Radical visual novel ideas.... Share them here!
Hanako and 4 others reacted to LeonidasTan for a topic
Not sure if this has been done before but you the protag, are an 80 year old man and your wife has died. You get sent to an old folks home or maybe an neighbourhood for old people waiting for their time to come. There you meet with 4 other senior citizens. One if them has azeimers disease, the other is a crazy cat lady(because why not), the third is a bed ridden grandmother who has been hit by stroke, the final heroine is an old lady who refuses to act her age. Your goal? Find a way to escape the old folks home and get revenge on your children for sending you there. What were you thinking? Find love as an old man to replace your wife?5 points -
Still in beta, but most of the foundations are already there. I have yet to start on the info section for each visual novel, but will likely place info on the easiest way to legally buy the VNs and stuff. Images need to be resized too. Do help me out on ways I can improve on the layout of the site. My focus is to keep it "Simple and Clean".4 points

What is the one trait that makes you instantly like a heroine?
Nightmare799 and 3 others reacted to Deep Blue for a topic
When the heroine is independent and doesnt behave like a fucking dog chasing around the protagonist's butt, examples of this are lilly in katawa shoujo, haru in senjou no maou, sachi in sharin no kuni etc etc. Preferably not shy and with good humor, well i just dislike the common girl in most of the vns specially the childhood friend which it seems that it cant live without the MC, is air to her lungs >_>4 points -

Propaganda Games: Games becoming real, in the worst way
Toastywafflz and one other reacted to Soulless Watcher for a topic
Now at first glance this seems bad, but isn't really just kinda annoying? Like many games, wouldn't it be incredibly easy to "game" the system. Like sharing several dozen pro-government posts to off-set a single anime import? I can also see a small group of people that dedicate themselves to raising their score and offering to friend other people to raise their score in turn for a small monthly payment. Like all things brand new this specific program will likely end in failure, but it is entirely possible that it will pave the way for something worse latter on.2 points -

I already explained that to someone (Stormwolf probably). You seems read in rush or dunno. It is clear that he is the one, no one else. And there is radio drama 2CD exist, I heard it cover the events in years inbetween. Girl name in spoiler. And last one from the ending: Seems all match. Anyway I cannot think of any other name which could be so important to him, and actually whole story is based on the fact that his sister died, if not that - all the story would probably never happen, as this was the turning point for the main characters.2 points -

The cost of developing an entire professional quality VN is around $200k I think. Adding new content isn't that hard or costly, but rather than squeeze another route in they'd likely make a fandisc. The cost of doing so would probably be $50k or less, which makes for a very reasonable stretch goal. Unfortunately, Kickstarter stretch goals aren't designed to provide value to backers on a cost basis; they're designed to be cheap gimmicks that prime the PR machine without adding much to costs, such that most of the revenue after the initial goal is met is pure profit. In short, there's simply no incentive to provide stretch goals that wouldn't be profitable. No stretch goal at all is better from a business perspective than a stretch goal where revenue equals cost.2 points -

Hey, powerless characters are interesting too. In fact, I'd prefer if I had some more of them to work with. This looks like it's heading in the direction most could-have-been-great-works have gone... Unlimited hiatus works :c On the other hand, if ya can keep things at a good quality, we can wait a bit. And if you think there are too much characters, you can just make a list of the ones that are going to be in this story and leave out others for one to come or something. I do prefer honesty over ambiguity, and even from a reader's perspective, keeping track of a crap load of characters is hard. So do what you feel you must, and fear not our judgement O great Kaguya. We're a community of VN readers after all, our writing standards are pretty low Hidden Content I actually feel like there's not enough characters for a full-on warring states story. Need some more commanders.1 point

I mean, I mentioned a poll.... As for order, yea, I'd like to keep releases in order. Then again, who knows, maybe Minatosoft will release the whole A series as a single game before we finish, and we can just release them all at once(this should not be taken as a commitment to doing them all, nor saying we're not going to release one title at a time; this is a joke, please don't hurt me).1 point -

What is the one trait that makes you instantly like a heroine?
Fred the Barber reacted to CeruleanGamer for a topic
1. I love heroines who are smart, have good education credentials (university grad), and very competitive, like Kurisu Makise and Ema Skye, thus they are my top 2 waifus. 2. I'm fine with virgins but jesus christ, these heroines should know how a penis react, not be shocked that it gets hard and leaks precum. 3. In NTR/forced VNs, I love when the heroine gets corrupted and switches their personality. 4. Tsundere especially when they get embarrassed. 5. I don't care much for hair colors or hairstyles, although I have a slight preference for long haired girls. 6. Not a bitch. Doesnt go around causing drama. 7. Has a good appetite, both with meals and sex. Doesnt do all this dieting nonsense. I seem to have developed a fetish for cute heroines who say "Oishi!" when they eat something delicious.1 point -

KAWASUMIS FUCKING AWESOME 500 POST SPECIAL AmA!
AaronIsCrunchy reacted to Kawasumi for a topic
Are we doing this? YES WE ARE! So, hi fuwa. Im now 500(501) in and being a fuwa "elite" and all I thought it was the perfect occasion to make a post like this. I have been here for around 11 months now so maybe I should have made this post for my 1 year anniversary as Eclipsed did, but hey im doing it now. Although necroing a dead meme is simply not enough for me so im doing it originalrun style and going to thank people here. You see, when I joined I had nothing, I was a bum on welfare, I also felt like shit in every sense of the word, I was shit, the world was shit and my situation was overall shit. But, there was exceptions, for example Visual novels and the community that came with it. So here im sitting now nearly 12 months after, I got into the education of my dreams, I have actual energy, I have a cute girl im seeing atm and my appartment is actually clean for the most part lol. I also got over a pseudo social anxiety I build up from being a borderline NEET at that time that I finally got rid off, which helped me start some new and old IRL relationships up again. The community helped me a great deal to make me reach what I wanted and overcome my fears. Suddenly I had people I could talk to anytime if I felt like shit and I had whole skype chats that wished me luck with my entrance exams, which gave me so much motivation and willpower. So thanks fuwanovel, I love everyone of you, here is to another 500(499) posts! Oh, before I leave Im gonna make this short notice for people I have talked with, again, im sorry if I didnt include you, you're a part of this community as well and that means that I love you to some extend no matter what I have said to you beforehand <3 tl;dr fuwanovel helped me a lot and I love you all @madvanced: dude are you me? But you're always so active over skype and you're pretty nice to talk with at all times, also you have strong opinions about everything, which is nice, especially for someone like me thats super vague about a lot of things @Jptje also one of the awesome talking buddies from skype! Hey we have talked about a lot of random stuff, which is nice! Lets do it more often your awesome to talk to. @AaronIsCrunchy yo! Damn its the NTR queen and I feel that I slowly is getting dragged to the dark side, we havent talked much but you're fascination of NTR is really fascinating me aswell, mostly because I like people that is really interested in a totally specific nieche, apart from that I love how fast you got integrated into our community and I hope you're gonna stay for a long time <3 Also I wanna give a shoutout to all the fuwachat dwellers! Wow this was too long so I need to stop it here, again, im very sorry if I didnt include you and you feel forgotten I will make it up for you in a PM or something <3 Godspeed fuwa!1 point -
Uh well the first thing I would say is add a search function so its easier to find novels. Also maybe consider making a list for each letter instead of "A-F". That way its even easier to navigate. Is this meant to have all available translated novels + patches? If so its seriously lacking at the moment. (Although it is in beta, so that might not be that surprising.) Other than that, it looks pretty good. It sounds like a decent idea. Its nothing you cant find at lets say VNDB, (although they dont list all patches, they link you to the main site of the translators where you can find that info.) That being said, having one site specifically for this stuff might be a good idea indeed.1 point

Dustmania WTF
Tyr reacted to CeruleanGamer for a topic
I tend to rate VNs based on the whole package, not just singular elements. Story, art, voice acting, settings, gameplay (if applicable), h-scenes (if in a nukige or h-heavy VN) etc. I tend to view story and art as more important, obviously, but the others still matter to me. That's why almost no nukige would be a 10 to me, because they sacrifice story for fap material. I think rating something for only one aspect of it is a little strange, but to each their own. Anyway...[/tangent] I am more for ratings on a vn's purpose. Story and characters are great elements to have but I value the purpose more. If it's a galge/otome, I prefer that the artwork must be at least decent and the relationships are handled nicely. If it's a nakige, I expect to shed some tears and if it does that well and not too forced, then the game did its job. If it's a nukige and all the sexual elements presented are to my liking and satisfy most of my fetishes then I wouldnt mind giving nukiges a 9-10 rating even if the story/characters are crap.1 point -
Are you gonna implement a hard formula so we can get a solid feel on overall power levels, Kaguya-hime Something like Posts have a 1 power value, ie. 1,000 posts = 1,000 powerLikes have a 2 power value, ie. 1,000 likes = 2,000 powerSo I (4,288 + (1000*2) = 6,288) would be stronger than Kosaki (4,644 + (690*2) = 6,024), but we both individually get rekt by Flutterz (4,123 + (1,728*2) = 7,579) So spamming isn't the way to victory!?1 point

What Anime are you watching now?
Eclipsed reacted to Fred the Barber for a topic
I thoroughly enjoyed Magi as well, when I watched it; solid story, characters, pacing, art - it nails the essentials. Although for some reason I, also, have not made time to watch season 2 of it... but someday, I certainly will. I finally finished Accel World over the weekend. I mostly feel relieved to be done with it; it wasn't bad per se, but it wasn't especially good either. I watched it just because a close friend (actually the only fellow otaku I regularly talk to in real life) recommended it to me; I won't do the same to you. Accel World is a solid Don't Watch. It's got a mess of a plot, very few likeable characters (and mostly simply not believable ones, which if you're familiar with my [low] standards means that they are really not at all believable), and a really arbitrary motivating backstory. While the "accelerated world" is kind of interesting at times, the rules always feel way too arbitrary; the writer just invents whatever is convenient at the time and then explains it away. Lazy. If you're going to invent some big magic-like system, it's way more interesting to impose more constraints up-front, and then make those constraints work for you; Accel World mostly uses the acceleration powers and burst link powers as a massively boring deus ex machina. But really, the worst is the characters. The second season villain is the worst cackling crazy inexplicably evil villain I've seen in a long, long time. Once again: lazy. After wrapping that up, I needed something good, so I picked up Bunny Drop. Holy shit is it good so far. It completely hooked me in one episode (one episode to first tears shed; new record), and I had to really restrain myself to stop after two episodes (I'm trying to savor it).1 point -

"It's a Good Day to Die" - Fuwanovel & XCOM
Funyarinpa reacted to kyrt for a topic
Mission 4: Operation Fading Sleep Alien Intelligence Reports I took a break from XCOM when fallout 4 came out and while I'm still playing that and Witcher 3 the recent videos and information released on XCOM 2 have gotten me back in the mood for XCOM. I still plan to go through an entire game (winning or losing) before XCOM 2 is released bu we'll have to see. This particular mission was pretty easy (and designated easy and that's partially because I was hoping to be able to upgrade one of the units so I could get squad size increase but unfortunately that is proving a bit elusive with picking random people each time. Hopefully it doesn't cause me to wipe in the future. I also have to say I was quite impressed with Funnerific this round for taking 3 enemies out at once with a rocket...had that attack not connected I imagine at least one of the four would have died.1 point -
That's a slippery slope. Unfortunately, that doesn't help in most cases. です (desu) frequently doesn't translate directly into an English word. Instead, it is usually an indicator of a speech mode, in this case the 敬体 (keitai) (formal) mode, also referred to as 敬語 (keigo) or ですます (desumasu) style because of the syllables it uses. A sentence written in ですます is no different in literal meaning than one written in 常体 (joutai) (casual) mode. However, it is usually considered a more polite and formal style of speech. You can consider it the difference between responding to a request by saying "Yeah, sure" (casual) or "I shall." (formal). Same meaning, but you get a different impression of the speaker by how it is said. It would be used when speaking to someone of higher rank, for example. Even more unfortunately, what we have here is *misuse* of the speech mode, in a way that suggests a low intelligence speaker. E.g., normally 'desu' would be correct to use at the end of some of her sentences, but she uses even when she shouldn't, as if she doesn't understand the actual grammatical rules for her mode of speech. It's hard to come up with an English equivalent 'quirk' that carries both the implication of respect and formally combined with stupidity. But however hard it is, or inaccurate, almost anything is better than tossing in a Japanese word that is a grammatical concept rather than an English word. (The actual discussion of different speech modes and keigo vs teineigo vs bikago could take forever, and produce shouting matches between professorial experts, so it is best not to think much about it here)1 point
