  4. I'm sure Rooke is a diehard fan of Nekopara and Sunrider Academy. The writing in Nekopara definitely blew him away and caused him to demand more from VNs like fault milestone.

  5. What is Denpasoft? Denpasoft is a software company based in California with a focus on quality adult visual novel games from Japan and around the world. They strive to acquire titles that fans in the West want to see and enjoy in English. The company is very very young and the few members on the staff are also work in Sekai Project. The staff is made up of industry veterans and fans of japanese bishoujo games of all kinds. The website was created to keep adult titles away from the all age titles. Sekai Project puts most if not all titles on steam and Steam has a strict policy with adult content being directly linked in descriptions and the like plus it's a matter of keeping things legal. The website has not really been updated or worked on for quite some time but a website update/overhaul is in the works. A recent post on Sekai Project's forums explains the current issue with Denpasoft and why it hasn't been updated recently and remember this is a new company; Dovac: "Denpa's lack of updates is sorely due to not having anything ready for it. Now that we have some more titles coming in we will have staff work on it more and update it. Additionally we've been looking at outsourcing store operations mainly because we're just not good at it." This post will change over time as new information is added and old information is depleted. The website went up December 22, 2014. Released: Nekopara vol.1 18+ currently out of stock (this was a physical release the digital version can be downloaded from DLsite) Sunrider Academy 18+ a digital release and still available for purchase. Currently selling for $30.00 Grisaia no Kajitsu/Fruit of Grisaia Unrated 18+ digital release currently selling for $39.99 (unrated means that it has all the original 18+ content but the original japanese mosaics are not uncensored) Sakura Swim Club: An 18+ digital release and the first hentai title of the sakura series. It is currently selling for $9.99. Upcoming: Sacrament Sheep: 18+ Yuri VN announced for eventual release by Denpasoft. According to the twitter the game is currently in beta testing. Those interested in viewing an OP can go here. Atom Grrrl: 18+ Yuri VN announced for eventual release by Denpasoft. Those interested in seeing the OP video for the Japanese version can go https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYui6kvzSOk. Current Denpa News: 09/11/2015 Sakura Swim Club released. This will primarily be used to inform people on any announcements, releases, and other information as well as a place to discuss the company itself.

  6. Personally, I got so used to mosaics that I don't even notice them. And I'd take pixelated stuff over horrendously drawn anatomy any day. However, when it comes to Grisaia... Well, I know that H-scenes without mosaics are extremely rare among official English 18+ releases (I mean, merely 95% of those are completely uncensored, that's very little) and I'm sure that everyone always carefully checks FAQs to find info about it, but I'd say that placing a warning in a visible place might have been a tiny little bit more fair. Also, "unrated edition" is a perfectly meaningless label. O wow, it wasn't rated by ESRB or PEGI. Cool. So what? But, those are minor issues really. The main problem here is that 18+ edition is still nowhere to be found. I can understand technical difficulties, but over 2 months delay of something that should have been released on the same day as the Steam crap is utterly ridiculous. You can probably read the entire trilogy in that time...

  9. The whole "spyware" debate is pretty stupid in my opinion. You're making it sound like Microsoft is the only company doing this or that there's no justification to do this which is ridiculous. Does anyone even read the Terms of Service? This stuff is all written in there, and you agree to it. It's not spyware if you're willingly giving away your information. Is it morally correct? Debatable, I don't personally like it either, but it's hardly anything worth getting upset over, especially when a lot of things related to it can be circumvented and a lot of this data sharing can even be disabled in Windows 10. The reason they do this is to provide a service to you, it's not really difficult to wrap your head around this. Google collects your information too, in fact most devices nowadays collect info about you, but they don't collect said information and then sell it to some illuminati network that wants to know everything about you. If you really want to avoid your information getting shared with corporations, I suggest never using a computer again.

  10. It's also effectively spyware, if you care about that kind of stuff. There's a LOT of things to disable: http://www.reddit.com/r/Windows10/comments/3f38ed/guide_how_to_disable_data_logging_in_w10/ Oh, and one thing I'm really not happy about is P2P Windows Updates. No, I don't want to sacrifice my bandwidth so Microsoft can save some money. WiFi Auto-Sharing ("Sense") is another really weird feature and something I would never feels well knowing it's turned on.

  11. Well, so far. It's not that SP/Denpasoft has some natural aversion to mosaics. Frontwing's unmosaiced CGs are apparently of exceptionally poor quality (so I heard) and were considered unusable. As for Nekopara, there is one adult version of that which was released to the world, in three languages. It isn't like SP took a game that was already made and released an english version of it. In fact, SP/Denpasoft aren't the publishers of the adult version, technically Neko Works are fully responsible for that version. The way that worked is that they contracted SP to translate the 18+ version for them, basically the reverse of what typically happens. Then Neko Works released that version themselves with no decensoring. This is due to the game shipping with all three languages included, and initially (and currently, incidentally) only sold through their own site based in Japan. It's a bummer for people who like uncensored CGs, but that's the story for both games. For what it's worth, none of the Sunrider games have mosaics (which should probably be obvious, since they're OELVNs). I imagine that if their other Japanese partners can provide good quality uncensored CGs, they will be used in the future Denpasoft releases.

  14. LISTS LISTS LISTS LISTS LISTS LISTS LISTS LISTS Some people like to read VNs as soon as humanly possible. Some like to just preview the translations to come. Sometimes a translation is abandoned part way through, never to finish. Whatever reason they may have, many like to read partial translations. Plenty of VNs make this easy due to their route-based structure. You can often get a complete story even if there are only one or two routes available. However, despite there being a resource to list all VNs completely translated, there is none to list those that are only partially translated. This list will encompass both translations currently in progress and those that are not. It will NOT, however, cover the current progress of in-translation projects, it will only tell you how much is available in its released partial patch. If you want to keep up to date of all translations currently in progress, please follow the VNTS updates arranged by Tay and I, and follow the VNTL-Moon update aggregator. Note: This post will not cover interface or machine translations. There needs to be at least some manual translation of the story text. When possible, I will try to link to the project pages, but sometimes those are no longer available. In-progress translations (These are patches for VNs with currently active projects that wish to release a complete translation eventually) Amagami (patch links, copy and paste them from the page) - Translates the first day (project page) Bishoujo Mangekyou -Norowareshi Densetsu no Shoujo- (patch link) - Translates the prologue. (final, fixed patch is almost done) Tenshin Ranman (licensed) - Translates the prologue. Project homepage is down, patch was lost. SP license makes this moot. To Heart 2 XRated (patch link) - 100% translation, but still in an unfinished beta due to having unedited routes. Witch's Garden (patch link) - Translate the prologue. 34. It's probably a font issue indeed. I believe Key games work well with MS Gothic font so if it's possible to change the font, try that. (Or if you don't have it, install it) Windows 10 doesn't suck (compared to Windows 8 especially) but it's still very recent so bugs happen. Windows 8 also had tons of problems with some VNs in its earlier stages.

  44. How To Read Moege 101 - A Comprehensive Guide Preface Many people struggle with learning a second language. If it just so happens that you're trying to learn Japanese, you can probably already tell by now that it's not an easy task. I can relate to the tormenting frustration of desperately wanting to read a certain VN, but being unable to merely due to a lack of Japanese proficiency. Having to look up every word in the dictionary is not only time consuming - it's also actually not that productive because chances are, you won't remember half of what you read. You shouldn't dive into a visual novel that's way above your difficulty level. You need to prepare body and soul with some hearty foreplay. Yes, foreplay. But alas, you don't have the slightest idea as to how you should go about doing that. You have my condolences. That's why I am writing this guide - not to teach you how to read Japanese per se, but to make it easier for you to read your very first untranslated 'moege'. After reading a few on your own, you will start to get the feel of Japanese writing, humour, expressions, and maybe even pick up some kanji. I am merely dropping you off at the doorstep - you still have a long road ahead of you. Good luck. 1) Understanding How Moege Work Moege is derived from the two words, "moe" and "game" (self-explanatory). You're usually going to be paying attention to the characters more than anything else in the game. Sure, they look nice, but what I really mean is their personality. Indeed, personality. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that personality is more important than looks! That only happens in 3D (but let's not get to that right now)... Anyway, there are a select few 'generic' and frankly 'stereotypical' heroine-types that you will find in pretty much every moege. I won't go into too much detail, but I'll describe a few of their unique traits. This will not only help you connect to the heroines better, but it will also help you guess or 'predict' what they are saying (even if you can't read the Japanese) which will be further explained in the next section. I am only going to list five, though I'm sure there are many more out there waiting to assault their onii-chans.The stereotypical heroine archetypes I am going to expand on are: The Tsundere The Senpai The Onee-chan The Klutz The Osananajimi (Childhood Friend) Now, I realize that there may be a tsundere senpai onee-chan klutz osananajimi somewhere out there, but let's leave that for now. Due to popular demand, I will unveil a brand new section for everyone's favourite (including mine) - the imouto. The Imouto 2) Reading Between The Lines Now that you have most of the basic heroine-types nailed down, it's time to learn how to read between the lines (or, "I don't know these words, but judging from their facial expressions, tone, the situation at hand, and their stereotype, I can probably guess what's going on!" for short). The point is that you shouldn't get stuck on a few words you don't know. Sometimes it's best to read through context instead. Like I said before, foreplay. You can grind (hue) all those difficult kanji symbols (that you may or may not ever see again) later. That's all just memorization, and a whole lot of studying. But right now we're tackling a more technical aspect of the Japanese language. Now's the time to sit down and enjoy a moege. 3) Kanji/Vocab You Should Probably Know These are kanji or basic vocab words that you will see in almost every moege. I will add to this list as necessary, so feel free to leave a comment if you think I missed anything key. I will cut it off somewhere so people don't get overwhelmed though, so pick the ones you think show up in 99% of exclusively moege. For now, I will briefly go through them all: 4) Where To Start Honestly, there isn't really a list of VNs I can give you. Besides, that wouldn't be fun. You should read things you think you'll really enjoy. But if moege are not for you, then suck it up. You have to learn to walk before you can learn to run. I guess all I have to say for now is that Cube, ALcot, and Favorite (albeit games by Favorite are harder reads) are all companies that make great moege that are, at the same time, relatively easy to read. If you find yourself bored to death starting out, feel free to pick another game. If you think it's still too hard for you (this is kinda late but make sure you've mastered basic hiragana and katakana), push on through. Don't stumble every time you come across a word you don't know, or you don't know what's going on. Just playing through will help you, even if just a little.
