Indeed, I am here to make you suffer and you best expect some real torture. I am Tiago, Tiago F Varela. I am a Portuguese Anglophiliac Gentleman and I'm not actually called Tiago F. Varela, though I know someone who goes by said name. No, that is not meant to be a super revelation, to name myself by another persons name is a decision I kind of came to regret but I've got consent, so I suppose that is good enough. I had originally intended to have this be a very long post, as you can probably notice from the title, but no such thing, I've got nothing special to tell you chaps and there's probably nothing you really want to know either. If you're really interested in my life story you can check this thread: http://forums.fuwanovel.net/index.php?/topic/7666-tiagos-holiday-message-and-pretty-much-entire-life-history/ Besides my life story, the other thing I can mention is my experience on Fuwanovel. So lets go do that, a la Eclipsed: I joined Fuwanovel March of last year, though I think I found the forums around December of the previous. What did I during these few months consisted of reading every single post on the forums. Except the Love Live Thread, can't recall when that appeared but I always kept away from that place. Around this time I wasn't really working and we can assume I spent my every moment on the PC. I made my first post in a thread about Remember11, and this would make Funyarinpa the first member I ever talked to. Since then, he's been one of those who I would consider 'Fuwafriends'; one of those people I feel completely free to call an idiot with no remorse at all. Sometime after this I decided to make an introduction thread; from there, various members entered my head as people I noted throughout the forums. Examples are Nosebleed, who had an avatar of a loli with some kind of aeroplane fighter cap and that one I really liked, and other people like Maefdomn, Okami, Tom... And especially Aniki. This is the person who really got me into Fuwanovel with the Games and Chatter games. Beyond this, I became a member who occasionally posted only with the intent of making a point while mocking people, trying not to be taken seriously and banter around. I more or less succeeded and became know as a sarcastic grumpy man by some members. Since then I've softened up, admittedly, and I'd mainly blame it on: Becoming a Board Mod This was the first major change I had in Fuwanovel, I became a board mod (probably though some kind of random lottery) and used up all of my time meant to make witty posts and reading every single thread, instead spamming the staff forums and working on ideas and making stuff happen. It can be said I used up a lot of hours writing and thinking here. And this lead to some problems in real life when I came back to work. Around the beginning of the year I became a Global Mod and started to work on renovating a lot of the DevBoards. Once I finished that I pretty much disappeared into oblivion. I changed jobs, so I'm technically no longer a mod, and far as staff is concerned I did nothing until the end of last week, when things may or may not be starting up again... *hype hype* I don't know if you noticed, but over the course of this post I've been distracted by the TV next to me and I've written about a sentence an hour, with my trains of thought being cut off all the time. I humbly apologize for the scummy post thus far. Either way chaps, this is what I really wanted to do, thank everybody who has been my 'friend', admired idols or lovable idiots alike. List of my Rabid Fans (and people who I somewhat don't dislike too much tsun tsun): My condolences if you weren't mentioned. I guess you're worthless now. You better commit suicide to compensate for your sin of living. Either that or ignore my nonsense. And here you go. This will be everything for now, I'm tired of writing this, I've noticed I really don't have any memories unless I go look through my old posts but I won't bother with that so you get nada, zilch, niente and as I'd say in Portuguese, nicles.9 points

Confession: I teach about once a month at various preschools in the area I live in in Japan (no that part isn't the confession). I've gotten used to the kids' lack of respect for personal space and I usually wear jeans whenever I go there to protect from getting kancho-d (you know how Naruto was always jamming his fingers up people's butts? that's Kancho. It's a real thing that Japanese kids really do as a game) Anywho so I'm out there today playing Red Light Green Light (a game where the kids can move on green and have to stop on red, they try to be the first one to cross the space between me and them). When they reach me they tend to pile around, fighting over who gets to cling to my legs. Well today one little girl for some reason starts feeling around for my package. When she couldn't find it immediately she looked up at me with a serious, disappointed face and asked 'Are you even a boy?'4 points

summary Our narrator born in Hawaii meets a young college student who goes to the same school. He was practicing for the 10k marathon until the narrator saw the young girl crying. Her name is Aya, her trouble life is leading her to consider suicide or murder as an alternative to being happy. The story progress to more and more life changing events that happens almost everyday in the real world. I wont reveal how many ends there are but it is multichoice until you reach an ending. The game won't be free (for a good reason) anyone who buys the game will help fund American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, the game will be for $2. In math terms this is how much the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention will get for each game brought. special thanks to konett for allowing the characters to be use for commercial use demo version can be downloaded here: http://firecat.itch.io/serious-to-the-end ------------------------------------------------------------------update------------------------------------------------------------- dont worry the project is still going, i haven't post any updates so let me go over on what happen. * i have added a new textbox, one that feels hawaii * another addition is multiple language but separate games, in other words it means you can play the game in Spanish, Japanese and English (so no it originally was never meant to be a OELVN project). * the storyline is about 30% at this point with japanese being at 10%, this is due to misspelling by google translate so i have to fix it most of the time. --------------------------------------------------------------------------update 2------------------------------------------------------------------- video trailer for the game is up https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHdeC82mv0M&feature=youtu.be * also the game is now only english and spanish version. i could not stand with google misleading me on japanese and delaying the project. * the price is still the same, only $2 * android version will be available at amazon as well as separate OP systems such as mac, linux and windows. * full download of everything (including android) will be place on itch.io and fireflower. * support for rising awareness in suicide death has been made in thunderclap: https://www.thunderclap.it/projects/27606-suicide-awareness-funding?locale=en ----------------------------------------------------------------final update---------------------------------------------------------- its finally release!3 points

As we grow older we tend to view things in a different light, enjoy new things, find new interests, find out something we've liked before just doesn't do it for us anymore, and so on. How has this experience been for you? How have you started out, which was your first game, genre, guilty pleasure, and what might have changed over the years that made you notice this topic in the first place? Do you still enjoy gaming as much as when you started out, or have you grown old, bitter and jaded over the years? For me personally, gaming has faded into the background as soon as I started working. I grew up with the good old SNES, having a blast with pretty much (IMO) the best JRPGs there are, even to this day: Secret of Mama, Illusion of Gaia, Breath of Fire, FF6, the list goes on. Same for Action Adventures, in the veins of LoZ:LttP, Super Metroid, Act Raiser. I've played them (and many other games) a lot, both when I got them and when I felt there wasn't anything better to play right now. After burning through the games that were released on the N64 I got my first computer that was able to do 3D rendering and pretty much backtracked to play a plethora of CRPGs, and even a lot of shooters like the original Call of Dutys, Soldier of Fortune, Max Payne, etc. The thing is, all of these games innovated in some way, if only through better graphics sometimes, but also in storytelling, feeling more like actual stories than just something that's tacked on for the sake of having a (frilled, incoherent, all over the place) red thread running through. These days I just don't feel even close to the same level of excitement from playing games, especially the wonder of discovery has been lost on me in the most recent generation, with a exceptions like the Tales of, The Witcher and Souls series of games. Apart from a few noteworthy exceptions in terms of single player games, I enjoy playing with friends or even just talking about games more than actually playing them. Whether I just grew old, life got in the way and I'm too stressed out, or "they just don't make them like they used to do", I'm not sure, but I've lost a lot of what made my childhood enjoyable because of it. Feel free to share your own story and opinion or comment on my rant, and have fun discussing.2 points

I'm not good at this kind of stuff but I figured I'd inform the community of the updates that have happened on the forum guidelines. Feel free to check the updated thread for yourself here Not much has changed but I'd like to point out the key changes: Several definitions were added at the bottom (may add more later) Rule enforcement system was taken down Several bullets were added under guidelines The most notorious one, the rule enforcement changes, comes from discussion and feedback among the staff and the LC and it is not meant to say "there is no rule enforcement", it's meant to say that we're not going to have a super specific program laid out on what kind of punishments you'll get for doing something. The reasons for this are to prevent loopholes and to allow more leeway for the staff to act when they see something is wrong in the context at hand. Our community grows each day and the environment changes, so instead of having to constantly upate the rules, we'll try to have the staff act as they see fit on it instead. Now I know this is likely not pleasant to hear for some, maybe a lot, but the staff is trying to evolve and make a good environment for everyone and the new rules created are meant to address concerns that popped up recently, so I guess all I'm asking is some trust from the members when it comes to enforcing the rules and dealing with problematic people. The Coliseum of Chatter rules were also discussed and while I did say they were temporary when I made them, no one really had any changes to suggest to the rules I wrote so I ended up leaving them as is and added just one more point in there, they should be fairly encompassing for the time being. There'll also be a rules post for the Anime & Manga bord going up soon because that board has never had rules and I think it's about time it had some. That is all.2 points

Has your enjoyment from gaming remained the same throughout the years?
heavenlysf reacted to Rabbit for a topic
Gaming will never be the same from when I was younger, it might just feel like that because of nostalgia but I can't just get into games as easy as I used too when I was younger. there's been a few games that I have played alot when I was younger, I have 1 thousand hours on mw2 and god knows how much I have on WoW from when I was younger, now I play something for 30 hours at the best before I start getting bored if I even get that far. I could also play alot more by myself before, nowadays playing w/o friends isn't really enjoyable anymore. Games has always been important to me, a big part of my childhood as it helped me through some very rough times, it distracted me. And I don't need that distraction as much anymore so that might be one reason for why games just doesn't do it for me anymore.1 point -

Yes, I said my next post would be the end of this game, but the game is surprisingly long... especially considering the obscenely high encounter rate on the world map and the fact that if you don't keep your levels up (level 10 at least at the end of chapter 1, 20 at the end of 2, etc) you really are screwed. If nothing else, you won't be able to keep ahead of the regenerative abilities each chapter's main boss (except 1's) seems to possess. The reason for this? Primarily it is the cost of healing items and the dearth of good healing skills. Lieschu's magic healing skills can only be used once per battle and require a huge BP charge before you can use them, and Cass's healing skill also has relatively high requirements in that area. Healing items actually increase in cost every time you buy them, depending on how many of them you have, which makes flexible use of healing impossible. This pretty much eliminates any strategy other than 'hit as hard and as fast as possible' when fighting bosses. The upside is that if you do overlevel, it is pretty rare for you to die on the story bosses and getting through normal battles is much easier. I realize that they were trying to create a balanced system by limiting healing in this way, but in doing so they eliminated most of what makes turn-based rpg battles enjoyable, which is strategizing for survival. Not to mention that since you can't heal yourself along the way, it isn't uncommon to get really low on hp before you even reach a boss, if you aren't careful. In other words, the substituted tedium for thinking, a common mistake many 'new' jrpgs tend to make...1 point

Yeah. An American woman in the same area as me was very shocked by how the preschool kids would go straight for her boobs, grabbing them and resting their heads against them, and how none of the teachers really did anything about it. I think this mainly has to do with the difference between how kids are raised in Japan and America. In America kids are raised by their families and so they sort of learn that it's okay to hug and have lots of skinship with their family but not so much with people outside the family. In Japan kids are mainly raised by the schools starting from preschool, so to them their classmates and teachers ARE family.1 point

The Decline of Reading in Relation to VNs
kamiwakai reacted to Heizei_koukousei for a topic
http://www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/industry-news/comics/article/63848-light-novels-arrive-in-the-u-s-again.html http://arts.gov/sites/default/files/ToRead.pdf Studies have shown that youth spend far less time reading than previous generations. There are many reasons for the causes of this phenomenon. Let's focus on the effects, specifically the effects in relation to visual novels and the western community. Visual novels rely heavily on language, many of which have higher word counts than the average ink-on-paper novel. I feel that this discourages westerners who are already weary of reading. I began considering this after looking at the extreme limited niche market for light novels published in English. The writing style for many light novels appeals to the intended Japanese audience. "According to Japan’s Publishing Science Institute, light novels accounted for approximately 23.5% of the country’s general paperback sales in 2011" I included that statistic to demonstrate that reading is not an issue for eastern culture, thus visual novels are also seeing continuing success. My question for you is: How can we expect visual novels to become a well known medium in the west when less people in general find pleasure in reading?1 point -

This is a quick guide to get people familiarized with Fuwanovel's mythos. It's very important to know as this is deeply tied with how Fuwans spend their daily lives and you wouldn't want to make a mistake to anger them. After reading this, I am confident you will understand how Fuwanovel works from the inside out. Deities and other notorious figures Scottsune Miku Scott is our lord and savior. He offers us Domino's pizza and lets us have fun with Hatsune Miku. Every person on Fuwanovel needs to at least pay him proper respect and thank him for the life they've been given. He has done many feats in the past such as become the person with the most posts, most profile views, most warning points and most swag. He truly is the definition of a God. Praise Scott OriginalRun #UnbanRun Run was once banned and forever he shall not be unbanned. So the laws of physics dictate. Pleading for Run to be unbanned is a natural occurence, but it shall go unheard for eternity. Azusa Azusa is the best grill, she descended from the heavens to save the anime industry and we shall praise her for it. She is also the most efficient weapon in dealing with TheMajor. Asuna Although the pronounciation is similar, you mustn't mistake Asuna for Azusa, it is a grave offense. Asuna is the worst grill. Some say she is a direct relative to Satan, I wouldn't be surprised. You may bash Asuna anytime you'd like. Cloudfare Whenever Fuwanovel stops working, it's cloudfare's fault. No exceptions. Pulltop Notoriously known for destroying OriginalRun's youtube account, Pulltop runs a Yakuza gang that scouts out youtube videos and sends them DMCAs. They are a very dangerous entity and should not be messed with. Some say it was because of the Pulltop Yakuza that Fuwanovel had to take down all their torrents. They often attract people with cute moege. Beware, this is only a trap to lure you in and get DMCA strikes. Approach with caution. Moenovel The company responsible for the atrocity of a translation that is If My Heart Had Wings. Everything wrong in the Visual Novel industry can be compared to Moenovel. Moenovel shall always be used when complaining about game translations, in any discussion ever. Other Important Objects of Worship Milky Holmes Milky Holmes is the greatest anime of all time. This is ditacted by our lord Scott and mustn't be defied. The only thing better than Milky Holmes is more Milky Holmes Bananas Bananas are Fuwanovel's official fruit. Please eat bananas regularly to stay healthy. Pancakes There is a weapon for every villain. If you ever encounter a subject by the name of solidbatman, know your weapon of choice should always be pancakes. Pancakes became notorious for fending off against solidbatman after he was subject to torture with pancake overload when streaming Little Busters for over 24 hours. They usually prove quite effective. When used, pancakes often cause salt to be created Salt Most fuwans produce salt, especially when angered. You can often see salt dripping from threads and posts, it's one of Fuwanovel's more precious minerals and lots of people enjoy collecting it. Lolis Lolis are to Fuwanovel what coal is to a furnace. They keep the site running. School Days HQ The worst visual novel in history. Only the brave try to touch it with a 10 foot pole. Spam Fuwanovel's insides are mostly made of spam, it is the thing that inflates the forum in content as well as people's post count. My Blender A picture of my blender. Fuwanovel Timeline While hard to grasp for newcomers, Fuwanovel runs on a timeline named Soon What happens in this timeline is, for every new feature that's annouced, a wormhole is created which causes the creation of that feature to be stuck on a sort of limbo. Fuwanovel is perpetually threading this Soon timeline. But it's not to say that the timeline is an infinite loop. Sometimes, through several riots, Fuwanovel is able to temporarly leap out of the Soon timeline and create something new. But the attraction field surrounding the Soon timeline is very strong so these divergences are scarce and far in between. Too many riots often also result in Fuwapocalypses And this is the reason Fuwanovel is in a state of continuous monotony. I hope with this post you became more knowledgable about Fuwanovel and the magic that goes on behind the scenes. With this knowledge, you can now become an official Fuwan! Praise Scott1 point

Hoshizora no Memoria - Wish Upon A Shooting Star
Kuroki_satou reacted to Skeith for a topic
Hoshizora no Memoria Wish Upon A Shooting Star Licensed by Sekai Project The story begins with the protagonist, Kogasaka You, moving back to his hometown, which he left behind several years ago. Upon arriving, he stumbles into an abandoned, sealed observatory, whereupon he encounters a mysterious girl who looks exactly like his childhood friend did years ago. She introduces herself as Mare, a shinigami who reaps nightmares. Meanwhile, back at school, You ends up joining the astronomy club, which is desperate need of new members. At night, he continues to visit Mare at the observatory, all the while trying to remember a certain someone's name. In 'Hoshizora no Memoria - Wish Upon A Shooting Star', the protagonist can fall in love with one of the seven heroines in the game. They are as follows: Minahoshi Asuho, Hisakaki Komomo, Hisakaki Kosame, Aoi Isuzu, Kogasaka Chinami, Ototsu Yume, and Mare S. Ephemeral. Ending Guide At the beginning of the game, only three of the seven heroines' routes are available. You will have to unlock the rest by playing through the first three's routes. The three available routes at the beginning of the game are Asuho, Komomo, and Isuzu's. After finishing Komomo's route, Kosame's will be unlocked. After finishing Isuzu's route, Chinami's will be unlocked. After finishing Asuho, Komomo, Kosame, Isuzu, and Chinami's routes, a secret heroine's route will be unlocked. Finally, you have to finish every heroines' routes before Mare's route can be unlocked. In order to fully immerse, enjoy, and understand the visual novel, it is the author's recommendation that you follow this order for clearing the routes: **Please note that the choices you see below are choices that the author made, you may be able to choose another choice and still arrive at the same route.** Route Walkthrough Asuho Minahoshi Komomo Hisakaki Kosame Hisakaki Aoi Isuzu Chinami Kogasaka Secret Heroine Mare S.
