Yup, we've past the goal. Now just need a few dozen (37 to be exact) people to hop on the Thunderclap and maybe we can hit some of the stretch goals. I can't thank the Fuwa community enough. You've all been super helpful and awesome! http://thndr.me/T7lwJD5 points -

Hi guys! New member here! I'm a big fan of Visual Novels. I have been playing them for around 5 years now. I enjoy almost all kinds of genres in them. I just don't like yaoi, trap and futanari. The rest are probably ok for me. My favorite kind of visual novels are netorare focused. I also really like when the netorare is avoidable in some routes, because I think that when I read the "nice/good/lovey-dovey" route first and then the netorare one, the feelings are stronger. But I'm also a fan of pure vanilla stuff.2 points -
Getchu Bishoujo Game Awards 2015 are out

Just for comparison, this is Getchu's sales ranking 2015. I've also added a list of the top twenty below. Only the entries which didn't appear already in the Getchu awards got an image and VNDB link for easier differentiation (and less work). Some interesting observations: I'm not sure what's more shocking, that Angel Beats didn't make it into the Getchu awards or that nobody even seemed to miss it. I think this is the first time that this happened to a major Key title, but it at least did sell well. Poor Key - beaten by Custom Maid 3D2. Eushully might not haven been happy about the ratings for Kami no Rhapsody but they certainly won't complain about the sales on third place. The same applies to Chrono Clock from Purple Software as well on fifth place. It also shows that a good writer isn't a guaranty for a good story. Both Looseboy's 'Boku no Hitori Sensou' and Ou Jacksons/Takahiro's Anekouji 'Naoko to Gin'iro no Shinigami' didn't get good ratings even if their titles sold well. That's why I love good artists - they always deliver. Edit: List fixed and several titles made it in from the Getchu winners like Sakura no Uta or... Custom Maid 3DR2. Other new titles are from Favorite, Feng and Ensemble. 1.) Sanoba Witch (Yuzusoft) 2.) Custom Maid 3D2 (KISS) 3.) Kami no Rhapsody (Eushully) 4.) Primal Hearts 2 (Marmalade) 5.) Chrono Clock (Purple Software) 6.) Angel Beats! (Key) 7.) Haru Kiss (Giga) 8.) Akai Hitomi ni Utsuru Sekai (Favorite) 9.) Sakura no Uta (Makura) 10.) Hatsuru Koto Naki Mirai Yori (Front Wing) 11.) Hanasaki Work Spring! (Saga Planets) 12.) Imouto no Seiiki (Feng) 13.) Tokeijikake no Ley Line -Asagiri ni Chiru Hana- (Unison Shift: Blossom) 14.) Soreyori no Prologue (Minori) 15.) Koi Suru Kimochi no Kasanekata (Ensemble) 16.) Pretty x Cation 2 (Hibiki Works) 17.) Anekouji Naoko to Gin'iro no Shinigami (Minator Carnival) 18.) Boku no Hitori Sensou (Akabei Soft2) 19.) Koko kara Natsu no Innocence! (Clochette) 20.) Amakano ~Second Season~ (Azarashi Soft)2 points -

Well my last thread turned out to be a fruitless endeavour, but it was probably a really tough request to begin with so I'm not too surprised. This time though I hope some people will be able to help with my random urges. As the title says, I'm looking for a VN where at least one of the heroines is in a wheelchair. I'm not looking for any specific reason as to why they're in a wheelchair, they can even have lost their legs, I just want them to be in one. If they're not in a wheelchair for the majority of the story then it probably doesn't qualify (i.e if it's just a temporary injury) I don't want any gameplay heavy VNs (preferably no gameplay at all) Not really looking for a nukige either this time but an actual decent visual novel in terms of plot. Untranslated or not is fine. Currently on my plan to read list: Aaeru: The Visual Novel Imouto no Katachi Already read: Konosora Yes, I realize VNDB has a wheelchair tag, but because it's hard to know wheter a game is good or not from vndb, and also because sometimes the character tags aren't up to date (which is the case of Imouto no Katachi) I figured asking people would be more helpful. And if any of you played the above mentioned VNs, opinions on them are appreciated too. Thank you for any suggestions you may have.1 point

I can understand why people demand 18+ content in romance VNs and shit, and I understand why people are not happy with large amounts of content being removed from Aselia like the evil route, but to just straight up be like "I won't play an RPG unless it has porn in it" is kind of baffling to me. I mean, I guess at the end of the day, you do you, but man, I don't get it.1 point

Combined impression post on Fureraba and Pure x Connect. I played Fureraba a good while ago. The game is essentially plotless, but it has very good comedy, relationship progression and a proper ラブラブ mood with very gentle H-scenes. It also features a conversation system through which you earn points with your chosen heroine, but honestly I used a walkthrough for half of it. Well guess what, Pure x Connect, SMEE's next title, doesn't have half of that. Relationship progression? How about we just move it from zero interest to full bloom with sex right around the corner? Gentle H-scenes? Bah who cares about that, let's just do it like every other moege where the protag has his way with the heroine without a care in the world while going on about how much he treasures her. Compared to Fureraba's protagonist, he moved a long way into the "tough guy" corner, and with all his onahole talk he might as well be tagged as a protagonist with sexual experience. Oh and don't mind that he's a university student, because there's very few scenes there and most of the game is set at his workplace. For the reference, I only played two routes in Pure x Connect as I don't have the patience to bear with it any longer. /rant over TL;DR play Fureraba.1 point -

Getchu awards seem to be more of a popularity than quality contest; surprised to see 花咲ワークスプリング! and 果つることなき未来ヨリ on the list even though they were getting pretty bad reviews, while the lack of Fairytale Requiem is a mortal sin against mankind as it was probably the second best game last year (after Sakura no Uta). Other entries seem to be fairly legit, although サノバウィッチ, ソーサリージョーカーズ, 見上げてごらん、夜空の星を seem oddly high compared to ランス03 リーザス陥落, シルヴァリオ ヴェンデッタ, and Maggot baits if you look at erogamescape. The only other games that I can think of as missing from those awards are ゾンビのあふれた世界で俺だけが襲われない, but they probably don't allow doujin games into the context to begin with, and Bansenjin (maybe they don't allow fan discs either?).1 point

1) Commas are used as a sort of pause in between words in a sentence and can be used when listing three or more things. If you only have two things in the list, you would use and instead of commas. If you have more than two things, it would sound strange if you kept putting the word and in between every one of them. Example 1: Three of my favorite visual novels are Grisaia no Kajitsu, Princess Evangile and Muv-Luv. Example 2: The translation was incorrect, so he went over it again to fix it. 2) Commas are used to separate adjectives in some situations and when the adjectives are interchangeable. One way to determine whether or not to use a comma in this situation is to put the word and in between them and if it still makes sense and sounds right, replace it with a comma because it also reduces the amount of words used since you can replace and with a comma in a lot of situations. Example 1: She is a smart, beautiful woman. Example 2: She is a beautiful, smart woman. Example 3: She is a smart and beautiful woman. (The word and could be used as a substitute here and still technically be correct but you can shorten the sentence by replacing it with a comma.) Those are the two main uses of commas but there are plenty of other situations where you can use them. Most of the time, you can tell just by reading the sentence out loud whether or not using a comma is appropriate. Sometimes commas are used even when they don't have to be and either way would be correct. If you are having trouble with commas, just think that they represent a pause in the sentence and serve to make it sound more appropriate. I've never taught anything before in my life so this is the best explanation I could give you, I hope it helps. One other way to get a grasp on commas are to pickup an English novel or read something online that has correct grammar and you can use them all as examples. EDIT: I can't believe I forgot to add this but one other important use of a comma is when starting and ending a letter. Note that normally the first sentence in the paragraph is indented but when I press tab it takes me out of the editing window, so lets just pretend it is indented. Example: Dear Fuwanovel, I love your website! Sincerely, Saggz1 point -
I voted on these 3: Walkure Romanze (I was torn between it and Pricess Lover!) Sore de mo Tsuma o Aishiteru (bring the NTR!) Boku no Kanojo wa Gatenkei ... My grandparents had a habit of learning new languages when they entered retirement and by the time I know it, they know 6-7 languages already... For some reason, learning new languages seems easier when you are old and retired because you don't have to stress out about work and stuff and only have 1-2 things in mind. Now I can't really imagine myself still playing VNs when I'm 70-80 years old, so I doubt learning Japanese by that time instead of now would be of any benefit to me.... So yeah, if you are not in the working world yet, learn Japanese now or forever regret it!!!1 point -

There's an Akane route... in the Plus Communication version. There are a crapton of routes in that version, actually, too bad there's no english version. MangaGamer's refusal to translate the bonus DC2 content has always disappointed me. The Koko's route is pure shit. Everyone involved acts like an idiot and the number of times they postpone their eventual confession of love is nearly record-breaking. So incredibly frustrating. Would be hard. It's not something that I have yet "digested" well enough that I can feel confident expressing in words why I feel about it the way I do. I could cite a number of "generic" qualities: it's often hilarious, has an emotionally compelling overarching plot, cool characters, some very impactful scenes, sca-ji's characteristic erudition that he delivers in a simple and pleasant way. All the same it'd be easy to point out flaws: some annoying cliche sexist scenes, some scenes dragging on, Rin's and Makoto's route not being that great, etc... But in the end I think what really makes this game special is the way it talks about Art. It's all about exposing various visions of art, often incarnated by various characters and the way they develop(ed). It's about the relationship between art and reality, perception, sublime, banal, original, mimesis and anti-mimesis. And it's also about finding happiness, in a way. If I felt like I grasped all of that in a more clear way I'd have written a review or a blog post about it but that'll probably only come in a long time.1 point

Ask sanahtlig: Answers to Common Issues and Concerns in the VN community
VirginSmasher reacted to sanahtlig for a blog entry
I see many frequently encountered issues in the visual novel community. I've taken some time to address them, with a focus on pragmatic solutions rather than long-winded explanations. Issue: I really like <insert type of VN>, but I can't find others like it, or I've already played through all the suggested titles. Answer: There's over 17k VNs in VNDB's database. 2356 are available in English. The sorts of VNs you're looking for are almost certainly there. Time to learn Japanese. Issue: JAST USA is really slow, and it licenses nearly finished fan translations and sits on them for years before releasing them. Answer: Time to learn Japanese. You'll probably finish before JAST does. Issue: Companies keep licensing eroge and releasing them censored on Steam. Answer: They're doing this because few people buy eroge, whereas Steam users are more than happy to overpay for softcore porn. Time to learn Japanese. Issue: JAST/Nukaku is censoring my lolis / guro / scat / all the content I'm interested in. It's really ticking me off.Answer: Distribution of offensive pornographic content is restricted in much of the English-speaking world. Time to learn Japanese. Also, best not to import the stuff, or you could end up like this guy. Issue: Original English VNs are terrible. Help! Answer: Yes, the English VN market has thus far failed to attract professional game developers, especially when it comes to sexual content. Time to learn Japanese. Issue: The game I'm interested in has a fan translation or a fan translation in progress, but the translation is terrible or the project is stalled. Answer: Fan translators cannot be relied upon to provide high-quality translations quickly and reliably. They have real jobs / studies that take precedence. Time to learn Japanese. Issue: Localization companies pick mediocre or short titles I have no interest in. Why can't they release something I want like <insert title from Type-Moon, Eushully, or other famous developer here>? Answer: Japanese companies don't care what you want, and neither do localization companies. They want profits, and releasing titles people want is often unfeasible or unprofitable. Time to learn Japanese. Issue: I tried text hooking with machine translation so I could play Japanese VNs, but I can't understand it or it's too frustrating to use. Answer: Understanding machine translation requires practice and exposure. It's a bit like learning a new language. If you'd rather not learn machine translation, you could learn Japanese instead. Issue: Learning Japanese is hard. Like, really hard. Answer: Yes, it's one of the most difficult languages for a native English speaker to learn. The US government estimates that 2200 hours of intensive study is required to gain basic proficiency in Japanese. To add insult to injury, Japanese has a special asterisk next to it reading, "Languages preceded by asterisks are usually more difficult for native English speakers to learn than other languages in the same category". That means they lied; it actually takes significantly more than 2200 hours to learn the language. Good luck. So there you go: practical solutions to frequently encountered issues. I hope everyone finds this guide helpful.1 point
