In my experience, it typically goes like [Random kissing ensues] Female A: "Protag-kun, I feel something hard against me" Male A: "I don't know how that happened." Female A: "It looks painful, I'll relieve it for you" [Oral sex follows] Male A: "I'm sorry I ejaculated all over your face, here's a tiss- oh wait you're eating it all up, why are you doing that pls stop" Female A: "It's okay, it tastes good because it's yours. But it looks like you're still hard, which is physically impossible, guess I have no choice but to have sex with you now even though I'm a virgin and know nothing about sex" Male A: "Guess it can't be helped" [Virgin protag proceeds to display his amazing sex prowess while the girl enjoys having her vagina bleed to death]8 points

Reinforcing the beautiful myths about katanas

There are those moments where you've seen it at least 900 billion times to the point you can predict everything what's going to happen even the character dialogues. What are some VN kinks, tropes, cliches, stereotypes, and common logic flaws you want to be toned down or even completely eliminated? Well I have probably 100+ but I'll post my top 5 for now and reply/add more as I see people post theirs. 1. School setting - Does "everything" have to happen in school mainly in high school? Umineko, Ever17, and Steins;Gate disagree. You can have a great plot while in college, workplace, or outside of school. Make more original settings please Japanese Devs. Heck, even a vn that happens in the bathroom, in church/mosque, or under a bridge is better than in (high) school. 2. Protagonist walks into a room, sees a heroine naked - "Ecchi, hentai, baka, baka!!!!!" Poor, innocent protagonist is now labeled a pervert. Good bye logic? Wait... Bitch, why don't you lock the room if you don't want to be seen especially if you are aware that a man is in the house?! 3. "Damee! Yamete!" - Apparently "No!", "Stop!" and "You can't!" means "Yes!", "More!", and "Keep going!" in visual novels' "sexy" time? Imagine if the protagonist actually stops every time she says that? That would be absolutely hysterical. 4. Alone/Unhappy protagonist - Maybe a good 95% VN protagonists start out as a single man, poor, loner, and/or a virgin. Can there be a vn where the protagonist is already successful and actually a socialite? It might look like there's not much to work with the story, but successful, rich socialites have problems too you know. 5. Dates with heroines are linear/predictable - only consists of shopping, going to restaurants, movies (almost all VN dates have this), and possibly a love hotel if the date nails a critical hit. Not sure if the storywriters have been in dates before, but I can think of 50+ other things I could do while dating, not just those 3-4 things.3 points

1. Someone make a petition to abolish school settings, please. The reason I dislike school settings most of the time is not because I think school settings can't work, it's because most of the time it's simply there as a plot device to make the characters have classes and have an easy excuse to meet each other, but other than that it never serves any logical purpose half the time. I know it's because of the whole "highschool girl" fetish, but still, it's stupid if it's just there for the sake of being there. 2. "The beautiful transfer student", I'm sooooooooo tired of seeing this trope, it's the biggest cop out to introduce a character ever and I generally tend to hate whoever the heroine is, unless they make a good excuse for their existence. Why is it that a main character always has to magically transfer into a school in the middle of a freaking semester? I just don't get it. This is also the result of having mandatory school settings in everything. 3. Sex talk in VNs is also pretty horrible sometimes. Now I know Japanese pornography is different than western pornography in that they usually tend to have a lot of descriptive dialogue, but while I'm used to and enjoy it most times, sometimes it gets so ridiculous, like the heroine describing how the protagonist's penis is going down her throat while she's actively sucking on it. You don't have to tell me, I can see it happening, and you sound like you have a baguette stuck in your mouth! 4. Protagonists who just want to live a peaceful, undisturbed life. To some extent, I can sympathize with someone who just wants peace and quiet, I myself enjoy it too, but why are so many protagonists like this, and why are so many protagonists like this actively getting involved in shit they know is going to ruin their peace and quiet? Japan pls. 5. [MOTHER FUCKING SAKURA PETALS EVERY FUCKING WHERE I CAN'T EVEN SEE 5 FT IN FRONT OF ME] 6. Ejaculating inside and never getting anyone pregnant. Because it's a safe day every day of the month. 7. "Asspussy". No. It's an ass. 8. "Mouthpussy". No. It's a mouth. 9. "*anything*pussy". Go fuck yourself.3 points

Hello, I'm Helrouis (EL-row-yis) - My apologies for the chuuni nickname I set a decade ago. Nice to meet you all, I decided to join the forums and try to do something better than being a dweller for another year... My English may be a little odd... So if I accidentally make poppycock humour, please bare with me (Yes, get nude with me and go with the flow!) I know very little Japanese, and love to read both Western and Japanese Visual Novels a lot... Albeit slightly a heretic for not bothering with the Vita. My favorite visual novels - Muv-Luv, Ever 17, Stein's;Gate, Clannad, Fault Milestone, Schwarzesmarken, Tsukihime and more. Kickstarters I supported - Muv-Luv, Sunrider, and Libra. I'm currently supporting Root Double as well since they're from the makers of Ever 17. I feel it's the only way to get an Ever 17 official release sadly it's not doing well D; Favorite waifus - I like La Folia and Sayaka from Strike the Blood, Sumika from Muv-Luv, Akiha from Tsukihime, Kyou from Clannad, Kurisu from Stein's Gate, Sakura from Fate Stay/Night and a lot more. I have mixed tastes according to my closest friends, and I humbly disagree. I hope your thoughts are the same as well! I work as a game developer and community manager for a living. Life's very tough in my country. Ok, that's all for now. Thanks for the time reading! (`・ω・)ゞ2 points

Please recommend some VN to my to-read list
Dergonu and one other reacted to ChaosRaven for a topic
Something you should consider if you are checking VNDB ratings is that it's extremely important to know WHAT you are looking for. The VNDB rating isn't just a measurement for quality, it's also a bit of a mind-fuck-meter. A rating how screwed up the content is. I give you an example from my earlier VN times when I was still young and naive: One day I was just looking for a nice feel-good moege and was picking Sharin no Kuni because it was highly rated and I liked the art. The VN started quite nice with the protagonist walking peacefully in the fields. Then a girl came running by and I thought, hey she's really cute, I'll probably go for her route first. The next thing that happened was... a guy appeared, shot her in the head and she died. I was actually so shocked that I rage uninstalled and didn't touch the VN again for at least half a year. Another example: Ef - A fairy tale of the two looks like a very beautiful moege and also has a pretty good rating of 8,2. Now, ef is one of the only VN's that got an ESRB rating and MangaGamer posted it 1 - 2 years ago without saying for what VN it was just to see the reaction. Almost everyone thought it was for Euphoria: Adults Only 18+, Blood, Nudity, Sexual Violence, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content. And so far ef is the only VN where I had to stop reading in the route of one of my most favorite heroines because it was so depressing that I couldn't continue anymore. And then I played Kara no Shoujo... *dies* Anyway, the whole point of those examples is to show that a high rating doesn't necessarily mean that a title is 'better' than others, it can also mean that it is simply 'different'. Usually, if I'm looking for a feel-good moege, then I look for ratings between 6.5 and 8.0. If it's higher than 8.0 then you're most likely already in nakige or even worse - utsuge territory. But there's another factor which is at least or even more important than the pure rating: The vote count. Many people who don't like a VN simply don't vote for it or they are so uninterested in that they don't even bother to try it. That's the reason why there are some highly rated titles with much lower vote counts. In case of popular moeges, many people follow the hype and then bash the title because they expected more serious story content. Nukiges are even lower rated than moeges by default, so you can enjoy even titles with a rating of a lowly 5. Story titles, including nakige and utsuge, are the most highly rated titles on VNDB. Usually, they get at least a 6 just for trying even if it's the biggest crap ever written. The good ones usually have a rating of at least > 8.0. If they are lower they aren't good or they have a certain style not everyone likes (Liarsoft titles come to mind). The best titles like F/SN or G-Senjou have both a very high rating and a high vote count. So in short words, the vote counts indicates how popular a title is while the rating stands not just for quality but also how sophisticated its content is. Shuffle might just have a rating of slightly below 7, but it has a vote count of almost 2.500. You won't find a lot of VN's with a comparable vote count. For obvious reasons time also matters. But most VN's will never get such high vote counts regardless how old they are. I guess that got longer than intended, but human "voting psychology" is quite fascinating. I usually also compare EGS and VNDB ratings and sometimes even those have vast differences I have a hard time understanding.2 points -
VN Review : Ever17 -the out of infinity-
Darklord Rooke and one other reacted to NukeExplodes for a topic
Ever 17 was a visual novel I really wanted to play ever since I began my cruise towards the visual novel world with Umineko. It is the second oldest visual novel I've played, the oldest one being Tsukihime. It fascinated me when I read the synopsis,so after finishing Killer Queen,I tackled it as my first game of 2016. I finished it in 10 days and now I am ready to review it.But before I actually delve into the good and the bad of Ever 17,I need to tell you what I expected of this particular game. - A solid plot - Good writing - Music that doesn't bore you to death - Character development Now let's cut to the chase. What did I think of Ever 17 -the out of infinity- ? Art (8/10) For a visual novel released in the early 2000's,this is impressive. The art had feeling in it,and it had a good style. The only problem I had with the art is how it changes between the sprites and the CG images. The sprites are a bit worse than the CG art,and if it wasn't for the CG art,I would've given the art a 6.5 instead of an 8. Sound (8/10) My expectations were fulfilled with the sound part. The music and the voice acting are very good. For the music,it was no Umineko but it was very emotional and it never failed to make the mood (especially for Karma). The voice acting was also very good.I didn't even expect any voice acting Story (9/10) Plot-wise,Ever 17 was pretty good.It never failed to amuse me or make me cry, which is what not many visual novels can do these days. However, there is one thing that Ever 17 wouldn't be a good story without : The Final Route. When I played the first two routes, for the most time I was bored.I wanted it to finish faster, which is bad. This was filled in with Sara's route, and then Coco's route was a heel-face turn.If there were only three routes : Tsumugi,Sora and You,I would have given the story at most a 4.For the effort, and for Tsugumi. I will now rate the five routes one by one. Tsumugi's Route (7/10) Sora's Route (5/10) Sara's Route (8/10) You's Route (6/10) Coco's Route (10/10) Anyone who has played this game knows how superior the last route is to the other four. However,it could have been better...I expected a much darker ending. Characters (8/10) The characters in this story were very interesting, including the protagonist(s).Tsumugi was my favorite character from the start, and she reminded me of Yumiko from Grisaia.Yeah, she was a slimmer Yumiko with smaller boobs and a lack of scalpel. That ripped my heart out and threw it in the washing machine in question. Then there was Sora. Also very interesting. And You...not so much in my opinion.Sara, she was also interesting, and Coco was my favorite loli/imouto in all visual novels of all time. And of course, let's not forget the Kid and Takeshi. Not too shabby, gets better tho. Enjoyment (10/10) I enjoyed this visual novel, simply put. Overall - 8/10 Why such a 'small' rating? This visual novel must deserve better! Welp, let's go play Sharin no Kuni next2 points -

They're both not what I'd recommend for someone whose VN lists consists of Kono Oozora, though they're good stories. Planetarian is valid, but I'm kinda eeeh on Eden for you. Personally, I'd take a look at Symphonic Rain if you want a romance story with good drama (and don't mind poor graphics), Kara no Shoujo if you'd like mystery, Phenomeno if you want to be spooked, Grisaia if you want a wish-fulfillment game, Hanachirasu for a revenge story, Ayakashibito for action, Remember11 if you want to think and Hoshimemo if you want a romance story that's not quite as heavy as SR. That said, you should always read whatever picks your interest. Both of the games Dergonu suggested are solid short visual novels that are worth a try. Just go with whatever you want to, I guess.2 points

Maybe Shuffle! will fit your taste. It is kind of that standard harem romance, but with unique heroines, a fun fantasy setting and its not too long, so you don't get bored of the same repeated stuff before you finish the novel.2 points

I was going to do an exact same thread but you beat me to it 6. The old childhood friend (osananajimi) waking up the MC, fuck this trope! specially when the mc is a dick to the heroine but she is just in love with him just because... I'm actually very curious to know if this happens in Japan for real... Who the hell wakes up early every single day for several years just to wake up another person?most of the time without even asking... it almost sounds like a sociopath... 7. All the heroines are in love with the mc since the first time they saw him without any reason at all. saw him = instant love. Specially when the mc is bland and doesn't even talk most of the time... he is there doing nothing, going to school everyday and yet has 6 girls madly in love with him O.o2 points

Funny how you just listed all the things I like in VNs Also if I have not understood wrong, don't girls always mean the opposite they say?2 points

Root Double- Before Crime * After Days - Kickstarter launched!
BookwormOtaku and one other reacted to Clephas for a topic
I honestly can't say they set up the Kickstarter intelligently... they should have at least done a $1 tier for those who don't have a lot of money on hand. Backers are backers, and money is money. Also, there has been a critical lack of community reach-out in the case of this VN, in comparison to Mikandi's efforts with Libra. If they seriously want this backed, they are going to need to really push it, since it is an extremely niche game. If it gets over the ninety-thousand mark by this time next week, I'll pour some money into it, but otherwise I want to avoid locking up my cash in a project that the company involved isn't showing much enthusiasm for or intelligence in pushing. Edit: Also, the tiers themselves are a bit... weird. The exponential increases in amounts required for the different tiers past the first few doesn't leave any gaps for those who are willing to put down a good amount of money but don't want to spend several thousand or several hundred dollars. If you take a good look at the more successful game projects, you'll see a much lower gap between the lower tiers. To me, it looks like Sekai Project didn't really think it out very well before they created the Kickstarter for this... in other words, they didn't take the backer mentality into account very well.2 points -

Since we're closing in on the end of Kickstarter, there's a few things I'd like share with my friends here at Fuwanovel before we move onto the next step. If you haven't checked out our "Making of Libra" movie, please consider giving it a watch. Thanks Filmed, Edited, Directed and Produced by Project Manager, James ----- Sumimasen, obligatory promo mention incoming! m(_ _)m ------- There's an off-site promotion we've been running that's open to all backers (old and new, of any pledge level $1+): "Bring a Soldier to Battle" Giveaway. This is running now until the campaign's end in 4X hours from now. Here's how it works... Bring a friend to back Libra for at least $35. Both of you will receive a color-copied Iris shikishi ($10 value) for FREE. Then, both of you will be entered for a chance to win a rare, 60-page art book signed by Risa Miyasu-san (artist for Shuma, Calen, Mari and Iris). The photo is of Producer MOKA and Mayumi Shindo-san (voice of Mari) each holding a copy of Miyasu-san's book during the AMA we did a few weeks ago. There's no limit to how many friends you can bring. Each friend you bring, your name and theirs will enter the drawing as a couple. You bring 5 different friends, that's 5 times your name is in the drawing. If your name is drawn, you and your friend each receive a copy of Risa's 60-page, autographed art book! Once you've gotten a friend to back us, both of you should contact us as soon as possible through direct message. The giveaway will be held in the weeks follwing the Kickstarter. NOTE: This promotion is not retroactive. ----- Finally, there's that quote from Producer MOKA that I like to go back to when whenever I think about why I decided to get involved with this project. "In an environment where foreign players get Japan's newest games, that will help pull the industry into a new future. There are many makers like us, and so many games that can come to you. I want to create new moe for everybody, so please support this project, and let's make new moe together in the future. That's my hope." We know not everyone cares for Libra, or even visual novels ("What the heck are those?!?!") and that's fine. I'm simply humbled to be playing a role -- practically any role -- in bringing vn's to a place where more people can discover and *enjoy them. *I hope that's the case2 points -

Sarah); some changes to Andrea - Landmark names - Landmarks have been changed accordingly with the exception of the Wakamoto express which will stand true to its homage *salute*. - School system - British system; think about A-levels - School events - Mostly the same; adapted to fit with culture. - Schedules and habits - Changing them to reflect the new location. - Mindstorm- Some changes. - Route framework- Pretty much the same. - Mindstorm info - Unchanged save for mythology adjustments on the sci-fan end; sci-fi remains the same - Clothing - Unchanged, uniforms will remain the same also as well as any fanservice resulting in their use. - Flag events - In discussion. Possibly 1 or 2 flags to keep narrative consistent. - Exploration segments - Unchanged mostly - House combing - Still thinking about how we insert this. - Nighttime events - Mostly moved to later development. - Geotags - Overhauled to match the new location and lore. - Audio logs - overhauled to match changes. Need to think about distribution. - Art club - Changed in how it’s made and its cultural side, but quite similar. - Club events - Changed to reflect new school system. - Romance and lovey dovey stuff- Almost completely unchanged. May include a couple of British cultural references tho. That's all for the moment, we'll keep you guys updated. It might be abit late but: HAPPY NEW YEAR 2016! Many thanks for your support! It means the world to us!! Kind regards, Red Lattice Studio Team.2 points -

Kind & Hardworking 'She fell in love because of his kindness and his hardworking nature' While i know that being nice is a good trsit to have it's not a reason to base all of your love on that trait alone. What'll you do if you meet someone nicer than Protag-kun? Dump his sorry ass? 3. Shy Trap A personal preference but i'm pretty tired of seeing this one. Yeah you know in many Trap VN the protag is always shy when disguising as a girl? I mean i get it they're embarrassed and all but still... 8. Blatant character archetypes. For fuck's sake, put a spin on things! It's just boring to see a tsundere or kuudere or whatever at this point. I really want to see more varied heroines, your character is not deep enough if her mannerisms can be summed up in a single word. 1b. Suspension Of DisbeliefTM Proudly Presents: A High School Where Somehow Everyone Is Over 18 I just want stuff to make sense, this is up there with the "2000 year old dragon that looks like a middle schooler" stuff. It's just annoying. 9. Pussyfest I'd like to see more VNs with an actually balanced set of characters, too many VNs have the (almost) only male character be the MC. It'd lead to more complex character interactions and a more believable cast overall. Vice versa goes for the protagonists, we need more female protags both in terms of romance and overall. Playing the same Everyday Takeshi in every VN is bland after a while. 10. Teenagers everywhere For fuck's sake, can't we just have more VNs (especially nukige) that are about people of 25-40 years of age? Highschool-level casts get old incredibly fast, and you can only develop a bunch of high schoolers' character interactions so far. It's a fact that people develop more unique and varied personalities as they grow up, moreover, a given group of adults can be in far more varied circumstances compared to teenagers (e.g. most teenagers go to high school, whereas adults can be doing anything from doing cubicle work to being in the army to frequenting casinos to leading a jobless, modest life). We need more VNs that focuses on ages beyond high school, the genre's suffering for it. 11. Moege1 point

G-Senjou no Maou has a fairly simple branching system, there are basically four branch points peppered throughout the story (one each in Chapters 2 through 5), so each characters' route branches off at a different point in the main story. There aren't a ton of choices and it's mostly just being nice to the girl in question. There are a few non-obvious choices that might be a little annoying, though.1 point -
Nyaa nyaa sounds too much like a taunt. I would prefer meow meow. I'm all for it. In fact, I don't think many couples actually start out dating while being in love. Usually it's an exploration between the two on some sort of attraction they find in each other, to see if there is the potential for love if everything goes right. In other words, trial and error. So the real question is, if the person asks and you accepted, what is it that made you accept? Either there's something in the person that you felt was worth exploring into possibly having a relationship with, possibly falling in love someday. Or, you just can't say no for some reason. 21 + 21 = ?1 point

That sucks :s Though I'm kinda intrigued as for why you couldn't keep any of the script he had already completed? (if he has completed any, that is) As a piece of advice, I'd recommend you trying to search writers on fanfiction.net, especially on the anime fandom (Steins;Gate / Fate being the most prolific). I'm doubtful it will help you to recruit on Fuwa (or even Lemma). Sure you might find skilled writers, but the issue is more on the commitment side, people on fanfiction are generally used to writing regularly for a long period of time, and they actually get feedback on their work to improve. themselves. But that often comes at the cost of recruiting someone that might not be familiar with Visual Novel narration / scripting / tropes, etc. Your project is really well done, and a lot of attention has been given to the details, so even people not familiar with the medium would be excited to participate in a project like yours.1 point -
