  1. They dont have names, they are called by order of my writing them: 1: In a ghastly shade, Where residue of emotions lies, A sharp emptiness, with the bite of a blade, A sharp silence, within which every human cries, Silent cries, penetrate with the sound of strife, A 4th dimention created for those, Who cannot stabilise, Their desire for life. 2: Soaring seas, breaking apart, A vision distorted, beyond our comprehension, Surreal thoughts created by my mind, A literary distortion, What Ive read, what Ive seen, what Ive experienced, Mingle and entangle, To create the chaos of my reality, I do not remember anymore, what is real, What is a memory, And what I imagined, what I wished. I live a half life, Or maybe, A double life with half the meaning. 3: A noble obligation, to live, create, perform, To out do the last generation, to up their ideals and their form, I suffocate in my own aristocracy, in my own pretentions, Set my goals too high, but fail to chase those aspirations, A shade of my former self, A self I barely remember, A self fragile and beautiful, a porcelain doll, Set on the shop self, To be bought, to be sold, A toy. 4: A grotesque outline of a world I abandoned, A burnt cinder, the love I found abandoned, A realm of imagination, again Im abandoned, A solitary tear, that is all that I can handle, For truly, cast away, Humanity is what I abandoned. 5: All my previous ladies have few photos with me, Although in their mind they propably have many photos of me, Their mental photos full of hate of me, Remember a girl who always thought of "me", They forget the moments that I abandoned my beliefs, my stigma for them, the times I lost my "me", And I dont know about you but thats sad for me. They hate me, Detest me, Even though they were everything to me. Is this how I feel when everything fails me? 6: A colourful light, Sparks that play roles of shadows, Casting through an open window, A colourful light, Early, pinkish dawn, Sharply reflecting off of the skin, Of Gods incarnation laying amongst bed sheets. The light seems almost fractal, almost perfect, In the imperfection on her skin, I see Gods work. The light freckles that adorn her cheeks, Cheeks of pure white, bright as lilies, The same lilies that will decorate her funeral casket, As the light seeks deeper, as if looking for her beauty, Reflecting off her bare chest, Stomach, Thighs, Neck, Synergy of a form complete, They brand me a heretic, because looking at this cannon, I cannot help but conclude, That if God indeed exists. God must have the shape of a female. 7: Quam amoena, The way the sound falls on my lips, Like rosepetals that flood my world, Each a delicacy that lasts a lifetime, A single moment, compromised of an eternity of lifetimes, Each different, yet the same, Quam amoena, The petals like silk, Touch my lips, allow me to kiss, In my dying moments, As I lay in an ocean of blood, Quam amoena that today, I finally get to die. 8: Imagine a desert, An eternal world of emptiness. The material is immaterial, Snow, sand, concrete, space, All that is consequential is the emptiness. Now imagine a solitary figure amongst the dunes, Wrapped in cloth, holding a sword. A plain sword, damascus steel from an age long gone. Crismon is the primary colour of her clothing, A strange contrast to the gray surroundings. As you try to grasp her appearance, you find it impossible, As her figure flows, ever so softly, like a mountain stream. The moment you see an image, it is long gone into nothingness. And you realise she has no form, An outcast, forgotten. As you leave the scene, filled with sadness, Take one look back at her emptiness, at her darkness, Open your eyes, breathe deeply, feel alive And know you survived, Seeing the inside of my mind. 9: Burn you distance, Burn your self righteousness The apocalypse has come, the world has ended, God has abandoned us, God has stuck a middle finger at his creation, Picked up a bottle of vodka, poured it into his liver, And went to make a new better world. Sad, or maybe its not, Because how can truth be sad if truth is the only reality and reality is simply beautiful? Fuck your truism, Fuck what I think, Fuck me, fuck you, fuck everyone, Banal, Maybe I should make the metaphor of pandoras box, Just to fit with this cliche? 10: I cant sleep, I cant really be awake either, My world revolves around ezoterisms, The ezoterism of my own being, My world revolves around these People I use These procents I consume This music I abuse This poetry I destroy myself with When I used to still care about my life I used to cut, bleed crimson on the bright white floor tiles Now that Ive given up I cut my mentality with this poetry Mental self harm 11: There are moments when words just dont flow, Emotionless nights when apathy and darkness consumes it all, There are moments when the words overflow, A hateful river, flooding the plains of your world, Between nihilism and destruction, My plain resides, A 4th dimention, Full of self lies. 12: Will anyone cry, when I am layed to rest, A thought every person has, an easy thought, An easy thought to make me cry however, When I realise that while anyone will cry, Everyone will cry, They will all cry for the wrong me, When my parents weep for their daughter, My previous lovers weep from happiness that their object of hate is gone, My friends will weep for their sister, And I will weep for the potential that never became Never became anything at all 13: Drops slowly dropping of the celing, My eyes follow them, lazy, my retinas peeling Away the fractal nature of this moment, this feeling, An emotion that is always too far, but somehow to close to my own begining, A trace of love, a trace of erotism, A trace of my long lost heart A trace of my oversized egoism The path of the drop, as if tracing the path of hate that I have so often traveled, Slowly progressing, gravity pulling it towards its epitath, A sad end, but fitting, For the last drop of blood that sustained my living. Any feedback, negative or positive is welcome! <3

  2. So I made it to 500 posts. You may be thinking I've gotten to it through means like spamming...and you'd be right, but I just love these forums that much. I haven't dedicated this much time into a single site for a long time and all the people here are pretty cool folks. It's not like I care for you guys at all I'll get into the mentions later, but I'd like to tell my story first. Yes I know I'm being selfish. Plz don't crucify me Anyways, back to what I was getting to, I decided to join these forums on a whim thinking it'd be fun for a little while and then I'd leave, but these discussions I've had and the chat have made me stay here way longer than I'd ever thought I would. @Kaguya You've been a pretty cool guy to chat with, even though you and I have quite the contrasting opinions most of the time. At least we can agree chuunige is the best genre @Clephas You gave me some resources for learning Japanese and you showed me those lists of untranslated VNs to play, which inspired me to look further into VNDB for me. I thank you a lot for that. What would these forums do without your vast knowledge? @CeruleanGamer My onee sama and fellow spammer, you've been a pretty cool person to talk to in the chat and other places I won't name. @Dergonu You joined around the same time and have a higher post count than me, but you're a funny guy to talk to. @Kawasumi You're a fucked up son of a bitch and a cool guy to talk to. A lot of my reputation has come from you and you also like the same music as I. I hope to continue to share music between us. @Flutterz I've had some pretty cool discussions with you in the chat. You're a cool guy despite what you say about yourself. Keep being moe as hell @Canicheslayer We've had a few discussions in the forums and you and I have similar tastes in VNs. That's a good thing, we can be good friends now And of course the chat people I've met @greenshadow622 @Totodile @Nashetania @12kami @Ayana @gijimu who I've gotten along with in the chat. You've made the chat fun for me. Along with @Flutterz Thanks for making these forums such an enjoyable place for me and everybody else.

  5. Common route? WTF is that trash? Arent I suppose to just meet and fuck the girl without any of these nonsense? After the chapter/segment that introduces all heroines, I tend to skip common routes because most of them are filler/comedy shit anyway.

  6. Seems like they've, finally, gotten most things straightened out on this Kickstarter; any reasonably-addressable complaint I've seen so far on this forum (i.e., discarding unreasonably expensive suggestions like creating new merch or making a physical Vita release happen, somehow) has been addressed. I guess we'll just have to wait and see, now...

  8. My favorite genre, as most of you probably know, is chuuni. Chuuni is a genre where the protagonist is generally at the center of events, able to effect those events, and the story is generally filled with melodramatic plot and spoken lines, meant to be taken absolutely seriously. An example of chuuni anime, for example, would be Fate/Zero or Code Geass (to give you an idea of what to look for). Chuuni comes from the word 'chuunibyou', which is a common stage of development for teenagers, when they desperately want to believe they are more than they are and sometimes even convince themselves they are more than they are. Many people who get addicted to fantasy and science fiction tend to get addicted during this stage of their lives, and it is also a stage of life that people generally look back on with embarrassment once they get over it. This is the reason why the Japanese stuck 'byou' onto the end of the word, which has the same kanji as the one for disease, lol. For those who simply enjoy fantasy and melodrama for the wild ride it can give, chuuni is pretty much the ultimate genre. Chuuni also tends to tackle philosophical issues that get left by the roadside as people mature, simply because people start thinking that it is somehow embarrassing or pretentious to consider such issues as if they were the first person to do so ever. Not to mention that many of the best writers in the otaku industry write chuuni VNs, light novels, and manga. This is because it is a genre, similar to the ero genre, which simply has none of the limits that other genres tend to put on themselves. That said, here I am going to put down a list of chuuni VNs, both translated and untranslated, for the reference of fanboys. Translated Muv-luv Alternative Fate/stay Night Tsukihime Comyu (partly translated) Eien no Aselia Yumina Kagetsu Tooya Phantom of Inferno Demonbane G-Senjou no Maou (yes, it is chuuni, and even though I don't personally like this game, it is nonetheless a technically good game) Sharin no Kuni Sekien no Inganock Rewrite (yes, it is chuuni... it was deliberately written to be chuuni) Umineko no Naku Koro ni Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Shikkoku no Sharnoth Soul Link Grisaia no Kajitsu Cross Channel Koihime Musou Ayakashibito Understand, I'm mostly listing all of these to give you a sense of just how wide the chuuni genre is. While games like Comyu, Tsukihime, and FSN are most commonly labeled as such, games such as Sharin no Kuni and G-Senjou can be included for their degrees of melodrama, complex plot twists and turn-arounds, and attempts at hedge philosophy. This should also tell you that a lot of translators are hidden chuuni fans, to one degree or another. If nothing else, chuuni games are full of content that is well-considered and thought out, which tends to attract those with the passion and interest for translation. To an extent, games like Hoshizora no Memoria also have chuuni elements, albeit not strongly enough to consider them primarily as chuuni games. Untranslated Evolimit Bullet Butlers Chrono Belt Devils Devel Concept Dies Irae Draculius Eden* Abyss- Homicide Club Futagoza no Paradox Hapymaher Ikusa Megami Zero Jingai Makyou Sinclient Ruitomo Soukoku no Arterial Soukou Akki Muramasa Sousei Kitan Aerial Tiny Dungeon (entire series) Tokyo Babel (non-ero, for those who prefer things that way) Vermillion Bind of Blood Yurikago Yori Tenshi made Bloody Rondo Boku ga Tenshi ni Natta Wake (avoid this if you are scared of utsuge) Danzai no Maria Electro Arms Gleam Garden no Shoujo Gekkou no Carnevale Gurenka Hello,good-bye Legend Seven Owaru Sekai to Birthday Para-sol Shinigami no Testament Shinjisougeki Carnival Shuumatsu Shoujo Gensou Alicematic Soranica Ele '&' Sora no Mukou de Sakimasu you ni Trouble@Vampire Tsubasa wo Kudasai Bloody Call Gensou no Idea Shin Koihime Musou ExE Gothic Delusion Fortissimo (every version) Heliotrope - Sora wa Shi ni Itaru Kami no Ai (this one is both an utsuge and has a sort-of hetare protag, so it is an acquired taste) Innocent Bullet Jesus 13th Kajiri Kamui Kagura Kouyoku no Soleil Noel Secret Game/Killer Queen (the entire series) Seinarukana (Aselia sequel) 11eyes Shoujo Shin'iki 3 Days Tokeijikake no Leyline Yatohime Zankikou Zero Infinity Izuna Zanshinken 8/13/2014 edit Hello, Lady Bradyon Veda Soushuu Senshinkan Gakuen Hachimyoujin Houkago no Futekikakusha There are a few genres that chuuni is almost completely incompatible with, such as 'original' or pure moege, but to make a good story, with decent drama, it is almost impossible to avoid putting something with chuuni elements in it. The truest sign of chuuni influence is melodrama, after all. Even the nakige genre has chuuni influences, as can be seen in Clannad and Air, (the reincarnation issues in Air, and the general melodramatic emotion-pulling that made Clannad so popular). For the fun of it, try picking up chuuni elements in your favorite anime and video games. Don't bother with jrpgs though, since those things are mostly straight chuuni, lol.

  9. Question 20: How many hours have you approximately played visual novels? 151 is the max? That's like 3 long VNs. Casuals can get that easily. Pretty sure a lot of people here easily clocked over 1,000 in a year and many people have been a VN player for 3-5 years or so. Heck, personally, I probably clocked about 2.5k hours in VNs last year.

I'm not the biggest fan of pure nakiges since their dramas offer suffer from being to artificial and constructed. This is especially problematic if the writer tries to create a 'unique' drama for each of the heroines instead of relying on an overarching main plot. In the worst case it can look like that: Route 1: "Your little puppy died?! Oh I'm so sorry for you." Route 2: "Your little hamster died? That's... tragic indeed." Route 3: "Your budgie died? Reeeeallly? I'm sooooo sorry." Route 4: "Your goldfish died? You don't say! *yawn*" Route 5: "Your cat died? Ah, I guess that hit my car." Actually, I think the best 'nakiges' I've read aren't even tagged as nakiges. They are mostly good story VN's with drama parts like Sharin no Kuni, G-Senjou, F/SN, Edelweiss, Kira Kira, etc. The best pure nakige I've seen is probably still the Kanon anime. There aren't that many pure nakige VN's I consider good. I guess it's mostly Hoshimem, Clannad, Suika and Da Capo 2. I like drama if it comes in combination with a good, believable story. But drama just for drama's sake isn't really my thing. Though light drama works rather well with moeges.

  12. The battle system in Seinarukana is simpler and therefore doesn't drag like Yumina's. You can't change skills during battle so battles are much quicker and don't require so much micromanagement. The system is essentially a refined version of Aselia's with a greater variety of skills, giving each unit type more versatility. Also unlike Aselia, the majority of the units in your squad are hero types from the story rather than faceless soldiers.

I love to get rekt by feelings and emotions too. I usualy am so depressed in the time when i finish such ending. And i am just terribly sad for some following days/weeks. When it s gone it becomes even worse. Because i often find out that i miss that sad feeling and the time when i was under the influence. And so it goes... Not only dramas are like that, an incredibly good and very happy endings tend to have even bigger effect.

  15. That was my main problem with Majikoi and why (among other, RL reasons) I stalled it. I had no iea which girl I want to 'clear' first. There was not enough about many of them, that, although liking whole cast, I couldn't decite, everybody was 'fine', but nothing else. So longer common routes are nice. And of course, they're ment to read them once, and then skip them.

  16. Basically how I do things too. Common routes are good for one good experience and then you skip them. They're not worth going through multiple times because you'll already have seen the jokes.

  18. If it had been any other VN with that long of a common route without the awesome comedy of Grisaia, I would've hated it from halfway through.

  19. I definitely tend to find early branching plots more fun, it gives me a sense of discovery and adds a lot more replayability to the story whereas long common routes end up being skipped after the first couple times as the choices usually don't change much so there's no reason for me to read it again. With early branching plots you can build your main plot in a way that requires you to actually go down all the routes in order to unveil what's going on. Works especially well if you have a true route. Most games tend to have a single long common route because they're charage and the point of the game is the heroines and their routes and the common route is just there for context most of the time. Imo though, if you're going to focus on characters, then you might as well just branch the plot earlier so you can give them an even better story that doesn't lean on the common route.

  36. This. You can even break it down from the word itself. Chara- as in character. Duh! -rage as in from that emotion you feel because the heroine and the protag are not being logical and continue to drag the problem and drama instead of finding ways to solve it. Thus, do not read character if you hate "rage"ing on characters.

  38. Yeah, I might still give it a try. I didn't really rule it out completely anyway, but after the first play-through I simply needed a break from it and read something different. You're not the only one liking it. While I'm not the only one who dislikes the village parts, there's also a fairly large group who seems to like that part in particular. So there's certainly something special about it that seems to cause those split opinions. I do have a hunch though. The section has a very slow pacing and I seem to struggle with those. In general I seem to enjoy VN's with a fast pacing more than others and VN's with a slow pacing less than others. The problem is most likely that I have a rather slow reading speed, probably caused by the fact that English isn't my mother language although it's probably more than just that. Actually, Clephas wrote a blog a few weeks ago where he directly linked reading speed to enjoyment of a visual novel. It was quite enlightening even if it wasn't particularly long. It actually made me remember that it took me about 2 - 3 days to finish Eden while another guy apparently finished it in just a few hours. I also have to reduce the auto reading speed in VN's almost always since it's way too fast for me with the default setting. So I'm pretty sure that it has something do with that. Unfortunately, I can't exactly snip with my fingers and double my reading speed. So I'm probably doomed to be not be able to appreciate highly descriptive text like a faster reader. It's a bit frustrating, but since I seem to enjoy most stuff like normal, I can probably live with the few problematic VN's which are written for more advanced readers.

  43. In the context of all games on pc where we click anything. A good question. Telltale games to my knowledge makes exclusive episodic point-and-click side stories to existing IPs. The games are mostly seeing a story play out in full audio and some freedom to roam around and use a combination of quick time events with number of options (to add pressure to your choice). They are the opposite of a novel. They are far more game oriented. VNs have a more measure side. Taking your time to read and enjoy whatever it is. One key point is that I have never seen a telltale game for a brand new exclusive unique story. Thats not to say they can't, but that's uncharted water they are not willing to try because logic. However, people who've played games like Ace Attorney are more likely to try out VNs just by the general knowledge of what makes a VN with the execution of Ace Attorney's VN qualities, and even just by the restrictions ACe Attorney had by the aspects that werent exactly VN. Allow me to explain: Ace Attorney is 80% text based and you read everything. THe only thing you dont always read is the evidence. But because Ace Attorney is more of a graphic adventure, it doesnt have an over branching story. INstead it offers one legitimate way to proceed. Ace Attorney however demanded critical thinking and but no shortcuts or harder ways to succeed or the legitimate option of failing. As a VN or at least closer to one, Ace Attorney would offer crazy ammount of replayability. ANd im positive players saw VNs a little lighter by what Ace Attorney offered. Plus witty and surprising characters. back to telltale games. I see VNs able to succeed in what telltales does. Although extremely popular, telltale games does get some flak. But it succeeds because it executes well on finding its market. Thry target popular IPs and tease their players with mystery behind the games. I can see VNs working in the sense that just like theres a telltale game for every popular IP, there can be a VN for every different type of person, so long as that the person can tolerate some of the core aspects. IT works for telltale games.

  47. This is not exactly promising... Given the feedback here, I'm torn on picking up Noble Works. On the one hand, it's a good sign that Suzu is saying positive things and seems to be enjoying it. On the other hand, Austin Darts is comparing it unfavorably with Princess Evangile, which I thought was frankly a second-rate VN. At this rate, Noble Works is going in the moege queue behind 1) KoiChoco and 2) HoshiMemo, which likely means effectively "not getting played", unless I find myself with a whole lot of free time all of a sudden. For what it's worth, I'm personally liking it more then Koichoco. but obviously milage will vary from person to person.
