching over Fuwanovel in my place, but I will also need your help for that - make sure you vote that Shinku logo for the next Fuwa logo xD (in before this whole resignation was a plan to get more people vote for that logo ) So yeah, if you thought that I overdo all the Shinku and Mare stuff now, prepare yourself for the future. Imagine me when I don't have to spend 20+ hours a week fighting over regulations and can fully commit to the lolis. This forum will for sure turn into the promised loliland~ #shinkunovel #marenovel And I will also have more time to focus on being #1 Favorite fan in the world The future has already begun~ Lastly I would like to thank everyone who stood behind me during my time as a staff member for their support, but also everyone who stood against me for not making my life too easy. Also big thanks to all staff members, current and former ones, for putting up a good and fair fight And mainly thank you to everyone who is after all this time still friends with me. And not only friends but also family, as that is what Fuwa is for me. So yeah, can't wait for the easy peasant life with all of you~ xD ( )

  9. This is a very interesting perspective. But I don't think there would be any other "bad guy" if it had not been for that. In this case I do not think the antagonist was well mended into the story, felt kinda rushed to be honest. And most of the time the progression did not even make sense !! loll dammit here I go pointing out all the route's flaws.

  16. This is normal, it happens to me too, it can't be fixed. But If I could give you a tip it would be to use the MS Gothic font. You can select the font in the options menu. It'll show up as MS ゴシック I say this because the font you're using is not displaying the text properly (the spacing between letters is messed up and they're not lined correctly).

  29. Pretty much this snippet from Rooke's post: When you put women on a pedestal, you're playing into gender stereotypes. You're conforming to the notion that women are delicate, weak, need special care, need to be protected. Sound familiar? That's how we treat children. Chivalry is born from a long tradition of condescension towards women. Shirou Emiya is the prototypical male with "knight in shining armor" complex who feels it's his duty to protect the weak woman beside him--and his idiocy should be self evident. It's one of his more glaring character faults. Chivalry in VNs is all fine and dandy--as long as you recognize that it's a fictional idealization of gender roles for the purpose of entertainment. You know, like lolis and devoted little sisters. As for the real world, true equality means breaking free from the constraints of the outdated concept of gender roles.

  33. Well that is just childish. And you clearly do not know what gentleman means. That is just taking an uppity attitude and walking out in the middle of what I had presumed to be a civilized conversation. A chivalrous, courteous, or honorable man is what is considered a gentleman. Please do not mistake that. It is just being condescending.

    Lolicons

I don't have a problem with people being lolicons, but I do have a problem with lolicons who take advantage of lolis due to being older/more mature. I think it's important to allow children to grow and mold themselves in to what they want to be, without being dragged in to a realm they aren't equipped mentally to handle simply because someone saw the opportunity to satisfy their own desires. In any case we know all the "loli" characters showcased in anime/VNs for the most part are all written extremely poorly and aim simply to satisfy a niche fetish. It's the very rare game that the character is young for a reason, and that her being young actually plays in to the story and why/how things play out. As for characters that only "look" like lolis, most of these characters are a pain in the ass to deal with. If they're older than they look, then they don't have to act like little kids all the time, and should have some backbone.

  39. Actually just to be a bit of a technical asshole knights do still exist. Anyone with "Sir" in front of their name has been knighted. From my understanding knighthoods are no longer hereditary, but if you are an English citizen and you accomplish something great you can receive a knighthood. For example Paul McCartney got knighted and his proper name ever since was Sir James Paul McCartney. Sorry I'm just obsessed with hierarchical structures and had to say this. On to the actual topic: I have had some really awful conversations with some radical feminists in my school and I learned two things from those conversations. 1) To avoid the topic as much as possible, and 2) Their crazy. Almost everything is seemingly sexist. -.- My actual views on Chivalry is that I think its good. I generally act courteously and I think people appreciate it sometimes. In fact since most people don't give a shit, it actually helps me stand out a tad bit. Also, Please explain.

  46. Chivalry ey? Let me post an article which deals with an interesting point. Pop quiz. A professional man holds the door open for a female colleague. Is that sexist? A husband always insists on driving during tiring trips to save his wife the effort. Is that sexist? What about that nice guy on the train who stands to allow a woman he's never met to sit down. Is THAT sexist? New research has sparked fiery debate over a question I've long been unable to answer. Is chivalry sexist? The study, conducted by two female psychologists from Pennsylvania State University and Phillips University Marburg in Germany, sought to examine how much people recognise sexism on a daily basis and if awareness of sexist exchanges altered their perspective. Male and female colleagues were asked to record instances of both "blatant sexism" (derogatory name calling, unwanted sexual advances) and "benevolent sexism" (which includes well-intentioned behaviour or philosophies that differentiate women as needing special consideration, having feminine skills or as being vulnerable. Women needing to be protected by men or rescued first in a disaster were examples cited in the study.) After becoming more aware of blatant and benevolent forms of sexism around them, women tended to view the behaviours as inappropriate. Men, however, did not believe the "benevolent" incidents were sexist. <snip> It's true that women are biologically different. So should they be treated as such? Part of me feels that, with monthly pains, like childbearing and perpetual double standards of womanhood, I am owed some grocery lifting, pedestal placing, and occasional spider killing by the men in my life. Likewise, certain gendered behaviours have such deep roots in romanticism - he pays on the first date, he gets down on one knee - I would truly be sad to see them go. The danger, however, is if gallantry begets the notion that women are less than or need special favours in order to succeed. Men and women might subconsciously receive that message and carry it with them to their schoolyards, workplaces and marriages. If your girlfriend is too "delicate" to change a tire, is a female manager too "weak" to run your board? And if you believe that he should pay for dinner, are you more willing to accept a lower salary? Because I would answer yes, that would be sexist. http://www.forbes.com/sites/jennagoudreau/2011/06/28/is-chivalry-sexist/ Now, having met many feminists who DO hold the above view I can state that this viewpoint is both real and valid. So, does this kindness reserved specially towards women have a place in a world which emphasises gender equality?
