Tokyo Babel Released!
Templarseeker and 4 others reacted to Darklord Rooke for a topic
Grand news, denizens of wherever. The much respected Tokyo Babel, a novel released by renowned developers, ‘Propeller’, localised by esteemed translators, Conjueror and Gare, and to be distributed by beloved MG, can now be trialled by you, the adoring[1] public, through a free demo. Gaze in astonishment, play the trial, and pre-order (it doesn’t have to be in that order.) http://blog.mangagamer.org/2016/03/18/tokyo-babel-demo-now-available-for-download/ [1]‘Adoring’ as in ‘you’d all better be adoring cause I know voodoo and will poke every single last one of you if you aren’t’ ahahahaha ... EDIT: Was this post pushy? I don’t think it’s pushy, but some folk are saying ‘it’s too much’. 'Too much' what? Words? Enthusiasm? I dunno. They weren’t exactly very clear, so it’s not my fault if I don’t understand what they’re saying. EDIT2: And now they're groaning in what I imagine is supposed to be frustration, but what in reality sounds like a Wookie in heat. That's even more incomprehensible, and doesn't exactly clarify matters. EDIT3: Ouch!5 points -

I figured there's no reason why the toolbar wouldn't get its previous buttons back after the forums last broke down, so I added the spoiler button back on because nobody remembers how to use BB codes anymore. Enjoy. No, I'm not re-arraging the toolbar and make it the way it was before, just in case this actually does somehow break everything and then it all goes to shit anyway.4 points -
Game Development World Championship 2016
Tyrael and 3 others reacted to Reiskaseiska for a topic
Hi! This is for people who like making video games and visual novels. Have you heard about Game Development World Championship? It’s a contest aimed at students, indie developers and new game start-ups who want global attention to their games. The contest has started already and will be running until the 30th of september. You can basically submit any kind of game you want (of course you should check the rules first). Even visual novels can be submitted to the competition (and it would be really cool if someone would submit a visual novel). The only major rule about submitting a game is that it has not been published elsewhere before 2016, meaning that if you have a game "in the works", it'd be able to be submitted. Or if you've always thought about making a game but just haven't gotten around to it, this could be a great chance to start! Competition categories are entertainment games and serious games, with 3 finalists from each category winning a trip to Finland, Sweden and Slush 2016 (which is the biggest start-up event in Europe). Everyone who applies to the contest will also get a free e-book bundle (this is not public info yet but I was allowed to talk about it). The books are mostly about 3D modeling and Unity development. The organizer is the Finnish company called Viope Solutions Oy. They have previously organized the contest in 2012 and 2013. So if you are interested, please take a look (and hopefully sign up!) at www.thegdwc.com, ask about it here or shoot an email at [email protected].4 points -

Patriotic Text Written by Poltroon
Funyarinpa and 2 others reacted to Mr Poltroon for a blog entry
As it happens, my younger sister had to write a text for a Portuguese test, and I like it. Therefore, I translated it (probably not too well) and decided to read it aloud. In both languages: There exist various characteristics that can be considered crucial for surpassing the most difficult difficulties and reaching the most faraway goals. For an argument as simple as "Attempt, be daring, be courageous and persevere", many will ignore it outright. After all, just because we try to do something, just because we are stubborn, we do not obtain instant results. Various situations are, clearly, impossible. To this, there's nothing I can do but point toward the history of this country. How many times has Portugal not achieved the impossible? A mere county, led by a teenager, becomes a country among countries triple, quadruple its size, fighting against Moors and Castilian Kings. One of Europe's smallest countries was given half the world by the Pope. A country in plain dictatorship, achieves a revolution without a single casualty. I understand that some may not believe that tenacity and audacity enable the impossible, but something I can guarantee: Without attempt, there will be no success. -M.F.V. (Poltroon)3 points -

You can download the teaser Demo here. https://theblacksands.itch.io/black-sands-legends-of-the-rift Please leave feedback. There may still be room for improvement Eventually we will have a major Demo coming which will launch before our Kickstarter. It will feature some of the gameplay mechanics and will be 45 minutes long roughly. Fully voiced of course. The Demo is crashing for lower spec comps so we will be optimizing it tonight. Be sure to leave your specs if it crashes on you.2 points -

I thought that's what littleshogun's post was but sometimes it's impossible to decipher his engrish. He also said he edited his post to remove "offensive" material, so... None of this has any relevance anyways. Here's the deal: Is ren making this up? Did he really lose the scripts? It doesn't matter. Nothing about the current situation changes at all. Do the mods play favorites? Yeah, a little, but there's nothing to even apply favoritism to here so I don't even know why this is being brought up. Actually, I don't know why you're so mad at literally everyone here. Why are the mods suddenly a target?2 points -

Kindred Spirits on the Roof Review and Discussion
Darklord Rooke and one other reacted to Down for a topic
I have to join Nosebleed on the fact that a lot of yuri is produced by females, and for females. In fact, yuri produced by men for men is, as far as I know, a fairly recent thing. While yuri 4koma like Sakura Trick and """yuri subtext""" series are def yuri by men for men, historically yuri is a women thing. Yuri started out in shoujo magazines and were written by women (and still exist there, think about stuff like Aoi Hana). In the 70s and 80s it was part of the exploration of forbidden romantic relationships (along with BL, incest etc) by mostly female mangaka, which was part of a larger movement of feminism and sexual emancipation in Japan. It is one of the most interesting periods in the history of manga, and a lot of renowned mangaka were part of that culture. Manga at that period in time was a place allowing for expression for those women mangaka. Yuri is not a very huge sub-category of the culture of that historical period but that's pretty much its origin still. Later in the 90s, it was a josei magazine, Misuto, that started publishing pornographic yuri (contrary to BL, yuri in the 70s/80s wasn't very explicit). And one of the (many) reasons why Utena is one of the best anime that has ever been made is that it directly draws influences from all that 70s/80s shoujo manga culture and interrogates it, its social role, etc. The reason why yuri manga emerged that way is that if you go back further in history, you find its foundation in S-kei literature. And that answers @Fred the Barber's interrogations about MariMite: MariMite is a pure homage to S-kei literature and depicts what kind of novels those were. Much the same way, S-kei literature was done by women for women, and had ties with feminist and sexual emancipation movements: the most famous S-kei author, Nobuko Yoshiya, was a lesbian and a feminist. I don't know where yurirei belongs in all of this, because 'modern' (post-2000 I guess) manga tends to blur influences and historical considerations while dividing audiences into niches of niches of niches that make things much more complicated to understand - in a typical post-modern fashion, if I am to believe what little I know of post-modernism.2 points -

Thank You GundamAce - Root Double Info and Discussion
Vorathiel reacted to littleshogun for a topic
Well, first of all congratulations on successful Kickstarter for Root Double, even though it's kinda shaky at the middle. My comment is that for Sekai if next time you want to release the VN that has less exposure than this one, I would suggest that you better did the Thunderclap and better tier earlier (Although I understand that maybe this time Regista was kinda hesitate to allow Sekai at first, while back at Libra the decision to make the Kickstarter was started from the staff of Libra themselves iirc), since I'd read that many of the user feel here your move was kinda late. Anyway since this project was already funded, let's move on to discuss this game, and if you still want to discuss the Kickstarter, please go to this thread. For the release date, hopefully around March (Although if the release was got pushed, I'll make sure the thread will be not drowned). Anyway, from the title, it was obvious the credit should go to GundamAce or back in Gamefaqs forum ShadowBlackMage since he was as the leader of Lemnisca Translation did the translation. Once again, if some of Lemnisca member came here (Or especially GundamAce), thanks for translating this game and 2 previous games (I/O and Never7). For the premise, as we knew Root Double was dealing with 9 people (3 people from rescue squad and 6 civilian people) trapped in nuclear facility which about to explode within 9 hours. To make it worse, actually there was a drug that could prevent radiation, but unfortunately in best case scenario it was only enough for 6 people, leaving 3 people dead. By reading that, you knew that the chance of all people to survive were very slim. So of course they need to trying to search where they could escape within 9 hours. Oh, apparently this game maybe Takumi Nakazawa answer to 999 which was made by his fellow back at Infinity project, Kotarou Uchikoshi. I mean what's with 9 people and 9 hours (Oh and one more info, the drug I mentioned was only capable to prevent radiation for 1 hour. The drug supply was only 54 drugs, in other word only enough for 6 people like mentioned before). For trivia info, the drug name was Alone Desire. As the story goes, there was also some mysteries which accompany them to their escape. There were 6 mysteries, and the mysteries were: The captain rescue squad loss his memories Some of trapped civilian were high school students (Normally in VN it's not a mystery, since they like to involve high school XDDD. The question is more like why the high school students could come into nuclear facility) There was dead body inside facility The reason that the incident happened, and why they couldn't get out easily And last mystery was about the people who should not exist but exist at the nuclear facility There you go with the mystery. For more info, once again you could look to Kickstarter page, or Animesuki forum here. And once again thanks to GundamAce for the info translation back at Animesuki forum. As for the review, here's from Awesome Curry Chronicle (WARNING - Some MAJOR SPOILER there) and below's from GundamAce. For special service I'll post his review, from A route to his final review (The game was divided to 4 route - A, B, C, and D). He wrote the review in Animesuki and Gamefaqs back at 2012 (I was interested to Root Double since 2012 by the way). So, here's the review from GundamAce Route A Review (I'll use spoiler for shorter page, although guess it's already very long) Route B Review Route C Review Route D Review (Keep in mind this review was for normal version, because I'd heard that XTend version had Route D changed. Correct me if I'm wrong) Gundam Ace Final Review There you have it, although if some of you find it better than Ever17 or not later is depend on you I suppose. Oh finally, since GundamAce mentioned cast, guess for next I should do some commentary for the cast and character, like back in KoiChoco and Noble Works. One interesting thing about 9 characters was the system called Enneagram. It take too much time for explaining it, so I'll give Wikipedia link here. And for 999 games, actually there was also some info that Uchikoshi confirm that he design the character based on Enneagram. There was discussion about that at Gamefaqs, and here's the discussion (Watch out for spoiler though in case you didn't finish 999). For the cast, I'll give them based on Enneagram from 1 to 9, some info, and the seiyuu. But before tha, I'll give some info about 2 additional characters first. Since in GundamAce review that he mentioned Ai Shimizu character, guess I'll better mentioned Ai Shimzu first. In case you wonder who will Ai Shimizu voiced, here's the character. As for the character, I couldn't explain it since the info was nothing, and if you ask my opinion, she was not important at all. As for Ai Shimizu herself, her role was (By the way her pseudonym mostly had some connection with automotive brand) Sanjou Makoto in Noble Works, Komine Sachi in Grisaia franchise, Napoleon in Eiyuu Senki, Elina in Dracu Riot, and Tamaki Sakura in Hatsuyuki Sakura. As for Miyoko Tenkawa, she was Natsuhiko's mother, and she works at LABO and according to VNDB she rarely come home. So she like Hinata's father back in I/O, while we could said that Natsuhiko situation resemble Hinata's. For the seiyuu, she was voiced by Sayaka Ohara, and her role was Kela Hazel in Galaxy Angel trilogy, Dahlia in Duel Savior PS2 Version, Urotorii in Utawarerumono, and most famously in VN she was Beatrice back in Umineko. As promised earlier, here's the other characters info, starting from 1st Enneagram. Oh by the way all trapped people based on Enneagram. Ukita Keiji (1st Enneagram, The Reformer) - By the way, his enneagram and Loise enneagram was mistakenly written in kickstarter page as the Helper. According to the description, he was Natsuhiko neighborhood and work at LABO as one of the researcher. His voice was provided by Toru Okawa, and his role was Tomitake in Higurashi franchise, Arawn in Tears to Tiara, and Gasai Itsuki back in Comyu. Mashiro Toba (2nd Enneagram, The Helper) - According to description, she was one of our MC (Natsuhiko. Oh this VN had 2 MC by the way) childhood friend. Her biggest pride was cooking and take care of Natsuhiko. Back in TV Trope, GundamAce describe her position was like Sakuya back in I/O. Her voice was Asami Imai, and her role in VN was Makise Kurisu back in Steins Gate, Okitsu Ai in Yumina the Ethereal, Morishita Michiru in Koi Choco, and Yoshitsune in Eiyuu Senki. Ena Tsubakiyama (3rd Enneagram, The Achiever) - The teacher at Natsuhiko and Mashiro school. For hard word, she was kinda want to achieve something as the enneagram said, sometimes to obsessive to the goal I think. For easier word, especially to Remember11 veteran who read this, just thinking of Mayuzumi Lin when she trapped at LABO. As the seiyuu, the name was Toyoguchi Megumi and her role was like I said before Mayuzumi Lin in Remmeber11 and Junko Enoshima back at Dangan Ronpa. Louise Yui Sannomiya (4th Enneagram, The Individualist) - Half Japan and half French, and transfer student in Natsuhiko school. Nicknamed Salyu and she had ferret called Alice. For some reason, she was willing to live with Natsuhiko. For the seiyuu, Shindou Kei, no notable role in VN or anime, although some of user here may elaborate it. Oh GundamAce made a comment that Salyu design remind him of Feili from Chrome Shelled Regios. Watase Kasasagi (5th Enneagram, The Investigator) - One of our MC and the captain of rescue squad. At the beginning, he was lost his memory for unknown reason. But before memory loss, he was calm man and with dry sense of humor. His voice was Shingaki Tarusuke and his role in translated VN was none, although Fate/Zero fan may recognize him as Matou Kariya. Kazami Tachibana (6th Enneagram, The Loyalist) - Chilhood friend from Watase and vice captain of rescue squad. She was take the lead while Watase suffering memory loss. Her seiyuu was Rina Satou, and her role in VN was Souya Misaki in old VN Snow Sakura, Kusakabe Yuki in To Heart 2, Yoshitsune in Majikoi S, Nami from Aoi Shiro, and Ushiromiya Ange in Umineko franchise. Natsuhiko Tenkawa (7th Enneagram, The Enthusiast) - Another MC, and he was only high school students. He like to be alone, just like Hinata back in I/O. For a little commentary, at the beginning he was liveng in harem situations lol, with Mashiro came to his house every morning, Salyu living in his house, and another his childhood friend Yuuri also live in same house as his. For the seiyuu, the name was Ichiki Mitsuhiro and his role in anime (I didn't comment his performance in VN because he didn't had any role in translated VN yet) was very lame MC from old anime Magikano (By the way, I watched it back at 2007) Haruo Yoshikawa. Of course Natsuhiko was more handsome than Haruo lol (Even though both of them wear glasses). Jun Moribe (8th Enneagram, The Challenger) - Kazami junior in rescue squad, and her goal was that she want to become the heroes who protect the weak. That's why she choose to become rescue squad as first step. Her seiyuu was Tomonaga Akane, who in VN she was play as Inubushi Keiko and Suzukage Hotori back in Remember11, Seira in Chaos Head, Nagamine Nozomi in Seinarukana, Kawakami Kazuko aka Wanko in Majikoi, Soejima Hisoka in Comyu, Kazami Kazuki in Grisaia franchise, and Oda Nobunaga in Eiyuu Senki. Yuri Kotono (9th Enneagram, The Peacemaker) - Another Natsuhiko childhood friend, and live with him. According to the info back at Animesuki, she didn't like to go outside house, but for some reason she was trapped in LABO, while according to Natsuhiko she should be at home. I quite take a liking to her design back at 2012. Her seiyuu was Kaori Nazuka, and her role in VN was Flower MC Shirahane Suou. Oh if some of you like to watch Fate Ilya, she was play Miyu Edelfelt. I think that's all of the info from Root Double I could give it here. Although there's still more about world building info, but you could read it at Kickstarter or GundamAce info. Use this thread for future discussion of Root Double in near future. And sorry if I couldn't provide more info. Hope you like my post here. PS Almost forget, here's the OP Video for Root Double thanks to Sekai Project Edit - I'd just remember that one of VNDB user made a review for Root Double. So like GundamAce review, I'll copy the review here. Oh the user name was crauxan Crauxan Root Double Review - The review was made back at 20131 point -

Tokyo Babel Released!
Darklord Rooke reacted to littleshogun for a topic
@Rooke No problem, although my role here was change slightly though, not opening the thread but only posting information lol. Okay, as promised here, I'll try to give as much info about Tokyo Babel as possible and, I think I'll give seiyuu info in slightly different format (And most of the seiyuu had more role in anime), by also give MAL link to seiyuu. Anyway, the premise was surely interesting with ruined world, heaven and hell setting thing. Also super powered thing. I'm pretty sure that I didn't catch much of it from the VNDB synopsis anyway. So, in here we'll have our MC Setsuna voiced by Hiroshi Kamiya (Matou Shinji from Fate/Stay Night), the first heroine Raziel (White haired girl) voiced by HanaKana (Shina Mayuri in Steins Gate, Kagari in Rewrite), 2nd heroine Sorami (Red haired girl) voiced by Kanae Ito (Didn't had any role in translated VN), and the last heroine Lilith (Black haired girl) voiced by Miyuki Sawashiro (Mint from Galaxy Angel trilogy, Dlanor from Umineko, Aruru from Utawarerumono). And for heroine I mean those character who got routes (For your info, I'd very heavily suggested that all of the user here cleared the route according to the order heroine I'd give. So the ideal order would be Raziel, then Sorami and finally Lilth). I think that's all for the route information. For the side cast, surely it was had all-star seiyuu. It will probably too much information, but we got Eri Kitamura (Chiester 410 from Umineko, Senri Akane from Rewrite, Sakihata Rimi from Chaos Head), Ai Kayano, Sakurai Takahiro, Abe Atsuhi, Ookubo Rumi, and Saiga Mitsuki (Tanbo Ryouko from Saya no Uta, Zepar from Umineko) for anime fan. And for VN fan here (I'll include VNDB link here too) we got name like Isshiki Hikaru/Tanaka Ryouko (Kurugaya Yuiko from Little Busters, Neon from Gahktun, Sakaki Yumiko from Grisaia franchise, Hinaori Kagome from Comyu, Ichinotani Touko from Ayakashibito), Hokuto Minami/Hitomi (Sakura from Da Capo franchise, Primula from Shuffle, Sakakibara Koyuki from Majikoi, Tokita Yuki from G-Senjou, Tamase Miki from Muv Luv franchise), and Asami Imai (Just MAL this time, since her alias in VN was quite diverse. Anyway her VN role was Morishita Michiru in Koichoco, Okitsu Ai in Yumina the Ethereal, Makise Kurisu in Steins Gate, Yoshitsune in Eiyuu Senki, Toba Mashiro in Root Double, Nafqa in Madou Koukaku). I was definitely missing some of the seiyuu here, but I think with those above data prove us that Tokyo Babel will be definitely all-star seiyuu cast here. The opening by the way was rock song, and quite good and different from usual VN opening. Oh, for the writer (Higashide Yuuichirou) here, he was also write Princess Waltz and Ayakashibito, so I think if some of user here find Princess Waltz or Ayakashibito good, you could also expect good writing from the writer. As for review, I think I'll present the link to each of review here. And for the opening, I'll post @Clephas review from VNDB first (Sorry to borrow your review by the way) below. For the linked review, I'll posted below. And here's the was the warning. BELOW OF MAJOR SPOILER. IF YOU FEEL SPOILED BLAME YOURSELF. Because each review was contained spoiler to some degree. Warum - Double Babel (The spoiler was less than the first one, but it was still spoiler, so beware. Also spoiled this untranslated VN there. Oh, Tokyo Babel was on left side in case you didn't care about spoiler and go there) Asheld - TAG ARCHIEVES: TOKYO BABEL (Beware of major spoiler for each route there, since he also did review for each route) I think that's all for Tokyo Babel review I could find outside. As for the demo, I'd still not playing it. But for those who didn't play the demo or only want to hear the voice, how about the video from Youtube propeller channel here ? Since I didn't know Japan, I think it's only contain first few hour or so (Maybe all demo content) of the game and some skit. But if some of you here know the Japan you'll understand the video (Duh). The last thing, I'd was surprised that demo size was 2.1 GB (I though it was only around 200 MB), although I'd hope full game size was only overestimation from Mangagamer, since they said the game size will be around 15 GB. I think that's all for the info about Tokyo Babel for now. And I'll try to write demo impression here later. PS - To all mod here or @Rooke himself, may I request to change the thread title to 'Tokyo Babel Discussion' or something like that after March 31st (The reason should be obvious). PPS - In case you want to know my expectation, I was looking forward to this game.1 point -

Black Sands releases Teaser Demo and character Presentation!
Black Sands Entertainment reacted to Deep Blue for a topic
Really good teaser, I'm going to be honest, the first time I backed your project I wasn't really sure about it or if it was worth it I just wanted to support your game but I wasnt really interested in it.. now I really want to play it and back you for that xD The voice acting was really good but there were some slight desync between when the text was being displayed and when the characters started to talk, as soon as the text is displayed the character should talk or else it looks a bit awkward even if it is a second or less. The scribble sound is annoying after a while, put an option to turn it off. A way to turn down the speed or the auto text (I tried changing the settings but nothing worked is not clear if I'm turning down the volume or something else xD ) A way to move the text forward by pressing the enter key and not just the space bar or the right click button. Keep up the good work!1 point -

Okabe is complicated. Here's my perception of his character, as of where I am somewhere in Chapter 4, supplemented with as much evidence as I can get. Some of this comes from the very rare honest introspection on his part, but more of it comes by assessing his relationships with other people: - He doesn't believe all the nonsense he spouts. The best evidence for this is how he acts when he's with Faris, since she's better at this nonsense game than he is, and he freely admits it (to himself). The way he acts during his banter with her, where she's directing the conversation, is basically identical to his ordinary Organization shtick, except that he occasionally admits that he can't keep up the game as well as she does. - Although he doesn't actually believe in any Organization, Okabe seems to be deeply entertained by pretending to believe in it. The reason he goes around telling everybody about it is on the off-chance they'll play along with him and he can have some fun. To some extent you can see this when he chats with Faris, but much more so when he chats with Luka, since Luka is so deeply invested in Okabe that he'll play along with anything Okabe does. - This is the most interesting point, to me: Okabe is as unsure and worried as all the people around him about the severity of the situation he suddenly finds himself in. He reveals this pretty directly through a big internal monologue, at one point, after some of the events in chapter 2 or 3 (can't remember which). I don't think they're trying to make him funny in particular, so much as they're trying to show that he's just a goofball playing around all day who suddenly ends up way, way over his head.1 point -

No worries man, you should have no problems getting along with other people here either. The community here in general are quite friendly and harmless, most of the time.1 point

Especially in the anime... I'd also add Elis from Canvas 2, Nemu from Da Capo and Michika from Imopara and Kagome from Comyu. Rise and Chiho from Princess Evangile could also fit the bill - they are at least fighting over the protagonist. And considering that Ai from Tick Tack goes full netori at a certain point I'd also include her. In general, imouto and onee-chan characters tend to be very attached to the protagonist, although I wouldn't call all of them necessarily possessive because of that.1 point -
