  1. Learning Japanese is something that might seem like a daunting task that will take forever, which probably scares off a lot of people. However, it can actually be quite a fun experience depending on how you decide to tackle it, as it's possible learn it through reading visual novels and other media. It's also quite likely that you will be able to get good enough at Japanese to finish a VN you've been hyped to play before it finishes, or even starts getting a translation, and once done, you'll still have plenty of other VNs to read, that you might never be able to otherwise. For those interested in trying, I hope the guide here will help you with starting out and having a nice time. (note: while it might tempting to do so after you've gotten some proficiency with reading, I'd advise against learning through translating, as it will be much slower than simply just reading more instead, as you'll now have to concentrate on both your japanese and english and the result will probably not be very good yet (translation is difficult).)

  2. That's a kinda sad/cynical individualistic vision of life. Social factors don't reduce to attention seeking, you can be motivated by a desire for social bonding which is centered more on the relation than on yourself, or by a desire to spread knowledge, etc. Altruism (which is only social in a broad definition since it's biologically engineered in numerous species like ours) and boredom seem like other plausible options.

  7. @Vorathiel In case you wondering, the VN name was I/O. If you ask me if it's good or bad, I would said good, because GundamAce back at 2013 said that it was 1 of 5 his favorite VN (The other one were Steins Gate, Fate/Stay Night, Root Double, and Ever17). Oh GundamAce was I/O and Root Double translator. Although to find out if I/O is good for you, my suggestion is that find out by yourself.

It´s still a good game and a lot of us have read it with the current translation. It salvages the game enough to the point where it´s enjoyable. Don´t mislead people into thinking it´s literally not playable, because that is wrong. People should be allowed to choose that for themselves. Anyways, welcome to the forum, nice to meet you! My recommendations would be: Katahane Maji de watashi ni koishinasai!

  14. I always find it intriguing that people post guides on how to learn a language. I understand that it is very useful, but as a teacher who has viewed hundreds of lectures on teaching pedagogy and methods, I always find user guides to be very focused on one style of learning. In this specific example, I'm referring to Japanese. While I understand that self-study is a great tool for some learners, a lot of the guides I have read don't seem to take into account the other styles (visual, aural, kinesthetic). These are great guides for adult learners who care about self-study, but I want to see more variety. Not only that, but all of the guides I read are for how to actually read the language. When it comes to actual language learning, the 4 core skills are extremely important and can really help in assisting in other parts when learning a new language. I also find it interesting that Japanese learners really try to learn how to speak English, while Japanese learners who enjoy otaku related material only care to read it. It's a completely different style. TLDR: Language is awesome, and being a teacher for the past 4 years has really made me appreciate the different styles of learning, not only based on background and culture, but also personality. I hope more people post guides on how to learn Japanese without, for example, Tae Kim and intense grammar study and memorization. I don't believe visual novels, manga, and anime should be the only tools people use to learn a language.

Dispensing with the usual political bickering and the oversimplification of very complex issues, this lengthy editorial provides a thoughtful insight into the complicated problem of deciding when and where the US should intervene in foreign affairs. It provides a startling contrast to the depressingly low level of political discussion we're currently seeing on the campaign trail. The Atlantic: The Obama Doctrine

  19. I have no fundamental problem discussing with others whose premises differ from my own. The only time when opposing viewpoints are threatening is when the outcome of the argument will impact site policy--and I used to regularly rail against site policy in Aaeru's heyday without being moderated or having the discussions degenerate into name-calling. If Fuwanovel was capable of such discussions then, then it should be capable of this discussion now.

I tell myself I'll just marathon the shit out of it, fail to, read half of it by 20 minutes chunk while procrastinating on the internet, then I finally get in a groove and finish it pretty quickly. I'm seriously considering cutting my internet connection in order to be able to focus but I'd probably still find something else to do instead. That's how I end up with multiple VNs/books/anime at the same time...

  21. Ever want to open your very own establishment of the universe's finest food while recruiting the galaxy's greatest servers? Enter Dream Cafe Tycoon! Features: Become a manager of a dream establishment constructed in any image of your choosing! Whether its a small maid cafe, a dine-in drive through, or a grand eatery of exotic dishes, the choice is yours! Create a unique name, logo, and food item for your establishment which will help solidify your name in history. Spend your Woolong (money) on initial furnishings, decorations, and other upgrades. Depending on how you shop, more patrons may be attracted to your eatery and ultimately leave happy at the end of the day! Recruit your very own freelance maids/servers. Some of the galaxy's finest are looking for jobs, and depending on your work force, you may end up being the hottest place around. Play out and serve actual customers who visit your establishment. Depending on how you choose to react to certain situations and patrons, your rating may increase and move you one step closer to victory. How it Works: The game will be divided into teams or solo individuals who will compete to create the best service establishment this side of the nebula. Each group will start with a certain amount of Woolong, which will be used to design a name, logo, and initial design for your restaurant. After you have set up shop, you will spend the rest of your money on recruiting servers from around the universe to help service your shop. Each server is unique, and depending on their stats and personality, they may be able to assist you in winning over customers who visit your shop. Each server has a cost and requires a salary, which means that you as a manager will need to manage who you let work for your shop. Essentially, each server you hire has the potential to earn you more customers (points), but also costs you more in the long run depending on how you choose to budget your money. Not only that, but servers themselves are unique in their own special way. Depending on their specific "class," you may attract specific groups of customers that are willing to pay top dollar for great service (i.e. = loli servers may attract lolicon patrons). In addition to your group of servers you choose to hire, special scenarios will present themselves throughout the game. These scenarios include multiple choice answers that you as managers must decide on what is best for the customer. Depending on your response, you may earn more money to be used in upgrading your establishment or for hiring more recruits. More money means more points, and more points means a step closer to victory. Just like an actual visual novel, the choices you make will swing your rating drastically and can be both beneficial, and potentially dangerously serious. A patron saunters into your establishment and sighs a heavy breath of discomfort. He's wearing a business suit and puffing a very large cigar, which doesn't seem to be any sort of alien you recognize. Wrapped around each of his arms are two highly attractive humanoid females of blue color, both of which he seems highly uninterested in. He slowly approaches the counter and removes the cigar from his mouth. After loudly demanding someone assist him, a large group of your current patrons currently turn to see what the commotion is all about. Many of your current guests seem uncomfortable that he has entered the eatery. What do you do? A. Assist him and his female companions with the best possible service you can provide. If you have a VIP lounge, you decide it would be best to bring him there since he seems to be a very high profile customer. He may have large amounts of money, and giving the correct impression may leave a good mark on your business. Good service for a rich man means lots of good tips! B. Lead him into sections with a lot of attractive servers in your crew. Seeing that he is uninterested in his female companions, you find it may be best to lead him into an area with a lot of female attention so he can get away from the girls he is currently with. The look in his eye and his taste for tobacco may suggest he likes his women sexy, so you tend to lead him away from the cuter servers at your eatery. C. Kindly ask him to leave the establishment due to his disruption and potential harm to the other guests who are currently repulsed by his smoking habit and rude demeanor. While he may be upset, you are willing to risk his large amounts of money for the betterment of your common patrons who may not pay as much money or tip as well. D. Lead him to your cute servers. Underneath that tough skin of his is a man waiting to be swooned by adorable girls that may make his heart skip a beat. If you can make him fall in love with your servers, you can easily clean him of his money and essentially pitch any sort of sale to him later on in the evening. Your choices have a major impact on what may happen each round, so choose wisely! Interested? Post in this thread so I can get a count for who is interested and if this is something you'd like to see more of!

  22. @Zalor Thanks, but actually I forgot to explain what kind of VN that was posted in TL Wiki, so I'll do it here and give my commentary regarding the change. And for correction, it was inactive since 2014 after Fate Hollow patch release, not after Grisaia release, although after Grisaia no Kajitsu translation finished, I think the activity on TL Wiki slowing down imo. MOON - Translated by Ixrec, founder and leader of Amaterasu which in turn also translated Muv Luv trilogy and Rewrite. As of now, Muv Luv was about being officially translated G-Senjou no Maou - Got picked by Sekai Project and released on Steam, despite some controversy (Cropped CG and cut H content was the controversy) Kara no Shoujo - Picked and released by Mangagamer, which in turn allow Catagra and Kara no Shoujo 2 to be translated too Chaos Head - The translation right was sold to JAST, and JAST now was hold Nitroplus license (Although there is many way to got Chaos Head in English though) Demonbane - Picked by JAST, since this is Nitroplus product Saya no Uta and Hanachirasu - Translated first at TL Wiki, picked up and sold by JAST Osanajimi wa Daitoryu - Picked by JAST using TL Wiki translation Little Busters - Picked up and will localized by Fruitbat Factory Grisaia - After Kajitsu translated in 2013, Sekai picked all of the franchise license, and release Chiru Chiru translation. The translator koestl also translated Gahktun Never7 - GundamAce first project. After finishing this, he established Lemnisca and translated I/O and Killer Queen. As of now, he work at Sekai for translating Root Double, which recently just finished Kickstarter (Around February) Seinarukana - Had changing translator the most, and finally aroduc take over the translation after previous 2 translator disappear (Die or still alive I didn't know). As of now, since JAST who usually slow as snail already announced Seinarukana pre-order, maybe we finally get translated Seinarukana this year (I checked each of JAST release and JAST usually tend to annound pre-order at most 5 months before release. It might be wrong though) As for rumored Subahibi official release, I think it's probably another troll from moogy (Or he didn't want to release the patch maybe) since back when he was head of TL Wiki, he was quite infamous enough at 4chan and VNDB for making some controversial post in order to see the internet reaction (Or so he told Aaeru in one of his interview). Some user even called Moogy attention seeker, while one of his infamy action were he released Drakoi patch right when Ixrec about to translated it because Moogy still not release it (Although guess I should thank moogy though to did that, or otherwise Comyu might delayed for few months or could even be a year lol). But nevertheless I think even if right now it's quite useless, back at 2011-2012 it was very active Wiki, with may translation posted there. Oh, the reason I posted the history of TL Wiki was because from there we could see of how many translation project for VN, and I think if the translated VN was still from G-Collection or Mangagamer still did nukige, I think we'll only had few non nukige discussion in Fuwanovel, while most good VN was still untranslated. And one last note, while there was many translation project outside TL Wiki, I think TL Wiki influence for spreading good translated VN was quite huge imo. Although there's also Mirror Moon though which translated Tsukihime and Fate/Stay Night (Mirror moon leader also disappeared Yandere translation leader), but the influence from Mirror Moon was still small imo. And I think TL Wiki history also important and connected to Fuwanovel history (Otherwise, maybe all of the user here would stuck to discuss Snow Sakura, Crescendo, Yume Miru Kusuri, and Princess Waltz as the choice of good VN I think). I think that's all from what I remember at this time. Might add more though, and sorry if I got some typo and grammatically wrong.

Wow so many replies I don't know what to say, thanks for all this feedback. I've looked into some of these at VNDB to get a lil sneak peek. I can see that Umineko looks like a very long VN so it might be a stretch for me to start with that first, it looks like an interesting story, but i'll save that for another time. Hmm by popularity I think to try Steins;Gate, I already have it on my vita and looks like a good story. The runner ups look like G-Senjou no Maou and Little Busters. I want to wait for the Little Busters Perfect Edition that will come out so i'll look forward to G-Senjou no Maou as my next VN. 28. Yeah, while I was writing and rewriting the OP I had that same link around and some commentary about how it apparently hadn't been updated in a while... here's to hoping the Kazamatsuri posts are closer to the truth than the official Amaterasu page. To be completely honest, I wonder if @PAscension is maybe on the right track, and the ominous silence is actually because of some ongoing official licensing talks with Key, perhaps for a package deal of the previous Rewrite translation and the nearly-done Rewrite Harvest Festa translation. I'd actually be delighted if that's the case - we'd probably see some delay, sure, but official English releases are nourishment for my VN-loving soul, a sign that things are moving in a good direction for us lowly non-Japanese-reading plebes.

  29. Now I know many of you are reading that title and either saying, "Bats, there are already histories of Fuwanovel written by other members! What makes yours any different?" History is history after all. I have wanted to do this many times, and right now is a good time I think. Fuwanovel has a ton of new members, members that are post-Aaeru, post- Vax, post- Ryoji, post- torrents. Fuwanovel today is vastly different than what it was just 2 short years ago. I have been browsing the dankest of visual novel websites, Fuwanovel, for 3.5ish years now. I feel I am an a unique position to tell the story of Fuwanovel as I see it. Many of you know that I used to be a global moderator. Even less of you likely know that I also used to be a site administrator. For that reason, I got to see many of the changes happening to Fuwanovel behind closed doors. I was a part of some of the decision making that led Fuwanovel to where it is now. So, this post will be all about that jazz. This post will not be white washed. It will not be some Fuwa Propaganda. I have made many mistakes in my time on Fuwanovel, and in my eyes, so have other people. Please do not report this post, or censor it because you think I am insulting people. I am keeping this as respectful as possible. Now that the breading of this historical sandwich is in place, how about a little background as to why I joined Fuwanovel. Back when I joined, on November 20th, 2012, I had read but two VNs. Katawa Shoujo and Analogue: A Hate Story. Analogue was what got the ball rolling, and after an RPGFan.com suggestion, I decided to read Ever17. I found a particular site that offered VN downloads, however they were multi-part .rar files. Screw that. I am a lazy solidbatman who wants one download and one only. So, I continued my search, found Fuwanovel, and downloaded Ever17 from the old front page. If you are very new, and don't know what Fuwanovel used to be, let me explain. Fuwanovel, until somewhat recently, offered pre-patched torrents of visual novels. These were portable, download and play VNs with minimal effort required from the user. Aaeru's goal was to make playing VNs as easy as possible, and this was well before Steam VNs were even a blip on the radar really. Sure, one or two existed like Analogue, but it was nothing compared to what we have now. These pre-patched VNs did not always work, but generally, results were fine. Back to me now, I did not actually join Fuwanovel upon downloading Ever17. That did not come until I was enjoying Ever17, and downloaded Never7 to follow up with. Unfortunately, Never7 had a sound issue, and I was unable to solve it on my own. So, I joined the Fuwanovel forums in what I still think is the best introduction post ever written. At the time, I was planning on just messing around a little bit, getting my help for Never7, and moving on. Instead, I found a helpful, extremely friendly, tight knit community eager to spread their love of visual novels to anyone willing to listen. I was still friendly back then too. I quickly took part in anime discussions, gaming discussions, and generally helping people out whenever possible. Fuwanovel was a baby still, only being formed in August 2012, and was just gaining its footing. To this day, I still have not sought help for my Never7 problem on Fuwanovel. I eventually found my way into Steve's teamspeak server, and with his encouragement, I finished Clannad. Early on, I actually was friends with Steve, and enjoyed talking to him. This was before either of us were moderators. We had many a good discussion about various anime and VNs, and I quickly learned that in his teamspeak, no link was a the only kind of safe link. He also learned of my distaste for sexualized lolis, and was constantly posting things to trip me up into looking at one. Much fun was had on his Teamspeak, and eventually Tay popped in to ask us if we wished to become moderators. This may have also been around the time as the IRC room AMApocolypse. Snotsuku, a resident troll, decided to intice everyone into spamming the forums with AMA threads. Oddly enough, this marked my early encounter with Zakamutt, as he and Kendjin both were slapped on the wrists for their actions and Snow faced a temporary ban. I do remember helping Tay and Ryoji sort that mess out (it resulted in a dedicated IRC thread, and the beginnings of the Games and Chatter board) but again, I don't remember if I was a moderator yet. Notable members that become moderators with me were Steve, Down, and Luch. Luch, while quiet, helped many people with technical issues resulting from downloads on Fuwanovel. Down is Down and is still what I consider the gold standard for how a moderator should handle himself on a large forum. Steve and I, well, our relationship began crumbling at this time. We both had very very different ideas on how Fuwanovel should move forward. If memory serves, on of the first messy staff arguments was over a NSFW loli image being posted. Another early argument was over whether or not the forums should have links to pirated localized VNs. The loli debate pitted Steve and Aaeru against Ryoji and I. Ryoji and I were similar in that we were crass, loud, filled with profanity. Steve was... Steve. Condescending, and the type to put his fingers in his ears and go, "Not listening!" His walls of texts failed to address issues raised, which only served to make Ryoji and I even angrier. Aaeru just did not seem to understand at times what was going on, or was too timid to jump into the bloodbath. I was extremely disrespectful in those arguments, and absolutely should have carried myself better. Tay came in, reached something of a compromise that was begrudgingly accepted by both sides. Arguments between Steve, and I continued over everything. Spam posts, loli images, piracy. It was a mess. Again, my anger typically got the best of me, and Tay, or another moderator would swoop in and attempt to resolve the situation. I stopped going to Steve's TS and began hanging out on the IRC chat room. It was there the birth of Kaguya was witnessed. From spammer to global mod. Not before getting banned from the IRC for abusing frodo the bot. Kaguya was a crazy spammer. We even caught him liking his own posts to boost his reputation. Baby Kaguya just did not give a fuck, and that was part of his appeal to some I suppose. I don't recall if Nosebleed ever hung out in the irc room. He can let you know if he did. Regardless, some shapign up happened and suddenly boom, global mod. Now something interesting happened somewhere in that time frame that resulted in me being promoted to an admin. Ryoji left Fuwanovel after basically shaping the forums. I don't think it would be wise to really get into the specifics, but it was not really a good situation. I volunteered to take on the admin spot, while in the back of my mind knowing it would be a temporary promotion. The first thing I did was finally clamp down on sexualized loli images, and pirated links on the forums. This once again led me to bump heads with Steve and Aaeru. It took me an entire day of arguing with Steve on his TS before he finally agreed to put any sexualized loli images in spoilers and label them NSFW. He also agreed to keep them only in his loli thread. It was exhausting arguing with Steve. Things were going somewhat smoothly, until Fuwapocolypse 1 happened. Aaeru kind of vanished around the same time, causing a massive headache for poor Tay. I found myself completely useless in the situation. I believe the problem was that Aaeru had pirated the forum software, and it finally caught up to use with a take down. Tay managed to raise some funds, and we purchased the legit copy that we use today. Nayleen was a huge help around that time, so I stepped down right about the same time he became an admin. I decided I no longer wanted to be staff for Fwuanovel. My constant fighting had helped nothing, and I just wanted to be done. At this time, the original Fuwanovel blog, VisualNovelAer was sort of dead I think. There was the random post now and again, but it was dead and social media outreach was smallish. Aaeru's disappearance left Tay high and dry, and then came the second Fuwapocolypse. At issue was the fact Tay had been threatened with legal action. With Aaeru completely vanished, IP holders went after Tay for being in charge of the site. This resulted in Tay having to lay low for a while and severely limit his itneractions with the site. Cybersteel took over hosting the server and Steve became admin. That was a disaster. Steve asked me to come back onto the staff to balance it out a bit I guess. I reluctantly agreed, only to find the same old issues at play. Steve was unwilling to listen to anyone but his little echo chamber, which infuriated me, leading me to go off again and again before finally asking to be relieved of my mod powers. It took 3 hours of arguing with Steve just to get off the mod team. -End Part I- I will work on this more, adding more detail as I find some older posts with some of this action, and remember things better. For example, Grisaia and Clannad getting western releases caused some issues, and so did the final Loli Battle (which resulted in Steve finally leaving Fuwanovel and Sanah becoming the new defender of Fuwa Lolis ) The rebirth of the blog, the birth of FuwaReviews, the death of torrents, and social media stuff will be covered in Part 2 when I do it. Also look forward to irc explosions, Original Ren's appearance, and other more member centric focused stuff. Maybe I'll even get into Aaeru nearly killing Fuwanovel for good. Was kind of swept under the rug for various, good reasons. I have made my fair share of mistakes with Fuwanovel. I've been too adversarial at times, disrespectful, and just mean. I fully admit a lot of my strong language is uncalled for. I also admit that I think of plenty of people on Fuwanovel as entitled, ignorant, fools with too many ideals and not enough practicality. I am also aware that many of you likely feel the same way about me. I'm fine with that. I can dish it out, and I can take it.

I don't remember specifics but I do remember that you and Steve debated on things a lot (Steve mainly with huge walls of text) TBH I blame ThatPlayer's bot for having rankings of how much you talked on IRC that got Kaguya, Zaka, etc to ... talk a lot. it was amusing Then again I sorta talked a lot of SC2 strategy to ThatPlayer and TheWingless (Forgot if Secchan was on IRC or not >.>) Something like that, yeah Nulled forum software. It's been like that because Aaeru was the main person who posted on it then. (I mean doesn't the last 3 characters seem familiar?) It's also around this time I probably got myself taken off the moderating team list myself (not because of legal action, but because of the possibility of it) I also remember sanahtlig arguing a bunch with Aaeru though. walls of text debates from the past... I think I was also trying to get Fuwanovel to focus a bit more on oelvn's than torrenting around the time we were deciding if torrents should be around or not. Also lol the IRC drama. And now back to semi lurking/being busy with other projects again... maybe

  33. Finished Amagi Brilliant Park (the 12 episodes of the main series, not episode 13 or the OVA). That was pretty damn good. It's a matter of personal taste that I would've preferred to see a nice romance between Kamie and Sento, which I'm guessing is the main reason why @ittaku mentioned he'd like to see a sequel, but despite wanting that romantic closure I felt like the show did a great job of completing everything it set out to. Overall I'm very happy with it; typical superb KyoAni quality. And if they did make a sequel (it seems like the light novels are ongoing, so they certainly could), I wouldn't hesitate to watch. The only time I've been dissatisfied watching a KyoAni anime was when they tried to write their own story in Tamako Market. I should really get around to watching the others I've missed like Sound! Euphonium. Also, I just read on Wikipedia that Kanie's name was inspired by Kanye West. It makes such perfect sense that I almost can't believe I didn't think of it before.

  34. Hello, I'm new to this forum so if this isn't the right place to post this let me know. So I'm working on a visual novel story: Set in modern England, Cain Blanchard is a smart-aleck 15 year old who, after enrolling in a school specializing in the arts of sorcery, finds himself caught in a game triggered every 500 years by the birth of the phoenix. Ignis Avis Venatio is a fight to the death competition between students and their familiars. The winner of the game obtains the phoenix’s powers. On top of choosing who to date and who to kill, Cain must make the crucial decision of whether the phoenix’s power will be used in benevolence or for destruction. characters: For anyone interested in this project you can check out our development progress here: http://project-iav.tumblr.com/ It's also in the middle of being funded: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/743136579/visual-novel-ignis-avis-venatio/description , so if you have the time we'd greatly appreciate it. I'd love to hear what anyone thinks of the project so far. Thank you!

Well, Steins;Gate was a great one. My first VN was Clannad..... that will remain as a special romance title for me but some people don't may find it a bit too cheezy. Little Busters was more about friendship but it was good too. If you want mystery, Umineko is the queen. It is extremely long as it is divided into 8 parts. You will probably find it to be boring for the 1st part, but there is a plot twist at the end of it that makes everything 100x interesting. I literally stayed up 3 nights to complete it after I finished the 1st part. It has the best music and sound effect out of any VNs or anime imo. After all, it is an audio novel. And although people chew it out for bad art, there is a patch with updated background and sprites for the PS3 that also works with PC: Try hard enough and you will find it. Another close contender in the mystery genre is Cartagra. If you don't like gore, don't play it. But that one was really good too for me. A good mix of drama and mystery would be G-Senjou no Maou. Decent good music too; they are arrangements of classical pieces. I am not a fan of sci-fi and mecha (save for Steins;Gate. That is how good it was) so can't tell you much on that... All in all, to rank them I would go with this: 1. Umineko 2. Clannad/Little Busters (same company, similar feel and style just different theme/message) 3. Steins;Gate 4. G-Senjou no Maou 5. Cartagra There are plenty of VNs that you can't go wrong with but extremely few that will be special and memorable. There are English translations for all of them.

    Came to Say Hello

Welcome! The Fuwa VN reading club (very informal) is actually reading Steins;Gate this month, so I'm reading it for the first time right now and am certainly enjoying it. If you do pick that one up, feel free to drop in to this thread to join in the discussion (discussion will probably start up in a few days after people have time to do some reading):

  39. ^ This is basically a much more thorough and guided version of what I had attempted to do a while back so you guys should check it out and use that instead. Also I guess I'll pin this thread if you don't mind, so it can replace the old one.

  41. For my 100th post, guess I should congratulate OP for his 1000th post, @Zalor. Since some of them speak about TLWiki, suddenly I feel nostalgic to how much VN Translation change so much compared to said around 2011 when TLWiki was still active. At that time, most good VN translation was hosted at TLWiki (Which as of now since Grisaia release at 2013 it was inactive and quite useless except to download some patch lol. And Sayooshi translation was not updated for several month), and we had several VN translation group like Yandere and Amaterasu. Also Mangagamer at that time was still had small catalog of translated VN compared to now, and of course Fuwanovel was still Visual Novel Aer. And fast forward to now, I think more VN was localized and we had one more official company (Sekai, although it also had some controversy) and many new translation group. Another change was Yandere site was abandoned in regard of their leader who was working and left his last project untranslated, and thanks to the effort of this community it was finally fully translated (In case you wondering, the VN in question was Majikoi (Also it spawn annoying meme back at VNTL with Unlimited Miyako Work thing). Oh another person called aroduc was still active since 2009. And as of now Mangagamer expand their translated VN catalog to more expansive than before. I think that's all for now that I could remember, and thanks for all of the post here @Zalor.

  43. presshearttocontinue for The reject demon: toko, fault milestone, hatoful boyfriend and many more. she has good(ish) taste and hilarious voice acting ericvanwilderman for saya no uta. the way he treats it, especially the h-scenes, is awesome the anime man for nekopara, not because it's a good vn but because it was fun to see him going completely insane with moe Also, don't think i need to explain this one: i discovered vns through let's plays, so i hope this thread gets some love

  45. I'd focus on the radicals and common ones first. Simply playing through the average charage VN will give you a good idea of what the most common kanji are, due to the large amount of conversations. Knowing the radicals, common kanji, and the 'basic' types makes it easier to figure out the more complex ones without needing to resort to a dictionary every time, because a lot of the more complex kanji are combinations of simpler ones and radicals.

  47. I picked this up mostly because @KosakiFag is such a big Alicesoft fan that I wanted to see what all the hoopla was about. One thing that tipped me over the edge for this release was the ability to skip all the rape scenes - which probably sounds like anathema to most of the people in this thread, but deal with it; I'm a wimp that way. Anyway, about the game. H-scenes are fine and all, but I'd probably pick up a more straightforward nukige if that's all I was looking for. Nonetheless, I find myself playing the game for pretty long stretches (actually longer than I would a more typical VN), and the reason is of course the gameplay elements. I find I really enjoy these simple optimization problems, and I especially appreciate that the dice are fixed. I have no desire to reload over and over again to get a better dice roll, but I will happily reload once to make a better decision on what to do with the dice/points/etc. I have. The mechanics are a little under-explained, but the only ones I didn't get yet were Libido and Brutality. Re-reading arunaru's post on the MG staff blog explained Libido quite clearly, so now I regret not pursuing raising that up higher, sooner . And I'm planning to leave Brutality at 0, so that's fine too. I'm only on day 10 or so at this point, but it's quite a lot of fun. I'm about to attempt the first castle raid and am curious to see what that's like.

  48. I don't know if that's the right word for when you're obstinate about claiming the superiority of one game over another while not having read either.
