書くのは苦手です;; -------------------------------------------------------- I study English at school, and not good at english;; I try to introduce myself in English. かくちゅ:Kakutyu I am from japan; I'm 19. I have nothing against OELVNs Of course there are some bad ones like Sunrider, Sakura and AJTilley, and I felt like all OELVNs were rubbish, until Sepia Tears regained my faith in this market The soon coming Black Sands and a few other OELVNs show promise, and I do hope that it gets better I won't dismiss an OELVN before trying it ever again.4 points -
Hello everyone, I am posting on behalf of DEVGRU-P. We're an American Visual Novel Development Team, and have a big release coming up next week. As a team, we very interested in putting our money back into the community, and want to help other developers get their projects off the ground and on Steam. As such, we are looking for Visual Novels that are currently early to midway in the development cycle, who are aiming for a commercial release in the future. Because we have worked with Valve on getting our game onto Steam, we have a pretty good handle on how to actually use Valve's software (SteamPipe) to handle game builds and keys and whatnot. Specifically, what we want to do is, Kickstarter -Pre Campaign advice, helping you pick a good funding amojnt, designing reward tiers. -Building the campaign, writing the pitch, laying it out to make an attractive and professional looking campaign. -Contacting gaming websites to drive traffic to your campaign. Steam -Building your Steam Greenlight page. -Submitting the game to Steam Greenlight (this costs $100 the first time an account submits to Greenlight, our account already has gone through the process, which our account has). -Managing customer questions on Steam, monitoring the page. -After the game has been approved by Valve, we'll build the Steam Store page, and handle actually getting the files on Valve's server. In addition, depending on the funding goals and our level of interest in the project, we would also be interested in footing some of the development costs. Our primary interests are in games that really set themselves apart concept wise, and bring something new to the genre. Specifically some general things we have an interest in, Comedy Military/War [BxG, GxG] (So no Yaoi) Non-Romance Games Please feel free to contact us with any questions, or to discuss working together on your project. If you want to make it easier, please let us know this about your project, How far along in the development process are you/When do you expect to finish? How much money do you need (at the very bare minimum) to make your game, and what do you plan on spending it on? Do you currently have any funding? Do you have a full team already? Does your team have much prior experience? Also we'd love to see the art you have so far, so that we can get a style idea. Thanks for your time! DEVGRU-P3 points

Solidbatman Hospitalized
Funnerific and one other reacted to OriginalRen for a topic
Resident salt producer and pancake hater solidbatman posted on on his Tweeter account that he has been hospitalized as of Tuesday for excessive objects being shoved deep into his anal cavity. While news reports indicate that a single French man was seen attending his house the other weekend, no speculation has been addressed as to the connection between the mysterious colleague and the incident. Eye witness reports state that the man appeared to be in his mid twenties, and was seen spotting a sporty Muv-Luv t-shirt around the victim's home. Here is a predicted sketch of the individual: The 23-year-old solidbatman (or something close to that) did not provide a reason for the hospitalization or his current condition, but he stated that he will receive treatment so that he can recover his health. Well-known for starting the unban Run campaign, and for causing a massive amount of butt hurt feelings to all Key fans, solidbatman is a true pillar to this community. Truly a gripping moment. We all pray that he be safe in this time of mourning.2 points -

This is an interesting topic to touch on. As an OELVN developer myself, you might consider my opinion biased, but personally, I always try to support other developers if I see them making an effort at delivering a quality product. With subjectivity aside, I think the biggest reason OELVNs aren't as well received as Japanese VNs is because they haven't been around as long. Most people are already accustomed to a certain style, and straying from that is understandably off-putting. Either the developers try too hard at mimicking Japanese VNs, or they're too different. As a result, it's hard for most readers to swallow them without grimacing. There's simply no way to satisfy everyone, but it's always disheartening to see people discredit OELVNs despite the hard work and effort that's been put into them by the developers. (Some, at least) What I consider a "quality" product is one that presents itself professionally. What I consider a "quality" piece of work is when it's able to convey a message across effectively. It's like any book you come across: most of them aren't from well known authors like Stephen King or J.R.R Tolkien, but there are those few that can be as equally as gripping—you were drawn in by its presentation (its cover/summary), and understood its message (its content). I'm positive OELVNs will gain traction someday and be as popular as Japanese VNs. Some people just have to understand that Stephen King doesn't always make quality stories just because he's Stephen King. And that the unknown author doesn't always make bad stories because he's an unknown author.2 points

This is true, OELVNS haven't caught up quality wise to eroges and i think that's the main reason people tend to look down on it..they're progressing but are not quite there yet. Still I support the OELVN scene exactly because i believe it had potential and can be really good aswell. So more than "Hating" OELVNS i think it's more like people are waiting for them to get better and progress along the japanese ones and for that they'll need to think and take it more seriously and not just as mere hobby or project, they'll need to have great writers and artists, music comoposers and put all the work like japanese publishers do. That will earn them money and revenue and with that base they'll be able to fund their next bigger and better one and so on and so forth but there has to be that first step into it for everything to work out. That's not to say though that there are not great OELVNS out there because there are but most are not and until something changes i don't think we'll be seein those many great OELVNS as often as we'd like to2 points

Made some progress in Lucy The year is 2050, the era of Androids. You spend a good first 30 minutes to an hour of this VN in the company of the protagonist You and his internal monologuing as he finds this broken down Android in the local junkyard about to be recycled. On a whim, he decides to take her- no, it- home. Right off the bat it's established that You's indifferent to Androids. He understands that robots are just robots. They're tools to be used to make human life more convenient. Nothing more, nothing less. Falling in love with an Android would be like falling in love with your smartphone or computer. He'll spend a good amount of time reiterating this belief, but we all know what'll end up happening amirite So here's this broken-down-inactive-but-attractive-looking-silver-haired-female Android sitting around lifeless in his room. Hmmm, low on battery power? Let's try plugging in this power cord through its nose! (The VN will literally give you a choice of whether to do that or not ). After a bit of fumbling around, You manages to properly plug in and power on the Android and begins some Q&A. Name? The Android responds with a very, VERY typical female robot-sounding voice, "Lucy Valentine PIM-001". You spends a bit more time glossing over the Lucy's condition- she's apparently flat chested and in dire need of repairs since she's basically just a "talking tin can" in her current state so he decides he will to bring her to a repair shop the next day. So, the next day, after nearly being strangled to death when he told Lucy to grab onto him so he can piggyback-ride her to the repair shop, they make their departure. On the way, he awes at the fact that Lucy feels so lifelike, so human. Pfft. Already going soft on your anti-robot stance, You?! Blah blah blah, he makes small talk with the repairman and decides to cough up the dough for Lucy's repairs, tells her to behave, and leaves for school. At school we meet You's best friend and robot fanatic, "Dr. Gear", and he tells him about his finding Lucy. Dr. Gear quickly offers him a word of advice, "Humans are humans, and robots are robots. You should never forget this boundary between them". After school You heads back to the repair shop to pick up Lucy. He is greeted by a pleasant sounding, non-robotic female voice behind him, and turns around. The owner of that voice? You bet! It's his imouto! Jk Jk, it's Lucy, all fixed up, full of life and brimming with energy, and I'm totally ready to enjoy the rest of this VN2 points

You are completely correct in that I don't really care about Japanese people across the world who I have only engaged with through their written works, other than about said writing. If I spent time worrying about everyone, no matter if I had an emotional connection to them, I'd be hit with blow after emotional blow literally every day. Not caring about everyone is a healthy part of human nature. I completely agree that emptily wishing people well rings extremely hollow, which is why I didn't. If you have a problem with the social construct causing this well-wishing, though, you should probably find a more appropriate angle of attack than a headline on a third-rate news website.2 points

Game can be found here : https://store.steampowered.com/app/455310/Bloody_Chronicles__New_Cycle_of_Death_Visual_Novel/ Just a thing before we continue, if it isn't too much to ask, we would like to post our project that fuwanovel in order to create more exposure for it; with this being our first project, it is important that we can get people in the community to know who we and what we're making. Bloody Chronicles - New Cycle of Death http://bloodychronicles.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/about-project.png Bloody Chronicles is a visual novel and Igrasil Studio’s first project. The plot focuses on Kazuki, who has lost his parents in an accident. After graduating from the police academy, he was recruited by Igrasil, a non-governmental organization which solves murders the police deem are impossible to explain due to lack of evidence. Kazuki’s partners include the crazy and funny Ishikawa siblings, Kaoru Moriyama (the daughter of a millionaire and founder of the organization), and Suzumi, the head of the organization. http://bloodychronicles.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/character.png http://prefundia.com/uploads/projects/8099/a907fb3ec0cc6d893d9a251e0e156ea3.jpg http://prefundia.com/uploads/projects/8099/f0d134115efa90e47a6dab4cb01f6f12.jpg http://prefundia.com/uploads/projects/8099/053d1e7692d380e7b42a9403eec67ffa.jpg http://prefundia.com/uploads/projects/8099/6906237afb19e8d6a3f4223a14a284f2.jpg http://prefundia.com/uploads/projects/8099/88e9136e991d6991350263bdf4e0f1e9.jpg http://prefundia.com/uploads/projects/8099/5e639846eb1ee719e3efabf17ed1bb57.jpg http://prefundia.com/uploads/projects/8099/aab646dcf126f50e1de9dc5fbe5504ed.jpg The whole series will consist of 3 installments; the first part is “Act 1 - New Cycle of Death.” We’re aiming for the length of the entire series to consist of 40 hoursof gameplay, where the player will be able to make different decisions that will affect the ending. Like in most visual novels, the player will be able to establish close relationships with the series’ characters and get to know their personal stories. Please note that our studio aren't fans of "fanservice", so Bloody Chronicles won't be another dating sims game etc. Our game is broken into several chapters; these chapters are separated into seven days, where “Player Choices” will help or hinder the investigation. Player decisions and choices will affect the ending. http://prefundia.com/uploads/projects/8099/290b65a65925382fdacc3fc306cfc3e6.jpg Suzumi | Akito A & B | Kaoru | Aki oh, we won't tell you how to get the "DARK" ending... it's a secret! φ(゚ロ゚*)ノ Bloody Chronicles can be classified as a mystery, drama, slice of life, and action; the plot takes place in a modern day fictional universe called Utna http://prefundia.com/uploads/projects/8099/b7728499757d82b0b0ff1968d74fc3e9.jpg http://prefundia.com/uploads/projects/8099/6ed32b5031e8e5c8edb4d87bf36a006a.jpg Each of the character designs will include casual clothes, organization uniforms, unique poses, and different facial expressions. Bloody Chronicles [Demo/Indiegogo]
IGRASILSTUDIO reacted to Diamon for a topic
Alright, sure thing then. While I do have experience in VN development, Keep in mind that a lot of what I'm going to say is purely subjective, so feel free to disagree with me. Like I said, the writing needs a bit of work. It was sometimes awkward to read, and failed to catch my attention. Narration didn't flow very smoothly, and there were a lot of "show don't tell" instances I could notice. You're trying to pack too much information at once, I kinda felt like the whole demo was a big info dump. The issue is that I'm not especially awarded as a reader for going through this info dump: there is no action scene afterward, or no scene that makes use of all the knowledge I forcibly received in the prior scenes. There was a lot of use of capitalization, but I don't think it's a great way to put emphasis on the text. Bold or italics is a more subtle way to do it imo, capital letters tend to be aggressive to the eyes so it tends to be considered much more as screaming. The fact that you do have voice acting really makes it unnecessary to insist visually that much on some words on sentences, since it should be portrayed in the voice over anyway. There are very few in game explanations about what Igrasil is, and what each of the members are responsible for. I thought the first meeting could have been a great place to introduce properly and formally the characters, but surprisingly enough it didn't happen. The biggest flaw is how the narration is handled I feel. Using external third person narration limits you a lot regarding what you could narrate. We don't get to hear the thoughts of Kazuki as much as we should, and you could have switched a good part of the info dumping onto a first person narration. It makes it much harder to empathize with Kazuki, or even to understand him. As a reader, I end up following a character instead of a main character. You're using some internal narration from time to time, but why aren't you using it all the time? I haven't seen any benefit with using the third person narration so far on this demo. Characterization isn't done extremely well in my opinion. We have to guess what is each character's personality based on their interactions solely. And because of the narration issue I stated previously, you have to cram a lot of those interactions into your demo, to the point that it becomes not very natural and makes the reading not flow very well. A good chunk of the dialog lines could have been removed or changed to more meaningful discussions if Kazuki's internal narration was presenting the characters as they were appearing and commenting on them, making the dialog flow much more naturally. What's more, Kazuki's interpretation of their personalities could give more depths to them as well. The restaurant scene felt really out of place especially for some reason, like the game was forcefully telling me "Hey, get to know more about the characters through even more interactions in case what you saw previously was not enough! And of course you won't get to know much more about their personalities!" The main character comes off as very bland and generic. This is even more exacerbated by the lack of internal first person narration. Regarding the voice acting, it was decent / good. Akito's VA is probably the best out of them. Kaoru / Suzumi's VA felt like she was more reading a script sometimes. Aki's VA is trying way too much to be on the cutesy side, and it's really grating tbh. Comparatively, I felt that her natural tone I could hear during the extras was much more pleasant to listen to while still remaining cute. For some reason, it seems like the voice acting is not as fluid as it should be, maybe because it is trying to insist on having perfect pronunciation? I don't know, it just felt that some of the lines were said much more slowly than what they should have been. The music was very nice, it fitted well the ambiance overall. You might want to have smoother transitions between the tracks, cutting abruptly the audio in order to play a new track breaks immersion a lot. The art is beautiful, I like the characters design a lot. Hopefully in the future the characters will have some pose variations, as it makes it much easier to associate the characters with a name and a voice. The GUI is pretty neat, but it doesn't look like I can change the settings in the option menu. Probably that you didn't have the time to set it up yet. Background art is nice and fits correctly with the sprites style, that's always a good point. The cameo of your project leader at the end was a good idea, was actually surprised that it happened^^ There were more efforts on the direction than what I would have expected for a demo, so good job on that! Basically, your demo was trying to introduce us the characters and the world, but it lacks a hook. There wasn't any action scene that could justify me taking an interest in the plot and the setting, and the characterization was too awkward for me to care about the characters. However, if you only intended your demo to be something where you can display and show your assets, you definitely succeeded. Hopefully it doesn't sound too harsh, it's just my honest opinion. I'm not expecting you to fix all of those things, but hopefully you will take some of them into consideration!1 point -

What needs to stop is the school setting trope and all these garbage ass cliches that only works right in a Japanese VN but will never work in a western setting. Example: No youre not supposed to go to love hotels or karaoke bars in a western setting VN. We dont do that shit over here.... Night clubs or going to a bar for drinks would be more "western appropriate" or actually going to your significant other's place instead of hotels or motels is more common here. See? That shit isnt so hard to westernize... These OELVN developers just need to see the differences between our cultures and the Japanese if they want to "make it their own" and not look like copycat garbage VN.1 point -

Yeah, he's only been repeating Kanon's idea for what, a decade and a half? True that Rewrite (and some other works, such as Planetarian) deviates from that model. But hoping for him to write a "realistic" plot is just insane. He's proven he's very comfortable with heavy fantasy elements in the plot. It's just not his style to write a Metal Gear Solid, but who knows, with all that special agent crap from Rewrite...1 point

I think the problem with OELVNs is that they are too amateurish, I know that many people blame the "they just copy the japanese vns and setting" and yeah most of the time they do but how is it that one of most popular vns in the west if not the most popular is katawa shoujo a vn with a japanese tittle, the settings is in japan, with japanese characters, everything is "japanese" the thing is it has good writing and good music and this is where OELVNs fail to deliver (specially in the writing) I've seen a lot of people trying to do vns and they don't even have the story ready but they are asking for money to do it... (I've seen kickstarter projects doing this!) Again the problem is that in Japan vns are a business, good writers work for the industry of vns, is not just a simple hobby, there is money around it too here it is not...what would happen if a good writer wrote the plot for a vn and then you hire profesional artist to do the artwork and finally hire real musicians to make the music? Well that probably will never happen here but in japan it happens very often. Again, it can happen that amateurs do a good vn but it's the exception to the rule.1 point -

Hello Avernesh and welcome. I am the Virgin Smasher and lover of Kyonyuus. For VNs, I'd recommend G Senjou No Maou and the Kara No Shoujo series (start with Cartagra if you play it). If mystery isn't your kind of thing, I'd recommend playing Majikoi and Symphonic Rain's last 3 routes. I hope to see you around.1 point -

Templarseeker reacted to Nosebleed for a topic
The draw has now been made and the winner is... @Templarseeker! Congratulations! I'll be messaging you your key shortly after posting this. There were at least 4 people on Stream who saw me do the draw so you can ask them about how I rigged the whole thing did it legitimately. Until next time!1 point -
Jun Maeda Hospitalized

well, he is a great vn writer. i know thats subjective but he has written numerous well received works. would it be better if her wrote "Japanese, dark haired man hospitalized"? famous people are defined by their work, so its no wonder he would use something that defines the guy.1 point -
Jun Maeda Hospitalized

Maybe I'm just a jackass, but wishing somebody is well while using the tag "the great VN writer" makes me feel that you care nothing about him being an actual human being and care more about the fact that a guy who wrote some stories for Key doesn't die. Also, that tag seems rude. Rather than stating what he did in the actual post (write Clannad/Charlotte), the news report felt it important to state that in the title. To me, it's basically drawing attention from people for no reason when if they actually did know the guy and care about his well being, wouldn't need a title to tell us what he did. It just feels like the article is trying to draw useless "get well soon" responses from random fans. It just comes off wrong with the wording. Regardless, I hope things work out and he gets well soon.1 point -
R18+ Visual Novels on Steam? [ DISCUSSION ]
DarkZedge reacted to mitchhamilton for a topic
insightful as always, goshujin-sama. i doubt its ever gonna happen, unless its light like kindred spirits. i think seeing actual penetration is where the line is drawn, even if mosaic censorship is used. of course it would help vn's in the west but it might receive mostly a negative backlash from people who arent really fans of visual novels and go on steam to play video games, with comments like "Why corrupt steam" or some other whiny bs.1 point -
R18+ Visual Novels on Steam? [ DISCUSSION ]
DarkZedge reacted to Arcadeotic for a topic
Well, yes, if Steam sold +18 VNs, it would greatly increase the sales and publicity, but looking at how Steam is at this stage, it looks highly unlikely Who knows? Maybe in the future years. But another thing to consider is that these yearly huge Steam sales have largely destroyed the asking prices of games, including VNs. A few years back 40, even 60 dollars was a completely normal price to ask for a game. Today? Even 20 dollars is asking too much, well at least in the eyes of some people. What does this entail? The selling of VNs plummet, heavily. If the normal asking price of a VN maybe double or even triple of the normal price of a game today, this means that VNs wouldn't do that well on Steam. Of course there are cases where this isn't the case. Take Clannad and Winged Cloud for instance. These two have a certain trump card which many other VNs don't have. This being fame and low asking prices. But it isn't all bad, as if +18 material comes to Steam, this might give a very direly needed edge to VNs. Hopefully something happens to this, I'll still keep hoping. For the developers' sake, and for the sake of my dearest hobby.1 point -
History of Fuwanovel from 2013, also My 1000th Post
Zalor reacted to Chronopolis for a topic
Grats on 1000 posts and 3 years. Now come to think of it, why is it that my "kouhai" been around fuwa longer than me ? Me too, I really appreciated the sentiment at the time I joined the site in early 2014. At the time, fuwa was the only welcoming place to talk about VN's. #tlwiki, vndb, and 4chan were out, for obvious reasons, while /visualnovels/ was mostly filled with funny images and posts from people finishing Grisia/MLA/Rewrite. Tay was pretty active back then too. Arr, Tay you're the man! I'm curious how fuwa will go in the year 2016: what new people will come, what the existing members will do. I have the inkling that people like you Zalor producing great content keeps drawing people back towards the community. Call me up anytime on VN community and piracy and we can go toe to toe.1 point -
This is definitely the kind of stuff I crave and haven't seen the like of since... Forever. I beg you share more grand tales of the history of Fuwa, notably the clash between the pirates and the new overlord Tay. Those where the most re-defining moments of this site that I recall, and the newbies need to know how it happened.1 point
