  3. That depends really. Visuals are objective, you see things how they are, but prose arises from the prejudices and experiences of the narrator which means it's easier to see things how they see things. Which is sometimes fun. It's also why engaging prose is hard to write. A really easy example to give is Terry Pratchett, he has a way of describing things which doesn't translate to the big screen. For example: There was a knock at the door. It should not be possible for a knock to sound surreptitious, yet this knock achieved it. It had harmonics. They told the hindbrain: the person knocking will, if no one eventually answers, open the door anyway and sidle in, whereupon he will certainly nick any smokes that are lying around, read any correspondence that catches his eye, open a few drawers, take a nip out of such bottles of alcohol as are discovered, but stop short of major crime because he is not criminal in the sense of making a moral decision but in the sense that a weasel is evil - it is built into his very shape. It was a knock with a lot to say for itself. Now obviously something like this can't really be shown, and loses a lot in the translation to a movie or tv show. Obviously you can provide narration but unlike in a book time is money in a show/movie, there's only so much you're allowed, and this sort of narration takes a fair bit of time and is often deemed pointless. It can survive the transition to a hybrid medium like Visual Novels. That being said, if something is shown in an objective light through the use of visuals, then you lose the ability to see things uniquely as the author sees it. But that being said I wouldn't force yourself to read books, books are just another medium for stories to be conveyed and some people are unsatisfied with the text format. There's nothing wrong with that, there's plenty of alternatives around I still tend to believe it's about finding the "right books" though. I remember hating books throughout most of my childhood, my mother would shove books at me and so would school but I didn't enjoy them. I didn't start liking books until I stumbled on a select few authors, one was Piers Anthony whose books contain a lot of puns, another was Douglas Adams who was about satire and silliness, after that I made my way to fanfiction where I lost 2 years of my life, and then I was reading everything.

  7. Online dating is just a different approach to the dating side of things, it's not some two headed beast, it's usually easier to get into due to a multitude of factors, although it can also have opposite effects in your social abptitude, especially if you start shutting yourself in said online relationship and don't try to progress it to a real life counterpart. I can see why your therapist would recommend it, especially if you've never had much romantic contact before, an online approach is not a bad thing to try out, as long as you know exactly what you're getting into and don't allow yourself to build a wall around you to avoid real life contact. Online personas can be a terrible thing if you let them consume you. Speaking from experience, I met a girl online some years back, we got along just fine texting and whatnot and we talked about all kinds of stuff, we didn't start dating online because we both felt like we needed to meet up in real life for that but we did ackowledge we had grown fond of each other. After some months I finally managed to find an opportunity to go visit her for the first time. I travelled all night for like 6 hours, it was pretty tiring, and when we finally met the next day for the first time I have to say I never experienced as much social awkwardness and anxiety as I did then. It is what one would call a disaster date and I have but myself to blame. I'll spare you specifics, but needless to say we never did begin dating (at least we're still good friends now and can look back and laugh at it). The point is, you really have to make sure if you're planning on developing any form of relationship skills, you can not shut yourself off behind a screen above all else, otherwise you'll go through shit like I did, opening up and going through awkward moments is part of growing up, and I think your therapist's advice is meant for you to try and open up with other people rather than shut yourself off so just keep that in mind when trying online dating.

  8. Lots of cynicism in this thread... Dating is nothing more than the procedure of finding out if someone is compatible with you. The only difference between online dating and hooking-up-with-someone-at-the-bar dating is the amount of information you start with and the degree of lying possible. When you meet someone in the bar you have to worry whether that person is hiding a penchant for murder. When you meet someone online you have to worry whether that person is actually 10… AND hiding a penchant for murder. The only other thing that’s different is in the real world you usually meet other people while you’re both doing an activity you each enjoy. So you start out with something in common, which makes things easier. Let’s take the bar example again - you both enjoy booze, I’m sure that is something a lasting relationship can be built upon… At the end of the day I don’t see much wrong with online dating. People say it’s fairly unsuccessful, but so is dating in general. The vast majority of people who date never get together, and those that do enjoy a 50% divorce rate, so online dating in comparison may be slightly more unsuccessful, probably because you both don’t start out drunk which is a real shame, but there’s not too much different about it. And lastly, I don’t think your therapist really expects you to find your one true soul in this exercise, he probably thinks you’ll get other things out of it. Something that'll help with your social condition, and maybe he thinks online dating is a way to engage in this because you don't have to be out getting yourself plastered to start.

  12. So yeah... Witcher 3 is pretty easily the best open world RPG ever made. It makes Skyrim look some low-effort indie game in comparison and DA:I literal burning garbage. Every time I play, I get impressed by how incredibly good it is at almost everything. The interface is a bit clunky, which is a shame. Movement can be wonky when you're trying to interact with stuff. But combat is fun, more so than any Bethesda or Bioware title. The side quests are all of very high quality with a ton of unique characters. Every quest feels different, there are no generic fetch quests, and the ones that come closest are camouflaged excellently behind some strong storytelling. I like the tracking stuff you have to often do, it feels like a better version of Batman's detective vision gameplay. And the main storyline is VERY good. I don't think there is such a story-dense open world RPG in existence. The Witcher 3 takes a top-of-its-class standard plot-heavy RPG and melds it perfectly into an open world, with all of the open world gameplay executed near perfectly. It is quite literally the best of both worlds, and I don't think we'll see anything like it until CD Projekt releases their next game. I really hope this encourages Bethesda and Bioware to step up their game. So as you can guess it's what I've been playing for the last week. I also managed to sneak in a few Hearthstone arena runs. Ain't played any VNs in a while.

  15. It would be nice to have a master list of partial patches and links similar to the list of translated vns along with the percentage completed in a single stickied post. Some projects seem largely playable with partial patches and may be good to get people aware of and behind the translation. Just a thought...

  26. There's no secret to reading books. There are millions of way to enjoy reading, and different readers will enjoy different books for different reasons. We can tell you various reasons why we enjoy reading but that might not even resonate with you. One advice I have is to find a book you specifically want to read (not just because you wanted to read a book). People tend to have a bias against books they're assigned to read, even when those books are good. (Also Salvatore and most of those D&D based books are sadly very mediocre, avoid them). You could, for example, try a book that got adapted into a movie you liked. Personally, I got into reading as a kid when I watched the first Harry Potter movie and ended up blasting through all four available books in no time.

  27. I forgot to mention MKX and Persona. I used to play P4E a few years ago, I really want to go back and play it again once I get another console for it. Or I can just wait and make a deal with some magical creature so that it gets ported to PC. I feel the same way as far as playing casually goes, i'll probably dedicate a lot more time assuming we get a decent amount of people in here

  29. Yazawa Nico, official anime and idol spokesperson for Fuwanovel and Domino's Pizza It's musical month here on Fuwanovel, and with all of the activities and active threads popping up all over the forums, it's time to promote it! As part of the new Domino's "Share a Slice" campaign here on Fuwanovel, I would like to extend a very warm thank you to Domino's Pizza and Scott for making this possible. As stated in a personal interview with the president himself, he hopes this campaign will unite the community and pizza lovers all over the world: "Here at Domino's Pizza, it has always been our goal to unite the visual novel, animu, and mango community with a common interest that the whole world shares: pizza. Hatsune Miku's ordering service application set the bar for what we hope to do for not only Domino's Japan, but the rest of the world. Just like the crust on our pizzas, our goals have always aimed to rise to the top. Join us fellow pizza lovers, as we shoot for the stars." "We truly believe that like a hungry dog waiting for his dinner, your waifus want to eat pizza just as much as you do. Share the slice with anyone, be it a loli, a tsundere, or even a buddy from across the globe. The sky's the limit! "As our campaign girl herself would say at a time like this: Nico Nico Nii! Let's eat!" Enjoy some awesome fan creations! Grab a drink, and share a slice my friends! Want to help out? Create your very own "Share a Slice" campaign advertisement! Use the transparent image below and go crazy. Make sure to post your creation in the thread when you it's complete! Template Image:

    [Poll]Fuwa Blogs

B-b-b-but I like the birthdays ... *clears throat* Moving right along, I created a new block for the community blogs. I don't know how to make it scroll, however, so that's something we'll need to wait for Nay on (thus, for the meantime, I've limited it to 2 posts). I did, however, manage to use Nay's other work to figure out header formatting & I am very proud of myself. Thoughts? Suggestions? Outrage?

  35. Another "read the manga" suggestion, the studio who did Sora no Otoshimono's final movie (which is a different studio who wasn't involved in any of the previous seasons) butchered the ending so badly even anime-only viewers were pissed (it was even worse for manga readers), I vividly recommend either just watching the first two seasons and the first movie or just reading the manga.

    Another intro

Howdy! I've been interacting with some fine Fuwans on twitter and decided to stop being lazy and start posting in the forum. Not sure if I'll be able to keep it up though I enjoy reading VNs a lot and look forward to discussing them with everyone! On top of visual novels, I enjoy gaming in general, particularly Hearthstone/Diablo. Anyway, just figured I'd finally write an intro thread at 6:00 AM before I go to bed. I'm quite nocturnal. Thanks for reading!

  40. What's so special about a birthday, it's just like any other day, everyday is just a day. Christmas? Just a day. Easter? Just a day. Mother/Father day? Just a day. Earth day? Just a day. We should never celebrate ANYTHING. All days are beautiful, stop day discrimination. #RealDaysHaveCurves
