    Thank You Fuwanovel

So I just came back home after retaking my English exam in Highschool to re-apply for college, and lo and behold, the exam's theme was internet freedom and censorship. I really feel these almost 2 years on Fuwanovel filled with loli threads, "take down da torrentz" threads and "stop censoring my opinion you spawn of Satan" threads really provided me with an insane amount of insight and I truly believe I have just done the most amazing written composition in any English test I've ever made and managed to answer all the questions about why the internet should be a free place. It was an amazing pleasure to be able to convey all the salt into an actual written exam. So thank you, Fuwanovel, for constantly debating these ultra important issues, so much so that even Portugal's National English Exam ended up being all about it. Without you, I would not have been able to write a 220 word composition about "muh freedomz on the internet". PS: I did end up writing on how lolis shouldn't be censored, but unfortunately that part went over the word limit, but it will forever be remembered in my heart.

  2. Edit: This is not a new idea per se, but rather an extension for condensing all of the current material on the site into a nice little quick read for Fuwa users on the go. A lot of people log in, check what they need to, and log off. This will hopefully allow those people to do the same thing, but open their eyes to a little more content around the site so they don't have to click additional links and browse all over the place. In addition, fun games and puzzles can be included too! This is a suggestion. It might be a bad suggestion, but it is a suggestion. I love working on Photoshop, but more so, I love working on InDesign projects. I used to be a part of my school newspaper team back in high school, and some of the greatest moments were creating layout designs for our monthly issues. I really want to do this for Fuwanovel as well. I got this idea when I was creating the magazine layout for the musical band creation activity, and I thought why not do this for the actual site itself? So here is my idea. I wanted to (be it alone or with other people) release a monthly Fuwanovel magazine that features all of the content from the previous month. The content in the spread can (but doesn't need to) include: Blog entry columns highlighting members and the work they post Fuwazette, Fuwareview, and translation status updates New VN releases and other pertinent information A new member's spread. Check who registered for the site and posted an introduction in the last month Creative interviews for contributing members of the site. Essentially, an extension of the community podcast episodes I host with people, but in written form for those who don't like speaking in person A recap of threads members should check out from the site Again, these are just some ideas we can post in the monthly magazine issue. As stated, each issue would be released every month. Since most of the content in the issue is already written, it would just be a matter of pasting articles inside and making a cool layout design. Not every single thing needs to be featured in every issue, but even a small 3-4 page spread would be a nice recap for new and existing members. Essentially, this can reduce the clutter of recent threads on the sidebar (if this is of interest to anyone) and gives everyone a chance to contribute should they feel like it. That being said, I want to know if this is something people would enjoy seeing. It would be a quick read each month and allows people on the go and lurkers of the site to get instant recaps of what is going on around the site. So, what I would like is feedback. If feedback is generally positive, I would like to get the ball rolling on this for August if possible, meaning that I will post a separate thread allowing people to pitch font and image ideas for the spread (mainly an awesome cover for the magazine). Members like Emi and Beato would be great additions to this magazine (sorry for singling you out guys) because of their awesome work they are doing for the front site. This has a lot of potential for members who don't get a lot of time to check out all the areas of Fuwanovel. Instead of looking all over the forums for new material, everything listed above can be posted in an easy to find location. Anyways, let me know!

  3. A Universal Issue Tentacle sex and rape are the two big downers to this series. For a series with such good writing, it is amazing how quickly it becomes repetitive once h-scenes get into the picture. On the bright side, corrupting the heroines in Empire, Frontier, and Hypno almost always has immensely hilarious results after the mindbreak. It is kind of irritating that you pretty much have to mindbreak them to get the really good strategic skills, though. Abyss To be honest, this is the game in the series I liked the least. First, it is the first one that introduces the tentacle impregnation=new troops system that was the recruitment system for this and Gaia. Second, it has the weakest set of heroines and protagonist in the entire series. Third - and last - it uses a dungeon-defense gameplay model, which I despise. To be honest, the Law route of this game is incredibly boring, story-wise, with a huge amount of cliched jrpg knock-off plot twists. While this isn't unexpected, the main heroine's personality is the worst part of it... her idealism wears on you after a while, and both the protagonist and the antagonist are both weak enough not to be able to make up for it. The Chaos route suffers from 'we just stuck an evil route on it for mad science self-indulgence' syndrome, and the ending is, if anything, even more pathetic than the Law ending (think a bad ending in a chuunige with the positions reversed). While the story is actually mildly enjoyable while it is going on, the aftermath is singularly disappointing and dissatisfying. Frontier I'll just come out and say it... this would have been the perfect story if the main antagonist wasn't such a straight-out 'Me Dark Lord, Destroy world because me bored!' Kefka knock-off. Oh, the details are mildly interesting, but the last chapter is almost unforgivable. If it wasn't for the overwhelmingly good cast on the protagonist's side of things, as well as the game's excellent story as a whole (if you cut out the ending sections) this would probably be an eminently forgettable game. The protagonist's motivations, his background, and his abilities as a general and a warrior make him a really attractive main character, and the fact that he isn't just a mass of endless ambition and sadism (unlike many VNs along the same lines) is a huge attraction for this game. The actual gameplay is somewhat improved from Empire (the previous strategy-conquest game in the series) but the game balance is kind of broken at points (think sharp spikes in difficulty, especially at the beginning and end). Gaia ... you almost have to be impressed about how completely they integrated the monster-birth recruitment system into this game. It isn't nearly as annoying as it was in Abyss, where it made the actual process of recruitment a matter of extreme annoyance (especially if you wanted to constantly alter the makeup of your forces). However, you do spend an inordinate amount of time staring at the little calendar part of the UI and checking to see how it will effect the power of the units you intend to birth. Again, like all the previous games in this series, it suffers from a lack of a good antagonist. There is nothing really sympathetic about the final antagonist (too faceless). The actual base story is much, much more interesting than Abyss... and the main heroine of the Law route is undeniably adorable, as well. lol (out of character for this company is that there are no h-scenes for this heroine, hahaha) They also added a dungeon-raid event battle system where you send your troops through an enemy's dungeon, in addition to the dungeon-defense and construction that makes up ninety percent of the game. This is a definite improvement, and the actual dungeon-construction and defense is a lot more refined (though I still thought it was inferior to Demonion's). Hypno This is undeniably the best game in the entire series, from all angles but one - heroine development. Individual heroine development - usually done through a combination of sex events and conversational events - is a lot less deep than it was in the previous games (yes, it is somewhat weird to say that there is character development when it comes to mindbreak and tentacle-H, but it happens to be true). It also departs from the previous games' style in that you pick your path early on and have to stick to it (basically, you either decide to break Sylvia or become her friend by either continuing with the sex-training or picking her regular conversational events after the required initial scene). This is perhaps the only game in the series where I actually found the chaos route worth playing, though the ending was perhaps less interesting than the actual antagonist and the process of going through the route. The Law route feels very much like a route to redemption from the hell his life has been for Leon and the world in general. However, as anyone who plays this game from the beginning will notice, the true flower of this game's story is the relationship between Leon and Anora. The mutual interdependence, absolute trust, and unstinting love they give one another from the very beginning is touching, even though Anora is pretty much a neutral evil character and Leon a true neutral one, lol. The Law route antagonist, as per the course in all the other games by this company, is a bit of a yawner, though the actual fight against him is pretty good. In terms of the gameplay... it is undeniably improved far and above all the previous games in the series. Being able to invest resources in increasing your income of the four resources (food, ether, magical energy, and coin) as well as war (experience gained every turn automatically by all recruits) and medical (automatic healing on every turn) allows you to do something other than conquer to build up your base of power. The conquest itself is done in stage format rather than in continental conquest format, which has its downsides in terms of gameplay flexibility but has the advantage of not kidding you about how much freedom you have (both Empire and Frontier basically did the same thing but gave you the illusion you were freely conquering the world). The actual recruitment system, which has been evolving since Empire, reaches its peak in this one, where character customization is the most advanced so far, without the unnecessary complications of heroine impregnation in Gaia. Overall Overall, as a series... it makes you hate tentacles after a while, if you didn't already. It also makes some great protagonists (Empire, Frontier, and Hypno in particular). It also has very flat antagonists and gameplay that tends to be somewhat disappointing. Nonetheless, if you can slog through the H scenes (or just ignore them) Hypno - at the very least - is worth trying. Unfortunately, this series will destroy anyone who hates rape or tentacle sex, so I can't recommend it for the uninitiated... or for those who prefer soft H. To be honest, I started turning off my emotions after the first tentacles appeared and if it weren't for the fact that the moment the heroines' broke in Hypno was so deliciously evil, I probably wouldn't have bothered to read any of them. I'll never replay any of the games in this series, but I'll probably at least try the new ones in the series, if only out of curiosity to see whether they've improved the storytelling to fit my standards completely.

  4. Another week, another post. Let's get to the point, since I don't feel too great right now and want to stop moving for the rest of the night. First, Renai Circulation, which I got a request for a couple posts back. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8Yh3VCAP7M Next up, Distorted Pain. Denkare is the shit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oi8h34JLn_o Finally, Pandora no Rakuen from the euphoria OVA. My pick of the week, without a doubt. It was worth the months it took to find the instrumental. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GicyQ1ZrPG4 Now, hopefully I'll get my laptop back soon and be able to record. (My desktop doesn't have a microphone. Yaay.) If nothing else, I have an actual written blog post planned for the near future, so I won't be totally inactive.

  5. Moderators throughout the ages Disclaimer: if this text is written like shit, it's definitely on purpose. Really. Not because I can't be arsed to make correct sentences. I shall not speak of the generation of moderators that existed before mine, as I only know about it through a few recitals. However, names such as meru, zhurai or harry_kinomoto may evoke something to some of you. The latter is known in the ancient tales as "Tay's archnemesis", and it is said their debates were the kind that moved powers and forces beyond our comprehension. Beato is, with Tay, the last of those staff members who lived in that era. In any case. As the little fuwanovel community was growing, and some of the aforementioned moderators had to leave, a need arose for new, fresh recruits. Two of the admins of the then ruling Aaeru/Tay/Ryoji triumvirat set upon finding the chosen ones. Thus on the 30th of March 2013 I'm old halp a whole four members entered the staff. Steve is said to have been chosen because upon seeing the gigantic walls of text he wrote and the passion he displayed in them, Tay and Ryoji thought he must be a man of great wisdom. Luch is said to have been chosen because upon seeing that he seldom spoke any words, Tay and Ryoji thought he must be a man of great wisdom. Down is said to have been chosen because he helped some dude to install Tsukihime and somebody was needed to take care of the Tech Support section. My personal theory, though, is that Tay and Ryoji saw in him a man of great wisdom. Solidbatman is said to have been chosen... eh... nobody really knows. He doesn't seem to know either. Did you know that batman was actually an admin for some time? I think he only reluctantly accepted the position, and he only lasted a month or two. It must have been not too long after his becoming a moderator. A few months later, our ranks were increased by Kendjin. It is said that Tay thought teaming up Kiritsugu and Archer together would definitely win the Holy Grail War, and that using it we would finally make visual novels popular in the West. I think he should re-read Heaven's Feel, he must have been too busy caring about Sakura and overlooked a few details about how the Grail works. Things didn't move much until November 2013, when once again the community had become larger and the moderators had become fewer. Nosebleed is said to have been chosen because upon seeing how many posts he had accumulated in such a short time, he thought making him a mod would prevent him from being a spammer. I guess even the archmage's sagacity sometimes fails him. Kaguya is said to have been chose because upon seeing how many visual novels he had played, Tay thought that person must have reached enlightenment through playing porn games, a method described in a sacred manuscript called SuhaBibi (that sounds really buddhist, doesn't it?) After that, some moderators quited or faded away, the event of Steve's access to adminship took place as mentioned in an earlier post, but until the advent of the board mods & global mods era, no new members joined the team. This is where History with a big H stops and where history with a small h begins.

  6. I see a lot of the regular members of Fuwanovel that play PC games are in the stream group. The thing I do not see though, is any activity. People can post a reply up on the forums asking for people to play, but nothing ever goes on here. With visual novels becoming more of a thing on Steam I would like to see the Fuwanovel Steam Group become more active. By that I do not mean we up and leave the forums and start posting everything video game related here, rather do more events, maybe become a curator, and spread the love of Fuwanovel on Steam. We already have Fuwa reviews and what not on the main site, but I am going to assume the majority of people on Steam do not know what visual novels are. While if someone sees say Grisaia on Steam and clicks it, it could be their first introduction to visual novels. They either want to learn more, but don't know where to look, maybe get the wrong information and some biased answers, or just skip it completely. Some one transferring the reviews from Fuwa and making them accessible on Steam for people to see seems like a good idea to me. There may be other groups already doing that, as I am sure there are, but they aren't Fuwanovel! The next point I would like to address is Fuwanovel Steam Group events. A lot of us seem to play a majority of single player games and while there is already a Fuwa Game Club every month on the forums nothing goes on within the group. With some members of the community playing multiplayer games I think events could be a fun way to bring the community closer together, or farther apart if you are that competitive of a player. The kind of events could range from CS: GO customs with silly rules, Left 4 Dead 2 versus, Fighting Games, Civ V get togethers, anything really. Another thing I didn't bring up in the first paragraph is trading. Now there are a lot of trading groups on Steam and some of you may already be members of some. I intend to level my profile mainly through badges, but as you may know that can cost a lot if you don't have people to trade with. Maybe the Fuwanovel Steam Group could also be a hub for Fuwans to trade their goods to and fro, or maybe even showcase mods, skins, etc.? What do you guys think? Even though this is a Fuwanovel group and the availability of the website is more convenient, I still think showing some love on Steam wouldn't be a bad thing. I was about to go to bed and I checked my Steam profile and saw a lonely Fuwanovel group and came up with some on the spot ideas. I would imagine it needs more thought, and feedback, so I did a post here and on the Steam group. Good night, morning, or afternoon Fuwa goers

  9. What the topic says. Curious if we'd get people interested in contributing that way, and in an easier fashion. First thing to put up would be the New'n'Shiny™ VNDB Client, written in PHP. Massively over-abstracted, blown up and... actually quite neat. Still giving it the finishing touches, but still. So?

  10. Ehm moving on with this conversation that isn't suited to this thread at all, actually grisaia's common route is good since it has comedy, top notch slice of life comedy I am telling you, that's the best thing I laugh, and that's probably the reason why I finished the common route in two days during the exams, it's not long at all. Confession: I couldn't last after 5 days and fapped today , and there goes my no fap month : 3

  20. Since I've promised to post the summaries of the routes (or rather, additional endings) in the console release of Chaos;Head, I've decided I will post them separately one after another instead of waiting for whenever I might finish them all. So what are those 'routes', anyway? They're special chapters that act as endings for each heroine, branching off from the main story at various points. To get to those, you have to get a certain delusion trigger and then answer the questions that follow correctly - the story then continues as it normally would, before it finally branches off in that special chapter - so rather than routes, it'd probably be more appropriate to call them endings. Please keep in mind that all of those are only accessible after you finish the game once, so there will be spoilers for the main Chaos;Head story. Anyway, that's enough babbling from me, here's the summary of the first ending I got! Nanami's chapter - daydream Well, what do you think? I've personally enjoyed this ending a lot, since it ended in a very unconventional way that you could hardly call a happy ending, and I personally enjoy stories that go against what's 'right' a lot. I hope you've survived through my horrendous translation and summary 'skills' - if you've liked it, definitely keep an eye on this thread, I will add the rest of the endings as I get them.

  21. > expecting meaningful story And all that from an SS-tier game, that was made on a whim: I really wish they would stop churning those games out like that, or at least polish them more before release. I guess SP decided to pick this one up out of sheer sympathy for the devs, which doesn't necesarilly mean well for their future wellbeing as a publishing company. Right now I'm not even surprised anymore why certain people feel doubt towards SP's current methodology. If they will continue to just release every single indie vn under their banner without any sort of quality control, they can bid farewell to establishing better contacts with the japanese industry. I'm really glad they're supporting the western indie scene so much, but it's about time they start to raise some higher standards and expectations before plastering their name all over those vn's.

I am terribly against this idea due to my experience with such features in the past and really everyone likes to troll no matter how old or new they are using such feature so giving the feature to people with 1000 posts or 100 likes or whatever (plus we have seen how much people can spam in a short amount of time and get many likes or posts in various occasions )wouldn't really help. I would rather have it left in the hands of the mods. So there's no way to make a blank post from a mobile? : <
